The mongoloan beef was really sweet and not spicy at all, and as a previous reviewer mentioned there were a LOT of white onions and just barely any green onions (scallions) at all. The locals probably like that, bit not quite authentic. I get it, play to your clientele. Dragon roll was nice, but I did have to remind the waitress that I had ordered it. You can get white or fried rice. We both got fried. You can also get an egg roll with it. We both liked our food a lot. Service was great. They are really nice in there. I told her we would go anywhere she wanted for her birthday dinner and she chose Golden City. That worked for me because she loves Chinese food and I love sushi and I have to say, the sushi is excellent every single time (according to my daughter, so is the Chinese food). After picking up a Facebook marketplace purchase we happened to pass this gem. We were both in the mood for Chinese and this place delivered! First off, they give you a yummy fried wonton app for free. I've never had that at a Chinese restaurant. Second, they had the best yum yum sauce I've ever had. It was so good! I ordered the sesame chicken. It was okay, definitely too sweet and not enough sesame seeds. This is our go to Asian food place! We have tried all of the Chinese restaurants around the Alabaster, Helena, Pelham, Hoover area and this is by far one of the best. Typically, we have ordered takeout here, but today we dined in. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and sweet. Service was fast. We have ordered a bunch of dishes in the past, but today we ordered crab wontons, the golden dragon roll, the Las Vegas roll, the egg drop soup, and the steak hibachi. The crab wontons were okay. But the sauce that came with them was really really runny and watery. So that didn't help with the flavor. The chicken fried rice was awful! First of all, I hate when place put allllllllll the things in fried rice. Bro play, corn on the cobs, mushroom, long pieces of onion. Yuck. And then after that, there was no flavor! This Chinese restaurant is so close to where I live I could probably throw an egg roll from my front porch and hit their sign (not really, but it's extremely convenient to where I live). The menu features all the American-Chinese standards you'd expect (my new favorite is the Beef Lo Mein--excellent). And they also have an extensive sushi menu. One complaint: the prices. This inflationary period has prompted seemingly every business and restaurant to gouge their prices, and Golden City is no exception. But hey, if you can handle the unreasonable cost of lunch and dinner, it's worth a try. read more

Classic Mongolian Beef contains green onions. This chef uses over one whole cup of white onions, spoiling the taste. The chef said he adds 8 ounces of beef to every order. My order may have contained 5 ounces and no green onions. My complaint fell on deaf ears. Very disappointing. read more

This has become one of my go-to spots during the pandemic. I love having such a good Chinese place so close to my house. Golden City also has one of the most COVID-19-safe set-ups I have seen from any restaurant, with a floor-to-ceiling barrier between the customer and the rest of the restaurant. To pick up your food, you pay through a small hole in the barrier and get the food out of a box similar to those in pharmacy drive-through windows. They are definitely taking precautions to keep their employees and customers safe. I usually get some type of chicken from here, but I had heard their sushi was good too, so I tried that. I got a cucumber roll and a salmon avocado roll with a cup of egg drop soup, and I was not disappointed. A lot of times I am still hungry after eating just sushi but this was filling and delicious. I definitely recommend it. The only thing I don't love about this place is that their food is served in all plastic and styrofoam, but I guess that's to be expected for to-go orders from most restaurants. It would be awesome if they could find some more sustainable packaging, but overall it's an awesome spot. read more

I got the Mongolian Beef lunch special, and it tasted SO fresh. The flavor was the best I've had in the area, and it wasn't super oily like most places I've had.
