I have food allergies so most restaurants are out for me... probably why this restaurant is even more special to me. While my daughter surfs around the menu and tries different things (always happy with her choices, too), I have the shrimp and broccoli with rice from the healthy choice menu. Service was relatively quick, and the serving staff was pleasant. The food itself is rather bland, and I ended up having to add some extra seasonings to make it more palatable. While it wasn't unpleasant, there are plenty of other Americanized Chinese restaurants around that will give you better tasting food for the same (or less) money. The atmosphere isn't that great, considering that it has a very small dining area that can't really hold more than about 8 or 9 people comfortably, and the tables are scrunched together too closely. While I was trying to park my car, some of the customers exiting the restaurant were giving me some dirty looks for no particular reason. I don't fault the restaurant for that, though, and simply consider it bad luck that I ran into those people. I won't say "don't eat here," since it does serve a decent purpose, that you can get some quick Americanized Chinese food at a fair price, and that it does fill you up while not being bad, but given how competitive the market for Americanized Chinese food is these days, it's simply not a very good bang for the buck. I'm also open to trying it again in the future. Maybe the cooks were a bit off their marks that day, which can happen to any place. Until then, though, I stand by my remarks here. read more

We love Zou's !! they are so friendly and the food is really really good. They always have my order correct, the price is pretty decent, but since its like 2 min from my house, its really the only place we get chinese takout from. You won't be disappointed. Like several other people who have commented here, we came because of the reviews. I'm from Manhattan and this is as good as any Chinese restaurant back in New York for sure!! From the fried rice to the General Tso's Chicken, even the egg rolls -- all were fresh and delicious. Zou (Joe) the owner and all the staff are friendly and attentive. The decor fits the locale, just behind a gas station, but it only adds to the charm. Oh, and big portions - come hungry!! read more

I had to drive pretty far to get to the restaurant and was so excited to check it out. When we entered the restaurant my first thought was its small and not really a eat in place, more for take out. I ordered Mongolian beef and my husband got honey chicken. The restaurant did not offer refills, you had to purchase 20 oz sodas and pour it in foam cups over ice. The food is mediocre and the atmosphere is not that great. I have been looking for a Asian restaurant nearby and was really hoping this was it and it wasn't. Our go-to for Chinese in Helena. Always fresh, fast, and professional. The hot and sour soup is wonderul as well as their garlic chicken. My husband loves the pork fried rice. Zou's Kitchen is one of my go-to places for takeout. We adopted our daughter from Chine in 2006; she's now 6 years old, and she really really likes Zou's Kitchen. Her favorite, which they ALWAYS accommodate us with, is the egg drop soup combined with steamed rice. When she was a baby in China, babies had a very similar dish called cangee (spelling?), so who knows if that's why. I LOVE the Singapore noodles, they're very very good. Prices are very reasonable, and I love talking to the owners and chef, and their family. This is a great place, and I have never had a bad experience nor bad food. read more

I was excited to find this little hole-in-the-wall shop near my home. The shop itself is very small and cramped (same building as a gas station). But the food is very good. Their Chinese dumplings are so flavorful and moist and I could just drink the sauce they make for them. They serve the typical takeout staples but each dish seems just a little bit more special than usual. The flavors seem more intense and the meat is always tender. I would never eat at the shop because of its cramped feeling and the fact that the workers have their children doing homework and playing games very loudly at one of the few tables every time I stop by. Very disappointed. We paid almost 50$ for 4 dinners and it just wasn't very good. Egg rolls and the chicken for the sweet/sour chicken were obviously from frozen. VERY little sauce (not enough) on any meals. Sweet/sour had no vegetables or pineapple or cherries. No sauce on this dish at all - I guess we were to use the sweet/sour sauce that I asked for extra? The rice was lumpy. The cheese rangoons were good but I believe from frozen as well. All in all we will not be returning. On top of everything else the fortune cookies were to stale to be edible. Mmmmmm pork egg foo young!!!! It is so gooood!!! It's a little mom and pop place that has NEVER made a bad dish. They even have evening combination plates at a great price. When family comes from out of town, we eat there or get it to go at least once. I hate to go anywhere else to eat Chinese. I think my first utensil to use was a chopstick. We have moved away three times to other places, Lubbock, Baton Rouge and Pensacola and we have never found a Chinese restaurant that can compare to Zou's Kitchen. I really don't understand the great reviews of this restaurant. The good thing I can say is that the chicken is real white meat chicken (as far as I can tell). I ordered the sweet and sour chicken. The negative is that the chicken did not have any sauce on the outside of the breaded chicken nuggets. I'm not sure if the chef forgot, ran out of sweet and sour sauce or mixed up my order with someone else's. I ended up pouring the red duck (or sweet and sour) sauce over it that came with another dish. It was all very confusing. At any rate, the good news is that the food tastes relatively homemade and the chicken tenders were pretty tasty. Another complaint I have is that the rice that comes with the combos is plain brown rice. Most of the Chinese restaurants I've been to use fried rice with their combos. The food taste and quality is also somewhat inconsistent. The first time we went (we've only been twice) the food was much better. My husband had the soup twice (hot and sour and some type of chicken soup) and did not like either of the soups. The best dish I've had from there is the vegetable fried rice. It was very tasty, although it included those strange little miniature ears of corn which I have never liked (well actually I've never had enough nerve to try them). Service wise, the people seemed to be friendly and appreciative and the order was prepared very rapidly. The food was not exactly steaming hot, which makes me question whether it was pre-cooked and microwaved, or what kind of preparation they do on the dishes. From what my husband said, the place seemed clean and I saw with my own eyes that they had a very high health food inspection score. I guess overall, I could taste the effort that went into the dishes, and I would probably go back at least one more time, but it is not a place I would run back to unless I just wanted to get a craving for Chinese food out of my system. read more
