What really stood out was his tact. A few kids became overstimulated, and he handled it with such calm reassurance and professionalism. He struck that perfect balance of being fun while maintaining structure, which is not easy with that age group. It's rare to see someone manage that level of energy so skillfully. Walked in on Mother's Day and the staff who first greeted us 10 mins later was nice and helped us decide on which game to choose by playing trailers for us to watch. This was a nice gesture. We booked our time and we returned 6 mins late. Then this was when we were told we are too late so we can get a store credit or rebook. The excuse was other people in our group has already started. We didn't doubt this at the time but they have a website to look up scores of the day and we were the only ones playing this game at the San Ramon location. Not sure why we couldn't play then if we were the only ones playing anyways. We rebooked for later the same day after dinner and arrived 30 mins early. It turns out we need to sign waivers and prep time before playing. This should have been basic information given to us or at least let us know we should arrive earlier than your booked time in order to play. Just thinking logically I would want clients to prefill these out prior to their reservations. This would create less friction at start time. The crew setting us up for playtime were very helpful though and after playing they gave us a nice recap experience of our game. This was a nice touch but I wish they would have told us how the photos would be used more clearly. I wasn't even ready when taking my photo and halfway through a blink. The kids liked the game play but adults didn't have a good time. It was dizzying and exhausting to play for me and my wife and $50 a person for such an experience seems high. Came for a child's birthday party and I have mixed feelings. Spent a lot of time waiting around while play time was relatively short. We gathered, filled out waivers, then directed to a base (ie Base 1, Base 2, etc). From there we sat around for a while, then given some directions, and then helped our children put on some sensors on their wrists and ankles. Each player was then given a vest and had to wait in the room for employees to put on additional gear. After their two games were completed, the hosts /attendees were not given anywhere to sit and enjoy their cupcakes. They were waiting to seat another group in our area and since they don't have a big lobby area or party rooms, we opted to sit outside at the tables and chairs in the middle of the shopping center. It was quite cold and windy, but we made the best of it. While this may work for older teens and adults, hosting a party here for young kids might not go so well. read more

Josh, Logan & Sara were great managing the games we signed up for. We had 3 games, about 10 groups of most 5 and everyone at our offsite RAVED about the event. As a proud '80s gamer, at 4 years old I was raised on Duck Hunt and Super Mario, I still love anything that brings that nostalgia to life.. so Sandbox VR was everything! I took my sister and nephew for sister's early birthday fun, and we had an absolute blast. My nephew snagged MVP, and I got the most kills.. so clearly, he gets it from me Whether you've got teens, little gamers, or just want something different to do with your adult crew, I highly recommend it. We recently took our daughter and her friends to this place for her 13th birthday. Unfortunately, a few days before, she fractured her ankle. I called and spoke to a great guy that said they could accommodate a cast, but 1 of the games she had chosen (Squid Games) wouldn't be great as there is lots of moving. Great catch. Anyway, the set up seemed easy, and the girls seemed to get the hand of it without too much fuss. Then, the games began. I'm not sure who has a better time ..... The girls or me watching them interact and move and scream and yell. I think their favorite was the Amber Sky. The other game they played was The Curse of Davey Jones. We came here to do a team building exercise and to release some built up stress. Sandbox and specifically Braden exceeded all our expectations. We had such a good time. There was a technical glitch with our room, and Braden was so apologetic yet quick and efficient in resolving the issue. Their customer service there is beyond top notch. From the second we arrived, I made an error with our booking, and they took care of us with no issues. I've been here twice now, and both times I walked away smiling and getting a good laugh at the video they provide to you at the end. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back. read more

