I always appreciate the great selection they have and I purchased walking shoes and a travel bag for a trip. I loved both the shoes and the bag, but the leather on the sneakers began shredding in a number of places and the locking mechanism on the travel bag fell off and disappeared. I went in just to let them know about the issues, hoping I might be able to get a new locking mechanism and suggestions of how to care for the shoes. They replaced both without being asked. Full disclosure: I worked for the Shoe Tree in the summer of 2010, but I think 2 years is a long enough time to give a unbiased review. This is a great store if you are looking for quality, well fitting shoes. They might not have the most popular shoe at the time, but they have a great selection. They do have a ton of popular brands: Sperry, Uggs, Birkenstocks, Keds, NAOT and many others. If you can't find the exact size or color, Ralph is more than happy to order it for you. They also sell shoe inserts, socks, and tights. The price is also perfect for the shoe quality, and the expertise that Ralph and his co-workers offer to customers. There is also a sale section in the basement, you can often find a pair of last season's offerings at 50% off or more! Something that they don't advertise, but is really helpful: they have shoe stretchers in back, which is helpful if your new pair of shoes is a bit too tight. They also provide bags for the Birkenstock repair service. If you are if the Brattleboro area, the Shoe Tree is a great spot for quality comfortable shoes and fantastic service. The Shoe Tree is a great shop. They have a wonderful selection of shoes and great styles of socks too. The owner brought out what we asked for but other styles too. Great move we bought several instead of one style of shoes. We had a great conversation and will visit them again when we are in the area. He does a nice little business there. read more

I've purchased all of my shoes here for many years. It is nice to know that those of us who work on our feet can have such a huge selection of stylish shoes. Wonderful shoe store. It's so rare that shoe stores know how to correctly fit feet and actually care that they do. The Shoe Tree does both *and* manages to do it with a fair amount of style. Living in BVT for two and a half years, I have gotten to know the stores here fairly well. Since moving to BVT, I have gone to Shoe Tree many times to buy socks and shoes. But not until now did I have a bad experience there. I went in to look at some Birkenstocks that I had been interested in for a while, the Arizona style. I have a pair of Mayari Birkenstocks that I bought online in a 38 and wanted to know if I should buy a 38 or 37 for Arizonas. I was interested in buying the Arizonas at Shoe Tree because it is right in town and supporting local businesses is awesome. I go in there, ask for a 37 and 38 to try on because I had bought a pair of Mayaris online in a 38 and had them at home and wanted to see if a 38 would be okay for the Arizonas because I didn't want to end up buying some online and having them not fit. Now, by no means did I mean "Oh I want to try on these Birkentsocks here so I know what size to buy online". Nope. Not what I meant at all. The person working there, not Ralph, mind you, gets the shoes, comes back out, and before handing me the box, says, "So, let me get this straight. You came here to try on shoes to see what size fits you before going online and buying some?" And I said "Yeah!" Before I had the chance to say "I wanted to buy them here instead" the person immediately yelled "Are you kidding? That is not happening. You want to come in here just to see what size fits before you go buy them online? That is incredibly rude. Leave the store." So, shocked, I didnt know what else to say, and I just left. After being in shock, I realized that the person working there had misunderstood me entirely. Even if I WAS doing that (which yes, I know is very rude) the salesperson's reaction would still be innapproriate and bad customer service. I left the store feeling not only shocked, but embarrassed and humiliated. There were other people in the store as well! Public humiliation is not a component of good customer service. Sorry, Ralph, but this must be an employee I haven't met yet. You have always been more than polite whenever I have come into the store before. read more
