We walked in about 30 minutes before closing and found some great deals. The store was clean, and Al, the salesperson, greeted us with a warm smile. It's a spacious store with plenty of clothing options to choose from. My husband and I were looking for sizes, and a young associate named Jeana (I hope I'm spelling that correctly) was extremely helpful. She answered our questions about fit and style, and was quick, attentive, and friendly throughout. We ended up spending quite a bit, and have no regrets. read more

I just made my last visit to Jos A Bank. Today is the end of October. I went into the store, was sort of greeted by a clerk who refused to make eye contact who asked what I was seeking. I mentioned I was looking for wool flannel and wool gabardine pants. He indicated that such things wouldn't be coming in till next month (November!) and all they had were some mostly summer weight gabardine. He asked my size, pointed to the location and then he walked away; I saw more of his back than anything else during the exchange. Note at that point, at 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon in a busy upscale plaza, I was the only customer. The offerings were slim; they have some new, misguided concept to fold dress pants in half and then to clip them to a pants hanger. It's looks/seems like what you'd find in Walmart. Add to that that the prices for at best okayish quality pants were greater than what you'd spend at Brooks Brothers for known quality. Of course, you need to drive downstate to find a Brooks Bros location... On the other hand, there were some cashmere sweaters (average quality) and they were very competitively priced. I went to look at suits and sports jackets and there was a severely limited selection. Even looking at accessories where many socks once hung there were only a few pair. The store gives the strong impression it's about to be closed. It's been clear something has been up with this company since it was acquired by Men's Wearhouse. I have a Harris tweed jacket I bought here 10 years ago; forget the possibility of seeing Harris tweed here ever again. I have several Camel Hair and Cashmere jackets I have bought from this company as well; such jackets are clearly also a thing of the past here. And, there used to be decent sales , which offered you an incentive to shop here. Today nearly everything was exceedingly mediocre and severely overpriced. One used to come to Jos Banks when you wanted to get something of higher quality than Macy's offered, but Brooks Bros was a bit out of your budget. While some product was marginal, you could mostly find things of quality. I'd always done well at Jos A Banks in California and in Seattle and, initially, when I moved here two years ago when this store had a very professional sales staff. Something has happened and it's unlikely that it's attributable to the pandemic. This has been evident visiting Jos Banks on line; but the Albany store experience was worse than bad, it was sad. I am guess some hedge fund has purchased the company and is sucking out the assets and then will dump it shortly. My recommendation is to spare yourself the trip here. Now that Lord and Taylor is gone as well, sadly Macy's is haute couture for mens wear in the NYS Capital District. Settle for that, travel downstate or to Boston, or shop on-line. read more

I have purchased at least 9 suits from Jos. A. Bank over the years, with 6 coming from this location. Let me be blunt: their pricing structure is insane. Their regular prices are extremely high, but they regularly run sales whereby they practically give the store away (buy one, get one free; sometimes buy one, get two free). Why they stay open during the non-sales days is a question I cannot answer, but don't be a fool and go on non-sales days. That being said, their suits are excellent quality. I always have them tailored and they come out very well. Only once did I have an issue with that. They can sometimes get very busy during sales events, and that means you will need to wait and be patient. They also do custom tailoring, and saved me from a near-miss catastrophe involving a mail-order slim cut suit. Highly recommended. read more

My future son-in-law bought two very expensive custom made suits from the Stuyvesant Plaza, NY location. The very first time he wore one of the suits at a wedding, the backside ripped & not at the seam! No consolation, the store would do nothing!! Awful quality and very poor customer service! Paid an absolute fortune for suit alterations and they were not completed when I went to pick them up today, after 3 months. Not only was this a huge inconvenience, but the man who I believe was the manager was an absolute psycho when we asked for a refund only on the alterations considering how much we paid and did not receive them. He was yelling and making a scene and when we asked him to chill out he only got worse. Repulsive behavior he should be fired, or maybe not work in customer service if you don't know how to. read more

I spent well over a thousand dollars here on 2 suits, a shirt and a tie clip in Albany. Tie clip broke within 24 hours. The suits arrived late, at which time the store had to close for several months. They did not notify me of the closure until the day they shut down. So they called me and told me to pick the suits up in Clifton Park. Much farther away. The suits fit terribly, the tailoring is aweful. Sleeves came to my elbow. Staff at Clifton Park barely said a word, handed me the suits, did no final fittings or alterations. Albany said that they would have Clifton Park give me a coupon or gift card for the inconvenience. Clifton Park didn't have one. Never buying here again. read more

