After missing a 7 am amtrak train to PDX and being recommended by the Amtrak customer service lady to check this place out while we wait 4 hours until the next available train, that was exactly what we did. Starting with americanos and pastries, which ended in my companion getting several more americanos (can you say 10+ shots of espresso before a bumpy train ride?) we sat around and enjoyed this cute little place until our departure time. I don't know why people are complaining about the service, yeah they might be hipsters but they were very friendly and skilled baristas. Not the best coffee I've had, but I'm no conosseiur- decent to good coffee with a nice selection of pastries and a GREAT place to sit around for a while when you have nothing better to do than take advantage of free wifi. This is an interesting coffee shop within walking distance of almost everything convenient. Was referred to this shop by someone I met at the nearby hostel. Barista was extremely friendly and helpful, not so much the cashier, but they were quick. Not sure if it was because it wasn't too busy while I was here, but it was a relaxing place to just sit back, sip, and read a book. The Italian sandwich I got was a bit over toasted, didn't sit well with the Chai Tea Latte I got, but that was my fault. And when I say Chai Tea Latte, I definitely felt the spiciness in taste. I agree with most of you that the coffee leaves me a little wanting, but the experience of the location is A+. Really wonderful to come in here on a quiet day, sit at the window and take your time. Not only is the outfitting of the building great and evocative, but even the brand graphic design is welcome and clean. Wish that they had wifi -- maybe I'm wrong about this, but the network was locked with no obvious guest password posted. They were playing some good music on our last visit. I can't complain, and I'm sure to be back. Seems even the local law enforcement prefers this place to the 'bucks on the corner and the Tullly's 5 feet away. After coming here in March, my brother, who lives in Seattle, has become obsessed with Zeitgeist. After I told him how pricey it is to buy local beans in Chicago, he told me that I had to definitely get beans from Zeitgeist since they are reasonably priced and taste great. I went over there today while I was downtown and picked up a bag of beans while I had my usual vanilla latte (which was great). I also asked about a photo that they have hanging and if I would be able to buy a copy. Everyone that was working there tried to figure out the answer but then ended up having me write down my name and email to have the owner give me a definitive response. I think it took 15 minutes for the owner to respond to me. Much appreciated (even though it wasn't the answer I was hoping for!). I know I'll be back for sure. And I'll have to figure out a way to import the beans into Chicago when I run out! :) read more

The "koffee" here was very dissappointing on a Monday morning. All the reviews got me hyped but I must say, I don't know what the hype is for because I've had many a better cup. I tend to like my coffee stronger and the one I had was weak. Maybe it was an aberration so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and try again because my croissant was actually really good as they warmed it up. Initially, I was a little intimidated by the long lines, but these people are professionals and that line moves fast! It's all the chatty regulars who slow it down with their "witty" morning commentary that they just have to drop on the friendly and patient staff. All of whom are funny, charming, and easy on the eyes! Having been a witty chatty regular myself now for 6 months straight, seriously, I'm here nearly every day of the week for coffee and lunches; they know me, my drink, and that I'm a maple bar eating fool. This is a nice cafe to grab coffee with friends and also large enough to find a quiet spot if you're looking to focus on your laptop (free wi-fi). The cafe is cozy (brick walls, high ceilings, and spacious) and decorated with local artwork, upcoming exhibit fliers, and artist designed postcards. The Barista's are friendly but not creepy-smily friendly and will often chat up the regulars. The drip coffee, walnut biscotti, and glazed doughnuts are DELICIOUS!... so much so that I had to use caps. I'm a sucker for aesthetics so should point out that their sugar display is attractive, clean, and always stocked. It looks like they use rough cut La Perruche sugar cubes (but I've yet to confirm that...and probably never will because, well, that's weird). Things you should know: They actually have a restroom for paying customers, coffee refills are $1, there's metered street parking (2hr max - $3) so monitor your time if you plan to sit a while, large windows surround the side of the building, letting in the Seattle "sunlight" and allow you to make awkward eye contact with random strangers walking by. Also, if you're reading or using a laptop then don't sit at the table near the condiments because some people will awkwardly hover behind you... they usually never approach but you can almost feel them breathing down your neck. read more

This place is awesome. My favorite coffee place in Seattle. Awesome staff (Very down to earth and not as snotty as you'd think. Ever think maybe they're just shy?), and great quality items. Their coffee is absolutely divine, particularly as Il Doppio. Plus they have lots of tasty things to put in your drink from powdered Vanilla, to "Chocola" (I think the T & E fell off), Cinnamon, etc. I no longer drink coffee so I don't come by as often, but when I do, there's always some interesting art, great music playing and tasty bites to eat. It's a great place to draw or read or chat with friends. So happy it's within a couple blocks of home! Rock on! read more

Quaint little coffee shop that the girl at Amtrack suggested. It was perfect, cute, quiet, with a classic feel. My dark mocha was delicious, and my husband really enjoyed his drip coffee. The dark chocolate mint graham was pretty tasty as well. The baristas were really friendly. Definitely a great little find! read more

There was plenty of seating to kill time here for about an hour/hour and a half. Lots of charging ports too. Just ask the barista(s) if you need to use the restroom since you need a code to get in. read more

