Sometimes I Miss certain Spots that escape my Radar, But Yesterday I Had the Pleasure of Dining at Mali Thai Street Food for the First (but certainly not the last) time and it was an amazing experience. I got to meet Owner /Chef Austin and his Sister Chalisa who took care of me in the dining area, Chalisa helped me with some Pronunciation of the dishes and explained a lot of traditional dishes and some for American diners as well. You can't go to any Thai Restaurant and Not enjoy a Thai Tea which was made for me fresh by Chalis, she also informed me that "Mali" means Jasmine, which I thought was beautiful for the restaurant name. The Thai Fries had a Light somewhat sweet batter with a sweet dipping sauce (spicy available) I couldn't stop munching on them Both Wings had their own level of Spice, but the crunch & Heat on Laab Peek Gai was fan-freaking-tastic!! The Main dish that I couldn't get enough of is the Krapao Moo Krob + Kai Dao, if you only try one thing, get this dish and you can thank me later! This Truly Hidden Gem since the Built the @pinnaclejax apartments sits on the side of the plaza and needs more support from not only the community around it, but anyone that enjoys fresh Asian cuisine at its best. When you find this place, you'll be surprised it isn't raved about more! It's a hidden gem in the small shopping strip on baymeadows. The sign from the street just shows "Thai food" but when you walk in you feel a small romantic connection. (Hint a great tasty casual date night spot) the setting just feels soft and romantic, yet simple and vintage like. The customer service was sweet, soft, and personal and made it feel like a true family restaurant. Before ordering the aroma was delicious and I knew I could order anything because it smelt that good. I ordered the green chicken curry and it came with jasmine rice and the rice came out fluffy , perfect but the star was the flavors in this curry! I think the peas were the biggest surprise as I don't usually enjoy peas, but the curry absorbed perfectly into every part of this dish! I will say, I got a level 4 heat, and as it was delicious so I ate every single last bite, (even drinking the last dribble of broth) it was warm if you are sensitive to heat I'd say go a level less than you think! All around the experience at Mali was excellent and I would recommend it to any fan of Thai food or even Indian (as my best friend got a Indian inspired dish that was delicious as well with a full star anise in it) The price is about average to your Thai restaurant but the flavor is definitely above average. While in Jacksonville , I was invited to this restaurant during a Yelp elite event . Exclusive party pass elite received a complimentary Thai iced coffee or tea and one appetizer so while they enjoyed the freebies , I soaked in the ambiance. We ordered the panko shrimp to try as well and it was really good. Lightly breaded and crunchy and served with a side sauce. Because we had eaten earlier , we chose not to order dinner as well. I am not a fan of the Thai tea at all, a hard pass for me but I'd come back for lunch or dinner to try other menu items and desserts. There is a new contender for my favorite drunken noodles! I am always on the hunt for good drunken noodles and this is definitely one of my new favorite spots. They also have a great selection of Thai street food, much of which I haven't seen locally here on menus. I definitely want to go back and try more of that! The drunken noodles were just my taste test and they passed. Also the Thai coffee is amazing. The service is also spectacular. They were helpful in guiding thru some of the street food options and more than happy to share knowledge. It's also such a cute place! I love an authentic Mom & Pop shop. This place is located in the Deerwood area it's a hidden gem. The vibe inside is it's a local favorite as it serves the area. The Thai food here is made to order served hot. I ordered the Yelp specials first Spring Rolls & Thai Tea. Both delightful. The spring rolls were the best I've taste in a long time. Such a cute restaurant, and looks like it would be a great date night spot! Not only that, but the workers are so friendly and the food comes out so quickly. The thai tea was so delicious, I wish my cup was at least two times bigger, especially because it felt like most of the cup was just ice. It had the signature thai tea flavor that came through pretty well, but I loved that it wasn't too sweet. The gyoza were really crispy on the outside, and super juicy on the inside. I also really loved the sauce that it came with. And the pad se-ew was really good too. I love that the spice is customizable! Although I've never really had spicy pad se-ew before, I got the