Had dinner and a glass of wine shortly after opening time at 5:00 pm. Most of the tables were either occupied or reserved for guests arriving shortly. Nonetheless, they were able to squeeze me into one of the tables. Service for drinks and placing my dinner order was prompt, and I was served some crusty, tasty bread while waiting for my salad. We are not local to Lodi. We were getting married at Grand Island Mansion and were looking for a nice place for our rehearsal dinner for a party of 27. I am so glad we found this gem! We reserved this place and had it all to ourselves for the whole evening for a very reasonable cost. We had a fantastic experience; everything was fabulous. The restaurant owners and the staff were very professional and lovely. The owners who also run this small restaurant were very friendly, responsive in emails, and very communicative. They even made cute name cards with food picks for everyone in our group. The food was terrific, and everyone enjoyed the night very much. I am so glad we found this place! It was awesome! This place is truly a gem. We've been here twice on our travels through Lodi and we're very impressed with the food and service both times. I've eaten in a lot of high end restaurants in the US and internationally and I'd rate this place right up there with a lot of them on the quality and taste of the meal. I felt Zen at Zin... what of peaceful and joyful place a high end "hole in the wall" gem at the lake in Westlake Village.

We came in after a family photo shoot and the experience was awesome. The server was hilarious and very attentive. He literally had the whole restaraunt to serve by himself because we came in on a Wednesday and they got hit unexpectedly. Each of our food orders came out in a reasonable time and they were delicious. Even though this is not a kids restaurant, our kids loved their burger! Wow, went to dinner last night and I guess being so used to poor service, poor food and just nothing great anymore especially after Covid came and went my wife and I were so happily surprised. I ordered the steak Diana with mashed potatoes. OMG the best meal ever with a cobb salad. My wife ordered the wolf fish AMAZING. This place is awesome. The chef is fabulous. Enjoyed the pork scallopini and the lamb shank. Both were wonderfully tasty and each bite a delight. The pork had been tenderized and was enhanced because of it. Both of these dishes are highly recommended. There were a lot of specials, so many that it was hard to keep them all in mind. Thus, it was easy to just go with the menu, which is what we did. Our server was entertaining and has a great sense of humor. He would stop by the table to show us dishes in case we were having trouble deciding. This restaurant space is small with only about ten tables. This had no effect on our enjoyment however, as the noise was limited to those there. For a Saturday night, you definitely want a reservation for dinner, as we saw one walk-in party of three turned away. We were unsure if there was any parking other than "street". We parked illegally at the strip mall next door, and our car was still there following our meal. We look forward to our next visit. Enjoy! read more

I am SHOCKED this place has such great reviews. It is mediocre at best. And I am not one to be negative at all. The only reason it gets 2 stars from me is because of the atmosphere. Made a reservation, because seriously, people that have been/are in the restaurant business KNOW that the day before to the weekend of V-day is super BUSY. Apparently this place did not have any idea (eye roll). There was 1 cook, 1 server and 1 dishwasher/busser. There was 4 couples that walked in all within 5 minutes of us that also had reservations. Hellloooo? You're freaking kidding, right?! You have ONE SERVER on the floor! There was 13 tables already!! Common sense!! This guy should have been turning people away, not keeping a completely full restaurant and avoiding customers because he was too busy. With all that being said... my husband and I waited over 30 minutes for service. We sat there with our own bottle of wine (thank goodness we brought it) and watched this guy struggle to serve all these tables. When he finally took our order I thought to myself, "give this poor guy a break, hopefully the food is good..." Nope. The food is AWFUL. We both ordered New York strips that were rubber. Seriously, disgusting. I had to spit out 3-4 bites. The potatoes tasted like they were boxed potatoes (just add water) and the green beans were not even trimmed. The only good thing about dinner? The reduction sauce. We ended up ordering dessert because he told us about a "lava cupcake" (my favorite). Guys, it was a COLD cupcake. Nothing more than a boxed cupcake from a refrigerator. Wtf is that?!! To top this all off I was SHOCKED the guy charged us for a corkage fee on our wine. I was a server for 8 years - I would NEVER charge a cork few if my table waited 30 minutes before I even came over to them!!!! This place is a joke. I'm actually upset about it being that lodi really needs more restaurants like this. Go buy yourself a costco steak and add salt and pepper and its 10x better than this. Also, get some damn help!! Visited last night after reading the glowing reviews on Yelp. I think this place is another victim of "grade inflation." While the service was very good, my dinner was not impressive. My wife tells me usually that her favorite restaurant is our kitchen because I'm a good cook. I noticed someone else posted a review about this place that you would be better off buying your steak at Costco and cooking it your self, and I agree. The NY steak I had was about 1/2 a level undercooked (medium rare instead of medium), a bit chewy, not super tasty, and definitely not at all tender (hint to Chef: let meat come to room temperature first before cooking, makes a WORLD of difference! Learned that trick from watching Emeril Lagasse, BTW). The red wine reduction was not very tasty - I've made better with little effort. The Cesar salad was a bit weird, did not seem like regular cesar dressing but something more like oil and vinegar, and was oily. The wine served tasted a little peaked to me. Now I could have asked for my steak to be cooked a little more but usually when I do this, they just ruin it anyway. I supposed I also could have asked for a different glass of wine but it just felt like too much trouble and my waitress was nice, and I just didn't feel like bursting her bubble after a long work day. For the price I was not impressed at all. Maybe some of their other dishes are better. In any event, I would probably try somewhere else next time I am in Lodi. read more

Had an awesome meal here tonight. The waiter was friendly and handled all the tables by himself with grace and ease. There was one chef in the tiniest of kitchens throwing down some bomb grub! Had the mushroom bisque and I'm not even into shrooms (bad experiencelol) but I loved it. Ordered the filet rare-medium rare and the waiter said "the chef knows what that means". It was served with a flavorful wine sauce and bleu cheese, and they paired wonderfully. And the filet was ONLY 15$! WHAT! Chocolate mousse for dessert hit the spot. The Zin Bistro definitely deserves 5 stars. This may not be a restaurant for everyone, and maybe not even a restaurant I would typically frequent, but nonetheless it was a great spot. Let me start off by saying it is such a small restaurant which I think really adds to the kind of exclusive and intimate environment. Zin Bistro appears to be going for a "higher end" feel and I will say the interior is very well decorated. So on to the food! I had a wedge salad which I loved! I highly recommend it. I also had the pork dish (I forget the exact name) with rice, capers, and green beans. Delicious! The only thing that night turn some away is the portion size. You may find yourself hitting up a McDonald's on the way home, but that's exactly what they're going for....high end food doesn't usually come in large portion sizes. My only other disappointment was the soda in a can (no fountain). Again, they specialize in fine wines so I understand, but soda is very important to me! But that should not effect my overall score of the service and food. Speaking of service...the staff is great! Extremely friendly and warm and welcoming.
