I needed a little pick-me-up on a weekday and decided to check this place out. I love the fact that this place has its own parking lot. Be warned that you gotta have a couple of tight turns to get here. It's on a busy intersection in San Bruno. Also, watch out for pedestrians. The menu is simple. You won't get too overwhelmed by the choices. There are a variety of different boreks--flaky pastries with various fillings like zaatar cheese, beef and herb, spinach and feta, etc. I opted for the Zaatar Cheese borek for my first time and it did not disappoint! It's flaky and delicious. The sides of a boiled egg, pickled veggies and olives complement it well and make it a filling meal. Which makes the price point worth it ($9.95). It's deli style set-up so it's pretty quick service. If you order a drink, it is more of a wait. Please be patient. The barista is working hard. The drink is worth it. The aesthetic of the specialty drink is not too fancy, but pretty. I got a pistachio matcha for this gloomy day and it warmed me right up. The flavor of the pistachio definitely came through after a couple sips versus right away. I will definitely be coming back to try more flavors of the borek. The pochas looked good as well. The drinks are decent. There is seating outside with tables now. They are small so it's only enough for two people. Inside, the interior is unique and I'm impressed on how they utilized the space. There is nowhere to sit though, you have to stand as you're waiting for your food and drink. Grab and go is the way to go here. read more

Unique offering though they have some kinks to work out. I ordered the iced pistachio matcha which is supposed to have pistachio milk, but they gave us regular whole milk and it was not sweetened. The drink ended up being a good matcha drink, but I don't feel like I needed to go out of the way to get this, especially given the higher price point. I'd be willing to try it again in case the intended recipe is better than what I got this time around. We tried a handful of food items and I think they're worth a try in case they are up your alley. I liked the egg and cheese pocha, it was very savory, and I'd recommend giving it a try. I liked the pickled side items, though I think it'd be good if they had other options for folks who are not fans of pickled items. It'd be good if they have an app where you can pre-order for easy pickup given the limited parking and dine in options. There's chairs outside, but no tables. Then there's a tall table inside, but no chairs. Currently there is no option of both tables AND chairs. read more

Zorek used to be one of my absolute favorite spots in San Bruno. When they first opened, their börek was amazing especially with the pickled radish. It was flavorful, comforting, and honestly better than any other version I've had elsewhere. Over the past few months, though, they changed their menu and now primarily serve manakeesh. The manakeesh is good, and I do enjoy that it comes with fresh veggies and a boiled egg it's fresh, filling, and well done. But for me, it just doesn't compare to the börek they originally had. When they first switched the menu, I was told the change was seasonal and that the börek would eventually return. I kept coming back hoping to see it again, but during my most recent visit, the guy at the register told me it likely won't be coming back which honestly made me pretty sad. Their drinks are consistently great. The pistachio matcha is delicious, and their coffees never disappoint. The space is always clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is clearly fresh. That said, I live about 30 minutes away, and without the börek, I probably won't go out of my way to come here anymore. If I'm already in San Bruno, I'll happily stop by for a drink or a manakeesh but the börek was the thing that truly made it worth the drive for me. I genuinely hope they bring the börek back someday, because what they had was something special. There are other bakeries that sell börek, but none of them come close to how good Zorek's used to be. Still, I recommend checking this place out -- it's a lovely café with great drinks, fresh food, and welcoming service. I just miss the original magic. read more

Very cute place, Seating only outside which is a bit of a bummer on a cold day. Standing room inside which is good but didnt work for us because we had a toddler in tow. Would come back on a warmer day. We came around noon and they were sold out of the Armenian Sujuk (which means come early to try because it's popular). We got the Zatar manakeesh, cardamom latte and the protein bagel. The manakeesh flavors were good but quite salty. Difficult to eat. The bagel filling of - scrambled eggs, tomato, lettuce was very good. I imagine if the sujuk had been included, it would be amazing. The coffee was pleasant, strong cardamom and cinnamon which was great. What was a bit annoying was that they were out of the sujuk which is part of the protein bagel offering but didn't think to proactively tell us until we asked about it. There was no offer to discount the price or substitute with something else to make up for charging us full price, even though a main component was not going to be there. There was also no greeting, no hi nothing when we walked in...we kind of stood there for a few minutes when we entered trying to figure out who was a patron vs staff. I'm not sure why that happened but it was a minor awkward moment. read more