level 3 and it was the perfect amount. The chicken was kind of dry though, I'd probably go with another meat next time. Came for a Yelp Event, stayed for lunch! Inside is beautifully decorated. There are also 2 tables outside. Server was very attentive. Food came out in a timely manner. Absolutely love this place. Was my first visit, but I intend on coming back every time I visit. I've always wanted a place like this in Tampa. It has such a better menu of classics that we know here but also classic from Thailand. The Guay tiew rua neau was sooo good! The broth was rich but also balanced with the spice. This some of the best Thai food I have ever had. I got the panang curry with beef and the depth of flavor in this dish was something else. I've wanted to try this thai food place out, and I finally went here for dinner with my yelps friends :) I ordered the pad sea ew with beef and it was freaking delicious! The noodles were bouncy and chewy and the flavors were packed with the beef and a little bit of the veggies. I love pad sea ew and this place is it! I think I've found my place for this dish! I cannot say enough positive things about the ambience of this restaurant. It feels like your dining with relatives when you're there and it's just so quaint and inviting. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We came for a Yelp event but stayed for the delicious entrées. After lots of deliberating, I ordered the Krapao Moo Krob + Kai Dao. It was delicious, but the pork was a little on the salty side, which is often the nature of ordering crispy pork in a dish. I love this family owned and operated restaurant! It is situated in a plaza and there was plenty of parking. It's an intimate venue and decorated simple yet pretty with Thai decor. I am so happy I finally got to try Mali Thai because it was phenomenal! In addition to the cool ambiance and wonderful service, the flavors are authentically Thai and delicious! We had spring rolls and panko shrimp for starters along with the Wings Zabb and every bite was bursting with texture and flavor! I had no idea that this place existed in this area but once again thanks to Yelp I found another great spot. We came in for a Yelp Elite event but after checking out the menu I knew I had to get an entree after how good the appetizers were. Mali has the typical Thai option you are used to at most Thai Restaurants from Pad Thai to a number of Thai Curry's but they also have a whole selection of Thai Street Food options that I almost never see, Sorry Drunken Noodles today you are getting a pass. I got the Krapao Neau Toon + Kai Dao which is a Thai Style Basil sauce with Stewed or Braised Beef, bell pepper, Onion, green bean and Thai basil leaves. Topped with a fried egg. This was so good and I was also something I had never heard of. The beef was full of flavor and so tender it just melted in your mouth. I also was a big fan of the perfectly fried egg that came wit it. The runny yolk just pulled this dish together perfectly. Now one of our friends with us did end up getting the Drunken Noodles which I also go to try and they were great too. These noodles are saucy and that's how I like them. For sure a top 3 in Jacksonville. I also got to try Ashley's Krapao Moo Krob + Kai Dao which was similar to my Krapao Neau Toon + Kai Dao but hers had Fatty Pork Belly which I also very much enjoyed. Mali Thai is a small restaurant but they are packing big flavor with very friendly service. Well this evening was about getting together with my Yelp friends and along with Loan and my honey, Jimmy and Leah came to join us! Loan picked Mali Thai for our own small version of a UYE and it was good to get reacquainted with some superb Thai cuisine once again. It appears to be a good ma and pa shop. The seating is basic tables and chairs. I can't say there is anything that stands out about the decor. But on this evening, it was good enough for us to get together for dinner! We had pretty good service overall here. Our server took nice attentive care of us and checked up on us once in a while. I will say for those who come here take note! For any groups of five and over, they do require a 20 percent tip fee. It will be written into your charge here. I had to ask about it because this was the first time I've seen such a requirement but I know it's around at some restaurants. Our food was really good! On another note, Leah kind of warned us before we got started that Mali Thai doesn't give the largest portions on their main course orders. I would agree with that assessment upon eating there. But I didn't worry about that - I still brought some of my meal home. We started with chive cake and wings zaab for our appetizers. Both were pretty good! I'm not sure what