1-Star Review -- Absolutely Disgusted with Macy's Customer Service I've been shopping at Macy's for over 20 years, but after what happened recently, I'll never step foot in one again. I came in carrying a Foot Locker bag with expensive shoes, and I needed to use the restroom. I politely asked an employee if I could leave my bag behind the cashier for just a few minutes, as I didn't want to take it into Macy's notoriously dirty bathrooms -- anyone who's used them knows what I mean. Instead of helping, the employee rudely told me to "just take it with you" and added that they're "not responsible if it gets stolen." The way she said it -- with attitude and sarcasm, laughing with another co-worker -- was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. I even explained my reasoning, trying to avoid putting my bag on the disgusting restroom floor, but she didn't care. Here's what's baffling: I've done this many times over the years, and no one had a problem with it before. So what changed? Why now? Was I treated this way because I "look a certain way"? Because I didn't walk in wearing designer clothes or driving a car? No one deserves to be treated like that. I was kind, respectful, and only needed 3 minutes. I didn't leave my belongings unattended in the open -- I left them exactly where I always do. And yet the staff acted like I was a burden or some kind of problem. To make things worse, when I called corporate, they apologized and even issued me a $50 gift card, admitting that this behavior doesn't reflect Macy's values. So why are employees like this still working there? Customers should never be treated with this level of disrespect and judgment. If you're shopping with bags or don't want to drag your belongings into a filthy restroom, don't expect basic decency from the staff at this location. They've forgotten what real customer service is. I bought a couple of jade bangle bracelets online through Macy's and charged them on my Macy's credit card, but I needed to return them because they were too small and not as pictured. The colors of the bangles were odd as well. There was no paperwork in the bag with the bangles when they came to me. Macy's jewelry department gave me such a hard time about returning these bangles because they were from a third party company. After about a half hour of craziness in jewelry, the clueless sales clerk finally suggested I go to the customer service department to do the return. Now Macy's has to send these bangles back to the company and that company will approve my refund. Macy's is turning into an overpriced Target with a few very unprofessional sales clerks that have no common sense. I really like this Macy's a lot, it is showing it's age a bit, but it's 3 floors and quite large for the Albany area. There is a very sizable perfume and cosmetic section towards the middle of the first floor. They also have a large jewelry selection, items range fro inexpensive to high end. There is a TON of clothing here for the whole family. I used to love coming here as a teen, the juniors section is still great. Tons and tons of clothing for ladies of all ages here, if you don't mind digging you can usually find deals. Do you need a dress for a formal event? They have an AWESOME selection on the second floor near the ladies shoes. If you are looking for items for the home, be sure to check out the third floor. This is a nice Macy's and I've enjoyed shopping here over the years. read more

I hate clothes shopping. I hate waiting in lines, I hate needed to find salespeople to ask questions, I hate being measured, and I hate trying on clothes. But, I needed a new suit recently and had no idea what my clothing size was anymore. So I came here on a Sunday afternoon. While waiting in line, I was able to see how tired the store is. The floors are dirty, the walls are nicked up, the changing rooms are definitely ready for a face-lift, etc. They were pretty busy. Or, more to the point, the two people they had working in their suit section were pretty busy. They were running the registers while trying to help people between customers. It was controlled chaos. After waiting in line, I got to the front of the checkout and asked the person there for help. He didn't measure me but instead asked me to try on two suit jackets that he thought were my size. Turns out I am between them, but he did a good job sizing me up. Then, I tried on pants. He marked the line for the pant cuff break but didn't ask for my preference (no break) so we did it again. Then, he discovered he had given me pants that didn't match the suit so I had to try on a new pair of pants and wait for him to mark the break. Then, my wife noticed that the pants had a defect and had been mistakenly put on the rack so I got another pair to try on and had the break marked again. As someone who hates trying on pants, this was frustrating, but it was better than ending up with non-matching or defective pants. The salesman was very friendly considering how busy he was. He quoted me a price that turned out to be lower than what he charged, and claimed he was talking to someone else (he wasn't). Still, I needed a suit and eventually ended up with one that fit me well. The jacket wasn't in