Located in a quaint outdoor shopping area right off I-459, China Wok is nestled between the Dollar General and Nails For U. From the outside, CW is rather simple with just a large sign. The interior is dated telling me they have been there awhile. There's a smaller dinning room and a larger one that has tables and an area for their buffet. But overall it's what I would consider cramped. If the buffet gets busy, there's not much wiggle room to walk when people are at the buffet. Their menu is also standard with all the typical dishes that you would expect. In addition to a lunch buffet, they also a lunch special menu with steam or fried rice, egg roll or choice of soups, egg drop, hot & sour or wonton. Their House Specials list include the typical list of asian dishes. I don't see many ordering from the lunch menu since the All You Can Eat lunch buffet is only $12. On this Friday, the lunch buffet was very popular and busy. I have not had an asian buffet in awhile. This buffet had an impressive variety of dishes including a small sampling of desserts. They had the usual egg drop and hot and sour soup, both of which were on par. The coffee cake and fried sugar donuts were very good. There was a fried rice, lo mein and steamed rice. The bulk of the buffet were chicken dishes with a beef and veggies and a pepper shrimp dish. My favorites were the salt and pepper chicken, General tsao chicken and pepper shrimp. Yom Yom Yom! The entire restaurant could use a little more room and a facelift. The atmosphere was nice. At the peak of the lunch hour, the place was practically full with pretty much everyone at the buffet or filling to go boxes off the buffet. The servers were very helpful and prompt. For the the variety and price, this ayce buffet is hard to beat. I would definitely return when I get the chance. read more

Best Chinese takeout in the Bessemer/Hoover area! My favorite is the Lo Mein. But I've not had anything that didn't taste good.

Been disappointed by the other Chinese food options in the area for some time now. Tried this place, and food was very good. Prices a bit higher, and you should get two bags of noodles to go with a large soup w/o having to pay .75 for a second bag! But, will likely return. read more

I will NEVER order food from them again. I ordered the Chicken with Broccoli and Steamed Dumplings. Upon eating the chicken with broccoli there WAS A BUG LEG IN MY FOOD. So I took the food back to the restaurant and they tried to make it seem like I put the bug leg in my food on purpose just to get my money back. Thats a bad way to do a customer especially when I'm trying to get the situation resolved. After arguing with them they finally gave me my money back. I has been supporting this business for years. It's no way the cashier who's also been here a long time, doesn't recognize the familiar face. Tonight, I was attempted to be charged $.75 extra for the same substitution I've been getting in the combination appetizer. She says she's never done that for me, so it's extra. So I take 2 shrimp off and sub for extra egg roll, I pay $.75 more. I take 2 shrimp off and ask for something else other than the egg roll that's within the same price range, you tell me no substitute of those items. So I take the shrimp off without getting anything extra instead and you say I will still pay the same. However, she's substituted shrimp for extra pork or chicken in the noodle dish. I don't understand how now that's okay in one but not the other. I would understand if it's no substitutions, period and since we have a shrimp allergy I'd simply choose something else. I begin to say how I patronize the business weekly and she shrugs her shoulders, says I can have it this time but no more and cashes me out with an attitude. Clearly, she doesn't care about faithful customers, so I'll find a new place to support for our weekly Asian cuisine. read more

Some of the best Chinese food in town! It's inexpensive and delicious. I ordered the beef Lo mein. It's packed with beef and goodness. They have a Friday night buffet that gets really crowded. I usually order to go though. Everything is ready in "10 minutes" haha..no matter what you order they say "10 minute " Can't wait to go back! read more

I went for the lunch buffet. It is a small buffet so there isn't a whole lot to choose from. I had the chicken and broccoli which was very good. My daughter had the sesame chicken which she really liked. Overall, I think the food here is good. Ordered takeout and was a little disappointed. Husband thought the food was just OK. He had the sesame chicken. I had the Kung pao chicken. There wasn't much in the way of vegetables in it, except for celery. Felt like they skimped on real vegetables. Way too much celery. The lunch hour buffet is very good - no, excellent. My wife and I frequent this establishment at least twice per month. As in all buffet restaurants it is self service. The staff brings beverages. The dining areas are dimly lit. But it is the variety of Chinese cuisine - or Chinese-American cuisine - that is so delicious and plentiful. read more

Food was tasty and cooked fresh. My first time trying this restaurant. We ordered combination plates of Sesame Chicken and General Tso chicken. Both were really good. I would definitely recommend if you are in the neighborhood and craving Chinese food. I did order takeout because I live close. My only gripe was with the egg rolls. Horrible food and bad service. Ordered beef chow mein which is listed as crispy noodles on the menu but instead we received a dish with beef and vegetables with no noodles whatsoever. When I brought this to the attention of the server/cashier she actually argued with me that this is what the store considered chow mein. I've ordered chow mein numerous times at other restaurants and never has this been the case. The "chow mein" was bland and the hot and sour soup was more sweet than sour.
