Zen has a nice aesthetic. Service was very attentive, friendly and helpful. None of the food was served particularly hot but definitely not cold either. Dumplings had a good amount of soup in them and held together till they reached my mouth. You make your own sauce with 3 ingredients on the table (plus ginger in the bowl they bring). I did like that though I expected some kind of mayo or ponzu with the karaage. It still tasted good in my vinegar soy chili concoction I made for my dumplings. I got a brown sugar milk tea to go. What a great spot for soup dumplings! Ordered the Signature XLB Sampler and the Shrimp/Pork soup dumplings and they came out piping hot and juicy. They were enveloped with thin wrappers holding the meat and soup just nicely. I dipped it in my soy sauce, vinegar and red pepper oil mix and it elevated the flavors. Nice chunky shrimp mixed in with the pork. Loved the sampler as it had a variety of the soup dumplings. Also ordered the sautéed green beans, Signature pan fried bao buns, hot and sour soup and Dan Dan Noodles. Absolutely loved the pan fried bao buns. Nice and crispy with loads of flavor. Noodles were warm with a peanut sauce with crunchy and fresh cucumbers. The soup was the right amount of hot and sour. They were pretty busy when we came in (Sunday lunch time) so there was a delay in service but otherwise they cleared our plates quickly and came to check in on us. First time here and the person who suggested that I give it a try suggested their soup dumplings. Happily they have a sampler which includes one of each of the 6 flavors. The presentation was excellent, not only do the dumplings come out in a steamer basket, but they have all of the makings at the table so you can make your own dipping sauce exactly how you like it (mine was spicy!). The dumplings were all delicious and full of flavor. I wasn't decide if my favorite was the pork, or the crab and pork. Both of them were fantastic. They were out of the dessert I wanted to order, but that ended up being a good thing because I really wouldn't have been hungry for it if it came out. I loved the flavor of this dish so much but I strongly recommend ordering this only if you love onion (which I do thank goodness) but even for me it was way too much onion. I wish there was more protein and less filler for this particular dish. The steamed pork and shrimp dumplings and the soup pork and shrimp dumplings came in second to the Mongolian beef. These lacked flavor for me. The first time I ordered the pork shrimp soup dumplings, they had way more flavor. Last night's tasted like they were not freshly steamed , and they did a quick nuke in the microwave to make them steamy again. The restaurant was very clean and pretty slow for a Saturday night around 8:30pm. Our service was okay. The first dish - the Mongolian beef: was dropped off at the table and the server was gone as soon as it hit. No "how does everything look, can I get you anything else" no check up on how it was once we started trying it, I had to wave my server down to politely ask for a fork and grab her attention. I looked around for other servers to possibly ask for something and they were in the back of the restaurant eating. The only server not eating was our server. I ordered a fountain drink at the start of my meal. At no point during the entire meal was I offered a refill. When the check was paid and the table was cleared, the server looked in my empty cup of ice and asked if I wanted more. great timing; as I'm on the way out. My dinner accomplice in crime had one beer. He was never offered another beer the entire meal either. If it were me I'd want to do anything I can to make the check higher as a server so that it shows I'm not only attentive and observant to empty beverages mid meal, but also offers potential for a higher tip but hey; that's just me. $53 later plus a tip; We left not very full. First time at this place. Nice clean interior and spacious layout. Service was excellent, helping us with food recommendations and the best way to eat the soup dumplings. We were very pleased to find scallion pancake on the menu - something you almost never see in Jacksonville - and something available at almost every good Chinese restaurant in the New York area. These were made perfectly and were not greasy. The hot and sour soup was excellent, another indicator that the restaurant knows what they are doing and there are Asians in the kitchen, not some guy from Guatemala (lol). Next on the order were Zha Jiang noodles (ground pork, rice noodle), shrimp fried rice, and soup dumplings with crab and pork. The ground pork "sauce" on the noodles was an interesting taste, with subtle seasoning that was hard to identify but very good / not spicy. The fried rice tasted like it was fried in butter, not oil - so a rich buttery taste that was a pleasant surprise. Finally got a chance to come here with my coworkers for lunch. The place was really clean and roomy, with servers floating around from table to table. From where I sat I could see the chefs making the dumplings in house. Three of us decided to get the Sampler Dumplings (Pork, Crabmeat & Pork, Chicken, Beef, Truffle Pork). We also ordered two of the Steamed Bao Buns, one of the Pan Fried Dumplings, and the Pan Fried Bao Buns. For me, the steamed bao buns were what I was expecting. I was expecting the really light and fluffy but these were shiny and dense with a strong flour taste to it. The soup dumplings were pretty good and my favorite was the Truffle Pork one. I'd eat alot of those by themselves. The person who ordered the pan fried items said that they were just ok. My group decided that the place was alright and only one person would return. The main complaint was the amount of dumplings/buns for the price. I didn't have a problem with this. I might return with that 1 person just so we could have more the soup dumplings. First time trying Zen dumpling! It was set up like a dim sum restaurant with your most popular Asian dumplings, appetizers and noodle dishes. My favorite order was actually the sweet and sour baby ribs. They had the most flavor, and didn't disappoint. The Xiao long Bao had a lot of soup in them, and I enjoyed trying the different flavors of the XLB flight. The Dan Dan noodles had more of a peanut flavor than other Dan Dan noodles, but it was still pretty good! I was a bit disappointed by the chili wontons and cucumber salad because they're usually my favorites at other dim sum and Asian restaurants, but it was lacking a certain savory, sweet and sour taste. Most of the food had a mild flavor, which can be accompanied by the soy sauce and vinegar on the side. My hubby and I have decided to do a tour of all the dim sum offerings in Jacksonville. Our first stop on the official tour was