Sometimes you want a very specific thing for lunch, and once the craving takes hold, everything else sounds like a bad suggestion. Today, I wanted soup dumplings. So we headed to Zen Dumplings on Baymeadows Road, where soup dumplings are very much the point. We started with a scallion pancake, wafer-thin and crisp, with enough scallion flavor to make its presence known. A little table-side chili crunch turned it into an excellent opening act. Then came the main event, soup dumplings. We ordered a basket of chicken, plus the sampler, which includes one each of chicken, beef, shrimp, crab, pork, and truffle. All of them were good, but the pork was the one I kept thinking about. The broth was deeply savory, and the pork filling had the texture and flavor of a very good meatball hiding inside a dumpling. The crab and shrimp were close behind. The beef and chicken were solid. The truffle dumpling was a different animal altogether. It tasted like someone had taken a whole truffle and put it inside a dumpling. Truffle isn't usually my favorite flavor, but even I had to admit this one worked. We also ordered shrimp stir-fried noodles. The shrimp were cooked nicely and the noodles were perfectly respectable. Unfortunately, I am still haunted by the spectacular stir-fried noodles I had at Izakaya Ko a couple of weeks ago, and Zen's version had the misfortune of being compared to them. But I didn't come here for the noodles. I came for soup dumplings, and Zen Dumplings delivered. Sometimes that's all you need from lunch. The craving was specific, the solution was obvious, and Zen Dumplings scratched that itch.
I've only gotten take out from this place a couple of times. I've never had a bad meal yet. I got their braised beef noodle soup and it hit the spot for my soup craving. I hope to dine in this place soon because I really want to try their soup dumplings and chili wontons.
Holy freaking moly. Hands down the best fried rice I've ever had. I'd come back for just that. In fact, I came for lunch today with my daughter and liked it so much I brought my mom for dinner. The Jasmine tea is delicious. The dumplings are 5 stars. Clean, great service, convenient location. Will be back.
One of my fav spots in Jax. The food is fire and so is the playlist. It had me singing between bites. We got the chicken soup dumplings, potstickers, chili dumplings, and some of the noodles. The chili dumplings were our favorite along with the noodles. Everything here has such good flavor! I want to try the soup dumplings that includes all the different meats. We also got some green tea and boba tea, which were both yummy as well. I believe I got the mango one that I really liked. The vibe is cool in here and the service is good. Definitely add this to your list to try if you haven't!
Cool little place located in an area surrounded by other restaurants. Modestly appointed with a couple of large screens looping pictures of menu items. Service was fast and friendly. QR code menus provide pics of the food along with prices. You order on a sheet in what I would describe as sushi style. Pretty simple concept. We started with edamame which came out fast. Chicken karaage followed close behind and I felt it was well executed. We asked for some sweet and sour sauce as none was served with the chicken. I found that kind of odd as I've had it served with a ponzu or spicy mayo other times at other establishments. The Mongolian beef was very good but my only complaint was the portion of beef in the dish. It's been like 100° lately so we weren't in the mood for soup dumplings. We'll have to come back when the weather is a little cooler. Overall a good experience.
We were the first to arrive when they opened and our server was amazing that day! She gave us all the good recs and really took the time to get to know us and make our experience so positive! The restaurant itself is very spacious and clean and inviting. Lots of fun decorations and art on the walls. We ended up ordering a few things, and we ate most of it before remembering to take pics lol. The dumplings were really yummy, but also honorable mention for the stir fried noodles with shrimp!! So good.
walking in is so inviting, love how neat, decorated and spacious it is. the staff are all friendly and accomodating :) the food is flavorful and delicious! i love that you can see them make the dumplings from the front glass area haha. it feels like those restaurants in asia. this place is a great spot to grab dim sum ~
Second time here. First time had the soup dumplings and it was good. This second visit was even better. Two of us had lunch and shared short ribs(amazing), string beans (the best string beans ever), Mongolian beef (delish) and scallion bread- least flavorful item but dipped in soy vinegar and pepper oil. I can't wait to go back and have the same all over again!
This place wants to mimic Din Tai Fung but falls short. But it's still a solid place to get soup dumplings and bao. I had high hopes for the beef scallion pancakes but the beef was chewy and not tender, not very flavorful. Would pass on that dish.

