the service and atmosphere were great. food was mid, rice wasn't seasoned well, not bad but decent

Nice location; open mall type. Nice setup with sushi bar, bar and group seating. Staff was really good, professional, good attitude and responsive. Great selection of sushi's. I had the spicy tuna; just right heat.; definitely not for the faint of heart. We had a group of 6 with an infant; high chair was available. It did take awhile for food to arrive but they were busy. Nice place; would recommend!

Came in the other day to celebrate my friend's birthday. They mentioned they do not usually do anything for birthdays but our server was kind enough to surprise us with some origami and a scoop of lychee sorbet which was such a thoughtful gesture and really made our night. I did not catch his name but he is Asian and wears glasses so if you see this thank you so much. His service was genuinely amazing. As for the sushi it was alright. We got the combo nigiri and I was not super impressed. The tuna was a little gummy and the salmon was kind of firm. My favorite was the seabass since it was really soft and had great flavor.

Solid sushi. Slightly disappointed they didn't have crab Rangoon (that's how you know the restaurant was started by Japanese person haha), but all the rolls were solid. Not the most visually appealing salmon nigiri, and slightly higher prices than other sushi places in Madison.

Solid spot serving up good food at a reasonable price! If you're a sushi fan, Muramoto will definitely scratch your itch. The only drawback, so to speak, is it is really cramped on the inside. A table for 2 and we were seated so close to the tables next to us that even in hushed tones we could clearly hear everyone's conversation, not really ideal if you're looking for a night out and almost forced to eavesdrop. The other drawback (hopefully just a one time issue) is that we went on a Saturday night, ordered the negitoro and they were out. A bit of a bummer for a sushi establishment to be out of sushi a weekend evening. Overall, solid spot, solid food, solid price, ok actual dining experience.

Muramoto is so good! A great spot for sushi in Madison. Came for lunch on a Saturday around 1pm. It was pretty full, but we were able to grab a spot at the sushi bar. Food - 4/5 A good variety of sushi - rolls, nigiri, sashimi included! We got the Maki Combo and some salmon nigiri. Most of the rolls were delicious! I wasn't a fan of the one with salmon tempura, the fish didn't seem super fresh. Ambiance - 5/5 Beautiful space! Service - 5/5 Our server was super efficient. No complaints :)

    Shrimp Tempura

I have been here multiple times with friends and loved it. The staff is always super friendly, the atmosphere is good, and the food is great. In particular, my friend and I both LOVED the shrimp tempura when we tried it. Recently, I went here with a friend and tried a bite of her miso black cod, and it was delicious. Shortly after, I took my mom here for the first time and suggested we share the cod and it tasted SO FISHY to the point of being pretty unappetizing. They may have just been having an off day, but I was disappointed that that was my mom's first experience here. I have had multiple positive experiences here though, and I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Love Muramoto's speed of service and yummy fresh food. I will say their rolls fall apart on pick up (Fin Sushi does a way better job at symmetry and polished-ness) but still love Muramoto for the more gourmet options and smooth rice (albeit vv high rice ratio) Maki combo chef's choice did not disappoint today with a surprise Tarantula (my fav!), Seabass and salmon-avocado inside out roll. The latter was incredibly smooth and melty! Almost just all tasted like one thing which was awesome. I highly recommend their masago mayo on the side, to die for. We also tried the Snow Crab sashimi off the seasonal menu today and it was SO fresh and juicy, slightly chilled, so good. A generous amount for the price paid I think

Negi-toro! translates to joy in my heart. Nothing is better than fatty tuna and at Muramoto, it slaps. Super reliable and delicious sushi. I've been here countless times, and it's always super clean, great vibes, awesome service. They were playing reggaeton the last time we went, so slay. You can watch the sushi chefs do their thing while you eat. There's private rooms in the back that you can reserve for big groups. A super solid experience all around.

godzilla roll was tasty but the tempura shrimp clearly had been sitting out for a while and was not crispy. lots of tobbiko on top and not spicy. i liked that it came with a lot of sauce on the underside of the sushi. service was quick and our food came out in 10-15 mins

I've been here several times and love it! The food is always fresh and well presented. I frequently order the Combination #1 which is the chef's choice of nigiri. The selections are always fresh and tasty. The rice is always well seasoned. The environment is warm and slightly cheery. The service is always good with the servers being attentive. I highly recommend.

We saw many patrons inside on a weekday night and decided to try out for lunch. First of all, there's a free garage parking which it's wonderful! The restaurant takes on a minimalist approach which I love. No reservation is needed for only party of 2. We were seated almost immediately at lunch. The tables are very very close to each other, like 1 foot in width. I promise your behind will hit the other table if you're curvy. I'm not curvy and already had a hard time in getting in and out. The chairs/bench aren't comfortable at all. Scan menu via QR code which can be convenient. However, its menu is long and I dislike scrolling up and down too many times. It's also written on the wall if you can read the menu from sitting all the way at the corner. One of my most favorite dishes at Nobu is miso black cod. I know this isn't Nobu but it's hard to mess up black cod. It was buttery but a tad too salty for my preference. The miso soup was just room temperature. Ordered the maki combo which the chef pick three rolls. I ended up having the Godzilla, escolar and scallop. You can tell them what you don't eat or dislike. The sushi rice are too mushy. As I was chewing on my escolar roll, I was dreaming about my trip to Japan in 2023 where I will certainly get high quality sashimi/sushi.

