    Zen Sushi - Boca Raton
    Jo H.

It was a nice Saturday evening, and what better way to spend my day off than with some hot wonton soup and delicious sushi. Zen Sushi is a modern Japanese restaurant that specializes in: * Traditional Japanese dishes * Chinese & Thai cuisine * Variety of sushi & sashimi, sushi boats, maki-rolls, cucumber wraps * Dim sum dumplings, soups & salads * Sake, specialty cocktails, beer, wine, drinks * Cold and hot appetizers, desserts The restaurant is large and spacious, with plenty of indoor/outdoor seating overlooking the bar area, sushi area, and open kitchen. Once greeted by the hostess, I was quickly taken to my seat at an available table. After browsing the menu, I placed my order for a cup of hot green tea and wonton soup. The wonton soup was truly enjoyable, consisting of tender chicken pieces, tasty chicken dumplings, bean sprouts, and scallions, all in a rich, flavorful broth. The green tea was hot and soothing. I had no intention of drinking, but I decided to order a lychee martini just because I felt like it. I could smell the aroma of the lychee fruit as the drink was placed in front of me. The drink was sweet and had a strong taste of vodka, but it was delicious nonetheless. While sipping on my drink, I awaited my order of Naruto Maki cucumber wrap. Fresh imitation krab and avocado wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber provided a refreshing crispness that was quite enjoyable. The cucumber wrap was served on a bed of salad with a side of sweet miso sauce for dipping. Well, that does it for me; I am full. Food was freshly prepared and was delightful, drinks was tasty, and service was satisfactory. The prices are moderate, but are worth it for the quality and quantity provided. I am looking forward to coming back to try other dishes.

This place was just OK. The sushi was good, but not the greatest. It was so LOUD with a bunch of drunk screeching ladies. Auric was our server and was not the greatest, he basically forgot about us and we had to flag him down. We were sitting at the sushi bar area and the man making the sushi gave us a tuna tartar appetizer which as sweet. He took better care of us than the server, so we gave him most of the tip. All in all just ok and I probably won't be rushing back to go again, with all the great sushi restaurants in the area.

Popped in for a quick lunch and our waiter was great, lots of options whether you wanted sushi or stir fry, comes with soda and soup. Huge menu, nice vibe, reasonably priced. Located in uptown Boca next to burgerfi and Sloan's ice cream

An incredible sashimi boat from chef Yozo San, as usual! Having fed us for close to three decades, the freshest selections of exotic Japanese fished combined with exceptional knife skills keeps bring us to Yozo Natsui's table. Well done chef!

Came recently to meet a friend who was visiting from out of town. It was a Monday, 6:30pm, and noticed they had HH specials at the bar until 7pm, so sat there. Immediately I was brought a menu, and was told about the HH deal, including some bites. We started with the edamame and the pork gyozas, plus drinks. We kept talking, without noticing the time, and our server was really nice asking us if we would like one more drink before HH was over so we could take advantage of the deal. After this, she kept checking up on us but at no point rushing us to place any other order. When we were ready we placed our meal orders. We loved the gyozas so my friend had a roll and a second serving of them as her meal. for some reason her sushi took a while, longer than my hot meal, but at the end it was delivered and she enjoyed it. I went with the Massaman Curry. Big portion, with a side of white rice. The chicken was tender, and the curry itself was delicious. Wish it had a bit of kick to it, but maybe good that way for more people to order it and add spice on the side. I saw so many other dishes served around us I want to go back and try, so you'll see me back again.

I have seen mixed reviews for this restaurant, but if I had not seen those reviews and after eating there, I would totally disagree. When I arrived at the restaurant around 6:45 PM, I noticed that there were people eating at the bar which is open to the sidewalk. On the inside of the restaurant, you can observe the sushi chefs, as well as the opening to the Kitchen. We ordered various types of hand rolls, as well as the sashimi appetizer. To our surprise, everything was extremely fresh and delicious and the salmon melted in my mouth. I also ordered the Beef Chow Fun which was amazing. To complete the meal, I ordered Thai Donuts (a must have). The restaurant prices were not bad and the service by our waiter Justin was great. He kept checking to make sure everything was okay and refilled our water glasses without having to be asked. This restaurant in West Boca is a really nice place for a great meal.

Got together with a group of 6 friends to go and see a show and our first choice was closed on Sundays so we decided to grab a bite first at Zen. The atmosphere is not what you would typically think of for sushi, it's not a quiet intimate cozy little date spot, it's big and bright, loud and well lit, big windows and an open kitchen with heavy wooden furniture. That's not necessarily good nor bad, just what it is. Between the 8 of us we tried about a dozen different things but I only got pics from my side of the table. Specialty cocktails were super tasty and definitely spirit forward. The beef yukke was spicy and delicious, but looked a little too much like the raw beef it is for most of my table-mates. More for me! I got 2 rolls. The Sushi Bomb, and the Zen roll, cuz if you're confident enough to name your own roll, I'm gonna give it a shot! The sushi bomb was not bad, but it's just a roll, anything I could get anywhere. The Zen roll was great though. Tuna, hamachi, and squid, each strong enough to hold their own against the others, and a Japanese pickle? Yes!!! A sushi boat looked beautiful but most of the rolls coming out last night were just okay, and quite a few looked as if they had been made in a hurry. Sadly, the service was nowhere near as good as the food. Drinks arrived late, food came out piecemeal, and trying to split checks was a nightmare that had each of double and triple checking. One of our party has ordered takeout from here before and proclaimed it great, but after dining in, I'm gonna lower that to "okay." If it's a Sunday night and this is where you happen to be, go ahead, it's definitely not bed, but... There are better sushi options in town, take the extra time to find them.

