Zou's doesn't measure up to the other Chinese spot in town. They're very similar in size. The staff was friendly. The service was prompt. Prices were on par with similar restaurants. Unfortunately, the food wasn't good. The hot and sour soup was super bland. It was as though they ran out of soup and refilled the modest amount of remnants at the bottom of the container with water to stretch it instead of making more. The General Tso's was ok. They allowed me to order it mild per my wife's request which was nice. I ordered and paid for the fried rice upgrade but received white rice. My daughters egg drop soup also appeared to be watered down, not as badly as the hot and sour but noticeably so. Not a fan. My wife was a huge fan of Lucky China. They knew her voice when she called in and named her special order sushi roll after her.... that's how much she ordered from there. They sold to Mr. Lin and they're decidedly better than this place just not quite the same as Lucky China. The only reason we tried Zou's is because Mr. Lin happened to be closed yesterday. We won't be going back. read more

Zou's Kitchen - Gen Tso's chicken hold the spice per wife special request... she said was so-so - Chinese Near Me - Helena, Alabama

I have food allergies so most restaurants are out for me... probably why this restaurant is even more special to me. While my daughter surfs around the menu and tries different things (always happy with her choices, too), I have the shrimp and broccoli with rice from the healthy choice menu. I get it with no sauce/no MSG...basically just plain and it always tastes fabulous. The shrimp is always perfectly done. Haven't ever had a problem with cross-contamination either. I love the fact that I can get a great meal close to home. read more

Believe it or not, pretty good Chinese food in a strip mall in Helena!! It's better than the Chinese place just next door by neighborhood market. I typically order the steamed chicken with vegetables. It's delicious every time and the service is good! read more

Like several other people who have commented here, we came because of the reviews. I'm from Manhattan and this is as good as any Chinese restaurant back in New York for sure!! From the fried rice to the General Tso's Chicken, even the egg rolls -- all were fresh and delicious. Zou (Joe) the owner and all the staff are friendly and attentive. The decor fits the locale, just behind a gas station, but it only adds to the charm. Oh, and big portions - come hungry!! read more

Service was relatively quick, and the serving staff was pleasant. The food itself is rather bland, and I ended up having to add some extra seasonings to make it more palatable. While it wasn't unpleasant, there are plenty of other Americanized Chinese restaurants around that will give you better tasting food for the same (or less) money. The atmosphere isn't that great, considering that it has a very small dining area that can't really hold more than about 8 or 9 people comfortably, and the tables are scrunched together too closely. While I was trying to park my car, some of the customers exiting the restaurant were giving me some dirty looks for no particular reason. I don't fault the restaurant for that, though, and simply consider it bad luck that I ran into those people. I won't say "don't eat here," since it does serve a decent purpose, that you can get some quick Americanized Chinese food at a fair price, and that it does fill you up while not being bad, but given how competitive the market for Americanized Chinese food is these days, it's simply not a very good bang for the buck. I'm also open to trying it again in the future. Maybe the cooks were a bit off their marks that day, which can happen to any place. Until then, though, I stand by my remarks here. read more

I order the chicken wings and fried rice. The wings so dried out and small and 2 dips is rice dry. I paid 6.57 plus tax not worth it. Use to have some nice size wings. read more

We love Zou's !! they are so friendly and the food is really really good. They always have my order correct, the price is pretty decent, but since its like 2 min from my house, its really the only place we get chinese takout from. You won't be disappointed. Don't eat in unless you like a very cozy (small dining area). We always get it to go !! read more

We have been eating at Zoe's kitchen for a very very long time. The food is always good and very hot. Lately we've been getting it to go of course but overall excellent food and the service is great. read more

Great price! Good food! Fast service! I would 100% recommendation them... especially the Kung Pao chicken!

Great food and love the safety measures they've put in place due to covid. Our favorite Chinese food spot in Helena!

