Sesame chicken with broccoli

I often drive by this place, so I finally checked it out. You won't find any authentic Chinese food here (unless there is a secret menu), but that's not necessarily a deal breaker for me. The sesame chicken, broccoli, and egg roll that I had was good American Chinese food. It was also nicely plated for takeout (see picture). This is clearly a family establishment, as the person who took my order and rang me up was a 10 year old. I was glad I got the opportunity to support this business.

Place is great. The other reviewers don't seem to understand that American Chinese food is sort of a genre of it's own. Of course it's not real authentic Chinese food, it was made specifically to cater to Americans by Chinese immigrants when they arrived here. Honestly the place is a nice local spot that you should definitely try if you want that sweet type of American Chinese food. They portions and taste are amazing! Some of the best, although it's hard to go wrong with Americanized Chinese food. Also love the sign, it has a really nice look to it. Overall, loved the food and really enjoyed the atmosphere! Can't go wrong supporting a local business :)

The staff were very nice and explained a few of the food items and what they really enjoyed. The wait time wasn't long at all, only 15 minutes. After that I took it home for us to enjoy and we liked it! Its definitely a nice place to visit if you are craving some good authentic Chinese dishes.

The restaurant itself is also fairly large with a lot of seating a few TVs and a nice dark-wall ambience. In the past, I've had Gen. Tso's chicken with fried rice, which I highly recommend, but today I wanted to do something different so I went with Kung pow chicken, which ads nice fresh vegetables and peanuts to a spicy chicken mix. It's a bit less sweet than General Tso's. I also had egg drop soup which was pleasant and mild as an appetizer. I might want a bit more rice delivered with my meal, my friend today asked for a second rice serving with his dish, and mine was a little short on the very pleasant fried rice. We had terrific service from our waitress, she was helpful and attentive and friendly. After your meal explore the grocery store. There are a lot of unique food opportunities in the cavernous grocery store, and, believe it or not, there's a ping pong tournament space in the back. A fun and fascinating visit.

The energy inside was lively, full of students and guests chatting about their days, studying, and bouncing around really. It felt like the heart of UAB campus. When it came to my food I did have to come back after small time break because the lo mein (my go-to). After I came back to place my order, I got half lo mein and fried rice with teriyaki chicken as my protein. The lo mein was worth the wait! It was my first time trying the teriyaki chicken and I definitely will be ordering again! The atmosphere made the meal even better, energetic, social, and full of those random, conversations you only hear at the Hill! I would end this by saying Mein Bowl is a convenient and dependable spot when you're on campus and need something fast.

I noticed the line at Mein Bowl was empty and decided to give it a try and am so glad I did! I got orange chicken, white rice, and some crab rangoons. Everything tasted fresh and the portion size was great I had leftovers that I ate for dinner. The service was so quick compared to the experiences I've had with other places on campus. The staff was so kind and welcoming. I had a few questions and needed some recommendations and the chef was so informative and nice. I definitely will be stopping by Mein Bowl again hoping to try their sushi next time, I cannot believe I never thought to go there in the first place!
