Medium Iced Latte
Fahima R.

I stumbled upon this cafe recently because I needed a new coffee spot and I'm really glad I did. Their iced lattes are really good and they have an assortment of pastries. The cheese danish is very tasty. The interior of the cafe is really nice. It's small but it's clean and has a little bit of space if you want to sit for a while. The service was great they were really sweet!

There's bread, and then there's the kind of bread that has practically a line around the block (well...not really- but in many ways it does). I'm not getting into Zaro's lengthy history, but will mention, this particular Zaro's- is Parkchester's best-loved treasure. Original location was just a couple doors down, directly across the Parkchester 6 train Line. I don't know how long Zaro's has been in the area, but I've been coming here since the mid 80s. When news broke out that Zaro's was closing its doors a few years ago to make way for a Boston Market, everyone felt a sense of sadness. I was mind-blown when they came back to their stomping grounds soon after. The spanking NEW Zaro's still has all the goods they're known for- but in a smaller space. They still have the very best loaves- Challah at that, rolls, pastries, and pies and so much more. Stopped in on a Saturday morning to grab Mom a sliced Challah Bread loaf, Spinach-Cheese Croissant thingy and a few other pastries. Service is still- so, so, so friendly. I'm confidently going all in with a 5. Just because they're in The BX, staying true to their family tradition, back in action in the community, excellent food and tasty pastries and service. What more do you want? Zaro's really goes above and beyond. And truly digging how Zaro's is still stepping their history several notches up right in Parkchester.

Horrible B&W Cookies, Dry, Chemical Taste, Badly Packaged, Not Authentic, Sad.
Craig S.

I am so very disappointed. I am a relocated NY'er and I really wanted some B&W Cookies. I ordered a Dozen that were sent overnight. Cost about $10 per B&W Cookie. I really miss the B&W Cookies from NY and wanted to treat myself, my excitement was overwhelming, until I got them and saw them, how they were wrapped and then it got worse when we tasted them. The box and the safety of delivery = Great, no issues. The issues are below. The cookies are wrapped in cheap plastic so the icing is attached to the plastic and not the cookies. You have to scrape the icing to get them to "sort of" stay on the cookies. The cookies themselves do not taste authentic, they taste cheap. The cookie/cake itself is hard, very dry, has a chemical taste I cannot put my finger on it. Not like the Cookies, I get when in Brooklyn. There is no moisture, so hard and pasty. It's supposed to be more of a cake than a cookie and this is neither, it's like biscuit or pancake dough? No hint of vanilla or lemon. It's like they've been frozen/defrosted and then stored for 2-3 years before sold. The icing almost tastes spoiled, a bit rancid. Not the typical NY B&W Cookie icing. Very thin, many areas of the cookie are missing the icing. I understand keeping the costs down, but not sure what "out of the box" mix they're using but it's past its use-by date. $110 tossed away, and worse, my excitement to get some authentic B&W cookies totally demolished. They should be ashamed to sell and ship these cookies.

Everything sparkles because the store just opened. A new, small, boutique-style pastry/coffee shop back at the Parkchester stop on the 6 train line. A different design and great improvement from the previous locations that was a few doors down. A young gentlemen greeted me from behind the counter as soon as I opened the door. There are several different treats to choose from. Even a "Cretzel" which apparently is hybrid of a croissant and a pretzel ($2.99). I went with a cheese danish. It was fresh, sweet and flaky. All the individual treats are about $3 each. One observation that can be improved upon is customer can actually get a little too close to the goods. The glass/ sneeze guard should be higher or the pastry should be better protected. Sorry admittedly a little germaphobe over here. Overall glad to see that Zaro came back to the neighborhood.

This Zaro runs out of everything around 2pm. This is very frustrating because the food is really good.

