1 Star - Completely Frustrating First Experience This was my first time visiting and unfortunately it was a terrible experience from start to finish. The service immediately felt off. We were not greeted warmly and the man (manager) working the register came across as completely disengaged and rude. There was no hospitality, no friendliness, and no effort to make new customers feel welcome. We ordered something very simple: an egg, cheese, and mushroom breakfast croissant. Instead, the order came out on a bagel. When we brought it to the manager's attention, he didn't apologize or take accountability. He simply told the cook to remake it --but didn't explain what the mistake actually was, which led to even more problems. I would be VERY cautious ordering here if you have food restrictions. While the breakfast croissant was being remade, the cook started adding meat. We are vegetarian and never ordered meat, and the only reason we caught it was because we happened to be watching the food being prepared. We had to stop the cook mid-preparation to clarify that we do not eat meat. At that point, it would have been helpful for the manager to step in and clearly communicate the order to the cook, especially since there was an obvious communication gap. Instead, there was NO involvement or effort to resolve the issue whatsoever. After all of that... the sandwich still came out wrong. The croissant had lettuce and tomatoes added...which we also never asked for. :( To make matters worse, we ordered a pistachio latte and were given a weak matcha drink with almost no flavor at all. The final bill? $40 for two mediocre drinks, an ube croissant, and one incorrectly made breakfast sandwich. I've heard that the women who usually work the register are very kind and welcoming, but unfortunately that was not the experience we had at all. Overall this was a very disappointing first visit. Between the poor service, lack of communication, incorrect food, and high price, I would not return. read more

I've been driving by this place and I couldn't figure out what it was. Today I said to myself, "it looks like a café and I need a coffee" and im glade I did. I grabbed myself a coffee and some sort of cheese bread pastry. I didn't think too much of it, until I was in my truck and opened the box. Not only was my cheese bread in there, but delicious side of egg, cucumber and oranges! Also, once you get your food, there's a counter against the window you can stand and eat, or you can grab one of the tables outside. Needless to say, when I got home, it was destroyed immediately by my girlfriend and I. I'm definitely gonna swing by again. I hope these guys get a sign soon, because you can't tell what the place is or tell if they're open. But if you're in the area, definitely swing by and check them out. Only thing I wasn't crazy about, was the size of my large coffee. Hopefully they'll get a bigger size for their large, but if not, it's really not a big deal. read more

I see a lot of people at this place and that's a clear sign it has to be good! Finally had the chance to try them out. There is a small lot in front with only one way in and out, but there is also street parking in the back. There is a cute flower truck outside selling plants and flowers, and a few tables for outdoor dining. There is bar seating indoors but most people get their food and drinks to go. Employees were nice and patient with us. We ordered the pistachio matcha and the raspberry rose latte with oat milk, and the kaymak jam pastry. They have the usual coffee, tea and regular pastries but we went for the specialty items. Presentation was beautiful. The best part? The flavors! I've never had a pistachio matcha before and this was delicious. I loved that it wasn't sweet, and I appreciated the texture of the bits of pistachio in there. It's a balance of smooth, nutty, creamy and ends with a slight bitter finish. It was luscious. The raspberry rose latte was a pleasant surprise, too. At first you taste the coffee which is smooth and not too strong, then you get a hint of raspberry and at the end you get the taste of rose. It was a delightful sip of flavors. Both drinks were delectable! The pastry was flaky, filled with cream and jam with a sprinkle of orange zest. Again, they do so well with balancing flavors. It was all very tasty. First visit here. Won't be the last! I ordered the pistachio latte over ice. Maybe I should have gotten it hot instead or even the pistachio matcha because the pistachio latte was so meh to me. I will say the pastries were yummy! Ube twice baked croissant was impressive. Spinach and feta borek was freakin delicious and something I will be thinking about for awhile. The feta was not overpowering which is what made it phenomenal. I'm not entirely sure if borek is supposed to be served warm but it was given to me cold. I would love to try it warm! Man, even freshly baked would be a dream. You get some pickled veg and a hard boiled egg on the side with the borek. Super filling. Looking forward to visiting again in the future! read more