So here are some notes on the food: Tea - I drink hot tea and they had delicious choices. Green beans - trust me, ORDER THIS DISH, so good. Soup Buns - we had shrimp and pork and thought they were great. Steamed Dumplinfs - we tried tge veggies and I think they were great. Wok - great choices, but note these are full portions, so it is a lot of good choices On my first visit, I ordered wrong and regretted it. The next time, I engaged the waitress snd she made great recommendations rations. It was like a night and day experience.
The good- chicken karaage is AMAZING. Crispy flavorful outside, tender and juicy inside. Cooked to perfection. This tapa plate is worth the visit alone. The fried bao bites were flavorful hot and juicy. Mongolian beef was very tender. The service was friendly. Could improve- the server didn't seem knowledgeable on the menu. The beef pancake was a cold dish. This wasn't on the menu and the server didn't inform us. The pan fried dumplings just didn't look like any of the photos on any other review or on their menu. And the taste was "off." Trendy little restaurant that reminded me of restaurants I've visited in Japan and Korea. Worth the visit.
Had Zen Dumpling delivered and it was so delicious!!!!! Well their dumplings were at least. The green beans were delicious as well but the Mongolian beef was too sweet. I have also gotten the cucumbers, celery and mung bean, and dan dan noodles here that weren't very good. None of those dishes had much flavor, but I will come back again and again for their dumplings!!
Good dumplings and love that they make it in house. Ordered beef rolls and it came out cold. Not sure if that's how they do that here but the beef rolls I've had in the past have always been warm and crispy so that was a shock. Clean and esthetic look of the place. Service was good. Not over the top but cup was always full so I can't complain.

Zen Dumplings is located in the Baymeadows Village Shopping Center. Parking is ample due to the large strip shopping center in which the restaurant is situated. My dining companion and I have enjoyed a meal twice at this restaurant, the second time bringing another friend with us. Service is polite and swift from the moment you walk in the door. We have the same solid experience on a Friday evening as we did on a Saturday afternoon. Service staff are courteous, professional, and swift. On the first visit, my dining companion, and I split the soup, dumpling, sampler, two eggrolls and the stirfry noodles. I'm not sure why we thought the soup dumplings would be enough for two people as a dinner, but we ended up having to order the eggrolls stirfry noodles after we tried the dumplings. The dumplings are delightful. There's just enough meat and dough per bite to make the taste appealing. On the second visit, we again tried the chicken, dumpling entrée, the Dan Dan, noodles, the cucumber salad, and the chicken fried rice. It was definitely enough for a lunch for three people who had skipped breakfast. The plate presentation is as appealing as the taste. If we are in the Jacksonville area again, I wouldn't hesitate to stop again at this restaurant and recommend it! read more
Let me start out by commending our OUTSTANDING server, Auria! Our customer centered approach was phenomenal. She had the most gentle smile, and she genuinely cares about what she's doing based upon her communication with us. She was new and was honest about the menu option that she was aware of and what she did not know she went and researched! She is off to a fantastic start, and she was most impressive. Now let's talk about food, outstanding! We had a variety of things that my friend ordered. I didn't even look at the menu. The dumplings were excellent dim dim I believe is what it was called was exceptionally spicy however, as the manager explained to us it was Asian mild, which is different from American MIL. The dessert I had a mango not sure what it was called, but I could go back for 34 and five helps of that! Overall, the food was rich with flavor, authentic, and definitely worth the money! read more

Delicious dim sum place! They soup dumplings were the best I've had in Jacksonville. You order "small plates" and you share with the table. We wanted to try a little bit of everything and we got full so quick! The food came out pretty quick so that was nice. Dan Dan noodles was a little too spicy for me, but everything else was delicious. The soup dumplings is a must try. Keep in mind to poke a whole in the dumpling before eating it or else you'll burn your tongue. Plenty of parking its in a plaza read more
Zen Dumpling is still a new Asian Bistro spot and it looks way different from what t was before and they have Thai Boba drinks too! Took the Brown Sugar Milk Tea and the size is quite good and the right amountbof sweetness and of course the Boba :) The service was very good and in less than 3 minutes I was out the door. It looks like it is a good spot to eat and the lighting looks better this time which makes it look like it has more space inside. read more
We went here for a birthday party and everything was great. I got the dumpling sampler and they were all good. The truffle one was my favorite though. Got to sample a couple of other items, the zen chili wontons were good and so were the sweet and sour ribs. The wait staff was very accommodating for our somewhat large group, and the food came out quickly. I would definitely do that again especially with a group because the menu lends itself well to doing a family style dinner with sharing. read more

We really enjoy Zen Dumpling. Best soup dumplings I've had in Jax. This last visit was on a Saturday night. Several tables filled but this is a big space so we were sat immediately. Scan the barcode and view pics of different items. Fill out the paper sheet and wait for the deliciousness to arrive. As usual, we ordered too much, but that means leftovers for another day. We enjoyed the cucumber salad and always seem to order it. The spicy green beans were not that spicy. They were good but I thought they would be more crispy. Mini bao buns are tasty. The soup dumplings are excellent and loaded with broth. We also ordered the shrimp fried rice which was also very good. Service was great. Food does come out quick. We ate here last light and really enjoyed it. We ordered too much food but we really wanted to try everything. We also didn't realize that the main dish came with white rice. We had Mongolian beef, general tso chicken, noodles and chicken, fried rice and chicken, spring rolls and soup dumplings. I'd stay away from the noodles as they tasted weird but the rest was delish. Would def go back. Also, the waitress was lovely and the place looked clean. read more

