Took my Big Island visitors to Ewa Zips yesterday for lunch before heading off to the airport. Both sides were very busy and the parking lot was packed. Ordered 2 wun tun mins, prime burger, and a zip pac. My guests said the 2 wun tun mins were ono, much better than the ones the have when the visit the Hilo location. My zip pac was good except for the fact that the rice was cold at room temperature, not even warm. Service was a bit slow as there were only 2 counter staff, and only 2 people in the kitchen, our order took about 15 minutes to come out. The kitchen side seemed to be the side that needed the help as the counter was waiting on the prime burger while the rest of the food sat on the counter. Had a bad experience here tonight. I ordered online, got at the cashier, and was told they ran out of cornbread, I said it's fine. While waiting for my order, I checked my receipt and one plate was missing. Went to the same cashier and asked her about the missing plate but she couldn't find the order on her end. That's when she started giving me attitude so I said it's ok just ring me up the order that was missing. She rolled her eyes and walked out on me. I called the manager and talked to her about how her staff treated me. The manager was apologizing for how the staff treated me. It's not an excuse that she was tired or having a bad day to treat people especially customers badly. ordered the garlic miso chicken on Monday around 3pm. Loved the chicken, hated the (brown) rice. It was hard as a rock! I called them back, told them my concerns and they would replace it. I was going to come back yesterday to get a replacement for the garlic miso chicken (with the receipt). I called back yesterday around 9 (I worked all day so it took me so long before I could call) and was trying to get a manager on the phone. The person who answered (not the manager) was rude! He put me on hold for 5-10 minutes. I called back. Again he put me on hold for 5 minutes. Called a third time by then it was too late to place an order for the garlic miso chicken (since it was after 9:30pm). I'll go back today but it won't change the fact that the service was terrible and they could do a better job with that. At least I'll get a free meal out of it. I hope they don't serve rice that is hard as a rock (probably will be sitting in the rice pot for more than 6 hours). Also, some idiot driver cut me off to go to the tiny drive thru. Im usually not a KAREN but called and complained about it maybe three times already. The managers are really understanding and they always offer me a free meal or to remake. My family and I went to have dinner at Zippys in Ewa Beach last night 1/24/22 around 8:30pm. I would like to acknowledge our TERRIFIC server JADELYN !! She was awesome from the time we walked in, til the time we walked out. She acknowledged us as HUMANS not as customers. She treated my children with the same respect and dignity as she did my husband and I. She was a tad bit busy, but it NEVER showed in her service. She made sure to go above and beyond for everything we asked for and ordered. I would like for a manager to please show this review to Jade and let her know she is doing a WONDERFUL job !! Both my husband and I are in the food service industry and we were both VERY PLEASED to see that there are other servers who take their service job to the hospitality level. My go to are Chili with rice (my favorite!), Surf Pac and Korean Chicken plate. Prices are average and a bit pricey on some items. Many of of the plates, you can choose a mini or full plate. Their Mac Salad is my favorite. Wait can vary on the time you go, dinner or breakfast. My wait time varied from 10 minutes to 20 minutes. They have a drive thru and only I used it once, but you need to call in your order. A place to come for take-out. read more

This is my favorite Zippy's location on the island. Why, you might ask? They have amazing customer service, always fast and they make the order right. Even on the weekends there usually isn't a wait. We are in and out, fed and happy in 30 mins. If you don't live in Ewa this location is obviously way out of the way. My favorite is the loco moco. They used to offer fried rice with it but recently it's only been white or brown. Still ono either way! The waitresses refill the coffee without missing a beat. I previously had an unpleasant experience at another location. The Zippy's PR is beyond amazing, she quickly resolved my complaint and was very kind and understanding. I frequent this Zippy's location the most because I live in Ewa Beach. I'm going to be honest as a local resident living in Hawaii for 48 years I'm not exactly head over heels about Zippy's food. Except for their Thanksgiving Package, that's actually worth the price and convenience, and the flavor of the turkey, and the mash potatoes are really good. I believe they use Butterball turkey, so it's really moist and juicy. Anyway, this current review is for today, April 12, 2021. I went there to pick up dinner which I ordered through the app. I actually love the app because you can order and pay ahead of time, and just show up to pick up your food. This process has been pretty simple, and for the most part their estimated pick up times are pretty accurate. This evening I placed my order through the app, and paid for it also. The estimated pick up time was about 15 minutes which I thought was pretty quick. I get there at 4:45, and pick up time was 4:44. They have a separate line for those who ordered and paid through the app, so I went straight to that line. The young man asked me if he could help me and I said, yes I'm here to pick up my order. He asked me if I paid for it, and I said yes I paid for it already, and he asked me what name was it under, so I gave him my name. He couldn't find my order and came back to me and asked me again if I paid for it, and I said yes I did. He still couldn't find my order and he came back a third time and asked me again if I paid for it, and by this time I was annoyed. I answered him yes I paid for it, and then I asked him did you not hear me say I paid for it when you asked me the first two times? He said, yes I heard you, so I said then why are you asking me for the third time if I paid for it? He said, I just had to make sure, and I said make sure? You think I was lying the first two times? He seemed to have trouble finding my order, and then finally he found it. I admire how Zippy's likes to hire a lot of young workers, and some of them might still be in high school, which is great. I just think they need to do a better job training their workers on proper customer service, and communication. The young workers don't look you in the eye, they always seemed annoyed and not concerned