My main was a charcoal grilled whole snapper (fish of the day at market prices) served with hand cut chips, a jug of lemon butter sauce and a small Greek salad. The fish was perfectly grilled and beautifully moist inside. The chips were the real deal - no frozen crap here. The lemon butter had a pinch of herbs and was perfect with the fish. The salad was fresh and crisp and complimented the meal. Desserts drift from Greek standards but are nevertheless delicious. Their tiramisu was light (a good size serve) and their "profiterole" was nothing of the sort- lady fingers biscuits with cream and chocolate mousse topped with fresh strawberries. All the food here is delicious and in true Greek style, huge portions and great value for money. On my visit, the owner Harry made us feel very welcomed. He spent time ensuring we chose the best dishes and even gave us some great foodie tips on where to eat in Mykonos. Great value for money is the Kondosouvli (Spit Roast) Platter for two $62.90 You have a choice of lamb, pork or chicken( or all three if you desire), served with salad, 2 dips, pita bread and chips. This platter is so huge that it can easily serve three people comfortably. I love a Mousaka and this one is freshly baked in the oven! Delicious with a good serve of Greek Salad. We finished our meal with the Greek desserts Bougatsa and Loukoumades. The atmosphere is very Greek - layback, happy and casual. No need to rush away here. Steki has been around for donkey's years and for good reason: they serve some of the consistently best Greek food in the Big Smoke. The Newtown location is admittedly a bit of a pain to get to, as in fact almost all locations along the frenetic King Street. That said, once you make it into the premises it is a pleasant and sedate atmosphere. The staff are friendly and outgoing, without being too boisterous or invasive. The real draw is the food. Almost everything they serve is first-rate. I am particularly a fan of their taramoussalata. I think they'll do a skordalia at certain times, too. All of the starters are great, but I would recommend the octopus or the bekri mezze. The mains are equally good, but the lamb (of course!) and the makaronada (seafood pasta) are personal faves. They also have a number of potent potables. I usually opt for something from the Margaret River or SA, but my Greek buddy always goes for the retsina (I can't say I am a fan, but admittedly retsina is an acquired taste and he assures me it's very good here). Some nights have live music, but somehow I have always missed those and after COVID, I don't know what the protocol is. Either way, Steki is definitely worth a try. Hopa!

The dips are tasty with lots of garlic and warm pita to scoop it up. Don't go overboard though because the haloumi served with tomato and lemon is to die for, as is the superbly cooked calamari and cheese and spinach triangles. For a main you can't go past the slow baked lamb, which literally melts in your mouth and has a rich salty flavour best eaten with liberal amounts of lemon. It is served with potatoes and should definitely be accompanied by a big Greek salad which has a generous slab of feta. The baked lamb is my favourite but I have also tried the veal kefalograviera (rich with tomato and cheese) as well as the vegetarian moussaka and the souvlaki. Steki is licenced so be prepared to buy wine, and then drink it in small tumblers. The atmosphere of Steki is sensational, with a band on a Friday and Saturday night playing Greek favourites, with space to get up and have a dance. After a bottle of wine I am in there with the regulars laughing hysterically... Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. If you don't order wine it can be quite a cheap meal if sharing, as portions are generous.

We were famished and some eateries we visited were fully booked for the night (mind you it was Saturday night). "I know a place that wouldn't turn us away," my husband suggested. From a distance we could see people lining up to order. We were lucky to get a table as the place isn't big, grabbed a menu and proceed to order at the counter. Service was quick, within minutes of ordering we have our food served at our table. The menu is simple. You can have Pita Wraps where you choose the meat and filling, Naked Meats (pita-less) or if you're indecisive get the whole lot with Hercules Platter. Also some selection of sides, desserts and kids menu. I had their pita wrap with Lamb Kleftiko (11 hours slow cooked lamb) and Argo filling (double baked truss tomato, white taramosalata or fish roe dip, pickled onion and chips). The lamb was falling apart tender and the filling was tasty. We also had Pork Belly Stix from the naked meats menu and they were seasoned well. Good food shouldn't be complicated. Stix and Pita is just that, simple Greek street food made exciting!

Say whaa? As a committed dumpling fiend of some repute I thought I knew every dumper ever made. But chicken momo? Gimme. Chicken was succulent, and slathered in a tomato relish that tasted of mild, fragrant curry the damn things were a taste sensation. I got 6. Then another 6. Since then I've been seeing O!Momo pop up all over the place, from Newtown Festival to Field Day in the Domain to it's latest incarnation in the courtyard of World Bar in King's Cross dishing out puffed rice salads and char-grilled skewers to hungry punters. And I met Bunny, the owner, a native Nepali fluent in more languages than I'll ever speak in my lifetime. Dudes like Bunny are part of the reason I love small businesses . . . he's super chilled out and intensely pro-human, as happy as he is dishing up deliciousness as he is hanging out with customers chatting about philosophy, festivals and traveling. Now all I have to do is get over to Nepal. It's on the bucket list. It's been there for ages. One of these days.... !

You see, I don't eat pork. I don't eat seafood. I only eat chicken and vegetarian stuff- oh but did I mention I don't eat mushrooms either? Typical dumpling restaurants serve bland vegetarian options that require a bucketload of sauce to even taste remotely interesting and half the time when I order chicken they are "out of them" and that's if I can even find chicken on the menu! My point here? Dumplings and me usually don't have a great relationship. So I was quite curious to see what a Nepalese dumpling tastes like. I got to try these little beauties for the first time at the Yelp '80s party and this may be a big claim but the chicken dumpling is probably the best I've ever tried. Unlike the typical Asian dumplings I am accustomed to- these were not average. The tomato relish and coriander was tasty accompaniment and a welcome surprise for my picky taste buds. Can't say I was a fan of the puffed rice salad and the vegetarian dumplings were more similar to the standard dumplings I'm used to- but that chicken one? I'd hunt this place down just for that alone.