Second time coming here. First time- 10/10! So much fun even though we were late, they still helped us and we finished the game within the time limit. Second time- 5/10. I wish I had better feedback this time around but it was more so the technical difficulties. I was in a party with 5 other people- 3 my friends and 2 strangers who joined us. We all became close after talking and once the game started, my gun stopped working. It took a while for the team to realize and so that cut about 10 minutes of our experience down. Next my friends VR headset stopped working as she couldn't see anything and the team came by quicker this time to help out with that. Another 10 minutes gone. Now I know it's not the workers fault- but still it was disappointing to not even finish the game (we had one final boss to defeat) and it's not cheap either.. ($200 for 4 people) I felt so bad for the other two who joined us as it was their first time and their experience got cut short because of our technical difficulties. We decided to try this location for a change after going many times to Sandbox VR Emeryville and honestly, big mistake. Right from the start, the woman at the front welcoming customers was extremely rude and rushed us straight to the kiosk to sign waivers. We were only about 7 minutes late and she immediately warned us our time would be cut short. Considering how expensive this experience is, that's not exactly the way you want to greet paying customers. Once we got to our play area, a guy helped us with the gear and he was friendly and patient, the only positive part of the visit. Unfortunately, the woman assisting him had the same energy as the front desk very rushed and clearly just wanted us out as quickly as possible. The whole vibe felt tense and unwelcoming instead of fun and exciting. The session itself also felt shorter than expected (and honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if some time was taken off). Afterward, they just handed us a QR code for the recording and that was basically it, no guidance on where to watch it, nothing. As we were leaving, another family was calling out that same front desk employee, apparently also unhappy with how they were treated. Then, while a customer was walking out, she loudly yelled at them about having "bad breath." Completely unprofessional and uncomfortable to witness. This isn't a cheap activity. When you're paying that much, basic courtesy and hospitality should be a given. The Emeryville location consistently had warm, helpful staff and made the experience worth it. This location felt the opposite. We won't be returning and we definitely won't be recommending it either. Happy customers come back. Service like this pushes them away. Even though it was yesterday July 16th, I do not remember all the names of the staff that helped me and my friend Jules, but I do remember that they were very clear, helpful, friendly and professional. Jalen took great pictures of me and Jules before we walked into the game room, one guy there, Brendan or Brad was good with trying to upsell and get us to book another game on the same day. Jules and I were playing the Rebel Moon game and something happened with my VR screen. I raised my hand to indicate that I needed help or to pause the game. Jalen got right on it and my vr screen was fixed quickly. Later I wanted to ask how some of the equipment was disinfected and the other staff answered well. Brendan and Jalen made sure we scanned the right QR codes with our phones so we could access the highlight videos. Helpful and exemplary customer service. Oddly no experience feedback or review page on the website but perhaps this review will contribute to including something like that. I remember seeing pictures of previous blaster designs. I like the older versions of the rifle and pistol better. Maybe the new designs are supposed to be less militant and more minimalist. We stood in the room for at least 2 minutes, maybe more, until someone finally come in and resumed the game. Adding the Bday scenario for my son was great. "Running from Killer Zombies!" I stumbled upon this business while looking for another shop. The nice young lady at Sandbox took me on a tour and explained how the whole thing works. If you're not familiar with this experience, you put sensors on each limb, wear a vest, headset, goggles, and also wield a gun, which can also double as a sword. You have a variety of VR experience to choose from. You can kill zombies or aliens, or have wizards turn you into toads. Very sophisticated and clever! I guess this experience would work better in a small group, so I'm coming back with some friends. I bet I can kill more zombies than they can. read more

We arrived about ten minutes before our appointment time and we were told that they were running behind schedule. I appreciate that they explained the reason for the delay. We waited for an extra 30 minutes. The staff was apologetic and they offered us free water bottles. Once the game started they suited us up then explained the game to us. We chose to fight aliens. We had a lot of fun as a family and it was great to see ourselves in the video afterwards. What a great way to spend an hour with your family! read more

We did the Sandbox VR for my boyfriend's birthday a few months ago. Each game is quite pricey, it's $50-$60 per person and the game itself is about 30 minutes. If you care about being #1 in your team, I suggest getting the upgraded weapon which I believe was $5 extra. I think up to two people can get the upgraded weapon and they will usually be the top performing. I highly suggest avoiding the double gun option as your weapon, since I had that and I was last place haha. The game itself is pretty fun and it's cool to see how VR works. I think based on the pricing, it's fun but I'm not sure I'd want to spend that again for a game. read more

