Zippy's McCully the original one opened its doors October 17, 1966 Sixty Years in business and still going strong . We meet with some friends for breakfast. Our server Janice did an awesome job. She was fast, friendly, and very efficient. One of the few who take the time to ask for and input your Zipster rewards number . Love the renovations. We ordered the Vegetable Omelette, Portuguese Sausage and Eggs, and the Club Sandwich . Everything was prepared fresh and served hot. Coffee was hot and fresh.

Korean fried chicken and two mac salad scoops
Stephanie V.

Service was fast and friendly. I always get Korean fried chicken with double mac instead of a scoop of rice plus macaroni salad. The KFC takes a little bit to be ready but I'd rather wait a bit and get fresh, hot chicken. My chicken was great. Fresh, crispy, hot, and plenty of sauce. Mac salad is zingy and the perfect amount of saltiness. Plenty of tables to sit at and eat your food. I think I got plenty of chicken in my order and it tasted great. I would definitely come back to this location again. Even though it's not the closest one to me, I like it a little better than the one on Kapahulu.

Zippy's is by far my favorite fast food place! Plenty of local food options and the bakery is simply amazing! Some of the best pastries, pies, and desserts I've ever had. Zippys is my favorite Korean fried chicken spot. My go to order is the Korean fried chicken plate with a Lilikoi juice and apple napple. Classic local spot everyone should try. Servers at this location were kind and the ambience is like a diner. Not the cleanest but nothing too bothering.

Zip pac

If you're not familiar, Zippys is Hawaiis answer to fast casual comfort food, somewhere between a fast food and a diner experience. They have an extensive menu with several hawaiin classics and is open late which makes it a perfect post-drink meal. I got the ZipPac which is a rice plate that comes with a piece of fried fish, fried chicken, teriyaki beef, and a slice of spam. Absolutely phenomenal. My only complaint was the wait time-the food took quite a while to come out. I also ordered the saimin (basically like cup noodles), but after about 30 minutes, I ended up asking them to cancel it. That said, the manager and servers were really apologetic and friendly about it, and they even offered to comp it, which I appreciated.

Pork Cutlet. Order something else
GLENN F.

The worst Pork Cutlet I've ever had. It was tough and chewy, most of it all stuck between my teeth! No joke. How can A fine establishment like Zippy's even buy such a low quality pork? Ridiculous. $16.65!

This was my first time ever trying Zippy's, and I seriously wish I had discovered it sooner! This location isn't in a busy tourist area like Waikiki, so we had no trouble getting a table, and there was plenty of parking available. The service was a bit slow at first, we waited at the door for almost 10 minutes before being acknowledged. Once our server arrived, she was super sweet and attentive. The menu has plenty of Hawaiian classics, like loco moco, but we decided to try something a bit more hearty. We ordered the Chicken Trio to share, and it was definitely a hefty portion. The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy, and the Korean fried chicken had a sweet glaze that I actually loved, even though I'm not usually a fan of sweet flavors. The fried chicken really stole the show. Crispy, juicy, and with the perfect breading. I was craving it for days after we left! It also comes with a mac salad and two scoops of rice. The rice was a bit mushy but overall still enjoyed our plate. Recommend 10/10!!!

After a long flight from LA, the first stop is zippys for some good old Hawaiian food lol We got the loco moco, chicken katsu and the kids spaghetti! I feel like the loco moco's patty could've been a little better, but it might be a personal preference. The chicken katsu was bomb! The chicken was moist and crunchy. The service was spectacular, from when we came in we were warmly welcomed and the service throughout our meal was very friendly. Definitely a staple part of our Hawaii experience!

Korean fried tofu platter with Mac salad
Andrea M.

This review is specifically for the lent special, Korean fried tofu platter. It is so good, I look forward to it every year, please make it year round. Your current tofu burger is ok, but this special Lent platter is 10/10 and would expand the fast food vegetarian options.

Korean Fried Chicken and Chili Mixed Plate

Good comfort food that makes you feel like home. My go-to is usually the Fried Chicken plate (winners!) but this last visit, we got a clubhouse sandwich and the Korean chicken/chili mixed plate. We like to come to this one because it has the dining side and not just takeout. It's a good stop for late night food! Service is always good and the servers are friendly. Last night there were only 2 workers but they managed the crowded restaurant well! Still very attentive despite being busy.

