This place is terrible. The first time I was there there was an issue because they were not advertising cash only and when I wanted to use my card because I did not have enough cash it was an issue. We resolved it, but I should not of had to come back the next day to finish paying for my massage. The second time I got a good massage and the price was the same as the first. $95 for 90 minutes. The third time I went which was three months after the last she made my back look like this by using a three sided stick and going the opposite way of my blood flow breaking my capillaries. I did not ask for that, and I have never had that on any massage I've ever had. When I went to pay her she showed me a price list that showed $190 for 90 minutes that I could not originally see because it was hidden behind a Venmo sigh. Behind those were two other price lists with different prices. One was the price that I paid before. I ended up giving her what I assumed was the original price and a tip. I did not think she deserved a tip, but with the altercation and another customer in there I wanted to show that I paid for the service so that I did not get any legal troubles. Emily is amazing at her craft !! I've been battling a neck strain for almost a week. Made an appointment. I read the reviews and saw it's different from a usual spa, that it is deep tissue. When I walked in, emily asked me of any problem areas and what to focus on. I started a new workout routine so I was sore all over and have a neck strain. I asked her to go a little easier then her normal deep tissue and to focus on my neck area. I have never had a chinese deep tissue before so walking on my back was all new to me. It was awesome. It was the right amount of pressure. She used hot stones and really help relieve my neck issue. I felt super loose afterwards. I woke up the next day and my neck felt better. This place is amazing. I got a Thai and a deep tissue massage and the price was $70 and I ended up giving them a $30 tip. Cindy and Ashley went above and beyond. I was in a car accident back in December and broke my hip and even with the Thai Massage I wasn't scared. Such sweet and caring people there. I can't say enough about the place! I called to get a last minute appointment because I was suffering with serious pain in my right shoulder and arm. The initial phone convo is interesting because "Mary" speaks with somewhat limited English. She told me my husband and I would pay $160 total for both of our one hour massages. I said I thought it would be more like a dollar a minute and she told me, "I charge more because my name is Mary" I repeated it back to her, "because your name is Mary?" and laughed, to which she answered, "I charge more, I'm good" Well, she's right. Little Mary worked her ass off to remedy my very deeply pinched nerve. Don't let her size fool you, she was on me from minute one like a spider monkey using every part of the body that god gave her to work my mess of knots out. She did me right. Not only did she massage but she twisted, walked on me and stretched my body in ways I've not experienced in other massages. If you are looking for a froo froo candle light touch sesh skip this place. These practitioners are serious about adjusting and kneading. Mary is not a light touch- she is strong as can be and she knows how to release tension in the body. It is tough and intense but so so worth it for someone who really needs relief. These ladies are healers! Best and most unique massage I've had. I've been coming here for 4 months, about twice monthly due to pain in my shoulders which I believe is related to tight muscles, bad posture, neglect. Tina and Mary are top-notch (there are other therapist there but I have only seen these two). I feel as if they are interested and care about individual needs. Further, they seem to love what they do. Every massage is different but all incorporate deep tissue, Thai(stretches), pressure points, and ashiatsu (walking on). This is not your "average" american massage/spa. It's a small, basic, and to-the-point kind of place. I'm not much for the fu-fu places - function over fu-fu! I don't know why a reviewer said it was "dirty," it's clean, warm, cozy, and inviting. I can make an appointment the same day. If you like more gentle massage I think you should request that, otherwise they are going to work on you good. I'm trying to work out kinks in my body so this is what I prefer. When they massage the pain in my shoulders it is extremely painful, but it's always painful, so I expect that and just breath deep and try to focus. However, they are gentle, ensure I am okay and will stop if needed. Mary says my shoulders are full of knots and very tight and it will get better in time. No massage therapist in my past would touch those areas or seemed interested in dealing with it. I have noticed less pain, overall, if I'm caring for myself in between massages. The work they do feels right. They spend a lot of time around your spine, pushing muscles away. I carry a ton of stress (in my back) and have anxiety so I feel great when I leave this place. The majority of my running routes have involved passing by Zhang's Relaxation Centre. I've been tempted to try them for a very long time - I love massages! - but I didn't see many reviews on this business so I hesitated. However with their new location perched on a slight hill at the intersection of Ellsworth and Spahr I could ignore them no longer esp after seeing Brian S and Kim Y's reviews (see Zhang's Relaxation Centre old location listing): * I walked to Zhang's Relaxation Centre but you would have to find street parking if driving. I also don't think an appointment is necessary. * The entrance is narrow/small and you enter the door that says "Open" (there are two doors to the building on the front). * You pay essentially a dollar per minute in thirty minute increments (30, 60, 90). I picked 60 mins and was asked what area I wanted my massage to be focused on. My massage was not done by Mary but her colleague who didn't speak much during my time there but was friendly. * The room was clean and basic however I wasn't sure where to put my belongings so I put them on the floor. You are advised to strip down and have underwear. I was also just finished undressing when my masseuse popped her head in to cover me with a towel. And the walls are thin - I could hear the train go by over the music and I could hear the other customer who came in - this did not bother me as I knew what to expect and zoned it all out. There is a sheer curtain and a sliding door to the room. * The massage was fantastic and I've never had anything like this - it was a combination of deep tissue, hot stone and thai (lots of stretching and thank goodness I have been practicing yoga!). I also think they had put tiger balm on my back as it had a nice tingling sensation at one point. Note: if you are looking for a soft Swedish massage or if you are modest this may not be for you (maybe upon request?) because they work you and there is definitely pressure applied but it felt very nice afterwards. There's also a full length mirror where your head is. Tissues and towers are also used throughout and won't be fully covering you; and they will get your lower, lower back. * Cash only (there's a PNC ATM couple of stores down in the plaza with the laundromat) and a small bottle of water is given after. My friend rec'd this place to me as a good, intense massage and I'm glad I listened! Easily the most intense massage I've ever received and at a great price. I got a 60 minute session for $60 and she gave a great session. If you don't like intense pressure this is not for you, but it was just what my neck and shoulders needed. This is the filthest place I have ever been to. Between the dirt bedding and the unnerving gum chewing at the onset of a massage, it's not worth it. The message areas are being dirty curtains (no doors) and the massage table itself is not a traditional massage table. The owner is unscrupulous and makes you pay for the massage before they start. When I went in and tried to get a massage I paid but didn't realize how nasty this place was and only getting less than 5 minutes of a massage the owner refused to return any portion of my money. This place is disgusting and I wouldn't recommend this place no matter how desperate you are for a massage. This place would get no stars from me, but I had to put one to even post this. read more