We placed a fairly large to go order for 430pm. I got a text saying it was ready at 425 so I came in, but ended up needing to wait about 10 mins. I'll start with what I would get again: the stir fried green beans, zen chili wontons, stir fry noodles, and the truffle pork soup dumplings. We got the signature sampler and I thought the truffle pork soup dumpling was the only one I would get again. The general tso chicken had good flavor but was super tough and stringy that we actually ended up throwing most away. Scallion cakes were flavorless. The rest of the things we got were just ok- Sweet & sour baby ribs, signature bao steam, shrimp & pork dumplings. There were a few other things that I wanted to try, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. Staff was friendly and the ambience was nice but definitely casual. read more

The space is modern and sleek with minimalist decor. Spacious design and not crowded. XLB were too good. Chicken and mushroom dumplings were nice but not out of the world. Loved the fried rice, big portions and flavorful. Fried noodles were good but i have tasted better. Overall very nice experience and would be back read more
This was my first time trying Zen Dumpling. The service was good and there is a large selection on the menu. This particular visit my food was okay. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. Now the Sake was a whole different story. I tried the peach and my friend tried the apple. Lol who knew those little bottles would creep up on us like they did. I definitely want to be open minded and try this place again. I'm sure there are ton of other options they have that are delicious. My selection was decent, but I think I'd have to try more to give a solid review on the food. read more
First time in with no research ahead of time. We checked reviews and asked our server for recommendations. Overall, all of the food was fresh with good flavor. Our favorites were the Chicken Karaage and the Fried Bao Bites. The Mongolian beef was very tender and the General Tso Chicken was crispy with just the right amount of spice. The beef pancake roll was surprisingly cold but I think it was meant to be with chilled ingredients like cucumber. Great service and clean, open dining room. Would love to come back and try other things. read more

I've been waiting for this place to open up! As soon as you walk in, you are greeted immediately and surrounded by Beautiful modern style interior. The server was friendly and very knowledgeable. They knew what ingredients were in each menu items and took their time to explain. Food came out in a reasonable time and did not change as the place grew a crowd. Highlights. We fell in love with the beef noodle soup and their signature pan fried min baos. These were full of flavor and what well def be coming back for. We also got soup dumplings, pan fried beef dumpling, and steamed pot and shrimp dumpling. These were very juices but lacked some seasoning. Now you can taste the ingredients really well. With the dipping sauce and chili oil they go really well. But it didn't stand out as much as the 2 we mentioned. I got too into the food and did not take the rest of the photos lol read more
My friends decided to host a going away dinner here at Zen Dumpling and we all love dumpling so we were super excited. The restaurant is very modern and sleek. It's super clean too! We were seated right away and our waitress was such a sweetheart! She went above and beyond and made sure everyone was taken care of! We absolutely adored her! My husband and I had the following: Truffle pork Soup dumplings: 9/10 - they were juicy, filled with delicious broth and pork/truffle filling. We could taste the truffle flavor and it was aromatic and tasty! Each steamed basket comes with 6 dumplings and they were a great size! We enjoyed every bite of the dumpling. They had soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, and pickled ginger at the table to make your own dumpling sauce too! Definitely try the soy sauce, ginger, and chili oil concoction with your dumpling. It brings out alot of flavors. Crab and pork Soup Dumplings: 9/10 - I love seafood, especially crab and it was jam packed with crab flavor without overpowering the pork! My husband usually doesn't care for crab but he enjoyed this dumpling very much. No complaints here! It was juicy, savory, and lots of umami flavor. Chicken kaarage: 8.5/10 - My husband loves chicken kaarage and this was their version of it. It came out piping hot and the chicken pieces were juicy, flavorful, and crispy! We loved the batter and fry on it as they were fried to a nice, deep golden color and each bite was heavenly. Zen chow cold slice beef: 8/10 - I didn't really care too much for this, but my husband loved it. I think it's because I don't like beef cold but the flavor tasted good. I think it had a drizzle of hoisin or oyster sauce on top and sesame seeds sprinkled on. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't try this again. sweet and sour pork ribs: 9.5/10 - oh my gosh! This was probably some of the best bites of the night! The meat was tender and fell of the bone and you get alot of the rib pieces. The flavor was sweet with a hint of tang and that sauce was to die for! The sauce coated every crevice of the ribs and you get an medley of flavors with each bite. I absolutely would get this again! Overall, we would definitely come back again. It is a little pricey but it's worth it with the quality of the food. The service was outstanding as well and we left happy and full. read more
Zen is a very modern and pleasant space, and service was very friendly. It is, however, pricy for what it is. I ordered pork soup dumplings (LXB) and chili wontons for lunch and the bill was over $30 including a very sweet boba tea. The soup dumplings were good, but slightly bland. The skin was a little on the thick side, but thet did maintain their structural integrity. The chili wontons were nice, but also lacked some punch. Not a bad spot, but very expensive. read more
I think most people go wrong if all they order is dumplings. I would definitely order one set but you should order the beef roll-up it was my favorite bite. We got chicken and broccoli and a meat soup. A good variety of dishes made this a wonderful meal. They are also open on Christmas day. The ambiance was nice and I would recommend it for dates. read more