One of the top Italian bakeries in NY and an absolute must stop when visiting Arthur Ave. You walk…read morein and you feel like you just stepped back in time to your childhood when more of these Italian American bakeries existed. Bread, cookies, and pastries are all showcased and it smells great. If you go during the afternoon during the week it won't be as crowded as it can get on the weekend. Everything here is terrific. Whenever I'm in the area I'll bring home a pound of assorted Italian cookies, I'll also grab rainbow cookies and cannolis. Their cannolis are terrific, some of the best in NY. Yes, NY, not just NYC. I think what makes their cannoli stand out amongst some of the best is their shell. It's always fresh and crispy. Their filling is a little more vanilla forward compared to other NY institutions version of the cannoli, so keep that in mind when trying one. I'll put it to you this way, if you like Italian pastries, especially cannolis make this place a destination to visit, give them a try and see how it ranks up compared to your favorites. And while you're there, take in the rest of Arthur Ave! Oh, I almost forgot. They have what my husband says are the best savoiardi cookies in the state. They're always fresh, soft, slightly chewy in the middle with a delicately crispy exterior. They're to die for with a hot cup of coffee.

Situated perfectly in the middle of Arthur Avenue, Madonia may not be hidden, but it certainly is a…read moregem. As you enter its doors you're hit with that sweet bakery smell of fresh bread and classic Italian confections. The ambiance is classic and unassuming, letting the treats that fill the glass displays and what I dubbed the 'biscotti wall' take center stage, deservingly so. The service was outstanding, as the staff masterfully took care of the hefty crowd that was there while I was...boxing cookies, explaining biscotti flavors, preparing coffees, and filling cannoli to order. The olive bread was incredible, and is worth the trip alone. They have more biscotti variety than you could imagine, all which look and sound amazing. Great selection of breads, cookies, and other classic Italian sweets. We opted for a few cannoli to accompany our olive bread, and they hit the spot. The shell was outstanding- crispy, held together well, and good flavor. The filling had nice flavor, but was a bit too sweet and the consistency was a tad pudding-ish for my particular preference. Next visit we will definitely be sampling more from the biscotti wall, and bringing home more of that olive bread! Great, can't miss spot!

Antonios Trattoria in the Arthur Ave section of The Bronx was absolutely wonderful. The staff…read morecouldn't have been more friendly, professional, or accommodating. We chose this spot for a family reunion, and they made us feel genuinely welcomed from the moment we walked in. The food was incredible. I had the Pork Chop Scarparo--perfectly cooked and full of amazing flavor. The pasta was spot‑on too and cooked just right. I had the garlic and oil side dish which was simple but delicious. There are plenty of great places in the area, but Antonios definitely deserves a spot on your list. It made our family gathering feel special, and the meal was unforgettable.

THE FOOD ----------------…read more+ Fried Calamari - Very crispy and as you would expect of any good fried calamari appetizer. Came with a small bowl of marinara. + Baked Clams Oreganata - LOTS of flavor. It was savory with the herb- and garlic-infused breadcrumb mixture and baked perfectly. + Chicken Marsala - 2 pieces of flattened and tender sauteed chicken breast with sliced mushrooms all around. Chicken was drowning in a suppppper delicious marsala wine sauce. Unfortunately, it was not served with any pasta to soak up the sauce. + Fruitti Di Mare - LOTS of delicious seafood - clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp - in marinara sauce. All of the seafood sat on a bed of spaghetti. + Kids' Spaghetti and Meatball - Solid spaghetti and meatball and what you would expect for a kid portion. + Kids' Chicken Parm with Ziti - DELICIOUS parm and sauce. One can argue that this was actually enough of a portion for an adult! + Nutella Pizza - Soooooo gooood. Super warm, thin, savory, a little sweet. Honestly, the best part of our meal. + Menu was traditional Italian and had a lotttttt of delicious foods that we wanted to try, but we only had so much space. THE SERVICE ------------------- + Food came out pretty quickly. - Waiters didn't give us much attention and when we were handed the bill, the waiter just kind of dropped it on the table and walked on, which was strange. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------- + 2 adjacent dining rooms. Main dining room includes a bar and TVs, while the 2nd dining room is more spacious. = Entire bar area was filled with diners and folks watching college football. - Street parking only and can be challenging to find a good spot during weekend dinner hours. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Walked in with a party of 8 at 5:30 PM on an Autumn Saturday evening and were accommodated with a table immediately. = Was pretty crowded on a Saturday evening and there was a wait for some folks who arrived around 6-7 PM, but no wait before 6 PM.