I first heard about this place when it was featured on Channel 2 zip trips over the summer. I was so excited to try it since it was local and only a few blocks from my house. I went there the day after the segment aired and I loved it! I was totally hooked on the beef borek. I had since returned several times and tried the Turkish cheese borek as well as the jam and kaymak version. Having been to Turkey several times, I loved kaymak, which is the Turkish version of clotted cream. I've even introduced a couple of friends to Zorek, who both loved the concept and the tasty offerings and variety of borek. However, I went there today and was disappointed that they are no longer making borek! Apparently, they've changed from their summer menu and are now making manakeesh, which is a flatbread similar to pizza. I was disappointed, but I ordered the beef and herb one, hoping it would be somewhat similar to the taste of the borek. Not good! Even though it was freshly baked, it was lukewarm at best and the beef had a sweet taste to it. Actually, it was pretty horrible. I understand changing the menu due to the seasons, but isn't there room for both boreks and manakeesh?!? It's also overpriced at $12 for less than stellar flatbread. At least with the borek, it was $10 and one serving was pretty abundant. And don't even get me started on the coffee drinks! Way overpriced at $7. So don't waste your time coming to Zorek. It is now crossed off my list. read more

This amazing cafe is owned by the folks that own Mazra restaurants. The pistachio matcha latte is so good. Enjoy it iced for a refreshing drink on a hot day or a hot beverage for a cozy treat on a cold day. They used to hand whisk the matcha upon ordering but I think that they had to streamline the process to lessen the waiting time. The matcha is still great quality and delish even though they pre whisk it beforehand now. I haven't tried everything yet but I'm slowly working my way through the menu. So far this is what I've had along with my ratings on each Kaymak and jam pastry - 8/10 This is an indulgent pastry. Flaky crust with sweet jam (I think apricot?) and kaymak which is a cream filling. The sweetness of the jam balances out with the cream as it's not too sweet. There's also slight freshness from the lemon or orange peels. Bagel with Smoked Salmon and Labneh - 10/10 This is delicious. I got this from a recommendation by the cashier and glad I listened. It was my first time trying labneh which is like a Mediterranean yogurt cheese similar to cream cheese. It comes with cucumber & capers in the freshly toasted bagel and a hard boiled egg, pickles and olives on the side. The bagel texture is perfectly crisp and light. I had this two days in a row and I might make it three! Mushroom Borek- 8/10 This was a light pastry with mushroom inside. It is good if you like mushrooms but they have other options for borek as well. Staff are nice here and service is pretty fast. There's always a nice breeze coming through the front and side doors. As a big fan of Mazra, I was really excited to see another concept of theirs open nearby while I wait for their San Bruno location to undergo renovations. I had been eying this spot for sometime specifically to try their pistachio drinks. I love that pistachio is quickly gaining popularity as a flavor to order at cafes so was pleased to see they offered both a pistachio latte and a pistachio matcha. I ended up ordering a pistachio latte w oat milk and of course a borek since that was what they were known for. I took the recommendation of the cashier and got a beef borek. My total was something around $19/$20, $7 for the drink + $0.50 cent alt milk then $9.95 for the borek. IMO pretty expensive for a latte and a pastry but probably in line with most cafe prices nowadays. The latte, while good, was a little underwhelming. Presentation wise it looked really promising though! It tasted fine as a regular latte but I couldn't really distinguish a pistachio taste. I could only taste it a little as I finished off my ice and had the chunks of foam and pistachio that fell down there but otherwise there wasn't a prominent pistachio flavor present. Maybe it's still something they're working out but may come back and give it another try. The borek ended up being a last minute decision but this one was actually very good. The beef borek came in about 5-6 pieces and had a side medley of cucumber, pickle, olives, tomatoes and a soft boiled egg. Also came with a sauce... which idk what it was, but dipping all that into said sauce was pretty tasty. The borek was crispy and had a decent amount of filling in it. All in all, a welcomed addition to San Bruno. Always exciting to see new businesses in the area! read more