My partner and I were super excited to finally try Zorek after seeing all the hype. However, we were super disappointed by the overpriced subpar drinks. I had gotten the matcha pistachio and my partner got the pistachio latte. Upon receiving the drinks, they looked really sad and disappointing. You're getting a small drink with a small dollop of cream and a small drizzle of pistachio sauce for $8... The drinks were nothing that wowed us either. The matcha was very grainy and clumpy, I suspect that the matcha isn't very high quality. I have had better matcha elsewhere in the Bay for the same if not cheaper price point. The latte was alright, nothing special to write about but for the price and size, you are better off getting your coffee somewhere else. There was really not much pistachio flavor in either drink, the pistachio drizzle clumps and sinks to the bottom in an iced drink. We would only return again to possibly give their pastries a try but we wouldn't spend our money on their drinks again. I don't think we can justify that steep expensive price point for the quality and size. read more

Visited on a Saturday around 12:30pm, it was pretty busy with many dining or waiting for their food and drink but no wait to order. Space is pretty small inside, there is a counter where you can eat with enough space for 4-5 people. Outside there is a small patio and a few chairs and benches but pretty limited. Food: Wild Mushroom Borek - good portion size maybe 6-8 pieces of pastry, served nice and hot, with a side of pickled cabbage, pickles, cucumber, tomatoes, olives and a hard boiled egg, pastry was filled with a decent amount of mushrooms, wish this was seasoned a bit more, had lots of layers but was a little soggy could have been more crisp and crunchy, loved the pickled red cabbage and all the accompaniments which really made this more of a complete meal Service was good, friendly quick and efficient. Staff seemed to have great recommendations. Overall enjoyed trying Zorek, wish pastry were a bit crisper, would come back to try some of the other dishes and drinks. Pricing wise I think they've taken feedback and on my visit pastries were around $12. Drinks are on the pricey side but pretty inline with other upscale cafes. read more

We got the meat manakish and labneh wrap, both came out freshly made from scratch. Dough was made in front of us. This is top shelf quality talking. I ate my labneh wrap so quick. The latte is good but the flavors are too much for me. The basic will do but this new generation always asking for the same stuff with a different name. I got it delivered last time to foster city and it wasn't as good fresh, obviously because this is a fresh ingredient spot. I highly recommend eating this asap. Wish they had more locations. Mazra, like Rihanna, would rather dabble in other business ventures than give us what we really want -- for Mazra to finally open back up in San Bruno & for Rihanna to finally release new music. While we await Mazra's reopening, they've given us Zorek in the meantime, a cafe serving coffee drinks & borek, flakey parties with either sweet or savory filling. We visited during opening week & ordered two kinds of savory borek, $12 each. Served with pickles, veggies, & hard-boiled egg, these accompaniments served to both bulk up the meal & to cut through the buttery rich pastry. Za'atar Cheese had a nice tang, & although Beef + Herbs didn't have a heaping portion of meat, it didn't need it. The side of mystery purple condiment (pickled cabbage & onions, I believe?) was refreshing & gave the borek added flavor. Sweet Pistachio ($10), Zorek's dessert borek, is filled with caramelized banana, crushed pistachio, & melted chocolate. So indulgent, one or two pieces will do ya just fine. Their San Bruno Sunset ($6), a saffron-infused iced mint tea & lemonade, is sufficiently sweet with a hint of floral. Warm, welcoming service. No indoor seating. This is my new favorite coffee shop. The pistachio matcha is out of this world, different. I'm very much convinced that this can taste like the Dubai chocolate if you drizzle chocolate syrup. Ordered: 2 oat milk pistachio matcha lattes - delicious and not too sweet with bits of crushed pistachios 1 whole milk pistachio latte- another delicious drink 1 oat milk raspberry rose matcha latte- loved the blend but flavors! While you can taste the taste of rose, matcha, and raspberry, not one item was overpowering and the balance was very pleasing! Mushroom borek- flavorful mushroom in a flaky pastry. This came with a seasoned boiled egg, sliver of pickle, slice of cucumber, tomatoes, and sauce. The borek portion is good enough to share (at least for me). Great deal for 9.95 before tax & tip.
