This salon was recommended to me by a friend and I was sooooo disappointed. I walked in and sat on the dog hair covered couch. Yes there was a dog in the salon. I didn't really have a problem with it but it seemed strange that a animal that would be prone to attracting fleas was being kept in a salon. There was only one other client in the salon but the floor was covered in other people's hair! After a short wait my stylist came out from the back reeking of cigarettes. Again I did not have a problem until she ran her smoky smelling hands through my hands with out washing them! While washing my hair she stopped several times to stick her fingers in her mouth, attempting to remove a lodged Jolly Rancher, and then continued washing. During the haircut she stopped several times to read and send text messages. She also said b**** and f***about 20 times while complaining to me about her previous client. After the cut my hair looked exactly the same. I was even greeted by my boss the next day who said, "I thought you were going to get a hair cut." Freida is my JAAAMMMM! I can't even remember the year I went to her, but it's been several years back, and she took me out of a hair disaster. I had been thru the ringer trying to dye my hair red, a subtle red, with a male stylist who was hitting on me, and since I did not accept his advances he destroyed my hair. Without going into detail, Frieda, my boo, saved the day. Brought me to a red I wanted. Then less than a year later, gave me the boost of confidence that I could chop my hair off, like I had been wanting to for so many years. My hair has been short and blonde for 4 years now, and I LOVE IT! It's been platinum, lavender, blue streaked, asymetrical, side shaved, and now, what I like to call...my Marilyn Monroe bob. People stop me to compliment me, and ask where i get my hair done. I've sent so many people t0 her, and would never hesitate to do so. Also, she lets me gossip her ear off EVERY time I'm there, serves me coffee or a draaaank, and let's me practice my crazy accents, when I'm studying for my various theatre characters. I can't say enough about ZigZag Salon. I have been a loyal client for 7 or 8 years, and I have never had anything but wonderful experiences there. Freida is my stylist & colorist, but Melody has also cut and colored my hair a few times over the years. I am asked all the time where I get my hair styled and colored, and I am happy to gush about the ladies at ZigZag. The vibe in the salon is so funky and fun. I feel like part of the family - the big, laughing, singing, fun family. I love all the ladies (& gent) at the salon, and I love it that there may be a dog or two around. It is so laid back, yet completely professional. Freida is the most talented colorist in the world, I'm sure. I never really go in with a "set" idea about what I want. There has never been a time in all of the 10+ years I have been going to Zig Zag that I haven't been thrilled when I walk out. I honestly feel like this is the salon I've been looking for in the past 10 years I've been highlighting my hair. The prices are more than reasonable, and the atmosphere is fantastic: completely unpretentious yet very professional. Jess is hilarious and did a fabulous and careful job on my highlights. No one was kissing butt the way they do in many "upscale" salons and no one tried to sell me their products or sneak in a deep-conditioning treatment for an extra $20. Wish i could tell you this place is great but think of it as the land of misfit hairstylists. Kind of dirty and unorganized,and the stylists have TOO MUCH EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE.
