All I can say is WOW...this place will take your breath away!! So my friends and I was out. Looking for something to eat. And we came in to Zen. First impressions was Wow the food was a good 10/10. The portion was very good for 3 people. The steak and broccoli was so good the orange chicken juicy and tender. The service was excellent they treated us so well. The ambience will have you feeling like you're dining in Manhattan. The music was great and playing all the good R&B music . My friends and I had the best time and will definitely be back for their bottomless brunch with a live dj. Go check them out tonight you will definitely fall in love like we did

Zen's Lobster Fried Rice

Went here one day while I was passing by Astoria and I have to say, this place was definitely upscale. I felt completely out of place in my tshirt and jeans, however the food did not disappoint. We got char siu bone marrow and it was definitely the highlight of the meal. The bone marrow was perfectly buttery soft and added to the depth of the already delicious char siu buns. We also got their zen lobster fried rice. Although it was definitely delicious as well, it wasn't my favorite. Another dish we tried was the wagyu crispy nigiri. Don't forget to get cameras out for this dish as they torch the wagyu at table side. We also tried the roasted pork belly. The pork belly was super tender however it was a little tough to eat as the crust of the pork belly was a little on the tough end. The servers were also very attentive, my friend and I definitely enjoyed ourselves. We paired everything with a nice glass of Cabernet.

Great, chill ambiance. Can be fitted for romantic/ family / friends type of vibe. Service staff was quite attentive, they check on us every 20 minutes or so, and asking if everything is ok. The dishes we got were tasty, though the pork belly skin was a bit sticky, can be stuck to your teeth great flavor and texture though. The decoration is the restaurant is hip and modern, also has this on the wall circle chair setting, perfect for Instagram photos.

The dinner at zen was very nice. The food itself was very tasty, although portions were a bit on the smaller size. The highlight of the night for me was the drink, I don't remember the name and can't find it on the menu but I closed a picture. Was SO refreshing and very well mixed. It was a bit warm in the restaurant, the front wall was open providing a bit of breeze but was sweaty through most of the meal

Babyyy babyyyy I love the customer service and the food here . I came here for my graduation dinner and ugh 10/10 I can't wait to go back. The passion fruit drink with the added prosecco amazing. You can get cute pics here because of the dim ambiance. The stuffed lobster so good. The veggie lo mein? Omg we ordered another round lol. The prawns? So good. I legit can just keep going . Just go okay. You won't regret it lol . Customer service was amazing can't wait to go back!

What a place!! The decor is 10/10. Sultry yet exciting. Beautiful art all over, different type of seating: table top, booth tables.. Service: our server Brianna was excellent and attentive. Food: fresh.. and delicious.. the chicken fried rice was 12/10. Veggies were firm and crunchy which I love. Orange chicken. Was moist yet crunchy and flavorful. Chicken wings were regular. Nothing to write home about, missing the flavor pop!! Would not get again. Drinks were a bit pricy but delicious.

My first time visiting zen Astoria, the ambiance is beautiful. Great for a date night or birthday. I attended a birthday dinner. It was a prefix menu Family style. You do get a lot of food and leave with leftovers . You can take a lot of pictures there the filet mignon and broccoli taste delicious and I love the lo mein. The dumplings was good as well and the sesame chicken chicken sat teas are usually my favorite at any restaurant that I go to that sells it, but this is actually my least favorite out of all the other restaurants that I have been to. I had a lychee martini which was OK and a strawberry lemon drop I didn't really like the drinks are different. They have an acquired taste if I will come back not really sure I have had better expensive Chinese food at other places.

We initially planned to go to a different restaurant but as we were waking by zen the music made us rethink our dinner choices for the night haha. Spontaneous adventures are always the start to a great night. Don't mind the cowgirl outfit, it's Halloween weekend. So the story goes like this, a cowgirl and Kim possible walked into Zen.. The host was super sweet. The place was pretty busy as expected for a Saturday night but we were able to be seated at the bar right away. The bartender was very attentive and the service was great ! The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is a 10/10. A sexy little date night spot..and in our case perfect for a girls night out. The crispy sushi was my fav. These quick bites leaves you hungry for more. The calamari to my surprise was amazing! Calamari is always a starter for my friends and I - it's been a while since I've had some that I enjoyed, so I wasn't expecting much here. I am so glad to say I was pleasantly surprised. 10/10 I went home and raved about to my sibling because they need to try these! The lo mein was tasty and the portion was hugeee. Glad we ordered to share! I would love to come back whenever I'm in the area next. Highly recommend!

I had to check this spot out as I saw posted on ig and reading reviews on yelp that came out for it. This is right across the street from Blend Astoria. They have different cuisines, but have the same ambiance. Making reservations is recommended! Once you walk inside you're greeted by loud music and nice ambiance. I ended up walking to the back for the restroom and there's a hookah area right off to the side. I spoke to the manager and he told me they do parties and for 8+ people it will be pre fixed. There were a lot of different asian fusion foods to try out. For appetizers, I had chicken satay which comes in three pieces with this amazing sauce. The wagyu crispy rice was great too. They ask how you want it made and that's how they prepare it for you. The roasted pork belly was good, especially if you pair it with a side of rice or the chicken fried rice too. The ube cheesecake was a great recommendation by the manager and the waitress. Wish it was a bit bigger. Overall, the food was good, but the service was a bit lacking due to it getting super busy and not having enough waiters on staff. If that gets fixed it would've been a better time!