I've ordered this place a few times now. SO GOOD! The pistachio latte is delicious hot or iced. I tried the Za'atar and cheese borek, and absolutely love how they turn the pickled turnips into a dipping sauce. It's the perfect combo of flavors, and the side is loaded with a boiled egg, pickle, and a few other fresh veggies with za'atar sprinkled ontop. We just came here about an hour ago and ordered a Pistachio Latte (I wanted the Pistachio Matcha but they ran out of matcha), Beef & Herbs Borek, and Kaymak & Jam Pocha. The Borek was flaky but so soft and warm; the Pocha was sweet and delicious. It was my 2nd time trying a Pistachio latte and this location was by far much better than the first time I've tried in a different shop. I really want to try their matcha so I'll have to come back next time. They don't really have a place to dine except for a tall table where you stand and eat; there are chairs outside but no tables. The entire shop is quite small but I really love the plants and greenery. They have a mini retail shelf by one of the entrances as well. Super cute and will come back. read more

Decided to check out this cafe. I saw that the matcha looked decent via Yelp pictures. Ordered the Pistachio Matcha (iced). Gave it a swirl and a sip, verdict? Too much milk in the drink and an over powering of the pistachio. I'm a matcha gal but this drink, you cannot taste the matcha. People appeared nice at the cafe. Very small. Outdoor seating. Absolutely unacceptable service. I came to pick up an order I had placed over an hour earlier and it still was not ready. I was completely ignored from the moment I walked in. No one asked what I needed, no one acknowledged me, nothing. While I stood there waiting, every female customer who arrived after me was immediately greeted, helped, and handed their food. This was not a coincidence. The service was clearly biased and unprofessional. Yes, the food may taste good, but the atmosphere feels less like a restaurant and more like a place where staff flirt instead of doing their jobs. My first visit was 2 weeks ago and living a few blocks away I've been itching for a visit. I ordered the pistachio latte and it wasn't anything special or something I would try again or recommend. The whip cream tastes like it's from a can (not a fan), Coffee is on the acidic side and it was a bit watered down. I came around 8:20am, wasn't busy and it was done in about 2 minutes so no complaints on the wait time but for the price range & lack of flavor and balance not worth it. Came by during my lunch as I drove by here on elcamino and you wouldn't have known it was here! It's right across the street from a shell gas station and April 1st was the opening day. I had a bakery item (banana and carrot muffin) and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was! I wish I took a photo before I ate it but I was a bit busy and had to rush back to work. I've been there a few times now just for the pistachio latte because it is absolutely AMAZING!! I liked the cold one better than the hot because the cream holds well and the pistachio cream kind doesn't dissolve with the coffee. I've also tried their Borek- the flaky pastry with some filling. It was fresh and nice. The cafe is really cute but I always get a takeaway so I haven't spent time inside except for waiting for my order of course. This little ray of light that just popped up on the corner of El Camino and San Bruno Avenue has made two of my mornings brighter. The customer service was exceptional and the cafe has a trendy vibe to it. My first trip I tried a hot pistachio latte, the Kaymak and Jam, and the Zaatar and Cheese with egg. I know this sounds crazy but the ingredients in these dishes are so bright. I felt like the entire experience was waking me up for my morning and not just the Latte. This morning I had the iced version of the Pistachio Latte which is Iced coffee drinks are my go-to and it did not disappoint. The creamy pistachio beverage will be my new treat to myself everytime I decide to visit. Now what I was not expecting, was to have my favorite item not be the coffee. I just tried the Wild Shroom Börek and it quite literally gave me life this morning. I'm not a vegetarian but if I was, this is what I would be having everyday. Overall I was really happy with the customer service and quality of food. This place doesn't have a lot of seating but that's not what I was really looking for so I'm not going to let it affect my review. I had to try this place because I love Mazra so much and when I found out that the same owners opened a coffee shop, there was no question about trying it out. Made an unplanned stop here and so glad I did! The pistachio matche latte was immaculate, soo flavorful and creamy. The perfect level of a hint of sweetness. It's made with pistachio milk so the pistachio flavor is strong enough to fully savor. I also tried the wild shroom borek and it tasted home made like it came straight out of my auntie's oven. The presentation was beautiful with the soft boiled eggs, pickles, olives, and herbs and spices all adding freshness and flavor to the meal. The people who work there are so nice and take a lot a pride in the presentation of their drinks and food. They have a unique selection of beverages-my favorite is the masala chai, my husband prefers the pistachio latte, and my son the cardamom matcha latte, served cold. We have had the special bagel with lox and enjoyed it. One time, it was served on a toasted croissant (which I actually liked even better). I have also had the flat bread-I found the ground beef one a bit too sweet for my taste, but the one with muhammara and cheese was wonderful.