Great quality clothing. You really get what you pay for. Even though it has the appearence of being super expensive, its affordable. If you must wear suits and ties, this is the place. They have great selection and quality, I especially love their dress shirts. They tailoring is done within a reasonable amount of time, and I've never been disappointed. Its really cool to that they keep all of your information computerized. They remember sizes and things you were interested in. They also have longer dress shirts for us bigger guys, 35/36 arm length. All together, I'm pleased when I shop there. A little note too, they always are having awesome sales. If you end up buying a dress shirt, when dry cleaned, have it extra starched, it looks super sexy! Lol read more

My husband needed a sport jacket, so we stopped in about an hour prior to closing time, 10 days before Christmas. The store was quite busy when we arrived, and each of the 3 salespeople was helping at least one customer. Some sportshirts caught our eye, so we started looking through them without assistance. After about 15 minutes, we became quite frustrated, because stock levels were low, so that it was very difficult to find the proper size in a style we liked. We were about to leave when a young saleswoman asked if we needed help. We gladly accepted her assistance. Within about half an hour, having taken advantage of the saleswoman's knowledge of available stock, eye for coordinating items, expertise in marking up items that required alteration, and friendly but not pushy attitude, we happily spent over $500. One should never underestimate the value of well-trained salespeople. If the pleasant young saleswoman had not intervened, we wouldn't have spent a penny at Joseph A Bank. Instead, we left the store feeling that although we spent a bit more than we had planned, we had used our money wisely. With the saleswoman's expert help, we bought everything my husband needed, as well as several items that were not absolutely necessary, but would coordinate well with other items in his wardrobe. We left Joseph A Bank happy that we had purchased stylish, well-constructed clothing, made of high-quality fabrics. read more

Went to the store as a referral from someone to purchase some clothes and a couple custom made dress shirts for our trip out of town. Hundreds of dollars later at the register we were assured that the custom shirts would be in before our trip the following month. We called numerous times before we left only to hear that the shirts were not in yet. My husband ended up having to buy more shirts to replace the shirts we were promised to have. I've spoken to customer service with no help from them. Here we are in July THREE weeks after our trip and the shirts that we ordered in May are still not in our possession. I called the store today to see why we hadn't heard anything only to be told "oh yeah, we have the shirts now, sorry no one called you". This was by far thee WORST experience we've ever had. I spent a very good amount of money in that store and it's been nothing but a nightmare. read more

A major problem with Jos. A. Bank is that the specials that are advertised via email do not mesh with reality. This store had absolutely no sport jackets available at the 99.99 price offered from the email ad. The salesman said, "I just sent back over 500 jackets back to the distributor". It's very typical of this store. Also, the salesperson was dressed in jeans, a rumpled shirt and looked like he just rolled out of bed. I guess that Sundays are not the best days for Bank's employees. Went to Macy's and found a good deal. read more

Worst service I have ever experienced. I have been buying and wearing suits for 40 years and I have never seen service this bad before. We were buying suits for the wedding party and the store got nothing right. They lost two suits, gave each of us a hard time when we went to pick up the suits and gave us wrinkled suits. Walked in on a Friday evening. Six sets of customers, seven including me, three salespeople all tied up. I wanted to buy some dress shirts, but clearly was not going to be helped before the store closed. I went into Jos. A. Bank with serious reservations after reading the reviews. But my husband needed a suit for a Bat Mitzvah so he convinced me to give it a try. We went in and were helped by the assistant manager, David Turner. David did a phenomenal job. Not only did he take the time to find my husband the best fit, he then ordered the suit in the color I wanted. When I mentioned my concern that it would not be in on time due to the reviews I read he assured me it would be in within a week and that he would call when it arrived. David was true to his word, the suit came in on time and he called us the moment it arrived. He then arranged for alterations to the pants and jacket. Again I expressed my concerns and he assured me the suit would be ready in 2 weeks. Two weeks later my husband and I went down and the suit was ready and perfectly altered. I will be returning to Jos. A. Banks and asking for David when I arrive. Great customer service. Thank you David and sorry for the hard time I gave you in regards to my doubts. You proved me 100% wrong!! read more