Thank you Zen for making my solo birthday dinner a wonderful experience, great service, vibe, beautiful decor, nice playlist. The food portions are a bit small but tasty, loved the strawberry lemon drop. Was surprised they gave me a dessert & sung happy birthday to me, free of charge. Thankful for my waitress & another waiter who took my pics for me, being that I was alone. I will definitely visit again.

White wine
Marci A.

The food and drinks are overpriced for the area and what you get but the bartenders are super nice. We came in and sat at the bar and the restaurant is gorgeous, I had white wine because I wasn't necessarily wanting to drink too much and it was okay. A bit basic but something you can get anywhere. Then I ordered the lo mein and it was okay at best, it was missing flavor but the bartender was attentive and helpful so I guess come for that and skip the food.

What I came back for and then a little to go, but didn't end up getting anything to go

The restaurant felt homey and I could tell there were many regulars and other return visitors, for good reason! Ordered: Masala Chai ($4.50)- this tasted authentic, was nicely spiced, and wasn't too sweet. I only wish the cup was bigger. Steamed momo ($12+)- I like how you have the option to mix and match. We ordered the mixed vegetable and the oyster mushroom and surprisingly I much preferred the oyster mushroom variety. The mixed vegetable momo tasted more earthy to me. Himalayan rice set ($20.5)- this was a very nice assortment- there was rice, lentil dal, your protein of choice- (I chose beef brisket), stir fried cabbage, broccoli rabe, pickled vegetables and crisp flatbread. The only downside in my opinion was that the brisket wasn't too tender and I didn't love the beef flavoring or preparation. The rest of the items were so delicious! I've been thinking about this meal ever since I left the restaurant. You don't want to skip this place.

The empanada things were fine.

Be aware that the lighting is dim and the background noise is loud! The front bar room is so loud that you have to shout with your guest. Our party of 6 was seated in a tiny booth which we had to ask for an additional chair to accommodate us. Service (5/5): We were able to get someone's attention to order and we were refilled on water often. The food was organized by appetizers and entrees that arrive all at the same time. The wait between ordering and food felt reasonable to short. The waiter also specified that certain dishes quantity (i.e. potstickers) could be increased to accommodate our party size for an extra cost. Food (5/5): TLDR; every dish was honestly SO good; I was surprised and will rank the items by 'must get' to skippable: Short Rib Bao Bun (3 pc): The short rib was so tender and flavorful. The bao bun was soft. The sauce was thick and worked well with the short rib. Pork Potstickers (5 pc): I preferred this over the lobster and scallion dumplings. The exterior skin is pan-fried with a nice glaze, hint of truffle. The bite was umami from the creaminess of the Parmigiano Reggiano. Chicken Satay (3 pc): The 3 pieces of chicken were relatively large, very tender, seasoned well. They were well complemented with the peanut sauce that is worth keeping to dip into other things! Don't sleep on the side of spicy cucumber salad, which was so well balanced in tartness and flavor. Pad Thai: This is one of the best Pad Thai I've ever had! The flavors are bursting, with a balance of sweetness, nuttiness from the peanuts, and tartness from a squeeze of lime. Peking Duck for 2: This dish is definitely more than enough for our party of 6 and appeared to be a half serving of the whole duck. The duck pieces are pre-cut for us to self-assemble into the wraps (not the usual bao bun but like thin tortilla wraps). I think I counted 8 wraps? Triple Pork Fried Rice: The rice has a lot of depth and generous chunks of pork. The rice is thicker than regular jasmine with a more chew which I liked. Dragon Tail Spare Ribs: Although this has a nice flavor, handling with your fingers makes them super sticky for your whole dining experience. The restaurant should give out wet towelettes if this dish is ordered!! Meat was tender and easy to chomp off the bone. Tuna Tartare: A small quarter-sized tartare dollop is served atop a small cube bread. The fish was fresh, presentation was beautiful. Was hoping for more tartare for the price point but it was very good. Overall, the dish was not filling so would skip if the party is hungry. Lobster and Scallop Dumplings: Great flavor with reasonable chunks of meat inside. Just preferred the potstickers a lot more! Bok Choy: Pieces were chopped in half and cooked with a nice crunch. Topped with something that gave it more texture. The garlicy taste was forward (in a good way). Rainbow Roll: While it was fresh and the individual pieces were large in portion, this felt like any other sushi roll. Skip this! Side of White Rice is $9?! That's theft and is skippable The amount of food ordered was probably a little more than what we needed but glad we ordered as many as we did.

One thing that did make me feel uncomfortable was the hallway near the downstairs bathroom where a picture of a Buddhist monk in saffron robes was displayed. Personally, I felt it was not the most respectful placement. Overall, I still enjoyed the experience and would love to come back again to see the beautiful giant Buddha.

This sounded like a perfect savory brunch for someone who likes to try multiple things. Every item had been carefully thought through and very well executed. The potatoes were crispy on the edges and fluffy in the middle. The tofu scramble was soft and almost silky. The mushroom balls were delicious. They had a crispy exterior and a slightly chewy but not tough interior. I would order those on their own as an appetizer. The star of the plate for me was the bread. The owner who spoke to us told us he makes it himself and it shows how much care he put into baking it. The structure of the crumb was airy with a crunchy crust. I loved the addition of fennel and raisins for sweetness and a touch of warmth. The only small tweak that I would make to this is to add something fresh like a side salad or sautéed greens, as i think the bitterness would round out the flavors. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes!
