Capital Tailors operates out of a house with a small parking lot in the back. The first time I went to see Judy, I got a pair of jeans shortened and straps on a fancy top (both under $10 each to fix). Judy tells you the cost of each repair up front, which I appreciate...it sucks being surprised when picking up your clothes, and it costs more than you originally expected. I usually give her one week to complete my "order", and the quality and price are worth the wait. I also appreciate the convenience of private parking near 99 street, behind the house. And it's only blocks away from Wild Earth Cafe, Culina and Route 99. My favourite tailor on the city. read more

I have been a loyal customer since 2008. For men's clothes Allan was very knowledgeable, professional, and honest about the work to be done and one's choices. Prices were reasonable and craftsmanship and service was great. They have made a new business arrangement and have "sold" I think to new owners but Allan and Judy look like they still work in the back. Anyway about a week ago, my wife called on the date she was told her items would be ready (no rush at all she gave 3 weeks as she was travelling anyway) They confirmed that she should come in to pick up. When she arrived, no work had been done and they asked her to come back later. I went in myself today. They were measuring things unevenly and told them tricks to do it right (that Allan taught me). When I asked if they would guarantee the date THEY gave me, they agreed that it would be done despite the issue with my wife's order. Just as I was about leave the parking lot they came running to my out to my car saying they were unsure if they could meet their own timeliness. They returned my clothes and recommended I go elsewhere. Which I did. Over 15 yrs and they are willing to lose a loyal customer. Judy assured me that I was wrong - and went to great lengths to tell me how she cut my IKEA net cutains and that there was no way she would make and error by her yard stick, safety pin/s and table method, needless to say I am over $100.00 dollars in the hole with a $60.00 charge for cutting the panels to 84 inches and the orginal investment of around $45.00 - plus for the net curtains. Never going back there and I wouldn't suggest others go to Capital Tailos as well. Be warned that the service,and argumentative owner - (Judy) are not worth getting worked up about - but buyer beware she will turn your anticipated fabric or garment needs into a disaster and you will be made to be the wrong doer. I went today to shorten my jeans, and Judy was quite rude and argumentative with me and said that I don't know what I want, although I explained it to her several times. I waited for over half an hour while she was taking clients who came after me, completely ignoring me. This is not the way to treat people! read more

There are 4 tailors near my home. I have tried them all. Capital is the best. The workmanship is second to none. The prices are the cheapest. Sometimes you have to wait a week or two, but if you really need a rush job, they'll try to squeeze you in. I take my leather jackets here for hemming and my fur coat for repairs. I even had a leather purse repaired. It's always busy. I know a lady that drives here from Sherwood park, so this place is no secret. Limited parking, so try to come before 4:00pm. TAILOR FROM HELL. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I went here for my wedding dress alterations in July of 2019. I made an appointment over a month in advance. Everything went ok at the first appointment. When the time came for my second appointment, she (Judy, the owner) called me the day before and told me she wasn't feeling well. I told her that was fine and we rescheduled for the next week. When I got there with my family, she said "I'm not done yet, almost done! I didn't even eat lunch!" So we sat there and waited. She then brought the dress out and it wasn't even half done, with half of the lace hanging off the dress. I still tried it on but wasn't able to take it home because A) It wasn't done at all and B) she had done things to it that I didn't want and never asked for (e.g. adding two mismatched size A and D cups to the bust... Looked really bad). When I told her the bust area was off due to the wrong size cups, she told me "it's fine!! It's fine!!" And patted my bust area and slapped my butt repeatedly.... Very unprofessional and irritating. So then we rescheduled again for the following Saturday at noon. When I got there at noon, she had forgotten about my appointment and said, "Why you here, your appointment is at 5:30." I know for a fact that the appointment was for noon because I had it written down. She didn't even apologize and told me she will call me at 6pm when she is finished with the dress. I waited and waited and she still hadn't called me at 6:30 so I called her, and she told me " I'm not done!!! I'll call you when it's done, in half an hour." I waited again and she still hadn't called by 8pm. When I called again at 8, she told me she was done so I went in. When I got there, the dress was still not done- the bust cups were still the wrong size and beads were falling off the dress. So we rescheduled AGAIN for the following Monday, right before my wedding. When i finally got there on Monday, there were still beads falling off so I had to wait another hour for her to put them back on. On top of that, she had somehow ripped the front of my wedding gown bag, and there was a huge hole in the front. When my mom asked if we could get any discount for all the stress and inconvenience she caused during this whole process, she immediately yelled and screamed at us without wanting to hear our explanation and took the dress to the back, saying she will call the police. Then she said everything was our fault since she had to do "so much work" on the dress changing the cups, even though that was entirely her fault. So then we paid the full price and she threated us with a raised fist, screaming at us to "GO AWAY!!!!" DON'T EVER GO HERE, all you'll get is a giant headache and harassment. read more

