Chicken paitan ramen
Sho R.

I stopped by on a Saturday for lunch with high expectations. I got course after course of inedible food. Chicken paitan ramen was the worst of all. To begin with it was cold. I think it was from prior day. It smelled bad as well. Karaage chicken didn't have any flavor. Tokyo chaahan was barely edible. Just that it came cold and tasted like from prior day. Mango latte with pudding was an ok drink. Not sure what happened to this place.

Went for lunch on a Sunday. It was decently busy but service was fast. The food was great. I recommend the gyoza, they were fresh and yummy. The ramen was creamy and rich!

Ramen duo

Really kind server and a very calming and welcome space! I got the Ramen duo and it was really good and so was the strawberry matcha latte! only thing was the chicken side of the ramen was plain but otherwise this place is good and will come back

Best ramen in Greater Madison in my opinion. Willing to drive 25 minutes every weekend just for it. Decent service & casual ambiance.

Walked in the store and it reminded me of the Ramenya in Tokyo! The waiter Angga helped to my seat, and was fast in taking my order. The Zen Ramen bowl was really good, reminds me of the Shoyu broth the Ramenya use back in Japan. The tempura was crunchy, though i would loved a tempura sauce rather than the sweet chili sauce offered. For dessert, Angga offered me to try a matcha cheesecake. I usually don't do dessert, but this one did not disappoint! The chocolate, matcha and cheese all blended in a nice light dark chocolate taste. I'll definitely be back to experience another authentic bowl of ramen!

Garlic Miso Ramen

Ramen is always the right choice on a cold day. I'm impressed with the choice of decor. It really wasn't busy but the restaurant is new. That being said, check it out. I got the garlic miso ramen and my boyfriend got the volcano ramen. I have to say I did have entree envy but I still liked my ramen! The portion is huge, the garlic comes through. I did pay extra for the chili oil which a little goes a long way for spice. Pork was nice, I think I would've liked a thicker cut but it's close to having that melt in your mouth consistency. I also ordered the Thai iced tea. Bobas were chewy and sweet. I probably would've opted out of the whipped cream if I knew it came with. A perfect pairing to cut the spiciness. My boyfriend wanted me to include this: he gives it a 5/5. Doesn't want this gem to leave Madison.

Yum!!! Authentic Ramen and quick service! We came for my nephew's birthday and tried a few appetizers as well. Clean and the bar in particular was decorated beautifully.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I've lived long enough to see a ramen place go in within walking distance of my house. I never thought I'd see the day. Zen Ramen is one of several new business that are revitalizing the Rolling Meadows Shopping Center-and it's a welcome one. I ordered the Zen Ramen while spouse ordered the classic. I could have easily split my portion. Excellent with lots of noodles. Service was speedy and the decor is cozy. Sake and beer are available along with hot teas and soda. No more five mile drive for a bowl of ramen. Yay! And after you visit, check out the cool shops next door.

Service was impeccable, very kindly accommodating a food allergy even with a set restaurant week menu. The shoyu egg excelled and would recommend the $2 add on. The food was so fresh! Only complaint is the food took awhile and came out a little cold but would definitely come again. Truly the service elevated the experience and impressed. Also enjoyed the selection of ramen and variety available.

I've never had bad things from here. The environment is very welcoming and the food is to die for. Can only speak good things about this place :)

Amazing Ramen. Definite candidate for the top spot in Madison. Make a point to check it out.

Excellent food and service. Large selection of ramen and appetizers. Portions are plenty and if you can't finish, containers to take home. Prices are very reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food.

The gentleman who served me was very patient and friendly as I looked over the menu and asked questions about different dishes. I started with the lamb skewer as an appetizer and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful it was. For my main dish, I chose the Gyuunika Ramen with shrimp. It was a bit on the spicier side, so if you do not enjoy heat, you might want to try something milder. If you want to dial down the spice level, I recommend adding their house teriyaki sauce--it adds a nice sweetness that balances the broth perfectly. The dish was rich, hearty, and delicious, and I didn't mind the spice at all. Safe to say, I will definitely be dining here again before I head back to my home state.

While the beef itself was flavorful and enjoyable, the egg was too overcooked and kind of ruined the dish. The ramen content was fine, but the broth lacked flavor and richness. There were also only 2 pieces of meat in the ramen which was disappointing. Overall it was okay, nothing was wrong with the service at all, we were just expecting a little more from the food itself.

If you go for ramen, your best bet is to go for the tonkotsu or miso ramen. They make their noodles…read morein house, so they are fresh and springy. And they adjust the noodle thickness based upon the broth type, so that's good. But if you like shoyu ramen, this really isn't their strong point; it will be more like a lighter tonkotsu broth with thicker noodles. They also offer dan dan men and chuka soba in the summertime, but it's not really the Japanese style. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the staff is very nice and attentive. Service is quick. I stopped by on the way to Breese Field and it was a delicious quick dinner. The bamboo shoots are made with a canned variety, instead of dehydrated, and the marinated egg is really just soft-boiled. So if you're a ramen snob, set your expectations accordingly. Even still, it was a solid bowl of ramen

The ramen was flavorful and the dumplings were the star of the show. They were juicy and delicious. I love that it's in a house-like building and there are many different rooms. It feels cozy and comfortable. I will return again for ramen. It's my #2 place in Madison!

Was hungry after touring 2 Frank Lloyd Wright sites and felt like sushi so I was happy I had…read morebookmarked Sake Sushi. Located on the West side of Madison, and I was already half way there. The neighborhood is nice and Sake Sushi is located in a small plaza, however I almost missed it since it is located on the side of the plaza and was not visible from the street. Inside I found an interesting mix of decor, it seems like a traditional Asian restaurant with white linen tableclothes and also some very modern touches including neon strip lighting along the ceiling and a variety of light fixtures. Overall a bit of a mishmash that would be better if they picked one style and stayed with it. I got there in the late afternoon so the place was empty at first, I was seated and given the menu which allows you to fill out what you want. The menu is fairly similar to other AYCE sushi places I have been at. Of note is that at dinner you can order up to 15 pieces of sashimi without an extra charge. I ordered a nice selection of sashimi, some sushi, a couple of different maki rolls, the salmon skin salad and the seafood soup. Interestingly the sashimi and sushi came out first, then the maki rolls, then the soup and salad. The sashimi was very good, fresh with nice sized pieces; the nigiri sushi had a nice portion of seafood to rice. I was a bit disappointed with the seafood soup, just a bit under seasoned and too much bean sprouts. The salmon skin salad was excellent with nicely roasted smoked salmon skin mixed with a bit of eel sauce, delicious, crunchy and one of my favorites that you don't see everywhere. I also enjoyed the scallops sashimi, large fresh raw scallops with a nice delicate flavor and texture. The maki rolls were good as well, nicely sized with plenty of filling. I did really enjoy the Super Lobster Roll with shrimp tempura, cucumbers, avocado then topped with lobster salad; the lobster salad was a nice treat, although I think it was made with lagostino lobsters it was still tasty. I also liked their version of spider roll, the soft shell crab was crispy and flavorful. I enjoyed my meal at Sake Sushi, dinner was $30 for all you can eat. The sushi and sashimi were very good, of course not quite the same quality as the best sushi bars but pretty close. Service was good and there are plenty of choices, including noodle dishes, fried rice, hibachi and tempura. The decor is a bit of a miss, but nothing that will keep you from enjoying your meal. Well worth a try if you are hungry and feel like some sushi and Japanese food.
