One of my fav spots in Jax. The food is fire and so is the playlist. It had me singing between bites. We got the chicken soup dumplings, potstickers, chili dumplings, and some of the noodles. We also got some green tea and boba tea, which were both yummy as well. I believe I got the mango one that I really liked. The vibe is cool in here and the service is good. Cool little place located in an area surrounded by other restaurants. Modestly appointed with a couple of large screens looping pictures of menu items. Service was fast and friendly. QR code menus provide pics of the food along with prices. You order on a sheet in what I would describe as sushi style. Pretty simple concept. We started with edamame which came out fast. Chicken karaage followed close behind and I felt it was well executed. We asked for some sweet and sour sauce as none was served with the chicken. I found that kind of odd as I've had it served with a ponzu or spicy mayo other times at other establishments. The Mongolian beef was very good but my only complaint was the portion of beef in the dish. It's been like 100° lately so we weren't in the mood for soup dumplings. We placed a fairly large to go order for 430pm. I got a text saying it was ready at 425 so I came in, but ended up needing to wait about 10 mins. I'll start with what I would get again: the stir fried green beans, zen chili wontons, stir fry noodles, and the truffle pork soup dumplings. We got the signature sampler and I thought the truffle pork soup dumpling was the only one I would get again. The general tso chicken had good flavor but was super tough and stringy that we actually ended up throwing most away. Scallion cakes were flavorless. The rest of the things we got were just ok- Sweet & sour baby ribs, signature bao steam, shrimp & pork dumplings. Second time here. First time had the soup dumplings and it was good. This second visit was even better. The restaurant is located at a strip center near Baymeadows Road and Douthside Blvd, with plenty of parking. The dining room is clean and they have icons on your table so you can pull up the menu. So here are some notes on the food: Tea - I drink hot tea and they had delicious choices. Green beans - trust me, ORDER THIS DISH, so good. Soup Buns - we had shrimp and pork and thought they were great. Steamed Dumplinfs - we tried tge veggies and I think they were great. Wok - great choices, but note these are full portions, so it is a lot of good choices On my first visit, I ordered wrong and regretted it. We really enjoy Zen Dumpling. Best soup dumplings I've had in Jax. This last visit was on a Saturday night. Several tables filled but this is a big space so we were sat immediately. Scan the barcode and view pics of different items. Fill out the paper sheet and wait for the deliciousness to arrive. As usual, we ordered too much, but that means leftovers for another day. Got off of work a little early around 3pm with the co worker and we decided on Zen dumpling! Our waitress Suki was awesome! She explained everything on what we needed to know and expect. We went with her recommendations with the chili dumplings, cucumber salad, and fried green beans, yes those were all bangers 3/3!! The chicken soup dumplings (obviously)and pan fried bao buns were all extremely juicy and oozing out with juices. Make sure you make your ginger soy sauce and vinegar dip to round it out for a flavor bomb! I love how the place is very well kept and has a modernized minimalistic setting. This was my first time trying Zen Dumpling. The service was good and there is a large selection on the menu. This particular visit my food was okay. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. Now the Sake was a whole different story. I tried the peach and my friend tried the apple. Lol who knew those little bottles would creep up on us like they did. I definitely want to be open minded and try this place again. I'm sure there are ton of other options they have that are delicious. My friends decided to host a going away dinner here at Zen Dumpling and we all love dumpling so we were super excited. The restaurant is very modern and sleek. It's super clean too! We were seated right away and our waitress was such a sweetheart! She went above and beyond and made sure everyone was taken care of! We absolutely adored her! My husband and I had the following: Truffle pork Soup dumplings: 9/10 - they were juicy, filled with delicious broth and pork/truffle filling. We could taste the truffle flavor and it was aromatic and tasty! Each steamed basket comes with 6 dumplings and they were a great size! We enjoyed every bite of the dumpling. They had soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, and pickled ginger at the table to make your own dumpling sauce too! Definitely try the soy sauce, ginger, and chili oil concoction with your dumpling. It brings out alot of flavors. Crab and pork Soup Dumplings: 9/10 - I love seafood, especially crab and it was jam packed with crab flavor without overpowering the pork! My husband usually doesn't care for crab but he enjoyed this dumpling very much. No complaints here! It was juicy, savory, and lots of umami flavor. Chicken kaarage: 8.5/10 - My husband loves chicken kaarage and this was their version of it. It came out piping hot and the chicken pieces were juicy, flavorful, and crispy! We loved the batter and fry on it as they were fried to a nice, deep golden color and each bite was heavenly. Zen chow cold slice beef: 8/10 - I didn't really care too much for this, but my husband loved it. I think it's because I don't like beef cold but the flavor tasted good. I think it had a drizzle of hoisin or oyster sauce on top and sesame seeds sprinkled on. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't try this again. sweet and sour pork ribs: 9.5/10 - oh my gosh! This was probably some of the best bites of the night! The meat was tender and fell of the bone and you get alot of the rib pieces. The flavor was sweet with a hint of tang and that sauce was to die for! The sauce coated every crevice of the ribs and you get an medley of flavors with each bite. I absolutely would get this again! I think most people go wrong if all they order is dumplings. I would definitely order one set but you should order the beef roll-up it was my favorite bite. We got chicken and broccoli and a meat soup. A good variety of dishes made this a wonderful meal. They are also open on Christmas day. We ordered a taro milk bubble tea, pork soup dumplings, braised beef noodle soup, and fried chicken noodle soup. Everything was so tasty! Zen Dumpling does a great job with their variety and quality, all while housing it in a very trendy and modern interior. Unlike a lot of other places, these soup dumplings have a good amount of soup when you bite into them. They are super flavorful and the wrapper is just the right thickness. Their gyoza are great as well, with just the right amount of pan fried crispiness while the filling stays tender. They were enveloped with thin wrappers holding the meat and soup just nicely. I dipped it in my soy sauce, vinegar and red pepper oil mix and it elevated the flavors. Nice chunky shrimp mixed in with the pork. Loved the sampler as it had a variety of the soup dumplings. First time here and the person who suggested that I give it a try suggested their soup dumplings. Happily they have a sampler which includes one of each of the 6 flavors. The presentation was excellent, not only do the dumplings come out in a steamer basket, but they have all of the makings at the table so you can make your own dipping sauce exactly how you like it (mine was spicy!). The dumplings were all delicious and full of flavor. I wasn't decide if my favorite was the pork, or the crab and pork. Both of them were fantastic. They were out of the dessert I wanted to order, but that ended up being a good thing because I really wouldn't have been hungry for it if it came out.