I'm picky about Chinese food and this place has never disappointed me. We love their Orange Chicken and egg rolls. But pretty much everything else we have ordered here has been great! The owners and staff are nice. read more

I had to drive pretty far to get to the restaurant and was so excited to check it out. When we entered the restaurant my first thought was its small and not really a eat in place, more for take out. I ordered Mongolian beef and my husband got honey chicken. The restaurant did not offer refills, you had to purchase 20 oz sodas and pour it in foam cups over ice. The food is mediocre and the atmosphere is not that great. I have been looking for a Asian restaurant nearby and was really hoping this was it and it wasn't. The food had me and my family straight to the restroom. I read over their reviews before checking them out and was really expecting more. read more

Best oriental food around! Staff so friendly! Worth the trip to Helena! Quality of food is impressive and prices are so reasonable!

Zou's is a small casual restaurant. It's family run and all of the staff is really friendly and the food is great!

Zou's Kitchen is one of my go-to places for takeout. We adopted our daughter from Chine in 2006; she's now 6 years old, and she really really likes Zou's Kitchen. Her favorite, which they ALWAYS accommodate us with, is the egg drop soup combined with steamed rice. When she was a baby in China, babies had a very similar dish called cangee (spelling?), so who knows if that's why. I LOVE the Singapore noodles, they're very very good. Prices are very reasonable, and I love talking to the owners and chef, and their family. This is a great place, and I have never had a bad experience nor bad food. read more

After getting hooked on DC Chinese food and the homecooking of my Chinese roommates, this is the only place I go for Chinese takeout now. I'm not crazy about the lo mein (hence the four stars) but their fried rice is awesome, dumplings are delicious, and crab rangoon is perfect for dessert. They're always really nice and food is ready super-fast and always hot. read more

By far the best Chinese Food around. Not a place to dine in unless your out and about it is a take home place. But, omg the food is awesome. I drive from alabaster to helena to get take home. Yummy read more

Love the food and the owners are awesome people. I try and support local places of business and they make it an awesome experience

Our go-to for Chinese in Helena. Always fresh, fast, and professional. The hot and sour soup is wonderul as well as their garlic chicken. My husband loves the pork fried rice. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves Chinese food and for those who don't they might change your mind. read more

Cheap, close, and good. I love the food and lunch prices are great!! The family who owns it is so nice!

Love this restaurant!!! It's a little hole in the wall but the food is amazing . I love their shrimp egg foo yung and crab Rangoon . The pork lo me in is one of my favorites also. The service is awesome and they are very friendly. read more

I love this Chinese. It is truly one of the best in town. I love the staff and the menu. It's perfect for a quick call in and pick up.

Chinese comfort food at its best. You won't find the authentic dishes here like you'll find at the Red Pearl, Great Wall or Mr. Chen's, but you will find solid interpretations of Americanized Chinese food. read more

Best Chinese food around! Food is always hot when we pick it up. A little crowded for dine in.

Quick, hot, fresh and tasty. I call ahead and its ready in minutes. I always get take out so cant comment on the dining area. been many times with no issues. will certainly go back read more

Excellent family service and very delicious food. Call ahead ordering or dine in. Love this place.

Zou's kitchen's food is very tasty compared to other American-style Chinese restaurants. Although the food is not authentic Chinese but definitely five star for American friends. The owner is really nice and friendly. My wife and I drove from east coast to west, and occasionally found it here. But it did not let our Chinese stomach be frustrated. read more

My family and I love this place for a quick "Grab and Go" on a night where there is nothing planned for dinner or we just don't want to cook. Reasonable Prices. Family Friendly. Their Sesame Chicken Combo is GREAT and so is their General Zou's Combo. read more

Authentic Chinese food. They make everything fresh, so your food will be served hot even if you order to go. I'm usually picky about Chicken Lo Mien from Chinese restaurants, but they cooked it to my liking and it is by far the best around. Their website even makes it easy to do pick-up orders. Highly recommend! read more

