There is one or 2 issues I have. 1. its not a full hour. they take off 10 minutes to undress. 2. they lost some great employees and there are a few great ones left........if you can get an appointment. Charge a little more and give us 1 full hour..... front desk is ok. When I started 6 years ago it was great.... not so great anymore. Just average for the price of membership. I'm very upset about the membership. The massage and facial staff are good; however, the membership policy feels like a scam. For context, I've been a member for 3+ years. I like the idea of the membership, as it allows you to set aside money for your health on a regular basis each month. However, over the past year, I've been very busy with work, additional schooling, etc. I now have 12.5 sessions saved (12.5 x $65/month = $812.50). It seems a bit excessive to me to keep spending $65 a month, when I can barely make time for the sessions (and having 12 months worth of services!). I called the front desk and they gave me four options: 1. Cancel with 60 days to use all services 2. Give to someone else with a $10 additional service fee 3. Charge an extra $10 a month, so I don't have to pay for the $65 (with nothing in return, but being to access the services) 4. Freeze services and not be able to access any of the $812.50 of services that I've paid for) This could have been a stellar user experience, "hey we see you got behind on your services, we'll give ya six months to catch up, then we'll re-evaluate." This is what you should do for a your potential lifetime customer. Instead, now, all I want to do is hurry up and use the services so I can cancel. I can not image that they are doing to this to people who may actually have issues paying the $65 a month. This program isn't about health and well-being. I wanted to find a good salon to start going to regularly and figured I'd try Massage Envy since they have many locations around Pittsburgh. I scheduled online using their website, which gave me a lot of options to customize my massage which was really nice. I got the salon about 15 minutes early to confirm/fill-out massage specifics again on an iPad in the waiting room and then I was placed in the "Quiet Zone" to wait for my therapist. I was scheduled for a 3:30p 60 min massage. When we got to the room it was 3:33. I was asked if there was anything specific to focus on during the massage and to get undressed. (Wouldn't my therapist know based on the 2 comprehensive forms I've filled out?) Time continues to tick before my massage actually gets started... I got into the freezing cold bed (who doesn't have heated beds???) and he came in and began the massage with freezing cold hands! If the massage would have been good, I probably could have overlooked these things, but it just wasn't great. DEFINITELY not a $95 massage - luckily I got the intro price of $65 but still "UGH" not worth it :( I would consider this experience a $25 massage that I would likely pass up on if given the chance. Also, I was told the massage was over and he'd be waiting for me outside the room. It was 4:24. (There was a large digital clock in the room). Overall, very disappointing. read more

Ben is my favorite! He's thorough and competent. He doesn't talk too much and is a great Massage Therapist. The front desk staff remember your name, so it's like a family and I appreciate the willingness to work with my crazy schedule. You do need to book ahead so that part can be tricky but I always look forward to my time here. I can turn off and just chill. Went back. My original Masseuse is named James (sorry James) once again, he was mind blowingly amazing. I did the aroma therapy massage and it was delicious. I am so happy I got the membership. If you want a good massage, go to Massage Envy. Oh, for those who say it's rushed, I'd recommend getting a weekday, mid afternoon appointment (between 11a-3p). They are pretty slow and aren't as rushed as the weekend ones. The ONLY downside is that this time I heard everyone moving outside the room. It was like they were stomping and it was a little distracting, but it settled pretty quick and soon it was silence. Great place, great people, will be going back on a biweekly basis. read more

I've been a member here since 2015, and it's generally been a good experience. The price has increased a few dollars each year (~$6 since I joined) but remains competitive among other massage therapy places in the area. Street parking is usually not too hard to find. The front desk staff is usually very nice about getting you checked in and ready to go for your appointment. The waiting room is usually clean and calm, and has a selection of water and tea to drink while you wait. Because of the layout of the facility, you can sometimes overhear other customers and therapists in your massage room, but it generally doesn't bother me. It is sometimes a pain to book, because they only allow scheduling over the phone and hold times can take forever. You usually have to schedule a few weeks out if you're looking for a specific person and/or a specific time. I have had one or two instances where I tried a new person and requested lots of pressure and the therapist did not meet my expectations, but management is good about addressing issues and following up to underwhelming massages. I have been working with Ben for over a year and he is the BEST. He deserves 10 stars. I have a lot of tension in my shoulders and neck and he always finds the right spots to provide me with relief. He is great at finding places I didn't even know I could hold tension either, and he is the only massage therapist I have had where I actually enjoy carrying on a conversation. Let's start off with some positivity: Friendly front desk staff. Clean and orderly product display. They seem to go over exactly what you want in a massage. Now the not so positive (which is important in a massage environment): I didn't enjoy my massage. I asked for medium pressure and it was definitely on the light side. I didn't walk out feeling "relaxed" when I usually do. The sugar foot scrub add on takes times away from your massage, which for extra money, should not take away time, but give the extra 5-10 minutes just for that service. As I'm sure most people are aware, they offer a monthly service/subscription for a fee. read more

