Phad Kra Pow chicken

Don't understand why this place only has 39 reviews. Perhaps it's why I consider them a "hole in the wall" gem. I always tell myself I should try something else but I keep ordering my favorite, the Deep Fried Catfish with house sweet chili sauce on a bed of steam mixed vegetables. Oh my goodness... Yom Yom Yom Yom! Matthew got the fried rice which is pretty standard, but with their thai twist and it was also delicious. This is just an update to my original review a couple of years ago and they are still one of my top Thai places in Birmingham. They are a hidden gem. Service can be a little slow when they are slammed, but food-wise, they will not disappoint.

My husband, son and I visited Charm Thai last night. We got a table quickly which was great, however, it took a little while to get our food. I did understand because there was a big table who had just ordered ahead of us plus we were told some of the servers had called in sick. The food was great. I enjoyed the Pad King with shrimp. It came with a salad and rice, and the ginger sauce was so good. The ambiance with soft music and low light made it nice and relaxing.

I was not impressed with this restaurant at all . I got Chicken pad Thai . Was originally Chicken and shrimp I omitted the shrimp . Well thought I'd get extra chicken but nope hardly any chicken was in this dish . Like 5 small pieces for a whole plate of pad Thai . Definitely not like Hoover Food Mart ( the best Thai in Hoover ) we got an appetizer of miso and chicken wings . Wings were not good or fresh just frozen chicken. The soup wasn't good either ( they didn't charge for the soup) . And the wait for our food was ridiculous. At least 30 min for our food . My husband had the Hibachi chicken and steak and he said it was really good . But we won't be back because I was not impressed.

Drunken Noodle

The drunken noodle was very good. It had plenty of meat and vegetables. Most places don't put broccoli in their drunken noodle, but Charm Thai has it along with all the other typical ingredients. Big portion too. Highly recommend.

Good service. Delicious Thai food. Presented in an appetizing way. Easy to get to. What else can you ask for?

Phad Kra Pow Ground Chicken with Fried Egg Lunch

I loved this new Thai and Japanese restaurant in Hoover. Wife and I had lunch on Saturday. The small restaurants is elegantly quaint. It has been opened for only a couple of month, and was not crowded for lunch on Saturday. Our waiter told us Friday night was very busy. I ordered from the lunch menu. Lunch includes a bowl of soup, and today the soup was popular Thai coconut soup. The soup was good, but it was only luke warm. I ordered the Phad Kra Pow Ground Chicken with Fried Egg and I was quite impressed. It was very tasty, and my request of "medium" spice level was just right for me. The portion was huge and I brought home leftovers for later. Besides Thai dishes, the menu included a wide variety of Japanese hibachi entrees and sushi. The worker told us that they have not yet hired a sushi chef so it not yet available. Also, I believe they are still working on getting license to serve alcohol. I recommend this place and look forward to returning to try other Thai dishes.

I do feel like Birmingham could use another good Thai restaurant and this place honestly has a LOT of potential. We went for lunch and there are a good number of lunch specials with prices about on par with what you expect these days. The restaurant is cute and I really like their canvases on the walls and their pretty menu cover lol. Lunch specials come with a soup (different ones depending on the day of the week). While it could stand to be hotter (temperature-wise), it was tasty and had a good amount of stuff (tofu, mushroom, and tomatoes) in it instead of just broth like most Thai complimentary soups We ordered their masaman chicken and another dish that I can't think of the name. It took about 10 minutes or so for the food to come out, but the entrees were fresh. We were impressed with the portion size! Much better than the Taste of Thailand. Much. Again, they were not stingy on the ingredients. In fact, there were some stuff in my Masaman chicken that I wasn't really used to because there was so much variety in it! Chicken, potato, sweet potato, carrots, avocado, peanuts, etc. It was good overall though I would suggest cashew instead of peanuts for texture purposes. Also, more importantly, the sauce was just too thin. I would love the dish instead of just like the dish if the sauce was thicker. Should be an easy fix, I am hoping they read this and fix it lol.

Good restaurant the one time we went when they were open. We've been 3 other times and it was closed because owner/cook didn't show up.

Food was very good. Service was good but not real attentive. Lunch prices were good. Finding the restaurant was a bit of a challenge.

What a pleasant experience!…read more I ate here one afternoon as part of a self-care day. Upon entering, I immediately felt as if I were taking part in a celebration as I took in all of the vivid colors and decorations that adorned the space. I was warmly greeted, and taken to a table that had been freshly wiped clean. My server was very sweet and recommended several appetizers to start my dining experience. She complimented my handbag and we shared small talk over the uniqueness of it. She also brought out chilled tap water that I requested and poured it into a small glass. I decided to try the lavender lemonade and I'm happy I did. It was glass of my favorite childhood drink served in a restaurant. The lemonade was sweet as if my mama made it and the lavender added just the right pizazz to the drink. Plus it was a pretty drink! I loved the fresh flowers that added an elegant touch. Now for the main course. I opted for the drunken uncle noodles with beef lunch special that includes a complimentary crispy roll. The roll could've been a tad bit warmer, but not a deal breaker. It was still tasty with just the right amount of crunch. The star was the drunken uncle noodles. They were absolutely delicious! The spices, the flavors, the tenderness of the noodles and beef were all superb! I've been thinking of this dish since I ate it and I can't wait to order it again and again! Yum Yai...from the welcoming ambience, to the friendly service, to the exquisite meal...you have earned this 5 star review. Keep shining bright!

Friday special is my favorite but if you are one of the lucky ones that dines there on a day when they have yellow noodle bowl, you are blessed. It is very rare. It says Hoover Food Mart on the sign, a homage to their humble beginnings in this building back when it was an operating gas station. Unique, special, delicious. Entrees were combination fried rice and Pad Pak. Pretty good. Real fresh veggies with chicken and an extra fried egg, just love the ingredients. We had checked in at our hotel a bit later than planned and hence were hungry. My wife found this…read moreplace listed as the closest Thai place, so we drove there. It is located in a large plaza that spas both sides of the road. The opposite side looked more like a small shopping mall with higher end restaurants, but we didn't explore it. The side where this restaurant is located is anchored by a Publix. There was plenty of parking in the shared lot. I don't think that this place was what either of us expected, which was a restaurant where you ordered from your table. Instead, this place had a more 'hole in the wall' vibe, but in a generally good way. They had about 6 tables total in a fairly small space. You ordered at the counter and they brought the food out later. They were almost constantly fielding phone-in orders for to-go food. They had limited drinks available (including water) but no alcohol. The staff was friendly. The food came out before long, and we both agreed it was very good. My curry was quite flavorful. My wife liked her vegetable dish as well. So, just know what to expect. If you want to impress someone on a first date, this may not be the venue for you. If you are just here for the food, then this is a great choice. If I lived in the area and wanted Thai take-out, this would absolutely be my first pick.