Been here about 3-4 times in the past week or two and I love it. All of the staff was friendly (Jared, Josh and Jaylen among others) and the games are all fun. Some can be replaced with different paths and choices, while some are more linear. Absolutely liked Amber Skies and the Deadwood series. One of the times we went there was a glitch that took maybe 8-10 minutes to resolve, but otherwise it has been a good experience always. I hope they release more games and find ways to make games that you've already played fresh and different. This is definitely a cool experience and something you need to try. Customer service via phone was excellent when I called to inquire about the virtual reality experience. Because it was our first time, everything was explained clearly- from scheduling a session to recommendations which games ranked best. The only minor issue I had was running the gift card online, but that was quickly resolved when I called over the phone to settle the payment. We had a private session for six reserved on a Saturday afternoon, and it was super busy. We arrived early as advised and completed the waiver online. Our host checked us in and assured us that even though they were running a few minutes behind, the kids will get the full experience. The kids were assisted into the equipments and after a short in service, they were led into their room to play the Squid Games. As a non participant, I was allowed to watch from a screen right outside the room. The kids were able to stow their sweatshirts, purse, and phones in the cubbies. The fans were turned on to keep the players cool. Just under thirty minutes of play, yet the kids were sweaty, but definitely well enjoyed! Three video trailers were sent to me, photo ops were plentiful, and overall a positive experience. Price point is pretty high though, so choose wisely as to which game you want to try. Like noted above, it can get pretty busy so please be kind to the workers since they are doing their best to run things smoothly for all the parties. Called in and spent over 45 minutes on hold trying to get someone on the line to book the experience over the phone. Still on hold... their voice mailbox is also full. The other time I booked "Seekers of the Shard" and the experience was extremely laggy. Update: to use the gift card to book, you have to select credit card and there's a "Gift Card" field there. For today's game we arrived at our appointment time, but had to wait for 30 minutes because they were backed up. There were other groups just waiting in the lobby and no one was around to greet or help them. The squid game was fun overall though. I came here recently for a holiday staff event with my dental office. None of us have ever done a VR experience before so this was new for all of us. Sandbox VR is located in the Bishop Ranch City Center. I used to live in San Ramon, so luckily I am familiar with how busy the City Center area can get- especially during particular days of the week/time of day. Because the area itself can get crowded easily due to the number of restaurants/movie theater/etc in this area, plan accordingly. I would park in the garage on the South Side/ off of Camino Ramon. Sandbox VR is above Pottery Barn and West Elm, if that helps. So if you park in the garage on the 2nd or 3rd floor on that side, you should have easy access to finding it. 3rd floor in the garage on that side had a lot of parking when we went around 3:30pm on a Friday. We had a big group of about 15 or 16. Only 6 can play at a time and we made 2 reservations. It ended up being ok for our group because we had a few people running late. We started with whoever was there on time and the people who were running late got to play the next game. We are all adults and some welcomed to sub out and play only one game. This may not work for all groups but it worked for ours. You individually sign in at the kiosks in the front entrance, which is probably why they ask you to show up 15 minute early so make sure everyone is in the system. They show you "previews" of the different types of VR experiences you can have. My group chose "The Curse of Davey Jones" for the first one, which is like pirate-themed. And the "Squid Game" one for the second. The staff were nice in helping us gear up- you put banded sensors on your wrists and ankles. Then when you get into the room, you get a vest and the goggles/headgear with microphone. If your game has any props, they will hand them to you once you are in VR. There are cubbies in your specific room for your belongings. They give you some instruction before you start and ask you to raise your hand at any time during the experience if you need more help. During the pirate one, we did have quite a few glitches in which we had to stop and they had to reboot the system. FYI- they did say that if you touch the goggles/headgear it can shake the system and cause the glitches. So when they help you put on the gear, I would make sure it fits well and comfortably. We had no issues with the Squid Game one. The reality is that it's all high tech stuff (lots of different gear with sensors and microphone that are all supposed to integrate) and technology can have glitches.. so it is what it is. After your experience, you get an email showing clips of your group playing in real life and VR. It's a good laugh. It's tough to find cool activities for groups, so we all enjoyed trying something different. read more

We did Seekers of the Shard, and the process of getting set up went smoothly (thanks to Harrison who helped our group this past Sunday). The gear makes it hot while in action, and the fit and sound quality were not consistent among each individual within our group. But the graphics and overall adventure were amazing. Our weapons were functional throughout the experience without any technical issues. And they added a little something extra for celebrating a bday. We had a fun time, and the video at the end that showed how funny we looked while in the virtual reality was emailed to everyone at no extra cost. read more

I made a reservation for my husband as a birthday present. He and the other guests in his group had never experienced VR gaming before so they were really excited. The online booking system is great, very user friendly. They send out reminders and detailed instructions a couple of times leading up to the event date which I appreciated. They immediately send you a link to a video recording of highlights from the session which is really fun. The only issue we had was we think one of the headsets wasn't working properly. My husband said the image quality in his googles was low and really blurry. He described it as looking at a 3D image without wearing the 3D glasses. He said it was blurry enough that when one of the characters was talking, he wasn't able to see enough facial details to tell who was talking. Because he had never done this before, he thought this was normal. The other guests said the images in their headsets were much sharper so we think his was probably just broken. I did call immediately when he told me so the staff could pull/test that headset so no one else is disappointed. My husband said despite this, it was a fun team/group event and he would consider doing it again in the future. Update: owner or manager replied to my post and requested I email them to provide additional details and to allow them to "make things right." I emailed them but never heard back. :( read more