Made a reservation for a Thursday night and the place wasn't that busy. I had pretty high expectations for a new sushi place in boca but I was pretty disappointed. The service and the restaurant itself would be a 5 stars but the food was more of a 3. The staff were all very nice and accommodating. The decor was trendy and clean but the food lacked. I ordered a sushi set with teriyaki steak and miso soup. The only good thing was the miso soup. The sashimi had a pretty weird flavor and I was not a fan. The only thing that tasted okay was the raw salmon. The teriyaki steak was awful. It was completely dry and over cooked. Would not recommend. The people I was with ordered ramen that they said was good and fried rice which I tasted and was excellent. It seems like the cooked food is a hit or miss and the sushi is an absolute miss. If I were to come back here I would order something like soup or rice.

We order tuna pizza was amazing And sample box mix off fish was incredible The fish was very fresh I will definitely will recommend this place

The service was friendly. The food was fantastic. Sushi and chicken Panang curry. The ambiance was nice. We sat outside at the bar. Very nice spot.

Great spot! Had the panang curry and the katsu and both were fresh and delicious. Service was excellent too, and our cocktails were great. I like that they offer brown rice as an alternative too. We'll be back.

The menus is creative inspired Indian with some Asian fusion mixed in. A little something for everyone. We ordered 2 entrees. The Wood Grilled Spanish Octopus and the Chicken Masala. We were sharing both and started with the Octopus. It was so tender and served on top of crispy potato and with a green apple nuoc cham - a vibrant tart dipping sauce. They had me here, it was so good. The the Chicken Masala came out. This was one of the best Chicken Tikka dishes, I've had. Not too spicy and so flavorful. I was so impressed. Not only was the food and service on point, but the next morning I got an email from the restaurant thanking me for dining. Now thats excellent customer service. A fabulous addition to Mid-Boca and I can't wait to go back.

Although it has a beautiful menu of wines and spirits, we stuck to their filtered water, and asked KC for any recommendations for lunch. He was very engaging, a wonderful communicator, and we made our selections which started with the bacon wrapped dates (YUM). Prior to my order, I mentioned a dietary restriction and KC promptly went to the kitchen to make an inquiry. I ordered the trout with lentil ragout, and my husband ordered a margarita pizza. The atmosphere was very peaceful, with unintrusive music, and we really did enjoy getting to know KC as he made sure that we were satisfied with every plate. This restaurant is upscale, yet with value pricing. Altogether, my husband and I encourage you to enjoy a lovely meal, and make sure to ask for KC! You won't be disappointed!

Also loved the atmosphere once again, it's just a very nice, open place to enjoy a meal and have a drink. We got a bunch of appetizers to start. The house made Ricotta with cracked pepper and olive oil was very delicious. I also loved the crispy zucchini slices, which were topped with peppadew peppers and a chili vinaigrette. Outstanding stuff. The seared ahi tuna was next level. The fish was fresh and beautifully seated and the mix of cucumber, aji amarillo, pineapple, cilantro and wasabi cream was sensational. One of the best dishes they make at Sixty Vines. The absolute best of the bunch was the truffle fries! They were amazing. They are basically crispy layered potatoes, almost like stacks of filo dough, fried and topped with pecorino, chives and lemon truffle cream. They were so good we ordered a second one! Considering how wonderful everything was to this point, we were expecting nothing but great things for the next course. However they completely dropped the ball and basically ruined our meal with lackluster entrees. Our party ordered the steak fries with chimichurri sauce, the double cabrenet burger, and several filet mignons. The amount of time it took to get the food was unreasonable. Once the appetizers were finished we had to wait somewhere around 20 to 25 minutes to get our mains, and the place was not that busy. I assume that the waitress just forgot or was busy with something else. As for the food, the quality of the steaks was not good all around. Everybody who got the filet mignon commented that the texture was chalky and weird. They were also all overcooked. And oddly, they decided to slice the steak before serving it, so it was very dry. Why would you pre slice a steak, all that's going to do is let the juices seep out and make the temperature drop. I honestly don't get it. The steak that came with the steak fries, I think it was a skirt steak, was also not the best cut. It was super fatty and a little chewy. The fries were good though but the meat was terrible. Finally the burger was completely overdone despite the person ordering it medium rare. Overall, not the best ending to a meal that started with such amazing dishes. Really striking contrast. And actually it made me think that I probably will not go back to Sixty Vines anytime soon. For a $350 meal they have to be doing a lot better. Dried out, overcooked steaks and burgers isn't going to cut it.

It was actually a little loud, but most of the noise was coming from the inside of the restaurant. The patio is really beautiful and well covered. We had two servers throughout our entire meal, which was actually very well orchestrated. We were constantly being checked on, and the servers made an effort to get to know us. They really went above and beyond bringing a water bowl for our dog and bringing a pitcher with water for flowers. On Wednesday night, they have half off bottles of wine that are under $99. We ordered a bottle of white and it was only $24. For food, we started with the brussel sprouts, which were perfectly sweet and savory. The brussel sprouts come with goat cheese, but they were nice enough to put the cheese on the side to accommodate our dietary needs. For entrées, we ordered pear pasta and the pear salad. The pear pasta wasn't as good as I remembered it being, but the pears in the salad had no flavor, so I think in general, the pears were just out of season. The food though was still really great and everything was very fresh. When our waitresses came to cash us out they took each of our cards, stated our names and then made an effort to remember our names. Overall, the food was really good. The service was excellent and I truly haven't had service at this level in a very long time. I'm looking forward to going back soon.