Spaghetti with chili
Mikey H.

It was late. I just left Anna O'Brian's and I needed to eat. One of my friends told me about the July special so I went to get it: regular spaghetti with garlic bread and you get a mini for free. That spaghetti hit the spot! And I saved the mini for breakfast on the day I left! This really is a great special so take advantage of it because it is only for July! Mahalo Zippy's!

Zip Pac Deluxe

First stop Zippy's!! I love Zippy's with all my heart and my go to will always be the chili chicken plate you just can't beat it-Zippy's has a bucket of chili for a reason! Just too good! For someone whose never tried Zippy's before, def consider opting for zip pac deluxe-has a little bit of everything- spam, Teri beef, fried fish, Mac salad, rice, and of course the chili and chicken! The best! My partner who never had Zippy's before said it was his favorite thing he ate in Hawaii!! side note though the bathrooms here (at the time we visited) was gross so maybe go bathroom somewhere else if you need to go...

Fried Noodle Platter
Anthony N.

This place is nostalgic to me and i loved every moment of it. The food tasted almost as when i first had it, but it has gone slightly down. I really enjoyed the fried chicken doe. My mom has been hounding me to get her the same chicken as we had back then, when she finaly got it, she was so satisfied.

His name is Oscar,
Christopher K.

His name is Oscar, idk if he was having a bad day or something but he was by far the worst zippys employee I have ever dealt with, he was very rude, body language like he didn't want to be there, sighing when we'd ask a question or anything. Constantly yawning, threw our receipt at us. Just overall a bad experience. No aloha at all

The highlight of our Hawaii trip! We loved Ginza Bairin so much that we went TWICE during our trip…read more We visited on our previous trip to Hawaii, and it was an absolute must-revisit this time around. If you're visiting Honolulu and love Japanese tonkatsu, do yourself a favor and put this place on your list! The absolute star of the show is the Specialty Kurobuta Pork Loin Katsu. Out of this world! Kurobuta pork is basically the Waygu of the pork world. This pork comes from the Berkshire pig which produces more flavorful, more tender pork. The pork is perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and coated in a beautifully crispy breading. Every bite is exactly what you want from a great tonkatsu. And PLEASE, don't sleep on the unlimited refills of cabbage, miso soup, and rice! The rice deserves its own shoutout. Ginza Bairin serves premium Tsuyahime white rice from Yamagata, Japan, and it is hands down the best rice I've ever had. The grains are plump, fluffy, and delicious, with that wonderful texture that makes you keep reaching for another bowl. Shamelessly admitting that I ate THREE bowls of rice, and I have absolutely zero regrets. My husband doesn't eat pork or beef, so he ordered the chicken katsu and said it was the best chicken katsu he's ever had. That's a pretty impressive endorsement, especially from someone who eats chicken katsu regularly. Families with little ones, this place is fantastic! They're incredibly kid-friendly, with child-sized cups, forks, spoons, and plates. Even better, the kids' meals come in the cutest little blue or pink car-shaped trays that my son absolutely loved. You can choose chicken katsu or shrimp tempura, served with rice, cabbage salad, macaroni salad, and a kids' juice box. It's thoughtful touches like these that make dining out with a toddler so much more enjoyable. The service was amazing, too. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making the whole experience even better. A few helpful tips: - Make a reservation ahead of time if you can, but walk-ins are welcome, too. - There are two "restaurants": the main dining room primarily accommodates reservations, while the other side is mainly for walk-ins. Don't worry, the food is impeccable on both sides! - Free validated parking for up to 1.5 hours is available at the Bank of Hawaii Waikiki Business Center underground garage, which is a huge plus in Waikiki. Ginza Bairin checks all the boxes: exceptional food, premium ingredients, generous refills, warm service, and a genuinely family-friendly atmosphere. The fact that we went twice in one trip says everything. This is one of those restaurants that stays on your must-visit list every time you return to Hawaii. Already dreaming about that pork katsu and another three bowls of rice!