stock so it had to be mailed to me, and the pants are being worked on. So, I left without a suit but I suppose I will have one someday. As we were leaving, a third sales person came on the floor and there were practically no customers. Such how it goes, I guess. Nicely meets your needs I can't say I shop here often, but I've made a few significant purchases and was quite pleased as I've found Macy's in general, and this store in particular, quite dependable. When I first moved here, knowing Macy's had consistent products I came here; I purchased a mattress and box spring. Macy's always has a large variety of quality products, and is exceedingly dependable in delivery with repeated notification updates. On site in Colonie the staff were courteous, interested, and very helpful. I bought an area rug: they had a wide variety of Orientals of genuine quality with competitive prices. The Indian rug I purchased is handsome and of high quality and the salesman was amazing patient and wanted to be sure I explored many options and that was totally satisfied. (I worried that I was taking up too much of his time.) When I needed to purchase a gift that my wife and I wanted to make of gold knot earrings the jewelry department had a wide variety of 14k gold earrings --and of this specific type-- and of good quality. The sales people were responsive, helpful, friendly, and incredibly efficient without seeming to hurry me. Macy's is solid; the staff in Colonie Center are good. Macy's!!! You never know where to start. It's such a hit or miss at Macy's in all factors. Sometimes you can find a great deal and other times they are asking 100 dollars for something used and worn. Also the customer service.... hit or miss. You have some people who are ready and willing to help you. Then you also have the others who hate their job and aren't willing to help. My last visit to Macy's, I bought a pair of dress shoes. The employee who was working the department was phenomenal. Wanted to get me the perfect shoe for the best price. The next department I was looking for a dress shirt, it was family and friend coupon weekend. So I found a dress shirt. At the check out the woman gave me such a hard time using the discount because the dress shirts were on sale. " not a clearance item" just a everyday sale. I use these coupons all the time. However her attitude and ignorance about it just rubbed me the wrong way. I left my items and Macy's lost the sale. Simple as that, customer service is the winning and losing factor. I went to Macy's with my friend to look for shoes. I was reading one of the signs about the sale and asked the only salesperson on the floor about it. He held up the sign and said "what does this say? Can you read the sale details?" He was so rude to me. "It won't be every item, just select ones because that's what the sign says." My friend bought her shoes in another department because this guy was so rude. His name was Thomas and he wore an Ed Hardy-looking shirt with tigers on it. I called the executive office to complain and my name/number was taken down, but nobody reached out. I also put in a complaint on the website. Hurry! Last 2-day sale this week plus special preview day! This is, IMO, the best Macy's in the Mid-to-Upper Hudson Valley in terms of inventory, especially clothes. Once in a while I've gotten some good deals on men's clothing, especially their own Club Room brand. But Macy's in general disappoints me in many ways. I got tired of, in the past, their tiered credit card/rewards system. I've been "burned" by sales in which a clerk has said something like "Oh, this isn't on sale because the price ends in an 8 instead of a 9 so it's an everyday value instead of a sale item, so that discount doesn't apply." I'm not interested in "cologne ladies" at the cosmetics counter trying desperately to hand you cologne scent cards, only to tell you, "I'm sorry I don't work here" when you ask a question - though the actual employees here really do work hard to give you customer satisfaction. But what boils down to is that for the type of items I usually buy, I can very often get competitive/better prices elsewhere. My most recent best deal on a suit was at Boscov's, specifically because they carried fitted suits. For many of the other clothes and housewares items I might typically buy, I tend to get competitive/better deals at places like Kohl's or Bed, Bath & Beyond, especially with their "No exceptions" coupons. This Macy's location has a good range of brands for nearly every budget, which is great. However, Macy's has been, well, less than generous about coupons, which isn't great. You can tell that the store is dealing with fewer staff. Customers are struggling to find open registers, and the staff is clearly struggling with both maintaining the floor and caring for the customers. While most of the staff is very nice and helpful, one particular staff member, Karina, needs an attitude adjustment. When I brought a Calvin Klein dress over to the register and asked whether I could get the next size in the department or online, she told me that (Calvin Klein) doesn't have dresses in size 18 (a lie) and that maybe I would be more comfortable in the "Women's" sizes. I have no