Beef stew and tendon noodle soup
Vera T.

New ownership, but menu looks the same. Got the beef stew and tendon noodle soup. Not the freshest or best beef noodle soup around. Pro Big portion, free hot tea, price you see is what you pay ( tax included) before tips.

Sad to be updating this review, but unfortunately any remnants of Happy Stony Noodle are long gone. Came back to Zou Ji Lan while craving beef noodle soup, and it is really just does not taste taiwanese. The beef noodle soup preparation really tastes more chinese - like beef brisket noodle soup almost. Unfortunately the broth tastes more like a master stock, and you can clearly tell that the beef was not cooked in the broth. The beef shank, while more tender than the last time, was still quite chewy and flavorless. Pickled mustard greens (my fave) are missing the slight bit of sweetness that rounds out that harsh sour taste. I will commend them on the portion size though - it's a huge bowl of noodles for $12. Overall, food was super disappointing. There's a clear sign now for cash only.

Spicy Calamari

Great Food and Service, during a cold Winter night for dinner. Ordered 3 noodle dishes, fried spicy calimari and the scallion pancake. Probably the best tasting calamari I've ever had. Great service, even though we arrived almost before closing time. Highly Recommend

HAIR

真的好恶心 一打开盖子 里面就有头发 It's sooo disgusting. When I open the lid of the braised pork rice, I immediately saw a piece of HAIR in there.

Food was so bad. Not authentic taiwanese food at all. Absolutely awful. So deceiving. Was like food i could make at home.

1st time trying Maxi's Noodle 2! I can't believe I waited this long! I ordered fried wontons (6 per…read moreorder), beef stew, beef stew (tendons only), 3 toppings lo mein, curry fish balls, 3 toppings in soup & shark fin soup with dace (chunks of fish). Everything was absolutely amazingly fresh and Yummylicious! The wontons are so huge, I have eat it in 2 bites. The best part is there's a jumbo shrimp in each wonton. The dumplings are so addicting too. Especially since I don't like the hard skin but they use a thin wrapping for their dumplings (like their wontons) which I love. For the lo mein, I loved the option to add beef stew sauce to the noodle. The extra charge is so worth it! Maxi's Noodle 2 definitely deserves my Yummylicious Stamp of Approval! Two thumbs up! Maxi's Noodle 2 is now my go-to spot for wontons, dumplings, beef stew, shark fin soup, dace, etc.

There is parking to be found in the surrounding residential neighborhood or the meters along Main St, but you might have to compete for spaces with patrons of other restaurants on this strip. As you enter, the big neon sign on the back wall names Maxi as 雲吞妹, Wonton Sister. I wish she were my sister making those delicious wontons! The golf-ball sized wontons are the star of the show! They are stuffed with shrimp in a delicate noodle wrapper floating in a tasty broth. The Chinese beef stew makes a great compliment to a bowl of steamy noodles with tender slices of beef flank and beef tendons (my favorite part). Noodle dishes can also be ordered Hong Kong style on a plate with broth on the side. We also get a dish of boiled vegetables with oyster sauce to round out our meal (usually baby Chinese Broccoli or choy sum). The menu has expanded since the last time we were here with new side dishes like curry fish balls and braised shiitake mushrooms that you can get over noodles or a la carte. There are even bubble teas now! If you like, you can even get a box of fried fish skin to go. Just remember that you have to bus your own table.

My friends ordered the vegetable stir fry noodles and beef stir fry noodles. The noodle orders were good and huge portions (we all ended up packing some home). The meat inside the dumpling was flavorful. I prefer thinner skins but my friends really like them. The counter person was not the owner (I think maybe he was the son) -- very helpful and patient answering all the questions posed by my friends. I forgot to take photos of the food. Too busy chatting and catching up with the girls.

Does not appear there is a server or tipping required. Ample sauces. Large menu. Noodles are actually hand pulled nr the counter I got the #2 boiled pork and leek dumplings. Rather costly at $6 for 8. After about 25 minutes I was still waiting. Staffer said it takes 10min to cook but they must have been busy. Signage is poor as it doesn't say Lao Bei Fang in English. Just says Northern Dumplings. My boiled dumplings were good. Very thick skinned. Pricing and long wait makes me ding this place.
