Before I get into this post, I do want to say excellent service! The only issue I would say I had was having to come in 2 hours earlier & I have a breastfed 5 month old baby home that was kind of inconvenient for me since I scheduled this appointment a month and a half ago. The silk press & trim was $120. I feel like my services should've been at least $80 because, from my past experience, silk press comes with a steam and that softness and shininess. I got a wash, sat under the dryer, and a flat iron. Overall, my hair does feels great. Shamara sells her own products which is what I really liked the most! The vibe here is beautiful! Went to Shear Envy for my Brazilian Blowout and am super happy! Love love love it! Shamara was very cool, and fun to talk to, and the procedure was quick and painless. Plus I came out with silky smooth, awesome hair! The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars is because live WAY down south and the salon is WAY up north!! So far!!! Loved my Brazilian Blowout with Shamara! She is very warm & welcoming. My hair is fine, and gets frizzy at the drop of a hat, so this treatment makes such a huge difference. I struggled to get a comb through it & it was breaking off before, now it is so easy to style. I highly recommend it & Shamara! My hair feels so silky and even has body and no more frizz!! Alrighty, so this is an update to my original post. I did return to Shear Envy for my Brazilian Blowout-- and I'm glad I did! My poor hair was in sad shape, because I have an illness and my hair is fragile-- but the Brazilian Blowout made it shiny and many people complimented me on how healthy it looked after Shamara did her magic. I loved this place. The owner was super super nice. I had my little chihuahua with me and she let me bring it in. I was glad because I didn't want to leave her in the car. The owner was very attentive to making sure I felt at home (if the temperature was okay, if I needed to change the channel to the tv, if I would like a soda or wine to drink while she finished with my hair). Very nice lady. And quaint little place. I purchased a groupon for a brazilian blow out, which is why I came to check out the place in the 1st place. This was my first time doing a brazilian blow out (I have very thick long black hair). It was amazing. My hair was done so well, super silky, super smooth. 3 months later my hair is still looking good, but I'll probably need another bbo pretty soon. Very disappointed because I bought two groupons for brazilian blowouts - I used one right after i purchased it. My brazilian blowout went okay, however, I was disappointed that it seemed to grow out very qiuckly. Since then, I went to another hair stylist who did a Matrix relaxer on my hair - this has been a lot more successful. Since I didn't need the second brazilian blowout, I gave the 2nd groupon to my daughter. She called and tried to get an appointment, and could not get one before the groupon expired. It was as if Shamara didn't want to work with her. She wanted her to come in on a week day, but my daughter works at a school and could not come in during the week. As a result, the groupon expire - I guess I'm out $99. This was a very disappointing experience. read more

So I'm very late in writing this review but better late than never. I bought a Groupon for this service back in late 2011. It expired in May 2012 and I called at the last minute to get in. Shamara was able to get me in even after the expiration date as she didnt' have any availability beforehand. Shamara did a fantastic job on my hair! I have very long thick curly hair and never could have imagined how awesome it would look. I got TONS of compliments and referred all of my friends. I was amazed at how quick the whole process was (maybe 2 hours?) and the results were beyond my expectations. I would estimate that the blowout lasted about 3 months. Overall I couldn't have been more impressed. The experience was awesome! Can't wait to go back. read more

When I moved from Washington DC in 2009 I was in desparate need to find someone to take care of my hair. I found Shear Envy and Sha'mara and have followed her around Austin ever since! She is professional, resonably priced, and experienced. She makes my natural hair beautiful and I am always getting compliments on my styles. As another reviewer said, the location is pretty odd (right by a convenience store in a gas station, got late trying to find it). However the service beats any location drawbacks and the interior, while basic, is quite clean and nice. I too bought the Living Social deal for Brazilian Blowout and it's amazing how well my hair turned out. The stylist Shamara is very friendly and did a great job. She also trimmed my ends at no extra cost. Loved the free wi-fi in the salon. Will definitely be going back any time I'll be in the area. read more

DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR A BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT. I went by yelp reviews because people say they drive here from out of town, they get a better price, Shamara is professional, and guess what? They're all correct! I'm white, so you may think my hair is easy peasy but since I had kids some weird, funky kinks came in that don't fit with the rest of the growth patterns. Plus, my hair frizzes something awful in humidity. I got my first blowout in June 2015, a couple of months back, and just booked another for Sept. My hair was pretty flat-ish the first 10 days and I was starting to wonder if I really like it and then BAM it was suddenly like my old hair, but smoother, easier to manage, easier to dry. I do use Paul Mitchell heat seal plus the sulfate-free shampoo line Pureology on it to help it last. PS: it takes me roughly 1.5 hrs for the whole deal, start to finish, just so you know. read more

