I searched for quite a while to find someone who was able to properly care for my son's hair, and after researching and reading through lots of reviews for a multitude of places, I decided on Something Natural Hair - and I am so glad that I did! I've learned my lesson the hard way that not everyone who says they are familiar with natural hair care, actually are. My son has very thick low porosity hair and I really wanted to make sure he was set up with the best possible person who could trim the ends and give it a little extra TLC. Before scheduling, I reached out to LaTashia with photos to see if she was familiar with working with his hair type and she was really understanding, patient, and very helpful. -- I meant to write this review the same week of his appointment, but I blinked and a whole month went by! LaTashia took such good care of my son and was so gentle with him, that he fell asleep! He was so relaxed and it made me realize that even our children need little spa days sometimes. First I want to start off by saying the salon is gorgeous and LaTashia is a beautiful soul. My first visit I provided her with a honey blond picture of the look I wanted. I left paying $200 with a head full of red hair. I went back 2 weeks later for a correction and paid another $125, for a slight improvement. Still red hair. I would not recommend this salon for color, perhaps other services. I attempted calling, the salon, but it is impossible to reach anyone. The only way to communicate is via email with the owner or "the assistant". I let LaTashia know my dissatisfaction via email and she thanked me for letting her know. Very disappointed with the customer service!! You can not rely on la toshia to be on time or even keep your appointment at all. I've gone to this salon approximately three times and not once was she on time. The first time she was running late (I was the first 8 AM appointment on a Saturday), the second time she didn't have the keys to her own salon ( had to reschedule my whole appointment after driving all the way there) and the third time I got a text 3 hours before my appointment canceling it altogether! It's very unfortunate because I felt like she did cut my hair pretty well, but I will not be returning due to the poor customer service. read more

I do want to say that La Tashia is such a friendly stylist and her boutique is beautiful. My haircut and style were not what I requested though or showed on the picture numerous times upon request. My hair was cut too short and I had to add hair after my appointment to achieve the look that I wanted. It wouldn't have been so bad overall if I didn't have to go to another beauty supply store, install the hair, cut and style myself. She did say that I could come back but she had another appointment and I sounded like an inconvenience. This was by far the best natural hair stylist I've ever been to! I happen to look up natural hair salons via google at 10am on a Friday. Something Natural Salon popped up. I took a chance and called the number. Mrs. LaTashia picked up. And suddenly I had an appointment for 1 pm. On the way to the salon, the stylist was running late and texted me that she would be 10 minuets late. I texted her back "me too!" So thumbs up for that. When she arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised that she was also a natural who wore her hair natural; her hair looked great. I was only there for a consultation but as soon as I saw her hair I knew that I was going to entrust her with cutting mine. She took a look at my hair and combed it out a bit with a wide tooth comb starting from the ends - YEAH!! After evaluating the state of my hair, I asked her to go for it. She proceeded to wash, condition, and blow out my hair like a pro I've never seen. Then kicked off the hair surgery process. The trim was fantastic! I'm very pleased! I've been natural for 8 years. Its been a struggle trying to find a natural hair salon and or independent stylist within the Austin TX area as this is not a black hub. My history is that I would find a black hair salon that had one stylist with natural hair who normally wore it straightened out. And the idea was that since they were "natural", they knew how to work natural hair. They would only blow the crap out of it leaving the roots still kinky. Then rip your hair out with the comb chase method. Mrs. LaTashia is a legit professional with lots of advice for taking care of your hair. LaTashia was recommended to me by my sister when I first moved to Austin. I'd had the Big Chop and sworn off relaxers, but had no idea what to do with my short, natural hair. I went to see LaTashia when she was in another location and I can say it's been one of the best relationships I've had with a hairstylist. She's very professional and will work with you to get the styling that you want. She even recommends styles that you might never have thought of! She has experience in different natural stylings and has styled my hair from very short and curl, to beautiful dreadlocks. The ONLY reason I don't still have locs is because I made the mistake of going to SOMEONE ELSE for upkeep. That other girl (a so-called "loctician") screwed up my dreads so badly I had to take them out. Never again. If I decide to get dreads again, I'm going straight here. If you have natural Black hair and are looking for someone who is professional, experienced, and friendly, I STRONGLY recommend going to LaTashia at least once.
