This is my favorite shop on the east coast. It's a perfect place to buy gifts - from elegant tea accoutrements to unique jewelry to funny books from the UK. In addition to gifts I've found many of my favorite things here including a perfect summer dress from Spain, a striking angora hat, and a unicorn glass and dish towel set. The shop's owner, Penelope, has extraordinary taste and there's always new stuff arriving. She's also very friendly and full of good ideas if you're feeling particularly indecisive about what to get for the person who has everything. I really can not recommend this place enough. This shop is a can't miss if you're in Vermont, Massachusetts or New Hampshire (it's worth the drive!). read more

Visited the store yesterday as my niece told me it was one of her favorite stores in town. She picked up two ceramic bowls and checked the price on both and the price tag for each was $10. We left the bowls at the register as we continued to browse the shop. When she went to pay for them the owner looked at the price and said it must be wrong. She tried to look them up but couldn't find them in her inventory and told her she better leave them and not buy them. I stood up for my niece and told the owner she should honor the price and she told me that this isn't Walmart and once again insisted we leave the bowls. I have never been treated so rudely and I guarantee we will never return to this store again. You have no customer service. Even Walmart would have treated us better read more

Last week while at Gallery Walk we decided to stop in to look at their items after some vintage decorations caught our eye at the door. When we walked in we were warmly greeted by the owner who not only struck up a great conversation but also offered us snacks as we shopped. The shop itself was packed with a ton of different home decor items as well as some unique gift ideas. Some of my favorite items had to be their books which humorous and endearing. Overall, this was a great little shop with a lot of unique items. The staff was great, but the only minor critique is that their items were price is a little high. Beyond that, it is definitely a place I would go back to in the future. read more

Cute items but an awkward shopping experience. I did not feel comfortable shopping here and though I made a purchase, I will not be returning. There was a bit of an insinuation that I'd stopped by for "ideas". I'm assuming she meant to say that I was planning on purchasing items I'd seen in her shop elsewhere when in fact, I'm just somewhat new to Brattleboro and had never come into the store before and just wanted to support a small, local business. Liked this business at one point. However... tried to return a product in perfect condition (except one crease in the packaging) and she would not return it... not even for half price when I asked. This store is not inexpensive...so not being able to return an item here is a hig deal. Awful customer service! Stopped into this shop last weekend and should have walked right out. It was my very first time in Vermont and I was checking out the downtown area of Brattleboro. I saw this shop and walked in since I love the Arts and little unique shops. As I browsed around Penelope was helping a customer and sounded very kind and pleasant to her smiling and all. After constantly looking at me she finally asked me very sternly" Can I help you with something?" I told her no thank you I was just browsing and gave her a smile. She had a serious look on her face and went back to what she was doing. No let me know if you do, no smile, no have a nice day as I walked out. It felt as if she didn't want me in her store. Now I can say that my experience in other stores around there were the exact opposite, so I will be back to Vermont but just not to this shop. read more

Gorgeous store with a ton of great gifts, including quirky cards and books, posters, scarves, jewelry, home decor, and beautiful glass pieces. The items are all high quality, and there's a significant amount of British candies, cookies, and other treats as well. Definitely check out the upstairs section too--there's more jewelry and wall hangings up there. I was purposefully made to feel uncomfortable. The woman operating the shop took the pillow out from between my lower back and the chair abruptly, while I was seated outside, waiting for a friend who was happily shopping in her store. She doubled up the pillow on the empty chair beside me and told me, "these pillows are for sale." I thought it was really mean to do that and feel quite insulted. What she seemed to be saying was leave now. If you don't want people sitting in front of your store. It's simple; don't put chairs there. If you selectively decided I wasn't good enough to sit in front of your store or use the pillow for the intended purpose. Then, you're being mean. I'm a little bit shocked. Nobody has ever treated me that way before, I'm still confused where the aggression came from. She came up from behind and just yanked that pillow right out, and informed me in a reprehensible manner, that the pillow, was for sale. Ouch. read more

i love visiting this store. what usually happens is i go to get a gift (house gift, holiday gift, birthday gift) and end up buying myself something, as well. can't help it - the selection of items (from whimsical little trinkets to decor pieces with big impact) is so lovely and unique, so eye-catching. i have found the staff always warm and welcoming, and the treasure-filled shelves consistently full of surprises. this place reminds you why it's more fun to go to a good store than to buy something online. read more