I have had my fair share of visiting Message Envy's in my hometown, so this was my first visit to a Pittsburgh location and I was truly disappointed with this establishment. The minute I set foot into their offices, I was pounced on with myriads of irrelevant questions about my schedule and work location and profession (aside from the health and history, which I completely understand due to precaution and safety reasons.) However, once they began to ask how many times I'd wish to have a massage in a month, I jokingly said I would love to have it weekly because who wouldn't?! Well, they took that as a welcoming to have every one of their employees I met (4 for me) to harass me with membership benefit information which I told was not needed from the start. As previously mentioned, I have been to many Massage Envy locations, so I think that I'd be a member by now if I chose to. It was awkward to have to give the same explanation as to why I DON'T want to be a member to each of them when they were all 2 feet away from each other every time I was approached. I've never had this problem at any other location and it is truly a deal breaker when they have to do this before and after your massage. Overall, the experience was uncomfortable and their sales tactic was extremely ridiculous. The masseuse shouldn't have to talk to me how great their membership program during the last 5 minutes of relaxation the clients pay for. I came here for my first massage. Wasn't really sure what to expect but I was pleasantly pleased with Massage Envy. Jenny was my masseuse and took great care of me. I didn't feel exposed or like I was being molested. She helped me get some of the kinks out and didn't talk throughout the massage. I'm a person that would prefer to lie there in silence. There was some calming music and the room was dark but not too dark. The room temperature was perfect and after the massage I felt like I was dreaming. It was great. The receptionists were nice. Brad has the hands of God. Through a friend's recommendation, I booked in to see Brad at Massage Envy. He was brilliant! I requested a deep tissue massage and he did an amazing job. As he moves around the table, Brad keeps one hand on you so you know where he is. The membership program is great so that you can take time for yourself every month to get a massage. Due to Covid I couldn't use the program for about a year, but I continued to pay the fee. I spoke to Rebecca Miller the manager in the Squirrel Hill office and she was great. I really did enjoy myself there and they even gave me a secondary introduction rate massage. Instead of doing hot stone I choose a swedish massage with a cheaper price tag. Something about massage envy just rubs me the wrong way. However I will continue to go if I get gift certificates but I woudn't like to spend my own cash lol. I was pulled in again by Massage Envy's ability to see me at a moment's notice. I love that convenience since I so often make snap decisions like that. While sitting in the waiting room I went to check in on Yelp and noticed a 10$ off an aromatherapy massage. Seeing as how I was there for an hour massage anyway and aromatherapy is $15 for non members, I added it. (Thanks, Yelp and Massage Envy!!) The receptionist was very informative and friendly. I met my massage therapist for the day, Anne. She was very polite although I could tell from the onset that she was very pressed for time. That's one of the things with chains like this. The therapist are booked very tight in their schedule on the weekend. I talked briefly with her about my problem areas and the amount of pressure I wanted (very firm/deep) and she left so I could disrobe. The massage was 50 minutes (which btw most larger massage chains do provide, as a rule of thumb 1 hour = 50 minutes plus 10 minutes to discuss problem areas dress/undress) and she used really deep pressure like I asked. My only real complaint, it was apparent she was rushed. I don't like that feeling. Anyone who knows even a little bit about the energy you give off as a human knows you can feel that without a doubt. It made it harder to relax. Caitlin at the front desk did such a great job talking up the membership to someone else while I was waiting that I actually finally joined as a member. $49/month for a year that gets me an hour massage every month (if you don't use it, it rolls to the next month!), member prices on amazing stuff like 1.5 hr and 2 hr massages, facials, and member prices for friends and family. While I don't know if I've found my therapist of choice, I'm stoked about monthly massages. read more

I find the prices reasonable; although I must admit I'm a little turned off by the "system"; the therapists there really need that $15-$20 tip to make it work, I wish they'd just charge everyone $15-$20 more and have a no-tipping policy. I always tip fairly, but I don't like the way it's so in your face. That's basically why they don't get five stars; but in the long run, it's really about your therapist, and while it may take a few visits to find one who works for you, once you do, it's a really great experience. read more