Zen Dumplings on Baymeadows. It's a pretty new place here in JAX. The interior is a clean aesthetic with subdued and simple colors. It's much more characteristic of a bigger and more modern city than JAX adding a level of sophistication sometimes lacking here. If you're expecting a typical Chinese restaurant vibe you won'lt get it here. We ordered the soup dumplings and an order of pan fried dumplings, aka potstickers. Luckily, our waitperson showed us how to eat these soup dumplings. They were delicious and the experience a new one for us! The pan fried were also excellent. The menu itself looks great and I'd definitely return to try other dishes and elements of the menu. The food is bright and fresh. Service was excellent! Newly opened Zen looks be experiencing some growing pains. There were a lot of people trying to get a table on a Saturday afternoon and they struggled to keep up. We heard them tell someone they weren't offering take out "today" and front of house sometimes seemed a bit confused seating the wait list in an orderly fashion. We saw some tables ordering using the pencil to paper menus and others via a server's handheld tablet. Not sure why the difference. The dining area was kept clean. We were pleased that they offered several nice wines. Individual entrees seemed to arrive as the kitchen finished them rather than everything together. The quantity of food for the cost seemed fair. I've been to a good amount of restaurants that had soup dumplings, but for some reason, Zen Dumpling just really reminds me of a more accessible Din Tai Fung. The beef pancake rolls were delicious and not as oily as I thought they would be. But probably not worth the $11.95 when you can get frozen scallion pancakes for cheap and just make this yourself. The braised beef noodle soup was good. And the noodles were cooked perfectly. But I was expecting like chunks of braised beef that fell apart in my mouth rather than thinly sliced pieces. And I wish the broth was a little more flavorful. The soup dumplings were delicious! The wrapper was a bit on the thicker side but they're a really good size and had a decent amount of soup. I also liked that they didn't serve it too hot because I'm the type of person to like eating soup dumplings whole so I was able to do that without getting burnt. But my favorite of the night was probably the signature bao pan fried. I feel like the bottom could have been a little more browned, but it was still crispy enough. And the bun was so juicy, it literally squirted out when I bit into it. So flavorful and so good. Would definitely get it again. We're new to the east coast and miss the comforts of some of our favorite foods from back home. This place hit the spot. We went fairly early- 5:30 and had zero wait. It was nice to see a ton of people pouring in over the time we were there. What did we order- I was on the fence about the green beans which our waitress assured that they're "really good". Man! They were fantastic! I truly mean that. Whatever the sauce is that they've got goin on these delicious beans is just delicious. I ordered the sampler of the soup dumplings -all delicious! The noodles were good- I prefer a chow mein noodle but it was good. I was not a huge fan of the pork rice kind of a different flavor that I wasn't at all expecting and wasn't a fan of. Hubby ordered the hot and sour soup very delicious! Very filling, great texture (hubby prefers a little more sour but then again he eats hot sauce on everything sooooo do with that what you will lol). My favorite dish was the green beans. It was cooked perfectly and I could have that alone. The dumplings were okay not as good that I had In Taipei, the original Xiaolongbao Dumpling House . Noodles were good but a little bit salty to my preference. Service was good, the server always made sure that my water was filled. The place is clean as well as the WC (toilet) . For those who have not tried Xiaolongbao dumplings , come and try it and once the dish arrives, dig in but eat carefully, poke a hole into the dumplings, let the steam out and savor the soup. The dumplings are pretty good--the shrimp and pork ones my favorite. All seem homemade and perfectly steamed or otherwise cooked (important, because at some dim sum restaurants I've had soggy, overcooked dumplings and at one, cold dumplings which raises a whole host of questions). I would not say however that any of the dumplings we tried rose to the level of outstanding: instead they all seemed pretty similar and none quite stellar. So, I guess the verdict is that Zen Dumpling is a good enough place for dependable dumplings but probably not the dim sum leader or really outstanding place some have hoped it to be, at least not in my book. read more

The place was clean and beautiful and they have a spot to look at them making the dumplings! We got the sampler dumplings which I recommend because it gives you one of everything. 10/10 (my favorite was the truffle) We got the steamed and fried bao buns. Both have same flavor just different texture. Stopped in for lunch with a friend & also picked up a to go order for hubs. Mid day mid week easy to get a table. Server approached us quickly & recommended a new menu item, bao mini steamed pork buns. My friend went for it & said it was delicious. We shared spring rolls which were nice & crunchy. My hot & sour soup was a huge bowl & the best I've had in Jax. I was too full after the soup for anything else but did taste my friends stir fried noodles. They were excellent. This also happens to be my husband's favorite thing here besides the soup dumplings which I also got to go. Overall, consistently good as this is about my 4/5 th time here in the last few months. Service was very prompt and efficient. When ordering a paper Dim Sum type menu is inadequate when you have people at the table who may not be familiar with the food. There is a Q R code menu if of downloads this became an issue. Pleasant decor and especially the open kitchen where the cooks were preparing the dumplings by hand. Hot & Soup portion was large enough for two and had all the flavors you would expect from this dish. BBQ Ribs were in a thick Hoisin sauce and too sweet. The Soup Dumpling(no photo) and BAO were locally prepared and very good. The Scallion Pancake was IMHO overcooked to a crisp. The Beef Noodles flavors were overpowered by the garlic and which made it difficult to taste anything else. The prices bordered on slightly higher for the Dumplings and BAO, but I understand they were not from a frozen package. We ended up eating apps and mains all together which just overloaded the table. I enjoy family style dining, but this was bit over the top. The Thai Ice Tea was very watery and had Boba pearls( (Not had before, even in Thailand.) read more
