ONCE AGAIN, Zippys Ewa has succeeded in disappointing me. Sure, I get that we had a tropical storm warning yesterday cause of Iselle but we made a phone order while we were on the road to pick up food before we headed home, and figure that we were roughly 10-15 mins away so it should be ready by the time we get there. Got to Zippys, fast food section nor the restaurant wasn't busy but yet, I still had to wait on my food. The zip pac we ordered was ready when I got there to pay but I found it ridiculous that I had to wait an additional 15 minutes to wait for my saimin...MY SAIMIN! i have an ex who used to work at Zippys and even before I knew how long it would take to make the saimin, I would think it'd be one of the easiest items on the menu to make other than their premade chili. But yeah, I had to wait another 15 minutes for my saimin, I overheard the people in the front remind the cooks in the back to make my saimin about 3 times. Oh & a lot of the time, the employees in the front were often talking to each other by the window where they grab the phone from the cooks even when there was a customer waiting to order...talk about unprofessional. At one of my jobs, one of the rules was to never face your back to the register which made so much sense for various reasons. Like I said many times - this Zippy's seems to be getting worse and worse each time I come here, but the only reason why I keep coming back is the fact that it's conveniently located right up the road from my fiance's house. read more

Doesn't make any sense, and the girl on the phone could not provide a plausible reason why I had to go inside to order. Isn't it one kitchen? Why do you have a drive thru?! Fail! Zippys has always been a "default" eatery....not my top choice. They've gotten more pricier over the past few years and portions seem a little smaller. This Ewa location is clean and our waitress was friendly. All Zippys locations have a similar look and feel for the most part....take out side and dine-in side. I usually always get their vegetarian chili and mac salad. Today I got the Mahi sandwich. You can choose to have it grilled or fried. I was in the mood to have it fried. It was okay. Their tartar sauce is weak. After eating the sandwich, it wasn't really satisfying. For the side, you can choose French Fries, Onion Rings, Mac Salad, Potato Salad, etc. I chose potato salad, my first time trying it. I liked it!! I also ordered a small saimin, which I've never been crazy about their saimin, but it was a cold day and the restaurant a/c made the place cold. It does have a lot of garnishes, but I don't care for the type of noodle or the soup base...something about the whole dish kind of tastes like what I would imagine "wet dog" to taste like...LOL! Oh damn. It was about 2pm and in the mid 80's and I decided to get out of the house and into some air conditioned establishment for a light and refreshing lunch, and across the street from my momma's was the ever faithful Zippy's. I walk into the door and take a look at the restaurant. Holy shit! I had just walked into a floor manager's nightmare. More than half of the tables were piled with dirty dishes, a quarter of the tables filled with customers waiting for their food and only 3 ladies minimum covering the floor of about 20 tables. No manager or bussers... Fucken' A! Relax dude, you're on vacation. I am sat at one of the few semi-clean tables near the door and given a menu promptly. Cool. Strange thing. As I'm scanning through the menu, I realize that nothing looked appetizing. Huh? I used to like this food. Since I was a kid, it was alway Zippy's. Through jr. high through high school and then some. After late night parties, we'd hit up the 24hr. in Waimalu. But here I was, actually figuring out what seems the least grossest dish on the menu. I settled for the Zipmin. Can't go wrong with noodles right? Wrong. It can and did. The Classic Zippy's Zipmin: Thick ramen noodles, w/ thick wrapper wun-tun, charsiu, nori, shrimp tempura, kamaboko fishcake, vegies, and sliced scrambles eggs in a hot broth. I used to love the Zipmin. I used to swear by it. No folks, it's not any different than before and they didn't fuck up my order. Hell, they can't fuck it up. It's gotten to the point where they place every thing in a pot, add hot water, cover and let sit, then serve. Done. But, I changed. What I used to find so delicious and comforting just doesn't cut for me any more. I realized as I finished my meal, that the good ol' day's of Zippy's are gone for me. We had ordered our food along with drinks, but our drinks only came after 10 minutes passed. Usually the drinks come first thing. Once our food came, I knew that mine was sitting in the kitchen for a few minutes because I ate it, and it was cold. Very disappointed this morning. Got to zippys at 5:15 am, a little early as the dine in restaurant doesn't open until 6, which was fine so we decided to get some coffee at the counter and wait. It is 6:00 am and lights still out at dine in area: the female workers at the counter area just looked at us and laughed. How did we eat here three times on one vacation trip? Twice on a sit down and once on the fast food side. Hard to not find something you like at Zippy's I know it is relatively expensive compared to some of the small plate lunch places but Zippy's is sort of the Hawaii McDonald's - you know what you are getting every time. I like how they accommodate a large group by removing the separator between booths. My son took down the chili moco twice (we had to stop by the Zippy's admin offices to get a chili t-shirt), I had an omelet and split some chili cheese fries. Other dishes included the chicken katsu curry saimin, zip min, Korean chicken salad and more. How can you not order the chili? read more

Zippy is A-OK. Had to stop by here to get my meal for tonight. Located in Ewa Beach and the only one in Ewa this place is always busy. It is never too crowded nor is it ever empty. The staff may look like they are overwhelmed with orders but they always manage to get through having the meal ready to go in 10mins. I see no problems with this restaurant as they always make their meals as tasty as the picture shows. read more

