A shocking and disgraceful state of affairs. A mess dress that took SIX MONTHS to complete. Part of the tailoring was missing and when complained to accused me of behaving and being a "child" and made numerous excuses. Paid upfront for the work totalling nearly TWO THOUSAND Dollars and yet it was MY FAULT I was not happy. Threatened to report me to my CO (Nothing to do with him or the regiment I serve with) because I wasn't happy things had not been done and I was the one having to chase the owner down on. I would NOT recommend anyone to this store where the tailor treated me SO poorly, made excuses and was insincere in he lameness of his apology before dismissing me like some dog on the street. I'll be taking all my tailoring to John the Tailor at City Centre from now on. He's good because he's fast and gets the job done exactly how you want it. I recently needed a new pair of pants altered, and the folks at Club Monaco recommended John the Tailor. They said he was the best in downtown, and that most people in the city core love him. Well, you can add me to that list! The changing rooms are actually changing rooms with locks on the doors, not those small compartments with curtains that make you feel so vulnerable. With a quick tuck here and a single swish of his tailor's chalk, John has your measurements done in no time and you can be off to run other errands in the mall. He doesn't waste your time, and that's one thing I really like about him. He also hums and whistles while he works, which I think is rather endearing. I asked him if he could have my pants (two pairs) done sooner, and he said he'd try to get them done in a day. I came back at the end of the next day, and both my pants were altered just to my liking. It came to $34 for both my pants, which I think is fair for the quality of the work. It's like I bought them just like that. Taking in a pair of pants at the waist will cost more than simply adjusting the hems. The staff are helpful and friendly; one guy was conversing with an elderly lady when I picked up my tailoring. They seem quite busy here, as there is always someone there when I come by, and it seems you have to specifically ask for a rush order, otherwise it could take a few days because they have so many orders coming in. I'm definitely taking my clothes to John again the next time I need some altering done. If you're downtown and need a good tailor, remember -- John's the man! Thanks, John! read more

I dropped off a pair of trouser jeans at John the Tailor last Saturday afternoon for hemming. I had a delightful, quick encounter with a staffer (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten), and I was glad my first trip ever to a tailor was not painful at all--in fact, quite enjoyable. I said there was no rush, so we agreed on April 16th. I received a call this morning to tell me they were already finished. I'll add another star after I pick them up and take a look, but I have a feeling they'll be great. They'll also getting a lot more of my business because of their convenient location in City Centre Mall (though it's hidden away near the pedway to the Sutton Place Hotel). A note: if you habitually put your clothes in the dryer, you'll want to put your items to be tailored through a wash and dry cycle before you drop them off. They have signs all over their shop to this effect, but I wasn't aware of it beforehand. I was exempted after I promised that I never put anything but towels and sheets in the dryer, but you may not be so lucky :). Update: they're perfect! read more

The tailor and alteration store "John the Tailor" is very efficient, where the service is friendly, the prices sweet, and the work is well outlined, I'll definitely be coming back here if I need anything else. The owner examined the zipper, took out a pair of plyers and fixed it in 5 minutes. I was so impressed with his professional attitude. I highly recommend John the Tailor. Located conveniently in City Centre, the service is fast, the work is exceptional, and the price is fair. John may not have the best bedside manner on the phone, but I can get past that because of the fast and excellent work that he and his two associates produce for their clients. I took two pairs of jeans in last Tuesday to be hemmed and they said they would be ready by Thursday. I didn't receive a call unfortunately, so I called on Monday to see if the pants were ready. They were, so I dropped by. It came to $30 and it is probably the best hemming job I have ever paid for any pair of pants. Exceptional attention to detail and finishing. John is a sweet, old-school man that you're secretly nostalgic for the moment you walk into his shop. He has a small but efficient space that's a bit of a challenge to find (you have to enter through the main Centre High School entrance and take the elevator to the right up to the 4th floor, and its around the corner, past some start-up offices). John will tend to your tailoring needs diligently, with an ingrained professionalism and know-how that comes from someone who's been doing it for 50-some years. His prices to style you like Don Draper are pretty reasonable and he can usually get it done in two days or less. Definitely recommend for a downtown, 9-to-5 tailor. read more

This past Saturday we needed to put a zipper in a leather jacket for my boyfriend. We did not know that the zipper had broke until Friday night about 10 PM. I told him do not worry we will go to John the tailor and see if he can rush it. We showed up at about 12 PM the next day and Amir was not in. We explained to his staff that we needed it for a funeral prayer service later that evening. His staff said it was his day off. I asked if could phone him. The man called and Amir wanted to speak with me. Right away Amir said he was on his way down and that I would have that jacket with a brand new zipper that day. I was ecstatic and wanted to share this with everybody. Amir was not only compassionate about my boyfriend's Aunt's death, but he didn't even want to charge me. But we forced him to take the money. The only thing he said to me was he'd appreciate me telling all of my friends about their service. This is exactly what I am doing and I am letting everybody reading this know too that they do phenomenal tailoring in and I will never look elsewhere. After a bad experience with some other tailors on Whyte Ave, I started asking clothing retailers if they could recommend a good tailor. I heard the name 'John the Tailor' quite a bit, all the way from Henry Singer to Mark's Work Warehouse, believe it or not. Started with some repair work, he was professional and quick, the job was perfect. Next trip I took some new clothes for alterations, again an excellent experience. I was in and out in about 5 minutes, had the job done in 2 days. Most striking was quality of workmanship, like it was factory made. I will not go anywhere else now, and unless something drastically changes I highly recommend John the Tailor in Edmonton Center. read more
