We stopped in because of the cute window displays and weren't disappointed. The staff was friendly and helpful. They had a great selection of used items (with some vintage ones sprinkled in) and a few new items that were fun, too. They have a good selection of nice quality boots and I found an awesome plaid skirt that I love. The owner even offered a discount when it was damaged, which was much appreciated. There's a great variety of wonderful wears, fun jewelry and great pieces for completing or creating an easy fashionable look. The used clothing is a bit pricier then I would expect out of this kind of a store. I checked some pieces and the difference from the new price was negligible. The men's section isn't lacking which is refreshing. Some of the pieces they carry are a little pricier and when I asked it was for good reason: a dresses made by a woman in California who creates her own fabric designs and then uses them for her own fashion designs. *worth it* read more

Boomerang reminds me a bit of the Buffalo Exchange chain of resale shops. The store offers a good mix of new, never worn fashions, as well as contemporary consignment pieces (mid-range labels like J. Crew, Gap, Abercrombie, Ann Taylor were well represented), and an excellent selection of vintage as well. It was helpful that the vintage pieces were tagged with the decade and noted if the item was a) gently worn or b) brand new with tags. I found quite a few gems, including a heavy woolen nurse's cape from the 1940s and a cream-colored Michael Kors dress with gold hardware. I also coveted a red leather jacket from the 1940s that came with a number of interchangeable equestrian badges but it looked a lot better on the rack than on me...sad, but I'm sure it will find a good home :) Prices were generally reasonable except for a few pieces here and there. The shoe selection was just OK, but I did spy a few nice handbags! Just one more reason for me to come back to Brattleboro soon... read more

Love this place. Great selection of hard-to-find new clothing -- they nail the SUPER comfy yet completely adorable category. I'm a big thrifter, and find the pricing to be fair and expectable for thoughtful and quality consignment. Great selection of local jewelry you can't find elsewhere. I like boomerang, but I also really do not like boomerang. Sometimes you can find a nice steal in their consignment section, but a majority of the time it is overpriced. I've taken advantage of the consignment trade-in program they have, but it's almost not enough to save my sour opinion of them. They always treat people like they're going to steal something. It's awkward and unnecessary. And in the front, where they showcase their new items, it's always filled with cheaply made, but overpriced items... It's always poorly made and uncomfortable, I've bought a few dresses that were made with this weird rough or polyester blend and they've fallen apart or irritated me so badly that I've thrown them in the back of my closet. And most of said dresses are priced anywhere from 40-70 dollars... (If you have to have it, look at the tag and find it online, SO MUCH CHEAPER.) I've also heard strange things about the owners, but I won't go into that... I just feel that the owners are pretentious and condescending... Not exactly welcoming... Don't get me wrong, I'm a big supporter of local businesses, but there's a difference between local prices and gouging customers. The reason I would recommend this place to someone would be if they're looking to get rid of some clothes for a store credit, the only reasonable way of purchasing items through them. I hope in the future the owners decide to reevaluate their strategies and start treating their customers as friends and less like enemies. read more

Ok, I'll admit it... Boomerang is one of the reasons I moved to Brattleboro. I love this place! Definitely one of the best shops anywhere for the hip fashionista on a budget. The stock changes all the time, but on a typical day you'll find Betsey Johnson, Free People, 7 jeans, casual basics from Banana Republic & J. Crew, high-end pieces from names like Marc Jacobs, DVF, Burberry, and Chloe, as well as a carefully curated selection of new items from small indie lines. Great stuff in superb condition (the owners are very careful about what they sell) at prices way, way, way below what you'd pay in the city. On top of which, Boomerang is fun to visit! The music's a blast, the decor will make you smile, and the staff always takes the time to help you figure out if something's right for you or not. Definitely worth a special trip if you're anywhere near southern Vermont. Better yet, stop in regularly to check out what's new before it flies out the door. read more