Until this store extends their insure 5 minute grace period to the standard 15 minutes that every other establishment, including doctors offices abide by, I will not be back. The amount of times I have been here and dealt with equipment glitching, mid game power outages, new and training employees who have made our gaming experience lag on far longer than our stated times and we never complained. But one person in our group being 1 minute outside the 5 minute mark somehow gives them the right to refuse our entire group entry and refuse a refund. Who does this company think they are? This is not a hospital, this is not an airport. 5 minutes is a ridiculous time for a grace period. Especially when the whole group was at the address, just 1 person was finding parking in a busy lot. On top of this the 5 minute policy was no where on the confirmation email, you can only find it by going through additional links. This is actually very unethical. read more

There are only 2 ways this can go. Either I have an awesome time or not. Unfortunately, I couldn't have an awesome time. This was my first time trying this, and it definitely seemed promising in the beginning. A few minutes into the game, my weapon wouldn't fire. The game had to be paused numerous times to check my weapon to the point that the weapon was swapped out for another unit, so I'm told. It must've been true because now my weapon only fired after I took my finger off the trigger, and after a few minutes, the game was over. The experience was quite frustrating, to say the least. Visited on a Tuesday morning to celebrate my sons 11th birthday! I made a reservation for three a few days before and we showed up about twenty minutes early. They sent several emails leading up to our reservation reminding us of the time and asking us to arrive early. When we got there we were greeted immediately and checked in at the kiosk. Our support person was extremely kind and understanding. My daughter is only 8 and had a little trouble getting her gear on. Our support person was compassionate and patient with her. It took us about 15 minutes to get checked in and geared up. We had SO much fun! Even with our small group of three it was so great to play along with each other inside the headset. We have an oculus at home and play often but, this is another level! We played the pirate game which was the most appropriate one for small kids (in my opinion). It was still a little scary at times for my 8 year old. However, my son absolutely loved it. We will definitely be back again with friends! I would also totally do this again with an adult group. I really appreciated that our support person wore a mask. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars is because all three of our headsets either died or malfunctioned throughout the game. We came here to celebrate my son's birthday. So much fun for the kids and quite hilarious for us parents watching them kicking their legs and flailing their arms around as they were completely immersed into a virtual world of aliens. We arrived 15 min early but they were running 30 min late. It's good to come early anyway as you need to sign up and fill out waivers on the kiosk. The staff seemed overwhelmed but it was the weekend and there were lots of parties. But once it's your turn, your coordinator is there taking care of your party. He directed them to put on the sensors. He gave them their vests, helped them put on their goggles and headsets. The experience is about 30 min. They had a short warm up, then it was GAME ON! Definitely a cool experience. Been eyeing this place for awhile. Curiosity got the better of me and decided to spend the $$. Tips: make a reservation online. Get there on time to sign in on one of the tablets up front. Be prepared to wait for your turn. Go with a group of friends so you don't have to get grouped with randos. If you're a scaredy cat, do the futuristic Amber Sky 2088 VR experience vs the zombie or pirate. You shoot at aliens and the graphics are super cool. I dinged one star because the wait was very long. Reservation was at 7:45p, we left around 9:30p. There's a long wait due to all the cleaning in between and the individual set up per person to actually start the VR experience. Also, my headset stopped working unexpectedly and the pause during the session really messed up the experience. They had to do a hard reset to my headset which took a few minutes. Not a huge deal but it derailed the experience for me. Not sure I'll be back unless I had a large group to go with. Definitely cool to try at least once. read more

The sensors were a bit confusing to put on at the beginning by ourselves but the young lady with glass (maybe the supervisor I guess) who works there was very friendly and helped us to set things straight. The game itself was awesome and didn't feel dizzy at all although I always have problem with psvr and quest headset. the headset was less than perfect though because it kept echoing which was annoying. My son was excited to play, met all requirements but because she saw him get frustrated that his dad was able to play before him, she wouldn't let my husband and son play and join another group. My son may express moments of frustration but that's only because he loves to play VR games, no matter what type of game it is. He is capable of participating in large groups and wear the equipment. He was only upset and cried because he wanted to play, Rebecca didn't even give a him a chance. For a company that promotes family friendly environments.. this is not one. We booked a last minute session for my son's birthday with 4 of his friends. There were lots of times available online and although we didn't have 6 people for a private session the boys had the room to themselves. Check-in was easy and Josh was very patient with helping the boys get set up. The equipment wasn't easy to put on so definitely arrive at least 15 minutes before your session. Josh was upbeat and friendly and I was able to stay in the room and take pictures. The boys had a blast playing Squid Game. They all agreed it was better than the ones they've done before. The actual VR was about 30 minutes and they added a short VR birthday party for my son. Afterwards they watch a short video of themselves playing which we were able to download as well.
