Popped by for a little something whilst visiting the beach, firstly the ambience in Cronulla town was slightly lacking in vibe, but the northern end of the beach and town seems to be where the quirky brunch spots are, so head that way to find Zeus - for some rather average creations within the basic Greek cuisine parameters - there's nothing ground breaking here, including the presentation, which had just been plonked together on a plate.
We had the (gf) calamari with aioli, the batter was light and crispy - and it's always a novelty to order crispy calamari which is gluten free and great that they cater for intolerance on some of their dishes - but the taste of the oil even after squeezing lemon over and dunking it in the aioli was apparent, whilst the calamari itself was, well, almost missing... I've never had such small squid; thin slices and small circles. Questionable.
The salad of Greek feta, green beans, figs, mint and nuts with a balsamic and olive oil dressing was a bowl of long green beans garnished with a single mint leaf, which had reservedly been torn up, a few sprinkled nuts and an indelicate block of feta on top, if you were lucky you find one of a few pieces of baked or rehydrated fig.. I'd go as far as to say they may have used a whole half of one in this dish.
The place itself is nice enough in decor, the staff were truly pleasant and welcoming - kudos. But the music was something out of an epic RnB film, full of tough but torn up souls whaling their way through your lunch... please for the love of Greek God Zeus reconsider this for some good Rock music or something genuinely Greek. read more
