Located a few seconds from the Beach, in Brighton Le-sands, the Hellenic is the lastest taste of Greece to have hit our taste buds, and probably one of the best things that's ever happened to Bay Street.. in my humble opinion.
When you combine two great things like envelopes, and wheat, you get the Pita bread. The Hellenic offers the very best in Greek street food, without compromising your budget.
Despite it being a order at the counter, kind of place, the service and the staff are fantastic, the wraps are cooked right in-front of your eyes, on a large burner behind the counter, with all their fresh ingredients laid out for you to see, which affords the place that fresh street-food vibe.
They also stock a wide range of greek sodas, I recommend you avoid the grape juice flavoured soda which I ordered, as it only ends up tasting like carbonated prune juice.. unless of course, that's your thing (eeeeeeek!). Luckily for me, my pita was flavoursome enough to overpower that foul prune juice after-taste.
I ordered the the Kalamaras ($8.90); which is a thick pita delightfully packed with lightly grilled Haloumi, Spanish onion, tomato and chips, as well as a generous dollop of tzatziki (I could write a whole review on how deliciously creamy the Tzatziki was, with it's strong kick of garlic). My partner ordered the Baba Yianni - lamb pita ($8.90), which he equally raved about in terms of flavours and how well they worked together.
I could not recommend this place enough, it's a real treat for Vegetarians and meat-eaters alike! read more