I was excited to find this little hole-in-the-wall shop near my home. The shop itself is very small and cramped (same building as a gas station). But the food is very good. Their Chinese dumplings are so flavorful and moist and I could just drink the sauce they make for them. They serve the typical takeout staples but each dish seems just a little bit more special than usual. The flavors seem more intense and the meat is always tender. I would never eat at the shop because of its cramped feeling and the fact that the workers have their children doing homework and playing games very loudly at one of the few tables every time I stop by. I definitely recommend this as a takeout staple to all of my friends in Helena. read more

Service is fast for pick up & price is fair but had to deduct two stars due to lack of flavor & food not really worthy to return.

Really love Chinese and love they don't use MSG. Take-out is great and eat-in too! Very friendly and clean. I live very close so I go often. It's best kept secret in Helena! You really need to try it. read more

Mmmmmm pork egg foo young!!!! It is so gooood!!! It's a little mom and pop place that has NEVER made a bad dish. They even have evening combination plates at a great price. When family comes from out of town, we eat there or get it to go at least once. I hate to go anywhere else to eat Chinese. I think my first utensil to use was a chopstick. A couple of times a year we at Chinatown in Chicago. I know good Chinease food. This is it!!!! You stomach and mouth will thank you. read more

Very disappointed. We paid almost 50$ for 4 dinners and it just wasn't very good. Egg rolls and the chicken for the sweet/sour chicken were obviously from frozen. VERY little sauce (not enough) on any meals. Sweet/sour had no vegetables or pineapple or cherries. No sauce on this dish at all - I guess we were to use the sweet/sour sauce that I asked for extra? The rice was lumpy. The cheese rangoons were good but I believe from frozen as well. All in all we will not be returning. On top of everything else the fortune cookies were to stale to be edible. It is hard for me to understand where all these glowing reviews are coming from... read more

I really don't understand the great reviews of this restaurant. The good thing I can say is that the chicken is real white meat chicken (as far as I can tell). I ordered the sweet and sour chicken. The negative is that the chicken did not have any sauce on the outside of the breaded chicken nuggets. I'm not sure if the chef forgot, ran out of sweet and sour sauce or mixed up my order with someone else's. I ended up pouring the red duck (or sweet and sour) sauce over it that came with another dish. It was all very confusing. At any rate, the good news is that the food tastes relatively homemade and the chicken tenders were pretty tasty. Another complaint I have is that the rice that comes with the combos is plain brown rice. Most of the Chinese restaurants I've been to use fried rice with their combos. The food taste and quality is also somewhat inconsistent. The first time we went (we've only been twice) the food was much better. My husband had the soup twice (hot and sour and some type of chicken soup) and did not like either of the soups. The best dish I've had from there is the vegetable fried rice. It was very tasty, although it included those strange little miniature ears of corn which I have never liked (well actually I've never had enough nerve to try them). Service wise, the people seemed to be friendly and appreciative and the order was prepared very rapidly. The food was not exactly steaming hot, which makes me question whether it was pre-cooked and microwaved, or what kind of preparation they do on the dishes. From what my husband said, the place seemed clean and I saw with my own eyes that they had a very high health food inspection score. I guess overall, I could taste the effort that went into the dishes, and I would probably go back at least one more time, but it is not a place I would run back to unless I just wanted to get a craving for Chinese food out of my system. read more

Best Chinese restaurant in Shelby county. The food is outstanding and they are always quick when you order.

We have been eating here for the past 7 to 8 years. We have moved away three times to other places, Lubbock, Baton Rouge and Pensacola and we have never found a Chinese restaurant that can compare to Zou's Kitchen. Absolutely the best Chinese food we've had. The owners are extremely nice and their service is awesome. If you haven't been to Zou's Kitchen you are missing out. I would recommend the special hot and sour soup and their specially made hot oil!! read more
