I met a friend for breakfast this morning, and everything from start to finish was spot on. I ordered the Sweet Jalapeño Sandwich: an English muffin piled with jam, bacon, an egg cooked over medium, and cheddar, served with home fries. It was the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and just a little kick. My friend stuck with her usual: the Banana & Bourbon Caramel Bread Pudding French Toast, topped with fresh bananas and their homemade bourbon caramel sauce, plus a side of pork belly. It looked incredible and, according to her, tasted just as good as it always does. We arrived just a few minutes after they opened at 8:00 and were seated right away. The service was friendly, attentive, and very prompt without feeling rushed. Scratch has such a great casual, local diner feel, but with a menu that's anything but ordinary. I spent time as a waiter in two different restaurants, so I'm sympathetic, but I did not get a drink refill, and I wanted one pretty badly. There is plenty of parking in the plaza. My company used to frequently order catering from this location. And so, I decided to try something familiar while in the area. This was my first time at their physical location. Deli Feel: The deli has NYC deli feel - subway tiles and vintage deli art. Think a nice Italian elevated deli. It doesn't seem that there is A/C at this location or at least it's not running at its capacity. There were ceiling fans operating but on a hot summer day it was toasty. The restaurant offers tables and booths. I observed that most guests found themselves comfortable in booths. Around 1 PM on a weekday there was a steady crowd dining in and ordering takeout. Ordering: Your order is placed and picked up at the back counter. Signage is a bit disorienting. Think Penn Station type layout. You can also pre-order online. My order was ready quickly. I observed that other guests had to wait awhile. Orders were not called in the numerical order. If you have a large or complex order or are pressed for time, I recommend exploring online ordering. Menu: DiBella's menu is straightforward - subs, mini meals (5" small sub + side + drink), salads, drinks, sides and sweets. They conveniently highlight seasonal menu and top sellers on their menu.