I love this store! Brattleboro is a small town, but being on the 91 corridor we get an influx of urban visitors and, in part to that, Brattleboro has become a microcosm of a much larger city. This store thrives because of the quality and style of new and used clothing they get. It is very much like a Buffalo Exchange- a mix of new, used and vintage clothing, but all of a distinctly hip variety. As a matter of fact, they frequently reject my used stuff as not being cool enough...and I don't often disagree with their assessment. I am a local business owner and, like Matt and Loretta, the owners, have lived in cities for a good portion of my life. Matt and Loretta have helped to give Brattleboro its stylish edge and I am thankful they are here. Keep up the good work and don't listen to the haters who simply don't get it. read more

No rating.... I went too boomerang couple weeks ago. Never ever step foot in that establishment ever again... I was so shocked at the owner Loretta's unprofessionalism. I had never stopped in the store before. I'm a local for many years and proud too call myself an original native. I live alone and sometimes during this covid pandemic I go days without any interaction with people so when I do get a chance too make small talk I do. The young lady Emily that was assisting me was so kind, there were no other customers in the store, there was 4 workers that I saw. While discussing with Emily at the register the upcoming Zara bode Christmas show, which I was excited about, this lady kept interrupting Emily's and mine short conversation, at least 4 times. Very rude too the effect. Finally she snapped at myself and her employee, saying that it wa# time too stop talking and get too work. Very rudely as well. I then told her I would not participate in any of her shows nor come in her store again. I left crying and was very very upset. I came home and wrote something on her Facebook wall and it was immediately taken down. She then wrote an email saying she was sorry, and was having a bad day. I have heard many times thruout the last few weeks that this is the norm for this woman. I will not step foot in her store ever again. How can she continue too stay in business? What a HUGE disappointment. Boomerang is a small version of Buffalo Exchange, a decent enough selection of basic Forever 21 and Banana Republic hand-me-downs and a few surprisingly expensive new items (and this coming from a New Yorker with a keen sense for garment quality and pricing). I tried on one of these new items, a dress that was visibly low-quality and WAY overpriced. The zipper detached before I even had a chance to zip it up! I tried to politely explain this to the owner/saleswoman when she asked, who insisted I pay $12 to replace the zipper on her cheap dress. Instead of absorbing a tiny chunk of change for what she must have known was a poorly made garment, she embarrassed me, took the last bit of cash I had on me and ruined my afternoon. Thanks alot, Boomerang...good luck in this economy with your horrible customer service! read more

Picked up a nice Paper Denim & Cloth button down and a vintage official Camouflage Army Jacket...Reasonable prices and seems to have similar levels of products now at home in their new location; just a 5 minute walk from my downtown Putney apartment. I have been coming to this store for almost all of its 20 years. It is so unique and we so appreciate it in our community. From the original jewelry, t shirt and sock collection to the second hand dark green snake skin cowboy boots - this store is a gem. I look at my wardrobe and realize my favorite and most worn pieces come from here as well as my husband's vintage Hawaiian shirts, swim trunks and jeans. My friends from NY and CT come through and stock up on dresses, shoes, etc. My kids (now grown) can't wait to come back and see what Loretta has in stock. I had my worst experience at a resale shop. I brought in an item to trade for store credit bas I am not in the are often an don't want to consign and puck up what didn't sell. It was the first time I went in, and would likely be the last time. The girls who were working, did not know the brand, so they refused the item. They said I should come back with several items, and they would decide if they would take them in. The owner was not working that day and they would not contact her. Personally, when I try a new situation, I go with just 1 or 2 things to see how it goes. And, yes the item was in new condition, in season, and seemed to fit the hippi-dippy, tattooed, unshaved vibe of the store. read more