about the mistakes they are making, and when they say sorry, it comes off very insincere. I'm not sure if it's a generational thing, but I notice this at other food service establishments that hire young people. Again, I think it's great to give them an opportunity, I was once their age, and I have kids who will be entering the work force soon, but they need to receive proper training on how to deal with customers. I also want to say that for an establishment who's made their living off local people of Hawaii, they are very rigid and not very accommodating when it comes to their menu. All the food is cooked under the same roof, but when you ask for something on the take out side that's only offered on the dine in side, they won't accommodate you. Being familiar with your location and frequenting this restaurant doesn't allow me to overlook this experience. I much prefer waiting for my food inside your restaurant without crazy people that talk to themselves strolling through without second glances from you or your employees. Furthermore, I am sincerely grateful that, upon my leaving your establishment, there was a large group of people doing the same that parked next to me. As a single woman, at night, in your parking lot, being approached and followed by a crazy man talking to himself (that had been wandering through your restaurant numerous times) doesn't give me much hope for the future, and I don't think I would have been so lucky were it not for the others nearby. Last night I ate at Zippys Ewa and ordered Oxtail soup. In the first scoop of it, I found hair in the food. The waitress was able to to immediately replace my food. I thought, fine, I'll stay positive. Get this though, today, I ate at Vineyard Zippys and my relative found hair in her chicken plate too, on the damn rice! I'm not making this up. A definite favorite on the islands and I so wish they would expand to California. If you grew up in Hawaii, you grew up with Zippy's. Used the app to order a barrel of chili at 10am for a 5pm pick up. I get there. There is a long line for "phone orders." We all wait as each person in our line averages about 3 minutes each. It takes me 20 minutes to get a barrel of chili, ordered and paid for 7 hours ago. Meanwhile, people just walking in, order a barrel of chili and get it in 2 minutes. When I did get to the counter they say, "Sir, that register is closed. You need to order over there." She points to where walk-ins are being ordered. I say, "But you were helping everyone before me." Normally, I love Zippys. When I was in the mainland and came home to visit, this is the first place I would stop as soon as I got off the plane. We tend to go to this Zippys as it's the closest to our house. I think its really hit or miss on how the food taste based off the cook, but normally its pretty good. I usually get the Korean fried chicken. Most times it is okay, sometimes it is really dry, and the last time it was just plain horrible. We called in our order for a quick pick up and the chick on the phone was rude as heck. When we got our food, both of our chickens were a little undercooked. The outside looked great, but a few of the pieces were still kind of pinkish and chewy and tasted a little different. It kind of turned my stomach once I realized that it wasn't cooked well. Late night run to Zippy's Ewa. Never have any issues before, but since there were a few " trainees" I think that our order took way to long.. we ordered our food at 9pm and didn't get it until 945. Not too sure of the fries were old but they tasted stale. We were already home when we noticed it and we don't live that far from this location. Also I asked for Choi sum in my samin and no knew what I was talking about. Again I don't know if it was cause they were trainees. The drive thru and counter deserves at least 3 stars but the dining room waitresses are the worst. Very unfriendly and made us feel like we were bothering them. Jovana/Dani was our waitress this time but the last time it was an older Filipino lady. This is the 2nd time in 30 days we ate in the dining room and both times the service was bad. It's Saturday night 10:00pm and the dining room was half full no reason for bad service. The food was not that great too. The shoyu pork was mediocre and our Saimin was cold. For desert we had grilled corn bread which was soggy and my lemon meringue crust was soggy too. Very very disappointed in the service. We had to ask for water, the food took a long time and when it did arrive it wasn't hot. Our server named Erica didn't come around to refill our water. All my loyal followers (all 2 of you? Haha) know exactly why I one-starred Zippy's. That's right, you got it...awful customer service. I mean, it's a Zippy's, this chain is not necessarily known for its outstanding customer service and this one is no exception. It's cleaner than most of the Zippy's I've been to on island but that's where the pros end. So, we ordered a large catering-sized fried chicken and Korean chicken combo. They said over the phone that it would be ready in 20 minutes. I live 2 minutes away so this was perfect. I actually arrived after the 20 minutes and expected my order to be ready. I go up to the "phone orders" cash register where there was a young man running the drive-thru orders. He continued to go back and forth between the register and the window. Not once did he look at me let alone acknowledge my presence. This goes the same for the rest of the employees - there were so many and not one of them bothered to even ask if I had been helped. As you can imagine, my blood was beginning to boil. But alas, I still waited patiently (or at least appeared to on the outside ;) ). I waited for over 10 minutes before a young lady named Lillibeth asked if I had been helped, to which I replied no. My order had been ready that whole time and once she grabbed it, the entire process took less than 2 minutes. After Lillibeth walked away to grab my order, one of the managers came out from the back, her hands full, and asked if I had been helped. I thanked her and told her that yes, someone just tended to me. Upon checkout, I asked Lillibeth for her name and thanked her for being the ONLY employee (save the manager) who asked me if I needed help. FOOD: same same. All Zippy's are the same CLEANLINESS: still fairly new so still pretty clean CUSTOMER SERVICE: do they even know what that means? **to add to the review, while I was standing in front of the "phone orders" cash register, their phone kept ringing and no one ever picked it up. Take out takes awhile because they're always very busy. I've found it better to call in a phone order and give it time before picking it up. They also have a "drive-thru" for picking up phone orders.
