My wife doesn't often feel at ease while out and about following Chemotherapy treatments. She wanted to sit outside at this cafe, Zorba's; to eat lunch, & enjoy the birds flittering about. Also the view of miniature cherry trees. They made her feel like a queen. We went inside they didn't mind that it took us some time to look over the menu. We ordered, they brought lunch to us outside. I had a Gyro and she, kabobs which having had a bite were juicy & delicious. We don't normally like feta but the slightest amount on her Salad was crisp & yummy. They checked on us, if anything else was needed,but we were enjoying our 'date'. The Flowering shrubs and trees added to the atmosphere. Inside restaurant is large and expansive. We Were able to sanitize our hands at a station near the counter. Everyone was masked and noticed it to be a very gleaming facility. We forgot the Baklava which looked amazing but will make a return trip next time we are in DC. The nondescript building offers a cozy and fresh environment, with lit candles at each table to add to the ambiance. The staff was friendly, but the highlight was the meal and the large portions! Went to Zorba's for a dinner and I am glad I stopped. The atmosphere was great, weather perfect for outside seating. I had walked by the place a few times and didn't realize that you go inside and order from the menu and then select your seat. I had the veggie wrap which was alright. The veggies were fresh but their was so much juice/dressing that it got everywhere while I was eating it. My mom had the Gyro which she said was not what she expected and was very good. Zorba's Cafe is the type of place that I never even notice exists when the temperature is below 75. Once that barrier is breached, outdoor eating at Zorba's becomes perfect. Even though I haven't had much Greek food in the D.C. area, this is the place that I would chose. I'm sure others have their favorites and pick places over Zorba's, but I love their falafel salad, Chicken Gyro Plate, Combination plate, pizza, all of it. The carafes of wine are great for sharing, or if you are feeling hardcore, good for just you. Either way, Zorba's seems to just have that relaxed feeling - maybe its the fact that you dont have to wait on a server, its all order and find a table. Order the appetizer sampler platter - it's not on the menu, but there's a flier about it above the counter where you order. You'll get a sampling of each of their dips, grape leaves, tabouli and pita bread. I found it to be a great way to taste everything to see what I liked. Simple neighborhood type place; big dining room with lots of seating inside and outside. Kinda got the impression while we were looking at the menu at the counter that if we ordered wrong we'd get a "No soup for you!" sort of ousting, but the staff was much more ambivalent to us. I'm fortunate that I work pretty close to Zorba's and that a coworker recommended it to me - although it was always one of those places I'd walk past and mean to try but forget to, until today. As a preface, I usually don't call anything in DC cheap period because even in California food is cheaper and sales tax is ridiculous here; having said that, the prices at Zorba's were pretty good and just a sandwich will fill you up. I had the yero (gyro) sandwich and it was pretty good for about $7 after tax. Everything tasted right; my only bone to pick is that it was a little small and it took a little bit after lunch for that feeling of fullness to sink in. For some people it'll be the perfect portion; for others, you might consider ordering the platter (I probably will next time) with fries. Plenty (no joke) of seats upstairs, downstairs and outside. One of the best cheap eateries in the District -- a great place to sit outside on a sunny day with a combo platter and a beer. I don't experiment much with the Zorba's menu, so I can't offer too many thoughts. But the souvlaki and gyro sandwiches are tasty and a good value (get the platters), the pizzas are fresh and not too heavy, and the salads are a good choice, too (though admittedly it is hard to mess up a salad). I wasn't all too impressed with the cramped space, the fast food vibe, and the proportion sizes of the food initally, but the taste of everything on my plate exceeded my expectations. Good location just outside the Dupont Circle Q street exit. Plus there's ample outdoor seating on nice days. And it's cheap and fast. I enjoy their "fire feta" dish, which consists of pretty good warm pita wedges and a dip mix of feta and red peppers. Not superhot but it has a nice kick. Both my husband and I really