Warning. This tailor apparently saw that I knew very little about suits and tried to take advantage of me. There were people who quickly pointed out that my suit was ill-tailored and my bank stepped in to fix the situation. The suit was immediately returned. Pay with a credit card if you must go there. Take video and pictures! Those pictures and the video ended up saving me a lot of money.
You really cannot imagine how poorly sewn and patched-together the trousers were. Our guess is that it started when the tailor mis-measured the suit to begin with and then tried to cover up his mistake by adding fabric, etc... The tailor's theory was that I would be too inexperienced to notice the poor workmanship. That was a good theory, but those people around me were not so inexperienced. They quickly pointed out that holes in the trousers and triangular wedges inserted in the crotch area are not normal or proper in new $1000+ suits. (Yes, it was more than $1000.)
One excuse the tailor used is that his machine had been skipping and needed repairs. However, it was pointed out that a professional tailor should immediately notice that his machine was skipping. A true professional tailor would check his stitching in any case! Another lovely excuse was "nobody looks there or will see it" with regards to the extremely misaligned triangular wedges inserted into the crotch area. Of course, when sitting down that doesn't hold water, but the fact the tailor even "argued the point" says a lot about the tailor.
There were multiple other problems with the suit. The trousers were the most grievous. At over $1000 it doesn't make sense. Given the tailors prior excellent reputation I am completely stunned at the results, especially of the tailoring. I really can't emphasize enough that the most perplexing part wasn't even the insertion of the wedges, but how poorly sewn and mis-aligned the wedges were. I could sew better than that! There must be something more to that story... Was it simply apathy? I have no idea.
So, you have been warned. read more
