I brought them my strapless wedding dress to hem, add a bustle and sleeves. They blamed me…read morerepeatedly for wanting sleeves and came up with the ugliest design for these t-shirt sleeves for a wedding dress. The bustle looked really odd and ugly. I finally paid and took it to Mariellen of Alstair's design in St. Albert. Mariellen was very helpful and able to make the bustle look beautiful and put on new sleeves. she was stunned that I paid for the work that was done. Capital Tailors did what was asked. Their shop was 27 degrees and I was dripping sweat in the dress. At points I just wanted to cry. They also had one visit where they told me not to gain any more weight. It was a very difficult experience because I didn't even want to put on my dress anymore. it was very well priced for a poor job.

Prices were reasonable and craftsmanship and service was great. They have made a new business arrangement and have "sold" I think to new owners but Allan and Judy look like they still work in the back. Anyway about a week ago, my wife called on the date she was told her items would be ready (no rush at all she gave 3 weeks as she was travelling anyway) They confirmed that she should come in to pick up. When she arrived, no work had been done and they asked her to come back later. I went in myself today. They were measuring things unevenly and told them tricks to do it right (that Allan taught me). When I asked if they would guarantee the date THEY gave me, they agreed that it would be done despite the issue with my wife's order. Just as I was about leave the parking lot they came running to my out to my car saying they were unsure if they could meet their own timeliness. They returned my clothes and recommended I go elsewhere. Which I did. Over 15 yrs and they are willing to lose a loyal customer. Sad to see an excellent locally owned business that has lost talent and customer service.

The tailor saw right away what was wrong with the zipper and had a plan in place how to fix the problem. He indicated that the zipper needed to be stronger, wider and of a better quality. He suggested having a much better single zipper and for the zipper to not extend to the bottom of the parka. I readily agreed with him that this would be a perfect plan. Fabric would be put in place at the bottom. It also already had snaps. I brought it in on Tuesday and it was ready on Friday. I was ever so very happy with my parka and truly wonderful new zipper (YKK - great quality)!!! It works perfectly now and I have no difficulties with it! I have in the past brought items into the shop and have always been totally satisified with the service and reasonable costs!!! Do bring your tailoring needs here and of course drycleaning!

I had dropped off a pair of basic Zara sweat pants to get hemmed (nothing fancy) just a straight hemm. Was a bit irritated that they wanted $25 for that, when I said that's a lot he knocked $5 off. They told me I could pick them up in a week so really defeated coming here since I needed them ASAP. It's unfortunate because it's a decent space they have.

I was very satisfied with the service and always said I wanted my pants to be touching the floor without shoes on....every time! I don't know her name but i went in enough that she recognized me. I had taken in a pair of black linen pants and went through the whole scenario of trying them on, have them touch the floor without shoes and then I just picked them up a few days later. I didn't try them on right away because I've never had a problem. I took them with me on a trip a couple of weeks later. When I put them on, they were a solid inch and a half too short. I can't wear them. I took them back in to see if maybe she could let the hem down but it didn't look like enough fabric was left. She said 3/4 of an inch was all she could do But I would have to pay, Again!! I got pressed about having a receipt. I had taken another pair of pants with me that day that needed to be hemmed. I thought maybe she would even offer to do those for free for compensation, but the only solution was for me to pay for her to fix what she did wrong in the first place. Needless to say, I didn't leave my other pair of pants and found a new Tailor.

About a decade ago, I came to this business (different location before) upon a friend's recommendation for wedding gown alterations...since the first in-mall tailor I went to was inexperienced & had attempted to hem my gown anyway, doing a poor job & costing me $150, recommending that I go elsewhere to tailor the bustier on it. Let me tell you, at the first appointment, the seamstress at this business immediately knew what was done wrong, and where the work on the dress should've been done to hem properly judging by the weight of the fabric & the intricate beading design. She also knew how to salvage the gown & adjust it accordingly, I trusted her enough to also alter another evening gown I had planned to wear on my wedding. Amazingly her work was so precise, that I only required that appointment & the subsequent fitting for the gowns to look exactly as desired and fitting like it was made for you. Fast forward till today & service is still the same, but now with a larger dressing space & seating room... they'll soon be moving to the west end soon! Price depends on the amount of work needed, but for what you end up with, it's worth it...so save or budget for it! I always recommend brides who ask me where to get their alterations to go to Debbie's & all have been pleased with the end results. They don't even need to advertise; their work speaks volumes & so do the referrals from their happy customers.

They only take appointments but it's very easy to book one. I managed to get my alterations done in plenty of time by the wedding with no rush, and it only took two appointments. The first appointment was for trying on the dress and getting the initial measurements for the alterations, the second appointment was for trying on the dress after the alterations and seeing if everything was good. Sometimes they will book a third appointment if further alterations need to be done. Looking back, it may not have hurt for me to book the third appointment, as the bust was a little off during my wedding day, but no big deal. Overall the alterations turned out well, my dress was handled professionally and the ladies there make you feel like a princess. In terms of costs, I think it's relatively comparable to similar places. In the end it cost me just over $400 for hem alterations (shortening the train), bust alterations and shortening the straps. The cost will depend on how much work you need done on your dress. I think my alterations were about average, not a lot but could have been less. They also have a great selection of bridal accessories incl. jewelry, hairpieces, veils, etc. Thank you, Debbie's!

I'll be taking all my tailoring to John the Tailor at City Centre from now on. He's good because…read morehe's fast and gets the job done exactly how you want it. I recently needed a new pair of pants altered, and the folks at Club Monaco recommended John the Tailor. They said he was the best in downtown, and that most people in the city core love him. Well, you can add me to that list! The changing rooms are actually changing rooms with locks on the doors, not those small compartments with curtains that make you feel so vulnerable. With a quick tuck here and a single swish of his tailor's chalk, John has your measurements done in no time and you can be off to run other errands in the mall. He doesn't waste your time, and that's one thing I really like about him. He also hums and whistles while he works, which I think is rather endearing. I asked him if he could have my pants (two pairs) done sooner, and he said he'd try to get them done in a day. I came back at the end of the next day, and both my pants were altered just to my liking. It came to $34 for both my pants, which I think is fair for the quality of the work. It's like I bought them just like that. Taking in a pair of pants at the waist will cost more than simply adjusting the hems. The staff are helpful and friendly; one guy was conversing with an elderly lady when I picked up my tailoring. They seem quite busy here, as there is always someone there when I come by, and it seems you have to specifically ask for a rush order, otherwise it could take a few days because they have so many orders coming in. I'm definitely taking my clothes to John again the next time I need some altering done. If you're downtown and need a good tailor, remember -- John's the man! Thanks, John!