They only have about 20 orders available daily, so we always make sure to make early reservations for dinner. It's a small place, so seating can be limited, and although they do take walk ins, you really should make a reservation. Free validated parking is available next door in the parking garage beneath the Bank of Hawaii building. I really like how light and crispy their tonkatsu is here. And the Kurobota katsu just melts in your mouth! If they don't have that available their Bairin Pork Tenderloin Katsu is always excellent too! My girlfriend also likes their Katsu-Dons. Sets come with free refills of rice, miso soup, cabbage, and pickles. Last night they also had several new wagyu additions to the menu that we haven't seen before, along with a wagyu beef nigiri that we had to try and thoroughly enjoyed. Service here is fast and very friendly! We have always enjoyed coming here and the staff take great care of their customers. They also offer a Kamaaina discount for locals with a Hawaii ID, which is really fantastic for people like us who live here and enjoy this place!

I called to make reservations after work at 5:30 PM and the host was great, she let me know that parking is free for 2-hours at the Bank of Hawaii building with validation, and that they are still working on their liquor license so its BYOB with a $10 corkage fee per person drinking in the party. From the street front, its kind of hard to tell where the restaurant is. I didn't notice the sign until standing literally right in front of it. (on Beachwalk, makai of Hard Rock) When you enter, theres a sign to meet the host upstairs. We asked to sit on the patio because it was such a nice evening. At the time, there were lots of available table. But once the sun went down it became pretty lively in the main dining room. Pila was our sever, he was fantastic! Give him a raise! Between the 4 of us, we ordered 2 mains, the OG fried rice that you can never go without, and a salad because we are so well balanced. OMG SO MUCH FOOD! We did end up needing take out boxes for the rice and chicken. Honestly, I probably could have finished it off if i wasn't drinking, because it was DELCIOUS AF *drool*. Pro tip: ask for extra garlic sauce to go with the chicken. Ugh, I'm craving more kalbi as I write this review. 10/10 recommend our exact order, server and seating.

Side Street Inn is one of those places we absolutely love returning to! Fantastic local food, enormous family-style portions, a relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful hospitality. Come hungry, bring friends, and prepare to take home leftovers! The Details: Another excellent dinner at Side Street Inn's original location near Ala Moana! If you're looking for authentic local-style Hawaiian comfort food, this place is an absolute gem! Forget fancy white tablecloths and elaborate presentations. This is where local families and groups of friends gather around tables overflowing with delicious food, share stories, laugh, and enjoy each other's company. That's precisely what makes it special! My wife and I stopped in tonight knowing full well we'd be hopelessly outnumbered by the sheer quantity of food we'd order. But that was intentional! We love their food, and the leftovers reheat beautifully. Dinner tonight, lunch tomorrow! What's not to love? Tonight's lineup included three fantastic dishes: 1. Hawaiian Pan-Fried Pork Chops: A mountain of beautifully seasoned, golden-brown pork chops, fried to perfection and piled high on a platter. Old-school local comfort food at its finest! 2. Sizzling Boneless Kalbi Short Ribs: Tender, flavorful Korean-style marinated short ribs arriving on a sizzling cast-iron platter with kimchi. The aroma alone makes your mouth water! Absolutely delicious! 3. Lup Cheong Fried Rice: Oh, my goodness! Their signature fried rice is already fantastic, but adding sweet and savory Chinese sausage takes it to another level! Loaded with char siu, Portuguese sausage, bacon, vegetables, and lup cheong, this enormous platter is practically a meal unto itself. And when I say enormous, I mean ENORMOUS! As wonderful as the food was, I especially want to recognize our server, Celeste What an absolute delight! We learned she's also a high school teacher, and her personality was every bit as memorable as our meal. Vibrant, energetic, full of spunk, and blessed with a terrific sense of humor, she kept us laughing throughout dinner. We got along famously! And I made her groan more than once as she endured my dad jokes...! Celeste checked on us frequently without being intrusive, making sure we had everything we needed. Drinks, napkins, dipping sauces, you name it! That kind of attentive, personable service turns a great dinner into a memorable evening. Celeste, thank you for taking such wonderful care of us! You were spectacular! One thing worth emphasizing is that Side Street Inn is best enjoyed family-style. Look around and you'll see large families and groups of friends sharing some of Oahu's finest local cuisine. My advice? Bring a group, order several dishes, put everything in the middle of the table, and dig in! If you're dining as a couple like we did, embrace the inevitable leftovers. Trust me, you won't regret it! Side Street Inn remains one of our favorite places to eat on Oahu. Outstanding local food, enormous portions, wonderful people, and an atmosphere that captures the spirit of gathering around a table with family and friends. We'll absolutely be back!