They have previously done some repairs for me that I was happy with but my last two visits were a complete disaster. First time two skirts were altered unevenly on either side and today they really surprised me with what they did to my dress. They had told me exactly what they would do to fix it but did it completely differently. I would have never agreed had I known what they would do. read more

I have been a client of Judy's for two years. Over the 2 years I have been berated by her on several occasions for forgetting my yellow slip. But today took the cake..... I did not have my slip and Judy lost her mind. She tore a strip off me, up one side and done the other in the company of clients. warning ,stay away dishonest tailors! I brought a guess jacket in for minor repair. When I picked it up Judy said I do not know what happened nobody touched it. There were several small rips all over my jacket, then she grabbed the jacket and refused to return it to me, I stated that is my property. she told me to take her to court, and that is what I plan to do. Save yourself a horrible experience, for I do not know if they understand Canadian law regrading liability for items in there possession. read more

This is my new go-to place for alterations. Everything that they've altered for me here fits me very well. However, you do have to go in with an idea of how you want the clothes to be altered. For example, how long you want your pants to be. I wear skinnier pants and I don't like a break at the bottom. I have to tell them not to put a break. I also tell them how long to leave the sleeves on the suit jacket. These are all personal preferences that you show know going in anyway. If you don't though, I think you will get fairly conservative (safe) alterations here. read more

I took a beautiful dress to Capital Tailors to add chiffon on it for my sister wedding. She mentioned to me what she was going to do to my dress which included a zipper down the seam. She said I could come and pick it up in a week. I went back in a week and the dress was not ready but I did try on the dress. I could not zip up the zipper on the side. She did not measure my chest to being with. This time she did. Why would she put the zipper on the left side of the dress?? I am right handed. So I went back in a week to hopefully get my dress. Well it was not ready again. She said come back in an hour. I gave her 4 hours. When I tried on the dress again it did not fit in the chest area. She was so busy with other customers she barely gave me the time and day. I asked her if she could zipper me up because I could not do it. She started to zipper me up and she pinched the skin and it bleed. To say the least I was very upset. I asked her why would she take on a project if she could not produce a outcome. My dress is competly ruined. This dress was original for my girlfriends wedding but her partner was killed. It had sentimental values. I grabbed my dress and left. I did not pay her at all. Now I am on a hunt for another streamstress to see if my dress can be fixed. I would never ever go back there again. read more

They did an amazing job tailoring my winter coat. They took it in around the hips and shortened the sleeves. It is a very fancy coat and they did the best job. It took a week and a half which I think is more than reasonable considering it was a complicated job. And the price was great. If you need anything done, go to Capital. Amazing service! Fast and about a 1/3 of the price we used to pay in Calgary! I drive from leduc to use the service here! Always able to find ample parking in the free lot and was able to have 2 dresses taken in in under a week. I don't find this to be a long time as other reviewers have posted! I had a bridesmaid dress altered. She had to take it in and change the shape of the hem (it was high/low, and it became just high). I was very happy with the work. You can't tell it was altered. There were several layers of faberic.. several layers of ruched chiffon and then a satin lining. It turned out great. It only took a couple days and was half the price of other quotes I got.