This is your run of the mill consignment shop. While I don't feel like it was a huge disappointment like some reviewers, I just felt like the selection/ pricies of the selection they did have, didn't really appeal to me on that particular day. (anyone familiar with consignment-vintage shopping knows it can be hit or miss) I did find a cute top, that I did end up buying so I cannot say that I left disappointed/empty handed. I would love to come back to this shop and give it a second shot because #1 the ladies who worked there were lovely and helpful #2 the shop is wicked cute and #3 Life's about second chances. I think they have some pretty cute clothes there. I wish they carried more contemporary vintage inspired clothes that were more 1950s inspired and less hippied out. The owner is a little weird and paranoid about stealing. I understand it can be an issue in a consignment store but sometimes the way she approaches the customer about handing her your purse or letting them know each time you go in the dressing room (even if you are the only person in the store) is awkward, rude and a little embarrassing. They could be more tactful and sensitive and perceptive. That said, I do think they have cute stuff and I like stopping in there. I know the owner is just trying to protect her shop but I prefer to shop there when she isn't there. read more

The owner is rude and condescending. Her used clothing is second rate at best (lots of Gap and H&M kind of stuff) and her new items are cheap-quality, over-priced, and tacky. She was rude to my girlfriend and me and instead of purchasing the one item found between us, we both walked out. I would never shop here again, never recommend anyone to go here, and hope that she closes and someone with some tact (and better selection) opens up in Boomerang's place. read more

Fantastic place to go! I am not sure what is wrong with the people who reviewed this place. The staff was helpful. The energy was hip and positive. The clothes were fantastic with a nice selection of stuff for folks in different sizes and of different ages. I am a shoe and bag nut so this is where I spent most of my time while visiting the store. I live in Santa Cruz and everyone wants to know where I got my fantastic boots! I grew up visiting Brattleboro quite regularly and always thought Boomerang was such a cute store by the window displays. When I go into the store, however, it's a bit difficult to find pieces I like. There are usually some cute dresses on the racks up front, but they're definitely over priced, like many items in the store which I rarely find worthy of their prices. The owner (I'm assuming she is an owner, as she is at the store every time I visit) is super picky about what she takes in terms of used clothing, yet you'll find some pretty basic, cheaply made, and not so cute items on the racks. She is also unfriendly and condescending, having made me feel quite uncomfortable on a number of occasions, especially when I've brought clothes into the store for her to look at. I think the issue is that she's looking for very retro, tacky pieces, a specific style. That's fine, but then only one type of customer is going to have a successful shopping experience. I figured that out pretty quickly, but since Brattleboro is limited in what it offers young women in terms of clothes shopping, I continued to go back. The reason I finally decided to write this review was because of my experience this week. I saw a pair of cool boots on the counter and expressed interest in them. Instead of the owner (same lady I mentioned before) encouraging a sale, like a salesperson would normally do, she quickly let me know SHE was interested in them as well. She then proceeded to try on the boots and tell me, "sorry, I think these are sold!" I didn't care THAT much about the boots, but as someone who has common sense and a Bachelor's degree in fashion merchandising, I'd say that was pretty unprofessional and straight up lame. It was a little awkward to be expressing a desire to try on and possibly buy a product, only to have that product snatched before my eyes by the OWNER, so that I, a paying customer, would have no chance of purchasing it. Boomerang doesn't deserve to be boycotted or anything, but I certainly don't need it in my own life. read more

What a cute little store-and what I consider a gem in the Brattleboro area! it has some great finds if youre willing to take the time to look through the racks; it has a hip, cool vibe about it. I absolutely love it!- From the colorful socks and tights when you first walk in, to the endless amount of dresses and pants that are more than reasonably priced, boomerang is my place to go whenever I need something that makes me feel like a million bucks. They have unique shirts, a wide variety of both men's and women's jackets, shoes shoes shoes, and the best thing is, they wont make you break the bank. They do have some vintage options too, which adds to its flare. Its one step up from your average consignment store...it feels like urban outfitters and forever 21 had a child store on a budget. I'm from Brooklyn, where we have loads of great thrift shops! My boyfriend and I visit Vermont many times, and when we found Boomerbang, I was really happy! I've shopped here many times and found some really cute pieces. The owner was always pleasant until yesterday. My boyfriend bought two shirts and I was in line to buy a ring and pants. She was tagging something on the table. I started to ask her about the mailing list and the most shrill and rude voice (non apologetic at all) she said "EXCUSE ME, I'm doing something important right now!! I can't even look up"!!! So the salesgirl felt weird and said sorry for and answered my ridiculously simple question. The owner looked up and said , oh I'm busy and tried crack a smile. I sarcastically replied "I Work in retail too" ... I actually do and I would never ever be that rude to a customer or I would be fired. My boss is a young business owner and her number one policy is kindness. It's good to see but that is how customer service should be anyway. I felt disgusted, and treated without any respect. We literally did but many things here throughout the past two years. Extremely shocked. She's a ticking time bomb. It's nasty. I will never be going back. Oh well, she just lost a longtime customer. Only plus, the salesgirl was nice and you can always find at least one cute thing to wear! BAD customer service!! read more