like it. Very close to Dupont Circle, Back after 13 years. It was one of my favorite restaurants in DC. Original greek recipes, dim ambiance for dinner. Great options for vegeterians, most of entrees come with Greek salad, give a chance for dessert too. Musaka, fasulaki(green bean) was nice, chicken souvlaki was delicious lemon marinated. This is a great little place to grab a quick and fairly cheap meal! I've dined here a few times and I've never been disappointed; the ingredients are always very fresh and the sauces are flavorful and delicious! I love the appetizer plate and I've eaten that as a meal myself. The veggie platter is a great choice if you want to try several things and it's fairly large so you could share this as an appetizer plate. It's neither the fanciest nor the best Greek food you'll ever have; but, it is a great and seemingly reasonably priced place. I've had the traditional gyro each time I've gone and its been very good without fail. My biggest complaint is that every time I have eaten there, flies have hovered around the area in which they keep the water for customers. Zorba's is hands down my favorite restaurant in DC! Not in a luxurious, one of a kind experience type of way, but in a "favorite neighborhood spot where we go a few times a month" type of place. The food is great (authentic greek from family recipes!), but even better are the people there. Since we've gone so much over the years, we're friendly with the folks there, which enhances the experience every time. The patio is wonderful on a nice evening, and the upstairs dining area is cozy in the bad weather. We've never had a bad time at Zorba's, and bet you won't either! I got the gyro and, contrary to some other opinions, thought it was plenty of tasty, savory food. I am lowering my rating by one star because I realized the food is a little pricey upon my second visit. Nearly $8 for one gyro and no sides is a lot. Although it is enough food to fill you up. The meat was moist and delicious and the gryo fillings (feta, sauce, lettuce, and tomato) were great. I also shared a large serving of hommus with a friend and was completely stuffed when I left. An FYI: My friend who got the platter, which comes with fries and a salad, thought it was too much food. You do pick up your own food, but Zorba's buses the tables. Pretty decent Greek food. The lamb on my gyro was thick, but perhaps a wee bit dry, with a lovely soft pita and fresh taziki. I was a little puzzled as my gyro came sans lettuce and tomato, while everyone else in my group had some on theirs, but not a huge deal. Salad was pretty good, although they could definitely up the feta, olive, and tomato department. House wine was like $4 a glass, which you know I couldn't say no to. Even though it was chilly, my friends and I were discouraged by the limiting seating inside and instead opted to sit outside next to the heaters, which turned out to not too bad. They BLARE Greek music over the loudspeakers though, so be prepared to feel really bad for the apartments above this place. Went to Zorba's on Sunday afternoon after walking around Georgetown and looking for something light and filling in the mid-afternoon. I ordered a salad with falafal, which for those who know me would be odd, given that I'm usually a big carnivore. Nonetheless, I was coming back from yoga and thought I'd be all healthy or whatnot (or...as healthy as one can be eating fried falafal). Anyway, the set-up is different than I expected--you order at the counter and then wait for your number to be called over the loudspeaker. I like it casual (making it a great lunch or after-work-dinner spot), but the loudspeaker wasn't great. I feel like they should take a page out of Nando's book and put table #s on your table, and have 'waiters' bring you food. Less disruptive, less cafeteria-style. Anyway, the food was good! No complaints about my salad, and the falafal was very, very tasty! It even came with a side of hummus, which I appreciated (though pita is an extra 50 cents? Hmm...). My only thing is that it was a little pricier than I thought it should have been, given the set-up. I ended up spending about $16 on a salad + pita + a soda, which I think is one or two dollars more than it should have been. Maybe if that included wait service, but for me to get up and pick my own stuff up? Think about lowering your prices. I'll probably be back for a laid-back dinner or weekend lunch, but not going out of my way for it. I'd recommend it for those in the mood for Greek food, though. Solid choice. read more

