Prison break is a fun beginner room. As an escape room enthusiast from SoCal, would say it has the right variety of puzzles to introduce a new group to playing escape rooms. Some of the decor is worn out and there are a few small disconnects in the puzzle logic without asking for a hint. Otherwise, we blew through the room and still had fun doing it. Haven't tried Toy Box but do think it'll likely be a bit more detailed and immersive as it's their pride and joy. read more

We played the toybox one and had so much fun! It was a really great group activity with family and I imagine it would also make a great work team build. This one had no scary elements and would be perfect for those who want to bring younger ones. I also really liked that you didn't have to carry around a walkie talkie while playing the game. It's been the case for most places but here, any questions or clues are communicated through a screen in the room that also has a timer displayed. But of course this is just a personal preference cause I'm clumsy and totally broke a walkie from a different escape place lol And last but not least, the check in lady/game host was amazing and really made the experience that much more fun! We didn't understand that the animals on the wall of the toy box room were supposed to be a animal cracker box and that the cardboard was to look like the inside of the box. Since my husband buys whatever he needs, it makes it hard to surprise him on birthdays/holidays. For that reason, I long ago resorted to planning experiences in lieu of gifts. Covid threw a wrench in trying to plan a memorable event for my husband's birthday, especially since we're in Dem run California. However, on a hunch I called Zscape. It was just the 7 of us (family) and figured we'd be allowed to be locked in a escape room together. Covid continued to thwart my efforts but I persisted. Their website was malfunctioning, their business line and online chat was malfunctioning as well. I tried every avenue to contact them with just days before the event. Finally, I tried email. Voila! The email got through and Zach called me immediately, unaware of all the other avenues were not working. No matter, we worked it out. Got the date and time we needed. Yay! We opted for the Toy Box. We were warned it was their most difficult. We were up for the challenge. The game was very challenging and the puzzles cleverly designed. Not gonna lie, we struggled. We had a 10, 11, and 14 year old as part of our group too. Surprisingly, the kids did REALLY well. There was a particular challenge they excelled at that I could never have done! Thank goodness we brought them!! Ha ha. We divided and almost conquered. Some of the puzzles were very complex and we had to go back over them a couple of times to solve. We got very close, but sadly never mastered the final puzzle to escape. The people we were with refused to ask for a clue until there were only two minutes left. That last puzzle would have taken at least 10 minutes to complete. It was a doozy! Good luck to our successors, you're gonna need it. I see some complaints about the 'esthetics' of the place. You're not there for the lobby. You're there for the EXPERIENCE. In that, Zscape does not disappoint. Focus! Tip: Use the restroom before you get there. The communal facilities of the retail commercial building are disgusting, over which Zscape has no control. All in all, everyone had a great time. My boyfriend and I had a blast at ZScape's "Prison Break" Escape Room, even though we didn't quite make it out in time! We were so close, though, and the experience was still engaging and enjoyable from start to finish. Zac did a great job of creating a fun and immersive atmosphere and was always there to guide us and give us hints when we needed them. The puzzles were challenging but not too difficult, and we were excited to discover a clue in the introduction video that almost helped us solve one of them. We played the VR experience. Our host was excellent. Very friendly, professional, and worked very hard to help us with our experience. The main issue we had is that we already have the HTC Vive at home and the graphics and gameplay in the VR at Zscape were not nearly as good as other VR games we have played on our home system. However, if you have never tried VR before, this is a nice introduction. A few months ago, we played their Prison Break regular escape room, and that was fantastic! My recommendation is that you stick with the regular escape rooms at Zscape, and skip the VR unless you haven't tried VR before and want to see what it is like. read more

Friend & I are on an escape room bender at the moment. We came here to do the Prison Break, and then returned to do the Toy Box a couple days later. The puzzles are definitely the highlight; decently challenging without feeling like there were too many huge leaps in logic within the solving sequence. The rooms' props & set designs are super charming - you can tell there was a lot of thought and effort put into them. There is a little bit of (but not much) story behind the rooms, but people usually don't do things for the plot these days. Overall, I'm very impressed and am looking forward to seeing what you guys put out in the future. (Even more impressed upon learning that the creator of these rooms is 23!! We have done a few escape rooms as a group of friends, and these at ZScape escape rooms were at the top. We did the toybox and prison escape back to back, and both Games were intuitive and high quality. We were able to complete both rooms(toy box we placed 18 overall and first in a group of 5) but Zach(presumed owner/manager) was super nice and had great customer service, actually all workers were nice and courteous. Overall was a great escape room that was challenging but fun. Looking forward to the third escape room and the VR escape room. read more

I was extremely disappointed in our experience. We did the Toy Box Room which started out pretty entertaining but things quickly went down hill. 1. The timer for our room kept going in and out because they have been havinf issues with their computer. 2. First 10 mins were great, found clues, solved good puzzles but when we needed our first clue, if took the game master about 8 minutes to respond. 3. Many of the clues we got were to puzzles we solved already. I would say, between waiting for the game master to respond and giving us proper clues, 15 minutes of game time.was.wasted. 4. Decor was falling apart = different pieces came off and we thought some were clues, when in fact, its just wear and tear. My kid cut his finger in one of the toy boxes cuz it was a wooden splinter. 5. Puzzles werent working....due to the fact the escape room itself was very run down. Overall, this wasnt a good escape room and we been to several already. I do not recommend this room read more

It was fun, the puzzle was great, everything was great except it was soooooo HOT in there! I wish they had some fans or the AC on because it made it frustrating and I eventually didn't want to finish because I was sweating. This was my first time ever doing an escape room and zscape beyond exceeded my expectations! There were only two of us and we were two puzzles away from completing it. The attention to detail in the puzzles and rooms were amazing. I like that they were able to give you fun and helpful clues if you got stuck. Both employees working were very nice and extremely helpful in this being our first escape room experience. It was my birthday and they incorporated a special surprise during our time escaping which was wonderful and unexpected. I had so much fun doing this and would highly recommend it to anyone! To begin with: You can book your room as late as 1 hour before the room start time online. We just missed the deadline and made a phone call and they found a way for us to play the room anyways. Pretty nice of them. Now the prison break room and customer service is what we had an issue with. I've done about 25-30 rooms and this is probably bottom 6-7. I didn't see that many innovative/satisfying puzzles and the kicker: locks literally just didn't work and the game master had to come in and just give us the answer code. Total buzzkill and we lost substantial time off the 60 minutes. The screen in the room displaying clues and time was cut off on the right side, so we couldn't even see the full clue. I've experienced mishaps before at other escape rooms and they have ALWAYS asked us to come visit them again and give them another chance. Instead, the manager said they could offer us a discount but the percentage was extremely marginal. All in all, subpar escape room quality in puzzles, just slightly subpar theme/technology, and subpar customer service. Stick to the reputable escape companies on Yelp with more reviews, like Omescape. read more

Zscape is a top-notch escape room event. My family of 3 teen daughters and spouse have been to probably 10+ different escape room companies, mostly in the Bay area, and Zscape is near the top. Combine very creative games with super staff (Grace rocks!) and you are bound to have a fun, memorable and challenging experience. Toy Box, the game we played, was the perfect combination of intellectual challenge with a fun theme. We've been to games with slightly better 'finish' on their rooms...but Zscape more than made up made up for the room being a bit worn with all the other factors that made for a great evening wit the family.