A neighbor and myself meet for coffee once a week prior to going to work. My friend roasts his own coffee, so he is very particular about the coffee he drinks. If he doesn't like the coffee, we search for a better cup. In the past few months we have been coming to Zeitgeist because it is consistently delicious. I'm not sure what's the best coffee item to order at this cafe, but i thought my drip coffee was al'ght. I was impressed by their cream/sugar bar (i know silly me), granted they didnt have soy milk, but i was shocked to see lump brown sugar and lump white sugar... *weird* swanky! Yeah I dig this place. I have been there twice now, both times during the day. Good news is the parking Nazi left my car alone both times - nice. More good news - the coffee is nice - not strong like Peets, not harsh like Starbucks, just a nice cuppa joe that works. The room looks like what I would envision a "Seattle coffee bar" should look like - someone paid attention to the layout and the decor. I counted - fully half the people in the place had Windows running on their laptops. Hacker paradise!!! Both time I went the place was near full - lucky to grab the next to last or last table. This time I actually grabbed a table a whole second before someone turned around and said "let's sit here" - sorry about that - I have fast reflexes - comes from drinking a lot of COFFEE ... If you can find a place to stick yer car for ten minutes, go here and try the coffee. And, yes, people seem to like the pastries also...although I have not yet indulged ... read more

Great coffee and great ambiance. This place is right across the street from my work and it has MANY dedicated drinkers who choose it daily over the equally-conveniently located Starbucks and Tully's. The baristas are all very hip and very nice. It's pretty big for a coffee shop so it has plenty of seating. At any given time during the day you'll see the window seats full of people on laptops (don't they have jobs? or are they working at the coffee shop?). I'm pretty sure the coffee shop has been used in movies and commercials before because a couple times a year they close because film/camera crews are inside doing something. The have simple, cheap salads for a quick lunch option. You just feel good walking into Zeitgeist and even better walking out. They do their coffee right, both espresso and drip. read more

Great alternative in Pioneer Square to the coffee chains. Conveniently close to a lot of small tech companies and not too far from some of the courthouse traffic. Good drinks, delicious pastries, nice staff, and I really like that the tables aren't too small or crammed together too close. Makes this a good spot for casual meetings. Gets busy at times, especially with to-go customers, and the line can appear long. They seem to keep it moving at a pretty good clip. Sometimes it works to grab a table and jump up there when the rush subsides a bit. read more

This is my go to spot in the Pioneer Square/ID area. It's just blocks away from the Jackon St bus stop and King Street station, and also a good starting point for your Pioneer Square adventures (close to Intrigue Chocolate, London Plane, Salumi...) A nice coffee joint and a great place to sit and chill. The decor is great --30s and 40s, a nice departure from the IKEA-ridden Starbucks that are omnipresent in our fair city. As for their coffee, it's pretty tasty. Their chai is spiiiiiiiicy -- almost peppery, so be sure to get it with milk unless you enjoy having hot HOT drinks in the morning. :) A hazelnut latte on a separate occasion was smooth, not burnt, and flavored with just enough syrup so it wasn't overly sugary. If I find myself in Pioneer Square jonesin for some caffeine, Zeitgeist is definitely my joe of choice. read more

I was in love with this place the minute I walked in. I lived in Vienna for 6 months and this venue reminded me of a modern Viennese coffee shop complete with tiny spoons and delicious coffee, each cup carefully crafted to perfection. The baristas were very kind, helpful, and accommodated an "extra foam" request sans scowling. The mocha was amazing, just enough deep dark chocolate to keep me satisfied for hours. in a city nationally known for its coffee, I am happy to have found the place that has the perfect cup. First of all, they have rice milk, which made my heart all fluttery the first time I saw it. I rarely deviate from my extra hot rice latte, but I know that all of my co-workers prefer Zeitgeist to the other coffee places nearby. The atmosphere is spot-on, and I look forward to seeing the different floral arrangements that are brought in each week... some are really rad. and I don't know why it is such a difficult thing, but I always ask for my drinks extra hot, and half the time places other than Zeitgeist serve them to me a little hotter than lukewarm. Zeitgiest was one of the first coffeeshops I visited in Seattle. I had just moved here, and I was looking for some caffeinated beverage and free wi-fi to start setting up things at my new home. Walking into Zeitgiest, I felt like I had instantly found the ideal Seattle coffeeshop, and wondered if all coffeeshops here are this cool. The decor is perfect: exposed brick, interesting but not disturbing art, lots of wood, a mixture of tables & bar stools. The baristas are super-nice and most importantly, the coffee is delicious. I've tried my few favs, iced americano for the summer, caramel latte for when it's more chilly, and they make them all delicious. And last but certainly not least, they have more than just soy milk for vegan options! They've got rice milk too! Zeitgeist has a superb espresso, but the flavor is lost in a latte. If you like a mild latte or a sweeter shot of espresso, Zeitgeist is perfect. A plus is the terrific atmosphere and music. I think I would have enjoyed Zeitgeist more if it weren't for the service--your typical coffee house hipsters with attitude and stoic personas. Bring a book and enjoy the urban view through the beautiful, large windows that give you a panorama of the street. read more

We stopped by again yesterday and this time I had my own drink. The cafe au lait was perfect! I love the simplicity of this place. It feels like a classic coffeehouse with the diffuse light streaming from two walls of windows, a high dark ceiling and only one choice (that I'm aware) of bean served the many ways of the modern cafe. The staff is without smiles or a kind word, but they serve a great drink and they even offer cubes of white or brown sugar at the condiment stand so I stand by my original 4 star opinion. I can't understand the line at the Starbucks at Pike (even though I know why) when they could have a cuppa here! read more
