Zyka Elevated Indian Restaurant is a must-visit gem hidden on the second floor in the heart of downtown Banff. The easiest way to find it is to look for the Zyka sign around Banff Ave--otherwise, you might end up on a bit of a maze-like journey through the mall. You can easily access it via the stairs or elevator. Inside, the decor is clean, modern, and warm. There are lots of tables in the restaurant, so this is a great choice if you have a large group (although you should make reservations to guarantee seating). If you are lucky enough to score a window table, you get front-row seats to incredible mountain views and great people-watching. Zyka offers a buffet at lunch alongside a large à la carte menu for lunch or dinner. The food was absolutely spectacular. Their butter chicken is easily one of the best I have ever had! The chicken is deeply marinated and served in a rich, thick sauce with a perfectly balanced blend of onion, tomato, yogurt, and masala. If you love a thick curry that clings perfectly to your rice and bread, this is it! The matar paneer was equally hearty and flavorful, boasting another beautifully thick sauce with just the right amount of a spicy kick. But the real showstopper? The garlic naan. Finding excellent naan is rare--it's usually too bland or too dry. Zyka's naan is fresh, delicious, and has the perfect chewy stretch. Our family of five loved the garlic naan so much that we actually purchased eight more orders to go! Pro-Tip for dairy-free/lactose-intolerant diners: You can ask the incredibly friendly staff to leave the butter off the garlic naan. Remarkably, even without the butter, Zyka's garlic naan was still soft, flavorful, and not dry at all. Highly recommended! ZYKA was delicious! I was a little nervous trying Indian food in Banff especially when I saw I had to take stairs to get to the restaurant. You're literally transported into a booming restaurant with savory scents and smoking dishes! I was worried because the waiter didn't write anything down but everything came out exactly as we ordered. It was so exciting to see the dosas flying out of the kitchen. I've never tried a dosa before and I'm really glad I waited until coming here. We got a potato dosa which is a crepe shaped bread full of potato and dipping sauces. I would go back for this alone. Please do not waste time commuting or waiting to eat at this restaurant. I did wonder for a minute, is the quality of food worth the chaos, disorganized staff and minimal customer etiquette? I guess not. After having great customer services at every possible cuisine in the town as well at Fairmont Banff, I felt embarrassed that I wasted time trying to give them a second chance. I rarely have Indian food, but this was really good! We had the option whether to do buffet, but we ended up doing a la carte since most of the other items were wanted were on the menu! We ordered quite a few things, the Zyka Chicken Tikka, Onion Bhajia, a a lot of garlic naans, and others I don'y quite remember! Although, a lot of the curries were actually very good. The appetizer was also very nice as well. Garlic naans were definitely very garlic-y. Although, the eggplant was definitely too roasty for our taste. We liked that one the least. Overall, the food and ambiance here was pretty good! Definitely feels like an "elevated" dining experience with the music and atmosphere here. Zyka is the premier Desi spot in Banff with all halal meat and a reservation required since wait times can be over an hour. I had a wonderful time at zyka this evening! The food was delicious, the service was attentive, and the place was very well kept. I would highly recommend everything we ordered. We got lamb korma, palak paneer, mysore masala (spicy potato) dosa, and garlic naan. We got it all medium spicy and it was perfectly tingly. For drinks we got mango lassi and lime soda. Consider this a 3.5 star review. Chicken tikka was surprisingly good for an Indian restaurant catering to a tourist crowd. Rest everything was fairly toned down on flavors and spices as expected. We had such an amazing experience here! The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. The ambiance was warm and comfortable as well. Being from South India, I was so impressed with how authentic and flavorful everything was--it honestly felt like a taste of home. We ordered the chilli garlic shrimp, butter chicken, Kerala beef stew, lamb dum biriyani, parotta, and naan, and every single dish was delicious. The biriyani in particular blew me away--it's probably one of the best I've ever had. We visited Banff for the first time all the way from LA and were craving lamb biryani. We found Zyka on Yelp and decided to try it, and it did not disappoint! The food was amazing, especially the lamb biryani. We even asked if they could lessen the spice, then realized the yogurt served with it helps balance the heat perfectly. The ambiance was also really nice, cozy, and welcoming. The place was packed when we walked in, but the servers were able to move some tables to fit our group, and I am incredibly glad that they did. This may have been the best Indian (fusion) food that I have ever had. The classic dishes were incredible (butter chicken, tikka masala, etc.) but the menus also explores many dishes that I had not tried before. Everything we tasted was delicious, not a single bad dish hit our table. One of our favorite meals in Banff. This place was busy and majority of the clientele was South Asian so we took it as a telltale sign that this place is good. We called ahead to ask if they serve halal meat and they do! We were worried about not being able to eat here as we arrived less than half an hour before closing but when we came in they were plenty busy and had no issue seating us. They seated us out on the balcony which was equipped with space heaters and a beautiful view of Mount Rundle. We ordered the tandoori chicken, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, tandoori roti, butter naan, jeera rice, and rasmalai for dessert. It was a lovely meal. Tandoori chicken came on a sizzling platter and all the dishes were seasoned beautifully. My Pakistani husband had no complaints. Every dish we got (chicken tikka masala, lamb korma, chicken 65, rice, butter and garlic naan, and fish moilee) were all outstandingly delicious AND high quality. I will say the spice levels were a little different at least to us, as our chicken tikka was spicier than expected and our chicken 65 was not as spicy as others we have tried, but we're not complaining about that! We went here on our 2nd day with high expectations. Only saw very good reviews. We walked into a very understaffed restaurants. Our expectations were too high. They had the buffet style going on and you can also order from the menu. We opted for the buffet because it took so long to get the server to come back. The butter chicken was very tender and the sauce was good. All the other items were okay as well. The price was about 30 dollars or higher per person for the buffet so if you eat a lot this wasn't a bad deal. The ambiance of the place would've felt nicer if outdoor seating was available but it had snowed the night before so it was closed. Other tables being seated after us had to wait a long time to get seated, waited tables to be cleaned before seating even when there was a lot of seating available, waters were not delivered, orders not being taken. For a place so highly rated i know if should get busy but it seems they did not know how to manage at all. It was a bit disappointing for our first time eating at banff at a restaurant. read more

Really good Indian food in Banff downtown. The view from the patio is great. It was so quiet and serene when we stopped by overlooking the mountains! They have a lot of options to chose from. We got the garlic naan, tikka masala, chilli chicken and fried rice. All of the food tasted great. The naan was delicious! And our lassi's were perfect. The service was good and fast. They have a large seating area. Prices are a bit higher but thats every other restautant in tourist town in Banff. Paid parking close to the restaurant.
