    Dinner Bento Box

We went here for dinner and got their bento box special which was fantastic! You get a sushi roll, rice, vegetable tempura, shumai, and a main dish, all for a really good price. The nigiri was also some of the best we've had in Madison! The service was quick and our waiter was such a kind gentleman Also the vibe inside is so peaceful, like a spa. Overall I HIGHLY recommend!

Oishi Sushi & Bar, super cute spot. We were craving sushi and stumbled upon Oishi Sushi & Bar and what a delightful find it was! We were greeted by the friendliest staff. The sushi was incredibly fresh, I barely had to use any soy sauce, and the garlic ramen? Absolutely delicious! I had to get it when I saw it on the menu and I have no regrets. I've heard that the owners might be the same as those behind Edo Sushi? If anyone knows for sure, feel free to correct me. Either way, we can't wait to return for more sushi goodness! If you're in the mood for some amazing sushi, do yourself a favor and check this place out!

First time in the area, and wanted sushi as well as ramen. Quaint little place, a rather soothing atmosphere. They were a little slow customer wise so we were seated quickly, and our waitress was promptly attentive.

This place was bustling for dinner. Service was a little chaotic. We were seated at a table and then maybe 2 minutes later they asked if we wanted to sit at the booth behind us when the group before us had just left. It was very nice of them to do so. The server had informed us that it would be about 10-15 min to order because they were so behind. I appreciate the thorough communication. We didn't wait that long before ordering and getting served our food. I liked the variety of rolls they had to choose from. My boyfriend thought it was meh. We ordered the black and pink roll, miso on fire and black dragon. We've always enjoyed eel so the black dragon was our favorite. I liked that the miso on fire came with fried onions - I wish there could've been more miso sauce on the roll.

Definitely a spot I was sleeping on, but not anymore…read more I'll admit, Hana Japanese Restaurant was completely off my radar for way too long, but now it's the only place I'll go for sushi. Once you find your spot, you find your spot. Fair warning: walking in for the first time, the place looks almost too small to be legit. But don't let that fool you. Most nights it picks up and you realize pretty quickly this spot is the real deal. The rolls here are just consistently good. I have yet to have a bad one, and at this point I've had enough to say that with confidence. Our table almost always orders the Diamond Roll (teriyaki steak on top, yes, really), and I have zero photos to prove it because it disappears within seconds of hitting the table. Every time. My personal go-to's are the Tomo and the 007 Roll, both of which I'll be ordering until further notice. I recently branched out and tried the Oceanside Roll, which was a really refreshing change of pace. Glad I stepped outside my comfort zone on that one. Service is solid. Nothing flashy, but they're polite, attentive, drinks stay filled, and in all my visits they've never once gotten an order wrong. Honestly, that consistency goes a long way. We also tried the crab rangoons. They're fine, decent, not mind-blowing, but the dipping sauce that comes with them is surprisingly spicy. A little unexpected, but it works in its own way. If you've been sleeping on Hana like I was, wake up.