was in the chive cakes (besides chives!) but the wings were gently friends with a solid sauce added to them. As for our meals, I found them pretty stellar. I really enjoyed my panang curry. I got it a little hotter on the spices side than I wanted but still managed to down it well have leftovers for lunch the next day. It was creamy and the chicken and the vegetables were cooked just right. Jimmy liked his pad Thai. It had shrimp with it, along with the usual spouts, nuts, etc. I can't recall what Dorcas, Loan, and Leah had, nor could I find pictures of these on the menu. But all three found their meals to be very good. It all made the visit there even better. This is a Thai restaurant I would visit again. They invest in creating quality meals done the right way. We've been to this Thai place twice now. I had forgotten about the first time until we got there and felt bad that I had suggested it to the group as our first experience wasn't that great. The food is okay flavor-wise and seems pretty authentic but the portions are kind of on the smaller side for the price. Additionally, the service is not that great. They seem to rush you with your order and out the door every time. Both times we were there an hour and a half before the closing time listed and they were already sweeping and cleaning like they were closing up right then and there. It just felt unwelcoming. Overall, this is not a place I would be thrilled to go to again. Maybe order take out if you want to try it as the ambiance is not the best. The restaurant is small with limited seating however, there is great attention to detail of the ambiance/decor. Service is a bit slow but always kind and helpful. This was my third and last visit to this restaurant. With so many excellent Thai restaurants in the Jacksonville area, average food cannot be recommended. First of all beware of the vegetable spring rolls. It is so obvious they use frozen spring rolls. They were completely devoid of taste and almost like a paste inside. Their cost is probably less than $.25 per and they have the audacity to charge $5 for two of them. This just made it twice as bad. Other Thai restaurants actually fill their spring rolls with real vegetables for almost the same price. Mali Thai can certainly take a page out of their book. I ordered the basil fried rice with chicken ($2) upcharge for the chicken. I am sure the chicken would have added to the flavor of the dish had they actually added chicken to the dish. What a disappointment! As I said, this was my third and last visit. I went there because I can walk from my apartment and did not want to drive. I should have driven as the fact that I would not have had to pay an extra $2 for the chicken would have offset the additional charge for the chicken. Oh!, one more thing. I ordered online (very easy) and requested pickup for 5:45pm. I arrived 10 minutes early perfectly ready to wait 10 minutes. The food was already on the table with my name on it. Had I arrived right on time, the food may have been cold when I got home. The food is average to below average. Portion sizes are average. The whole experience was average. Do your self a favor and visit some of the other Thai restaurants in town unless, of course, you are looking for an average experience. read more

This restaurant I believe, just opened last year. We arrived 5 minutes before they opened. There was a sign at the door and we thought they were closed! So it was actually a notice to inform the customers that they will no longer be serving sushi. Good thing we were not planning on ordering any of that. We started with appetizers, the Chive cake and Laab Peek Gai. Both were delicious! The Laab Peek Gai is a spicy chicken wings, not sweet compared to the Thai Zap Wings, they were crispy and perfectly seasoned! For the mains, can't go wrong with Shrimp Pad Thai and Chicken Red Curry! The depth of flavors were amazing! We got the medium spice and it was just the right kick! Only complain would be the portion, it was smaller than usual, especially the curry, there were very few chicken. But the sauce, wow! So good! The service and hospitality and overall ambience were the first things I noticed. Cozy restaurant with attentive staff. However, I am plant based so usually Thai restaurants are a safe go-to option. However, the only dish I could order was the pad Thai without egg. All the other noodle dishes contain oyster sauce that could not be removed. And typically, curry dishes are made with coconut milk and are easily plant based but these also contained half and half. The pad Thai was okay...it came out quickly and very hot (temperature hot; spice level 4 had just the right amount of kick) however the noodles were tough and chewy.