I've eaten at Zorba's a few times. I guess I just never got around to reviewing them. I do have to say that I appreciate their food and just how affordable it is for DC. $15 will get you a decent size meal and drink. The meat is tender and juicy, except for the kefteh (beef), which is made to be crispy. If you drink, they have beer on tap. I do also appreciate that they have gluten free bread options. The one thing I note is just how salty their food is. My word! My last visit, I ordered the combination platter (chicken and kefteh), and I was dying of thirst for hours after I left. I mean, I had to stop by a grocery store and pick up a big bottle of coconut water and Deer Park just to counter the sodium overload. All in all, not a bad cheap eatery. It's rough trying to find greek food (other than spanakopita or tiropita) when you're a vegetarian - so I'm particularly glad that I wandered into Zorba's. Yum! An easy walk from the Q st. exit of the Dupont metro station, Zorba's is a casual place with lovely indoor and outdoor seating. While it looks small at first, don't forget that you can sit upstairs. Walk in the front door and keep going straight, down a few stairs, and order at the counter. Then walk around the counter and wait for your food to come out on a tray. Take it to any table you like, and leave your mess because they prefer to clean the table for you. I enjoyed the vegetarian special, which was an eggplant dish, the day I was there. Their vegetarian section isn't huge, but there are half a dozen or so options plus a rotating daily special. My friend had a meat dish (I have no idea what) and also enjoyed it. We did try the spinach and feta appetizer dip with pita chips and it was only so-so. I returned again for desert and had the rice pudding while my friend had the custard pie. Both were fantastic! Bathrooms are clean and fine - but be aware that ordering and potties both require that you can take some stairs. Not for folks on wheels, unfortunately. On the plus side, if you're not on wheels then you can order until 11pm. read more

A little expensive but you get what you pay for which is a lot of food! I got the yero plate which comes with a side salad (yum), fries (yum), and a yero with LOTS OF MEAT. I had to eat some of the meat first before I could actually pick up the bread and eat it like an actual yero (usually spelled gyro, I know). It was a bit on the salty side... but pair your meal with a Luengling beer and it's perfect. Joe got the combo plate which came with lots of meat, hummus, pita bread, dolmas, tzaki sauce, everything Greek you can pretty much think of haha. I'll admit that I was pretty hungry after 11 miles on the bike to watch the World Cup match in dupont circle. I wanted a quick something to take into the park and eat. A gyro seemed like a good choice. Maybe this was much better meat and fresher everything than you get at (say) the county fair or other street cart vendors who sell gyro, but somehow this seemed small and just ok--$11 and change for the sandwich and a coke...that's a lot considering and so more should be expected. My guess is that the sit down, larger more authentic Greek dishes are a better value and more worthy of their price. But if this had been at the fair no one would be buying, ya know? You order at the counter and then take your food to a seat. Definitely a hole in the wall, but worth it. The food and drink is well priced and the venue has a more genuine Greek feel than other places in the city. It almost has a mom & pop feel to it actually. Would reccomend any time of day. Once we picked up the trays carrying our meals we sat inside. I ordered the vegetarian plate. It was large enough to share. My plate consisted of spanakópitta (a very large piece), fasolia, falafel (the highlight!) and pocket pitta bread, served with Greek salad, two dolmathakia (these were just ok), with a side of hommus (very yummy) & tzatziki (meh). The Spanakópitta was tasty but lacked that strong feta taste that is typical of this dish. The falafel were perfect. The dolmathakia needed more lemon and evoo. The hommus was smooth and nicely seasoned. The tzatziki was runny. I didn't really care for it. Overall, this place was good. More Americanized, flavor-wise, in comparison to other Greek restaurants I've visited in my lifetime. Not like greek food in Chicago but I would visit again if I am ever back in DC. I love this place. I've been coming to Zorbas since the 1980s. This is a great Greek food specialty place, staffed by real Greek people. Atmosphere is casual, the food is very, very tasty and affordable. The staff is friendly and ambience is kind of order and serve yourself.
