Somehow, the store doesn't think it necessary to distinguish between mens and womens apparel. Many womens athletic clothes don't use numeric sizes anymore, using S, M, L. It can be difficult to recognize that one rack has mens and the next one womens This morning I went there to get some shirts and a fall jacket. My shopping was interrupted by a saleswoman who asked me if I was looking for mens clothes. This after I had been in the store for a good ten minutes, mistaking some racks for mens and vice versa. I said I was. She then proceeded to try to explain where the mens clothes were. I didn't quite understand her and needed clarification, what racks are for men? For some reason, she took umbrage at my confusion and replied dismissively about one side of the store being for men. I asked if it included the wall racks. She said the right side of the store was for men, giving me the impression that helping me was low on her priority list. When I said, of course, all stores are men on the right and women on the left, another saleswoman chimed in with an "I beg your pardon." So I repeated myself. I had two shirts worth $200 in my hands and had come in prepared to spend at leadt that much, but after the attitude and treatment I received, I decided to buy what I had and leave. At the counter the saleswoman folded my shirts and then just stuffed them in the bag. I've been shopping here for nearly twenty years. Never again and I will tell everyone who will listen to me about this experience. Shabbiest treatment I've gotten from retail in decades.

Eagle Shoe & Boot saved my shoes!…read more Since I am in Great Barrington for a little while, I'm doing my best to patronize the businesses here, but have been frustrated at the lack of great service (so far, both dry cleaners in town have completely screwed me over), so when I ruined one of my shoes, I figured I would have to toss the pair, or take them home to Boston to get repaired there. However, figuring I would give a local merchant ONE LAST TRY, I went into Eagle Shoe and handed over my sad shoe, and the nice guy (who I think is the owner) said it would be no problem and I could pick it up the next day. My shoe was repaired for just $8, no tossing of an expensive pair needed, and my faith in humanity has been restored.

The young woman who came over was clearly poorly trained in customer service or else failed to gain the most basic customer service skills because she immediately suggested it was my fault for not waterproofing the boots. I showed her the tag on the boots which says "Waterproof." Then she said it was probably my sweaty feet. She did not examine the soles or seams because she didn't want to touch my "dirty boot." When I asked to see the manager and followed her to the office, she shooed me away, presumably because she didn't want me to hear what she was going to say. The manager offered store credit and I would have had to give my boots to her then and there. Leaving me to go home in my socks? I told her that I was a loyal customer for many years and had bought footwear from them when I could have got it cheaper online, but I like to support local businesses. I told her that she had lost a customer. Next time I'll try shoes on for fit and then order online for a better price and hassle-free returns/refunds. Well why doesn't the darn flyer say that? They told me there was a half "outer page" on the flyer previously that stated what exactly the "early bird" special meant and when it ended. Problem is they also told me they purposely took it off "too end confusion". Well why doesn't the main flyer say anything about this limited time offer. It only states "Sale runs through 12/1/13".

He listened to me talk about the many ups and downs in my relationship with running; he even looked at my old running shoes while assessing me. He did thorough measurements and studied my gait; he than retreated to the store room and made a selection of the shoes he thought would be the best for me and my issues. I went in just to let them know about the issues, hoping I might be able to get a new locking mechanism and suggestions of how to care for the shoes. They replaced both without being asked. But the Troy store being closer to home can be utilized for picking up special order items or making exchanges. This saves a second drive to the north country. I recently changed my mind on some slippers that I had purchased at the Lake George location and brought them the next day to the Troy location to see what was available for an exchange. Staff were very helpful in identifying what I was looking for and I was able to immediately replace one pair of slippers while a second pair were located in their Manchester, VT store. Troy staff called Manchester and had them ship my order to the Troy store. The following day I received a phone message that the slippers had arrived from Manchester and were available for pickup. You can't beat service like that.

Quality clothing is worth the price in terms of fit and longevity. The sales staff are very friendly and helpful and well informed about their products. What is especially nice is when they offer sales. My wife picked up a beautiful brand name coat for a substantial discount over the price on the tag. Of course the tag price is just something someone made up and not based in reality- however- it was nice to be able to pick up such a beautiful item at a very reasonable price.