The hubby and I were hungry after our workout tonight and I sure am happy that we peaked our head inside Nori after initially being drawn to the restaurant by our noses. She called the sushi "chef" (that's a stretch in this case!) several times to answer questions. I asked if there were any spicy rolls, and he suggested a few, but they all contained imitation crab, which I find unappetizing. I finally settled on a Spicy Salmon Roll and a Soft Shell Crab Roll. I also ordered a Miso Soup. The Miso Soup arrived first, and it was a very watered-down version of Miso Soup with no umami. I stopped and pushed it aside after a couple of spoonfuls. The rolls arrived, and I was about to ask for wasabi and pickled ginger when I noticed these little pre-packaged plastic bags of wasabi and pickled ginger. I should have left then . . . a big mistake to stay. I started on the Spicy Salmon Roll. One bite and I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. I've never tasted such a mediocre take on sushi rolls. I ate two pieces because I was hungry, but it was all I could stomach. I looked at the Soft Shell Crab Roll and noticed that it contained imitation crab. I called the young woman over, and of course, she went and got the "chef". I told him that I didn't recall seeing imitation crab in the description of the roll on the menu. He said he'd make me a fresh batch without the imitation crab. The replacement roll came, and there were little red bits of something sprinkled on top of each slice. I called the young woman over and asked her what it was. She insisted that it was tobiko. Honey, I'm from California, and I know tobiko when I see it. This ain't tobiko. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Again, another big mistake. I took a bite and quickly spat it out because my chest suddenly felt constricted. I started coughing, and tears began streaming down my face. My mouth felt like there had been a chemical explosion, and I had trouble breathing. I called the girl over again and, with a raspy voice, asked her what was in the roll. Of course, she called the "chef", and instead of answering my question, he told me he would refund me for the roll. My curiosity got the better of me. I was pretty certain it was the little red bits of "tobiko" that caused the reaction I had, so I scraped them off the next roll and removed the piece of soft shell crab, ate it, and it was fine. I braved myself and took a bite of the roll with the "tobiko", and had the same reaction as before. That was it. I'd had enough of this wannabe sushi joint. I gathered my things, told the young woman this was the worst food I've ever had, and left. That was such a frightening experience. The pain in my chest subsided after an hour or so, but my voice remained raspy for the rest of the day. I will never go back and wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. How this place garnered 4.4 stars is beyond me. Giving it 1 star is being overly generous!

The neighborhood is nice and Sake Sushi is located in a small plaza, however I almost missed it since it is located on the side of the plaza and was not visible from the street. Inside I found an interesting mix of decor, it seems like a traditional Asian restaurant with white linen tableclothes and also some very modern touches including neon strip lighting along the ceiling and a variety of light fixtures. Overall a bit of a mishmash that would be better if they picked one style and stayed with it. I got there in the late afternoon so the place was empty at first, I was seated and given the menu which allows you to fill out what you want. The menu is fairly similar to other AYCE sushi places I have been at. Of note is that at dinner you can order up to 15 pieces of sashimi without an extra charge. I ordered a nice selection of sashimi, some sushi, a couple of different maki rolls, the salmon skin salad and the seafood soup. Interestingly the sashimi and sushi came out first, then the maki rolls, then the soup and salad. The sashimi was very good, fresh with nice sized pieces; the nigiri sushi had a nice portion of seafood to rice. I was a bit disappointed with the seafood soup, just a bit under seasoned and too much bean sprouts. The salmon skin salad was excellent with nicely roasted smoked salmon skin mixed with a bit of eel sauce, delicious, crunchy and one of my favorites that you don't see everywhere. I also enjoyed the scallops sashimi, large fresh raw scallops with a nice delicate flavor and texture. The maki rolls were good as well, nicely sized with plenty of filling. I did really enjoy the Super Lobster Roll with shrimp tempura, cucumbers, avocado then topped with lobster salad; the lobster salad was a nice treat, although I think it was made with lagostino lobsters it was still tasty. I also liked their version of spider roll, the soft shell crab was crispy and flavorful. I enjoyed my meal at Sake Sushi, dinner was $30 for all you can eat. The sushi and sashimi were very good, of course not quite the same quality as the best sushi bars but pretty close. Service was good and there are plenty of choices, including noodle dishes, fried rice, hibachi and tempura. The decor is a bit of a miss, but nothing that will keep you from enjoying your meal. Well worth a try if you are hungry and feel like some sushi and Japanese food.

We have a few servers we enjoy, but nobody beats Kevin, our man, the MVP, the best server in Madison, no questions asked. Kevin is kind, intelligent, fast with the food, great with recommendations, excellent with alcohol additions -- he makes our Muramoto experience fantastic and we love his vibe and his customer-friendship care for his tables. Otherise, my best friend loves the calamari, but it sometimes tastes a bit overcooked and there are empty crispies that don't have any meat inside. My only other complaint is sometimes the shrimp roll is too salty, but it's supposed to be salty and I'm not a big salty food gal.