Very cute sushi spot in Hilldale! All sushi rolls are good, but it is definitely overpriced. Service is pretty quick.

The neighborhood is nice and Sake Sushi is located in a small plaza, however I almost missed it since it is located on the side of the plaza and was not visible from the street. Inside I found an interesting mix of decor, it seems like a traditional Asian restaurant with white linen tableclothes and also some very modern touches including neon strip lighting along the ceiling and a variety of light fixtures. Overall a bit of a mishmash that would be better if they picked one style and stayed with it. I got there in the late afternoon so the place was empty at first, I was seated and given the menu which allows you to fill out what you want. The menu is fairly similar to other AYCE sushi places I have been at. Of note is that at dinner you can order up to 15 pieces of sashimi without an extra charge. I ordered a nice selection of sashimi, some sushi, a couple of different maki rolls, the salmon skin salad and the seafood soup. Interestingly the sashimi and sushi came out first, then the maki rolls, then the soup and salad. The sashimi was very good, fresh with nice sized pieces; the nigiri sushi had a nice portion of seafood to rice. I was a bit disappointed with the seafood soup, just a bit under seasoned and too much bean sprouts. The salmon skin salad was excellent with nicely roasted smoked salmon skin mixed with a bit of eel sauce, delicious, crunchy and one of my favorites that you don't see everywhere. I also enjoyed the scallops sashimi, large fresh raw scallops with a nice delicate flavor and texture. The maki rolls were good as well, nicely sized with plenty of filling. I did really enjoy the Super Lobster Roll with shrimp tempura, cucumbers, avocado then topped with lobster salad; the lobster salad was a nice treat, although I think it was made with lagostino lobsters it was still tasty. I also liked their version of spider roll, the soft shell crab was crispy and flavorful. I enjoyed my meal at Sake Sushi, dinner was $30 for all you can eat. The sushi and sashimi were very good, of course not quite the same quality as the best sushi bars but pretty close. Service was good and there are plenty of choices, including noodle dishes, fried rice, hibachi and tempura. The decor is a bit of a miss, but nothing that will keep you from enjoying your meal. Well worth a try if you are hungry and feel like some sushi and Japanese food.

She called the sushi "chef" (that's a stretch in this case!) several times to answer questions. I asked if there were any spicy rolls, and he suggested a few, but they all contained imitation crab, which I find unappetizing. I finally settled on a Spicy Salmon Roll and a Soft Shell Crab Roll. I also ordered a Miso Soup. The Miso Soup arrived first, and it was a very watered-down version of Miso Soup with no umami. I stopped and pushed it aside after a couple of spoonfuls. The rolls arrived, and I was about to ask for wasabi and pickled ginger when I noticed these little pre-packaged plastic bags of wasabi and pickled ginger. I should have left then . . . a big mistake to stay. I started on the Spicy Salmon Roll. One bite and I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. I've never tasted such a mediocre take on sushi rolls. I ate two pieces because I was hungry, but it was all I could stomach. I looked at the Soft Shell Crab Roll and noticed that it contained imitation crab. I called the young woman over, and of course, she went and got the "chef". I told him that I didn't recall seeing imitation crab in the description of the roll on the menu. He said he'd make me a fresh batch without the imitation crab. The replacement roll came, and there were little red bits of something sprinkled on top of each slice. I called the young woman over and asked her what it was. She insisted that it was tobiko. Honey, I'm from California, and I know tobiko when I see it. This ain't tobiko. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Again, another big mistake. I took a bite and quickly spat it out because my chest suddenly felt constricted. I started coughing, and tears began streaming down my face. My mouth felt like there had been a chemical explosion, and I had trouble breathing. I called the girl over again and, with a raspy voice, asked her what was in the roll. Of course, she called the "chef", and instead of answering my question, he told me he would refund me for the roll. My curiosity got the better of me. I was pretty certain it was the little red bits of "tobiko" that caused the reaction I had, so I scraped them off the next roll and removed the piece of soft shell crab, ate it, and it was fine. I braved myself and took a bite of the roll with the "tobiko", and had the same reaction as before. That was it. I'd had enough of this wannabe sushi joint. I gathered my things, told the young woman this was the worst food I've ever had, and left. That was such a frightening experience. The pain in my chest subsided after an hour or so, but my voice remained raspy for the rest of the day. I will never go back and wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. How this place garnered 4.4 stars is beyond me. Giving it 1 star is being overly generous!