To be fair, some of the clothes here are cute. And the employees -- i.e., the girls who work behind the counter -- are lovely and helpful. Why then 1 star? Because the owner is one of the least kind people I've ever encountered. My only issue with this shop is the pricing -- I personally find the vintage clothing to be more reasonably priced than most of the contemporary consignment items, but I admittedly have a bit of bias as a former buyer at a Buffalo Exchange and am accustomed to their pricing system. I'm always drawn in by the new (unworn) clothing because it's so cute and colorful, but it's true that most of it is not the best quality... and the prices can be a bit high considering the quality. Boomerang is great for vintage finds and unique pieces that can't be discovered at your standard department store. The experience of shopping through their diverse style adds an element of excitement, because you are destined to find a distinguishing piece. I also find it rewarding to purchase a used item, as you're in essence recycling and prolonging the life of that article of clothing or accessory. Along with finding the good, you are destined to find the bad and the ugly - of which are usually outlandish pieces you would never be caught dead in. However, they make for an entertaining fashion show with friends and often come in handy when granted themed-party invites. In addition to the array of options, Boomerang is staffed with candor - all of the employees are receptive and helpful in pointing you to the items you're looking for. The employees also take the time to understand individuals' style and offer selections given tailored design. Boomerang also offers consignment, which is a great excuse for swapping in those items you've only worn a couple times for cash or potential new ensembles. With many stores offering mainstream styles and high-end apparel being exorbitantly priced, I recommend jumping on the thrift bandwagon and checking out Boomerang! read more

I've written negative reviews for Boomerang before, they are always filtered and removed. As another reviewer said, the clothes are average quality, think very washed Loft, Gap, etc. mixed with a lot of polyester tacky stuff. The owner is a downright horrible person as any local will tell you, (almost all the yelp reviews are tourists). I would recommend this store to anyone, check out the thrift store under the parking garage, or the hospice shop across on elliot st. They aren't exploiting people, the prices are very reasonable and the money goes to a good cause. Edit: I forgot to mention that I've had many friends who have worked at Boomerang and have all said absolutely negative things about their experience and the owner. This store has cute clothing - I'm a regular consignment and second-time-around shopper, and when I've visited VT I've enjoyed browsing and buying some items. I'm giving it a low rating because its owner is a just pretty unpleasant person; I've seen her be gruff or patronizing with customers on at least 3 occasions. This is a really cute shop. I actually consigned some of my own clothes here. Some things are really a treasure, but over all it's a bit pricey. The cheapest things in the store are in the $5 bin, and they are usually pretty worn or outdated. The store owner is very friendly. I didn't receive much for my clothes, and they weren't in bad shape, but she offers store credit or cash. (you get less money in cash). It's definitely worth a stop by though. read more

I had an extremely unpleasant experience at this store, all due to the rude owner. I was with a big group of my cousins, and we are from out of town. We were minding our own business, having a fun time checking out all of the clothes. When the owner noticed my young 10 year old cousin taking a picture, and trying on some sunglasses, when she overreacted and began yelling profanity at my young cousin. Who curses at a little girl???? It was so unprofessional and uncalled for, that we will never be attending this store again. The rest of the time in the store, we were monitored to make sure we weren't stealing anything, which made us equally uncomfortable. In conclusion, our time at this store was filled with angry glares, rude comments and just total disrespect. Our parents are considering contacting the local chamber of commerce, for this owner seems to be displaying a pattern of disrespect. read more