I love Shear Envy, Shamara, and her Brazilian blowouts so much that I drive from Dallas to get my hair done! I've been going to Shear Envy for 4+ years of which 3 of them I've lived in Dallas and make the trek down south to spend the best 90 minutes and $150 of my life on my hair. My hair dries faster, looks shinier, and feels healthier. I cannot live without a BB now! Shamara is so sweet, funny, flexible, and a true gem. I can text her my schedule as to when I'll be in Austin and she finds the way to fit me in. She's professional but also very personable. The salon is comfortable and easily accessible. The space is not the typical salon wherein you hear other conversations, blow dryers blaring all around, and/or rushed in and out. We like to watch TV and laugh at reality shows or talk about the cute new movie stars. I've had other BBs before but they've cost more, aren't as straight, and/or don't last as long. My first experience with Shear Envy was because of a Living Social deal for the Brazilian Blowout. I had been hesitant to invest so much in a treatment I hadn't had done before, but I will be back and happy to pay full price after my experience. Shamara was awesome...and so is my hair. As a mother of 3, I'm looking forward to not having to worry about straightening or even styling my hair for that matter for the next 2-3 months through the summer. I was on yelp looking for a stylist who had reasonable rates as well as knowledge and confidence to do my hair. First off, I was going natural with my hair but decided that it would be best for me to get my hair relaxed due to the career that I am in which requires me to keep it up all the time... I read all of the reviews on this salon as well as the comments Shamara the owner made in reference to some of the negative feedback that she received which I believe had more to do with other salons/stylists bashing her...but anyway, I had an appointment...Shamara saw me promptly as well as offering me some wine. She relaxed my hair as well as insured me that I would not have to stay under the dryer longer than needed(I can't stand sitting under the dryer)...Once she finished relaxing my hair, she educated me on the damage that I had. Not only did she try to salvage my hair by not cutting it completely off, but she also offered me a game plan as to how we were going to get it healthy again such as products, appointments that I needed to set up as well as reassuring me that we would work things out around my schedule and financially. Do your self a favor and don't go to this salon I went for a hair relaxer shamara worked on my hair, as soon as she applied the cream, my head started burning, she told me it's normal and it will go away as soon as she rinses my hair, but in few seconds I could not take it any more my hard was on fire so she rinsed it but the burning didn't go away ,second day my head was sore and full of scabs, the relaxer didn't work because it didn't stay long enough , I wish I never been there read more

I don't normally write reviews, especially bad ones, but I felt I should warn anyone who is considering having a Brazilian Blowout at this salon. I had mine in November by Shamara and had about 20% of my hair break off. I was suspicious of her techniques when she turned me around to face the television instead of the mirror, as this made it impossible for me to see what she was doing. She completed the entire process in a little over an hour, which was also disconcerting because I had read it would take around three hours to complete the process. As she was finishing the blow drying and flat ironing she parted the hair in the middle and I told her I part it on the side. Every time I tried to part it to that side she re-parted it in the middle. It wasn't until I got home and parted on my normal side that I noticed all of the broken hairs in my part. She was purposely parting it so that I wouldn't see the breakage. Now it's three months later and I'm still dealing with the grow out process from all the breakage. I just had a brazilian blowout from a different salon and the process took close to four hours. The stylist did an excellent job and I had no breakage. When I told her what happened the last time, she told me that it was mostly likely because Shamara turned up the heat on the flat iron to high in an attempt to shorten the amount of time it would take to do my hair. The temperature was too high and sizzled off my hair. It will be years before my broken hairs reach the length of the rest of my long hair. Save yourselves the trauma and go elsewhere for your Brazilian Blowout. read more

My mother purchased a brazilian blowout for me from living social. I was very excited as I have frizzy curly hair that I am constantly straightening. I just had it done today, but so far I love it. My hair is so much straighter than it has ever been before. The frizz is completely gone! If this even some what remains I will be extremely happy. It was a lovely experience getting my hair done. I've been going to Shamara for years and she does a great job. My biggest issue with stylist is having an appointment and having to wait for an extended period of time because they are running behind. Rarely do I have to wait at all and when I do it is usually just a few minutes. Also, there is free wifi which is great because I can connect and still work while getting my hair done. read more

I admit I am a deal jumper when it comes to Brazilian Blowouts...they are costly, even at $100, but so worth it. I usually get a couple a year in the warmer months, but when Shamara posted her last deal on LIving Social, I had a credit and jumped on it. Funny that it was raining last Wednesday when I went in, so it made it more worth it knowing I'd come out not looking like a fluff ball. Of the four stylists who have performed it on my hair, Shamara has definitely been the best. (One was overpriced, one left the solution in my hair which lead me to have to wash it out in the middle of the night, and one was a drama queen with masks and fans all over the place). Shamara has a great sense of humor and the time flies by with witty conversation as she does her magic. She charges $10 for a trim and even tapered my hair in the front and went back and fixed the trim when I discovered it was a little uneven. She said she is not doing the deals anymore, but even at $150, it's reasonable enough that I am pretty sure she will be doing my next one. Since I live way south, it's an excuse to sneak over to Ikea while I am up in Round Rock. :) read more

My beautiful wife went to work today while I worked from home. She told me she was going to get her hair done but not tell me any details. My wife has naturally curly hair and had decided to get a brazilian blowout. She had had this done one time before and it was a disappointment, to say the least. When my wife came home today after her appointment, I was floored! She got the blowout, a cut, and colored from her natural dark brown to a lovely copper/red.