Massage Envy is an odd sort of chain. It's a massage chain. I have been twice and found both times with two different people to be just fine. I got a sports massage and I don't see what makes them special but I found them to be well done and the staff are competent. It really is a chain place though and you know what you are getting. I'm not looking to be buddies with my massage therapist so it works for me. Some folks won't like that. I like that the place is clean, professional and the staff are always pleasant. I had a gift card for here, so hey....free massage! I've had tons of amazing massages in my day, and given that this is a chain place, I didn't have high expectations. But again....free massage! And I have to say, I actually had a better experience than I was thinking I'd have. Everything here (the lobby, tranquility room, massage room, and bathroom) was very clean and decorated beautifully. When I walked in, I was warmly greeted by a sales associate, who had me fill out some forms. Afterwards he talked to me a little about my massage preferences (why I want to get them, how often, etc.). I think this is to help them tailor their sales pitch better to you. My massage itself was done by Gina. She was pretty good. It wasn't the best massage I've ever had, but her pressure and technique were decent. The room was very quiet...I couldn't tell that I was only a stone's throw from busy, loud Forbes Ave, which was nice and relaxing. The only annoying thing was that it was a hot day, and the room I was in was crazy warm. They massage you under a sheet and a blanket, and I asked if I could take the blanket off, but she said they ("they", I presume, is corporate Massage Envy) don't allow them to do that (seems odd to me, as I've never been massaged under anything but a sheet). But she did allow me to stick my feet out of the blanket, and she unplugged the table warmer to try to make me cooler, which I appreciated. The other slightly annoying thing was that my massage was only 45 mins, when I was expecting it to be 50. But oh well. After the massage they do talk to you about their monthly massage membership program. But I didn't feel like they were pushy or overbearing about it, which was good. And in fact, if it was slightly cheaper, I might've even considered joining. Overall, for a chain massage place, I'd say it was a decent experience. read more

Let me start by explaining my stress levels from my job which bleed over into body. I take care of people for a living, homeless very mentally ill people. I manage every aspect of and detail of their healthcare, housing, health insurance and transportation. I'm emailing, talking on the cell, driving and for about an hour to two a day stuck at a desk with a poor office chair and crooked shoulders. I also am a highly active person but I'm better at fitting in my daily exercises and runs and weight lifting then I am at stretching out my tired muscles. All of this results in some pretty knarly tight muscles and or knots in my shoulders and neck. I am not the easiest to please when it comes to massages. I need. A combination of high firmness and pressure, large hands and a person who can read where I'm holding back on letting go during the massage. I'm so used to doing for others I have a hard time letting others do for me. I can honestly say my masseuse Mark nailed it on the first massage for me. but communication, being able to relax and physically let go, and accepting that you are not at the Las Vegas Mirage will make for a better experience for you at Massage envy. Yes you're getting a massage in a little box of a room, close your eyes, yes they charge for every little product, and they try to get you to buy a membership. Be firm with what you want with front desk staff. They are trying to make money and massages at a high end spa cost 100$ plus. I'm grateful for the membership because I can afford to tip my masseuse decently and honestly it's hard physical work. My body is not 100% firm or soft it's definitely in between but regardless of where I'm holding pain and stress I can tell Mark and he will try to get it out each time. Next to my gym membership this is the best thing I've done for myself... They have recently remodeled which is good they have a tiny tea station but the water is Luke warm. To improve they could add a hot face towel at the end of massages, and fix the beverage station so it has hotter water, better selection of tea, coffee, and cold water as well. I have had no problems with scheduling or front desk staff. Do show up on time or a little early to get the full time of your massage. though they have always given me ample time to dress / undress which has not deducted from my massage hour. read more