So for a late night snack where better to go than Zippy's right? Well that is what I was told so I headed there with my compadres and picked up a teriyaki beef burger, saimin and an apple napple since I've been told they are to die for. Well when I ordered the burger I expected a regular burger with sauce, but what I got was so much better. Shredded beef drenched in yummy teriyaki sauce. The saimin was tasty too. As for the apple napple I was not disappointed. It was flaky and filled with apple goodness, yet it wasn't too sweet like how most turnovers are made in bakeries. Days later I picked up a double chocolate yeast donut. Wow after eating that I wish I had another. read more

Came home only to find that we were given noodles and about a teaspoon of broth. Not sure how hard it is to properly pack a takeout saimin, let alone do a quality check before moving on to the next guest in line. Will stick to packaged ramen from now on. You can never go wrong with Zippy's! One of the few places in Ewa that closes late. It was busy tonight but the workers managed to send out the orders without anyone waiting too long (max wait was probably 5-10mins). The workers are so friendly there, I often visit there and the workers are always welcoming and some know my name. I ordered a Portuguese Bean Soup and and side of French fries tonight. Not much you could say about the fries, except that I like how they made the portion size bigger than before. One of the few menu items that isn't over-priced. The Portuguese Bean Soup is awesome! Many chunks of Portuguese sausage, beans, potatoes, and vegetables. The only con is probably pricing for the portions you get. Like $7 for a small salad and $5 for a small sized milkshake. Idk, it's probably not worth to buy those items anyways when there is such an expansive menu. Also, they need to open for 24 hours again cause it's always a nice place to hangout to sober up or just cruise on a random summer night. read more

Couldn't tell you how the food was because I never picked up my food. I called in my order; easy process, order taker was nice. He told me i would need to come i side if i wanted to order a specialty dessert. Ok, no problem. I might as well have been invisible. After waiting in line at Napolean's Bakery (this was my first time at a Zippy's so I didn't know where I was supposed to order dessert from), I was told (nicely) to order at the register where people pay for their meals. So I waited. Hostesses are coming and going, finally one says, without making eye contact, "I'll be right with you." After doing whatever in the back, I see this same employee begin bussing tables. Ok, no big deal, maybe that takes priority. What really grinded my gears though, was this: Eventually another customer takes her place beside me at the counter. She says to me "Everyone is so busy huh? I smiled and agreed. Finally, an employee comes over. Thank God, right!? After all, my takeout order is losing quality by the minute. Instead of seeing what I need, and even after the lady who spoke to me said I was first, she proceeded to say something in another language, they laughed, and she checked the lady out. Then the employee asks me if I need something, as if I was just standing there for the view! "I'd like to place an order from your dessert menu," I say. She slides me a menu and walks away as I'm telling her I already know what I want. I continue to wait as the lady who gave me the menu walks past me and yet another employee approaches the register without saying a word to me. Horrible customer service! They make Eye contact with you then turn and act like your not there. After we finally got to order, there was a few customer that came in and they completely ignored them for a long while. One customer had to ask if they were closed for someone to help her, I mean Really?? To top it off, they had four or five people working, just talking story and huddling around that window where the food comes out. I had to ask for my drinks, and when would my food be ready? Ordered the Fried Noodles... It was flooded with oil and it was soggy... When cooking fried noodles or fried rice, you have to keep tossing it to let the steam out until it is cooked... The food here is good, however the service is not. My husband and I walked in at 11:30pm, and the sign said that the dining area closes at midnight. We walked in knowing that we were just having a quick late night bite, and wanted to sit down to have dinner. As we were waiting for a table, the woman with a flower in her hair told us "the dining area closes at 12, go order takeout." We still had more than enough time to sit, eat, and leave by the time the dining area closed. So we ordered takeout and left. Very disappointed. read more

So I just got back to Oahu after spending a week on the mainland. First stop, Zippy's! Tried to call in ahead of time since I was tired and hungry. Ended up being on HOLD all the way from Aiea until I parked the car. RIDICULOUS. Sure it was a Friday night, but c'mon. Ended up waiting for my food for about 20 minutes. I used to come to this location every week because its one of the only spots in Ewa Beach thats open late. With that being said, they need more servers on floor during these times especially around 9-10pm when most restaurants close leading hungry people to come here. The past couple times I've been here, there were only 2 servers on the floor... took 15min just to order and another 20 for the check. I dont blame the server at all since shes being sat back to back due to the short staff... HOWEVER because of this, the host\hostess should be helping out more. Besides starting us off with drinks, which I appreciate, they should at least take our order to give to the server who is busting their ass off getting drinks, taking orders, running food AND bussing tables. I wanted to give no tip for the ridiculous wait, but I understand what its like to be short staffed and being triple+ sat... I feel so bad for these late night servers. Adding one more to the floor could really help them and gain better customer service in general. read more

I can't even recommend anything from Zippy's because it's so good, I would just end up throwing the whole menu at your face. Good food and good service should nicely sum up this restaurant. but for those who want specifics, here's the scoop: Zippy's offers a variety of services: Drive-through, pick-up, eat-in, and waiter service. The place is clean and comfortable and for the most part, they get your food out pretty quickly. The staff is as friendly as they come -- Very efficient and very accomodating. Not once have I've been ignored and left to stand there, waiting for service. They are always prompt to greet you. The food almost always hits the right spot. I didn't give out the full five stars because I do remember one night when I picked up my food and found it sloppily made when I got home. Probably the only (and hopefully the last) unfavorable moment I ever had with this establishment. Other than that, the food comes out piping hot, nice, and delicious. Also, if the regular menu doesn't impress you, try their bakery. It will make you cry tears of joy. read more
