Tofu and Mushrooms in a Clay Bowel

Everything was fabulous. Had a group of about 30 people. I called the day before and we had a room to accommodate us. Food is always good and I'm vegan. Yesterday, the service was especially good!!

Shrimp dumplings

Lots of authentic things on the menu. Vintage vibes Best thing I tried was the cumin lamb. Try the cumin lamb! Crispy spicy chicken was okay Brisket with tofu was not brisket but cow tongue I wasn't a fan of being mislead by that Service was okay but our server didn't write anything down Shrimp dumplings were very authentic and good

Szechuan chicken

Very good food and service. The food came out quickly and hot. The Szechuan chicken and shrimp was delicious

Dan Dan noodles, sautéed pork belly with black bean sauce, crispy spicy chicken. All extra spicy!!

Great Wall is now officially up to snuff with my ridiculously high standards for authentic Chinese food. I had tried it a couple times before but it was never spicy enough as pretty bland. I heard a rumor the chef from red pearl went here. So I have it one more chance and so glad I did. I did have to ask for extra extra extra EXTRAAAA SPICY and they delivered! Crispy spicy chicken, Pork belly and Dan Dan noodles all chefs kiss!

Chicken wings

I feel like most Chinese restaurants are great at one thing and that's your go to. Great Wall is good at many things. We tried a little bit of everything at Great Wall so we could give it a fair chance. Everything was pretty good. The only thing we weren't too fond of was the wings. We are used to getting a fried wing so it just wasn't what we had a taste for. I personally really enjoyed the Mongolian beef. The service was great and we will most definitely be back to try even more of the menu!

Sesame chicken

Going to dream about those wontons later. The service was incredible, our waiter was super sweet. The ambiance is very nice and cozy. The glaze on my sesame chicken was unreal. Moved to the top of the ranks as far as Chinese restaurants go. But also top five for just any restaurant in Birmingham in my book. I'll be back soon.

The restaurant exterior

From a perspective of the staff, they were very professional and respectful. The actual restaurant itself was very well decorated; you can tell that the owner put a lot of work into creating a very pleasant atmosphere. The seating was a bit tight, one of the members of our party had to squeeze in because we were so close to another table. When it came to ordering our first waiter was a little impatient but there were 10 of us so I can't really blame him. The man that came afterwards was very straightforward, and was trying his best even if he misunderstood us at times. The drinks were your average fair, nothing of any special note, but nothing to be dismissive over. I and the other people in the party felt like the food was pretty average for the glowing ratings we'd read on here and on other review services. I ordered the pork fried noodles which was pretty good but wasn't something I'd necessarily order again. The Chinese donuts were AMAZING and I would get them again for sure. Overall, pretty decent and would recommend for a large party, the service was high quality even if the food was about average.

I've always been fond of the chicken and eggplant in a hot pot. Open on Monday's, important in this town.

I have been going here since 1992. This is the best Chinese restaurant in Alabama in my opinion.

Everything was flavorful and delicious. Loved the hot and sour soup, jalapeño beef and Mongolian beef. The tofu noodles had an amazing texture. We got so many things to start with Coconut water rice cake. Yes it does have the consistency of a sponge cake. It was good! I also got some Panda red bean buns. Cute and also good! For drinks: Sake, Taro bubble milk tea, and a Thai milk tea. We tried Winter Melon and clam soup For my entree I got Chicken with Lotus root which I enjoyed, My husband got crispy intestine . (My husband said he has never had it done that well-clean taste ) I tried it and it was ok. My son got the Szechuan style sautéed brisket and he ate it up ! To go yep we got sautéed pork belly and eggplant, pork, & basil . Both were also good. The waiter worked his bum off and we gave him a good tip. The only complaint were the young boys working up front who weren't friendly and acted like working was killing them. Why I didn't give you a 5! Otherwise you would have deserved it !!! All the food was delicious! Now on to the market - I like this better than the hometown market why they have many things I haven't seen including Jin noodles I have been looking everywhere for!!!! We bought many things to try including cucumber, orange, and what I thought was Mango potato chips. Nope it was abalone ! Not so good but the orange was good Of course Jin noodles , tiramisu mochi, banana milk rice snacks(yum) , tamarind drink, orange pepper spice, and chili crisp Our cashier though was joyless . Would I go back to both ? Yes I would!!

My moo goo gai pan had barely any chicken in it. There were huge chunks of vegetables and it was way too starchy. It was like they were trying to compensate for the lack of protein in it. I haven't ordered from them this year, but I did tonight. Listen the economy is rough for everyone but I paid $15 for this chicken and they used maybe 1/8 of a chicken breast in it. Not cool. Hate to leave the negative review, but I need to warn people that they're using filler food to complete the orders and charging more. What's not cool anywhere these days is paying more and getting way less than just a few years ago. All of us are working hard to earn money and it just feels so disappointing to not get what you pay for, especially when you're paying more than you used to. I don't know who to blame for this. If I wanted a carton of vegetables I would have eaten a frozen bag for $2.50 tonight.

The energy inside was lively, full of students and guests chatting about their days, studying, and bouncing around really. It felt like the heart of UAB campus. After I came back to place my order, I got half lo mein and fried rice with teriyaki chicken as my protein. The lo mein was worth the wait! The staff was so kind and welcoming. I had a few questions and needed some recommendations and the chef was so informative and nice. I definitely will be stopping by Mein Bowl again hoping to try their sushi next time, I cannot believe I never thought to go there in the first place!