BEN IS AMAZING! I have had about 5-7 different massage envy masseuses and Ben has been far the best. I run marathons and have been getting massages monthly until last 3 months when I had stopped making appointments. I had been having trouble areas in both of R/L glutes (piriformis flare up?).....not being thoroughly worked out or addressed during the appointments. Ben was recommended to me since he had worked with athletes. He is the first person at Massage Envy that did a firm/hard pressure that has helped me feel so much better the next day!! He talked me through some of the harder pressure points he worked out (helped me not focus on the tightness). I actually feel like he addressed my problem areas. My boyfriend scheduled me a 1hr massage for my birthday since I complain about back pain due to my office profession and sitting at my desk at home. When I went I specifically told my therapist I wanted to focus on my upper back and shoulders. She did not pay any attention to this and spent the 50m rubbing lotion all over me. I scheduled a facial about two weeks in advance, and it was canceled by the facility the day of. I rescheduled for the following morning (with no discount, even though I had to provide a credit card number at booking so that the facility could charge me full price if I cancelled day of). When I arrived 15 minutes early as requested, the facility seemed to have just opened and the reception area was a bit chaotic. The treatment room was not welcoming (so cold I had goosebumps), the products were harsh and inexpertly applied (the esthetician got glycolic acid exfoliator in my eye, didn't fully wipe all the product off of my face at the end of the service, and got lots of product in my hair because she couldn't figure out how to fasten the terrycloth headband), the massage portion was short, strange (arms and hands only, no neck and shoulders) and poorly done, and the whole treatment, which was supposed to be a 60 minute facial, took less than 45 minutes including consultation. I am so confused about the negative reviews here and wouldn't have even bothered to put up a review--but since I've been going here pretty regularly for 4-years, I felt like I had to say something. Yes, Massage Envy works in a weird way in that they slightly under-charge you upfront for a massage and essentially pray that you will be a good-tipper to the therapist--that's how they get people in the door, and I don't fault them for it! Come on, people, you are getting what would be at least 1.5x the price (if not more) elsewhere, and the trade-off is that you should do what's right anyway and tip your therapist appropriately? I'll take it. Most places 1-hr massages are upwards of $75, and even with the increased price you still have to tip your therapist. With ME's membership, I can even get an extra massage at month at $39. To be completely fair, I will agree that the $49 rate for a 50-minute massage actually makes the rate equivalent to many other places, but the convenience of getting in at last minute's notice, etc is worth it to me. The 50-minute thing (instead of a full hour) used to tick me off quite a bit because I haven't been to any other place that does this, but I think over time I've just come to accept it as a part of their lower cost; and I will say that this policy really does allow them to stick to starting pretty much on time for all their clients (which I really appreciate). That general comment on their practices aside, I've seriously had no complaints about this location--the staff members at the front desk are cheery (though the turnover rate has surprised me and I've lost several of my favorites), and they've never been anything but courteous & accommodating. Regarding the massages: seriously, when I was first trying to figure out the best-fit therapist for me, I must have tried out at least 8 therapists! From that many, I only didn't like 1 massage, and I regularly see about 3 of their therapists (since my schedule is all over the place, I can't just stick with one person). I always get deep-tissue, and I disagree with one of the previous posts that says they don't have many/good deep-tissue therapists--my favorites: neck/back: Julie, Miyumi; full-body: Monica, Jaime; trigger-point: Ashley--and all these people do good deep-tissue work (and believe me, I like it deeeep!) For all those strongly worded posts about them selling their membership: Yes, there is a lot of potential for having to hear a long sales-pitch after your first massage...but the Membership is what their entire business model is based on, so if you know and understand this before you go in, you can politely decline. read more

I asked for deeper swedish and he gives me some shiatsu and myofacial work which I never asked for. The two stars are simply for the the front desk's cheerfulness and willingness to work with you on scheduling. I love massages and have them frequently, and I've always wanted to try this place - mostly because of its location. Not worth the money, not worth the times I checked in to see if there was a spot for me. The masseuse was lovely and quite personable, but not actually good at massage. In addition, I specifically requested areas be worked on and they weren't. I was shocked, as well, at the fact that a half hour massage (42$) was not actually a half hour - it was more like a little less than 20 minutes by the time they talked to you, gave you a whole bunch of time to get situated, etc. Usually studios build those times in and don't charge you for them. (Yeah yeah, 'the food was so bad, and the portions were so small...' I'm not sure whether an extra ten minutes might have helped...) In addition, let me say this: NO I DON'T WANT A MEMBERSHIP, OKAY?! I certainly don't want to TALK ABOUT THE MEMBERSHIP WHILE I AM RECEIVING MY SHODDY AND OVERPRICED MASSAGE. read more

Well I was very excited to receive a $100 giftcard to Massage Envy for Christmas. I booked an hour long massage followed by an hour long facial at my nearest Massage Envy (which happened to be Squirrel Hill). I was greeted at the door by a very nice gentlemen who asked me to take a seat while he explained what exactly to expect. The massage was great. My masseuse was great, applying just the right amount of pressure and adjusting the cold room as I asked him. My only complaint would be that they use TONS of lotion that smells horrible. It was some kind of orange citris crap in a bottle, but to each their own. So I said nothing. Next, my facial went great. She took the time to assess my skin and gave what she thought would be the best ingredients for me. I was so impressed with her knowledge that I spent $50 on a cream she recommended prior to leaving. My measly three stars come from the receptionist, Kathryn, as I payed. She took both of my giftcards, calculated what my total came to, and decided that what was left over would be sufficient for a tip. Now, I'm no light tipper. I always give 20% for great service. More if they went beyond their duty. However, she decided, without asking me, that I will give about a 30% tip to each the masseur and the esthetician. Then I would just pay for my cream seperately. After I gracefully said I would rather just give a 20% tip to each she actually ARGUED with me. I dont' mean a snide remark, but an actual argument about that wasn't enough. The other receptionist was actually noticebly embarassed and uncomfortable. I have never been anywhere that has forced someone to tip whatever they feel suitable. As if the fifteen signs in the wating area and the friendly calculation for you at the desk isn't enough to let you know that tipping is encouraged, I don't need a receptionist forcing it down my throat. Spencer is pretty awesome. Initially as a woman I felt sort of weird having a guy do my massage, but it was amazing how nice it was to have someone who didn't try to talk the entire time.