As we stepped into Zen Dumpling, we were instantly welcomed by friendly smiles and a cozy vibe. We decided to try the Thai Milk Tea, Lemonade, Beef Pancake Roll, Pan Fried bao bites, Mongollan Beet, and Shrimp Fried Rice. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious, with just the right temperature and beautifully presented. Not including our tip, we paid a total of $64.83, which included taxes. Pretty good and definitely one of a kind in Jax! Ordered pork soup dumplings, scallion pancake, pan fried pork bao, and dan dan noodles. The soup dumplings were definitely the highlight, with lots of broth inside, just wish there were more than 6 in an order! The scallion pancake was good but nothing too special. Pan fried pork bun also had good flavor but the bottom could have been crispier. Dan dan noodles were good combo of sweet and spicy, but portion size could have been bigger for the price. Service was great, and the restaurant itself is new and clean. Overall good food, a little bit expensive for the portion sizes you get, highlight was the soup dumplings! read more

Got off of work a little early around 3pm with the co worker and we decided on Zen dumpling! Our waitress Suki was awesome! She explained everything on what we needed to know and expect. We went with her recommendations with the chili dumplings, cucumber salad, and fried green beans, yes those were all bangers 3/3!! The chicken soup dumplings (obviously)and pan fried bao buns were all extremely juicy and oozing out with juices. Make sure you make your ginger soy sauce and vinegar dip to round it out for a flavor bomb! I love how the place is very well kept and has a modernized minimalistic setting. I enjoyed my conversations with my coworker and wasn't too loud but then again we did go before the dinner rush. I absolutely recommend this place and I'll definitely be back! read more
I will give 6 stars if I can! Stopped by the restaurant after a long day of driving. The restaurant was quite busy on a weeknight at 8:30pm. We were seated quickly. We ordered a taro milk bubble tea, pork soup dumplings, braised beef noodle soup, and fried chicken noodle soup. Everything was so tasty! The ingredients are so fresh, and the soup's flavors were excellent. I usually don't eat carrots, but I ate every single piece from my soup. The presentations were also really beautiful. Service was very friendly and fast. Highly recommend! We will come again if we ever travel to Jacksonville again. read more

This place was SO good I completely forgot to take pictures before eating... which should tell you everything. We ordered a little bit of everything -- soup dumplings, fried dumplings, fried chicken, chicken soup, and some noodle dish -- and honestly, every single bite slapped. The soup dumplings were juicy and flavorful, the fried dumplings were perfectly crispy, and the fried chicken was insanely good. Comfort food at its finest. I came in fully planning to document the meal, but once the food hit the table, all plans were gone. Plates were cleared. Zero regrets. If you're into dumplings and cozy, satisfying food, don't think twice -- just go. And maybe take pictures before you start eating... unlike me. read more

While waiting for kiddo in the children's art class a few steps away, we thought to kill time we could grab a quick bite at Zen dumpling. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, a great spot for casual dining with friends or even a chill solo meal. Service was friendly and quick too. The only downside? the staff's english could use a little help. Pink Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) Visually stunning and absolutely delicious. The pink color isn't just for show; they're juicy, flavorful, and perfectly steamed. The broth inside bursts with umami when you bite in. Chive dumplings: Silky texture, generous filling, and that fresh cilantro touch on top makes them feel light and satisfying at the same time. Spicy Dan Dan Noodles: Just the right amount of heat, coated evenly with sauce, and full of fresh herbs and bean sprouts. Definitely one of those dishes you can't stop eating even when you're full. Downside? No protein. If you love dumplings, this place deserves to be on your rotation. Get the soup dumplings, trust me. The reason for the 3 stars: 1. staff not speaking English well so couldn't explain the questions we had about the making of the noodles and dumplings 2. No proteins in Dan Dan noodles. read more
