The restaurant itself has a lot of heart in its decoration and looked fairly well kept, though there were quite a few house flies the day I came, which was a bit of a bother. The food itself came out quite nicely - the sashimi was clearly fresh, and the food in the salmon hibachi lunch bento I ordered all came out well. Nothing too particularly fancy or unique, but also nothing bad to say either. Just some good food. And sometimes, good, consistent food is all that matters in life. Granted, I need to visit more before I can really judge if they are truly consistent. But what I had in my time there was truly good food. read more

Oishi Sushi & Bar, super cute spot. We were craving sushi and stumbled upon Oishi Sushi & Bar and what a delightful find it was! We were greeted by the friendliest staff. The sushi was incredibly fresh, I barely had to use any soy sauce, and the garlic ramen? Absolutely delicious! I had to get it when I saw it on the menu and I have no regrets. I've heard that the owners might be the same as those behind Edo Sushi? If anyone knows for sure, feel free to correct me. Either way, we can't wait to return for more sushi goodness! Disclaimer: I have only eaten sushi here so this review is solely based on that. Oishi has a solid selection of rolls to choose from. I will say their special rolls lean toward all having a mayo/sauce on them which make them a little heavy. A shout out to the tri-color sashmi/nigiri (salmon, tuna, yellowtail) that is extremely well priced. Sushi rice is serviceable but at times, the execution of creating the role is sometimes lacking. I would classify Oishi as part of Madison's B tier of sushi restaurants (Red and Muramoto occupying the A tier). Still, a solid and reliable place to get your sushi fix. read more

Fabulous! I ordered Oishi using DoorDash. My order included; Steak Hibachi with fried rice, Miso Roll, as well as Salmon and Fatty Tuna Nigiri. I was overly impressed with the Hibachi. The steak was slightly overdone for my liking, but the flavor was there! The vegetables included with hibachi (zucchini, onions, broccoli, and carrots) were crisp and crunchy--the sauce, slightly sweet with a kiss of umami. Absolutely delicious! I did call the restaurant after placing my order to request a specific soup with my hibachi meal. There was no option to give notes on the app for this particular restaurant. They were happy to honor my request! That won me over in the customer service department. I was impressed with my meal and I would definitely order again. We were seated at a table and then maybe 2 minutes later they asked if we wanted to sit at the booth behind us when the group before us had just left. It was very nice of them to do so. The server had informed us that it would be about 10-15 min to order because they were so behind. I appreciate the thorough communication. We didn't wait that long before ordering and getting served our food. I liked the variety of rolls they had to choose from. My boyfriend thought it was meh. We ordered the black and pink roll, miso on fire and black dragon. We've always enjoyed eel so the black dragon was our favorite. Let's start with this: there were four of us in our party - including one person with a lot of dietary restrictions. EVERYONE left happy! DRINKS: Three of us ordered a nonalcoholic drink that was DELICIOUS. It's not on the current online menu, but in the restaurant, it's near the top of the N/A list. It's bright red/berry and so refreshing. FOOD: We ordered the Love Boat plus an extra veggie roll. The Love Boat is a SHOW STOPPER and fed four hungry gals. With the Love Boat you get two Miso soups or two salads. So if you have more than two people in your group, you may need to order extra soup or salad. The fish was very fresh and clean and all the rolls and sushi were delicious. SERVICE: The hostess/waitress was DELIGHTFUL. She had us all laughing and at ease. I regret I waited too long to write this review and have forgotten her name. The true test of a restaurant is if you go back or order again. We have, and we'll continue! The presentation was great but the fish was not high quality. The Toro was super overpriced and definitely had something wrong with it. Both my dad and I are feeling slight sick after eating it. We tried the Golden Dragon, Oishi roll, Pink and Black roll, Dynamite, Crazy Dragon, and Paradise roll. Favorite was Paradise, but they were all really good. Plenty of wasabi and ginger on the side. We also had the Bullet appetizer which was yummy, although I wished the jalapeno was a little more cooked... It was pretty crunchy. Traveled to Madison for our first outing since having a baby two months ago, brought the baby along. Found this sushi spot, decided to give it a try. As soon as we sat down, baby became somewhat fussy (we had fed and changed immediately prior to arrival to avoid this ha) and the server immediately recognized this and offered us a private dining room to breast-feed and enjoy our meal without bothering other guests. This small gesture made a huge difference because we were very nervous about this first outing. So definitely five star service! The server was so kind and so nice throughout the whole experience. In regards to the food, excellent! We ended up getting the rock shrimp appetizer as well as the dragon, green dragon, and Philadelphia rolls... Super delicious! We will be coming back! read more