illusions about needing to lose a few pounds, but there is a far nicer way of putting it. Abraham is a freakin' rock star. I don't know what else to say. He took what could have been an incredibly horrible experience and made it only reasonably awful. All I wanted was my mixer. My beautiful, wonderful, perfect Kitchen-Aid mixer. When I initially established my Macy*s wedding registry, I told the representative (not Abraham) to like the Star Rewards to my husband's card, not mine (which was closed for non-use). She said she did. I called the next day to verify that (a) they linked his card, not mine and (b) they had the right address. Fast-forward to the six weeks after the wedding: The star rewards card never arrived. I had to call to request a new one, because they mailed it to the wrong address. Then, when I finally got my card, I was so excited, I drove straight to Colonie Center. I went upstairs, found the display - and couldn't find my mixer. No worries. Abraham found it for me. It was 20% off. He also let me know that Kitchen-Aid was doing a $50 rebate with the mixers and gave me the forms. Then, he tried to run my gift card. The gift card I wanted 7 weeks for, that was sent to the wrong address. That gift card that didn't actually work when I tried to use it. Yes, that gift card. Anyway, Abraham waited with me. For 45 minutes. Yes, really. He was patient. He stood there, chatting and entertaining me while the gift card people kept putting me on hold. And when their solution to my problem was to keep transferring me back into the queue in hopes that I would get sick of waiting and hang up, he called his manager, Peter. Peter is also awesome. He called the gift card people for me, found out what was wrong and figured out how to process the transaction for me. All while I was still on hold. And now, finally, I have a mixer. And it was good. Oh, and on my way out, the woman at the perfume counter ran over to open the doors for me and help me out. That was a nice touch. I appreciated it. Yes, some stuff at Macy*s is expensive. But they have really good sales, and excellent salespeople and that is why I go back. Excuse me, I have to go make ice cream. read more

This review is addressing the Makeup counter at Macys. Mainly the Clinique counter. I do not think Macy's got the memo yet that department stores are closing thanks to online sales. ESPECIALLY when it comes to cosmetics. You are losing sales to the likes of Ulta and Sephora. Also online based makeup companies such as MELT cosmetics,Colourpop,etc. I went with some friends to Macys cosmetics area to purchase a lip mask from Clinique that hydrates your lips. Mind you, I worked as a counter manager for a major dept store in my past. So I am not oblivious nor am I patient with any antics from these "counter girls". As we made our way to the Clinique counter (which was a long counter). I was eyed down by an Indian looking woman with a very deep complexion and a bob haircut with dark wine lipstick. I made my way over and I noticed that she eyed her coworker to look over with a smile. Signifying that she was a catty insecure envious woman. That I want no part in. I glared her down and her blonde coworker down ... she was shook. Her friend had the everlasting nerve to greet me, I was having none of it and I told the person I was with that I will get this online.I will not give a penny in commission to any catty females! Thing is, I am shocked that a dark skinned Indian woman of a particular older age is still playing childish games. Last year I was going to a wedding in Madison, WI, and needed a garment bag to carry my suit in. I went to Macy's, and was helped by a very nice gentleman in the luggage dept. I don't remember his name, but he explained all my options, and I picked the garment bag that suited my needs. I used the bag, and it worked fine. Last week I was flying and needed my suit, and used it again. Unfortunately, this time the bag ripped on the seam. Knowing it was past my 6 mo., I was questioning if I would be allowed to return it. We brought it back, and the same gentleman was working. He said it was no problem at all to return it, and we were able to get a different product. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. Besides this experience, I have always had good experiences at this Macy's. There are always sales, and I tend to find the quality of the merchandise better than at Crossgates. read more

Everytime they went into the back to look for a shoe it was as if they went into the Marianas Trench. I completely agree with Lai-Yee: this is the "good Macy's" in comparison to the one in Crossgates. My review is for the Macy's women's shoe department and in particular, Ed, the most amazing shoe salesman ever. While living in Albany, I exclusively bought my shoes from Ed. He epitomizes what every salesperson should aspire to be: courteous, friendly, polite, helpful, and accommodating. When you work with Ed, he takes care of you. He makes sure that you're happy and won't let you buy anything that you're not completely satisfied with. Also, he also does whatever he can to get you the best price on the shoes, sometimes he even supplies the coupons for you! He's saved me hundreds of dollars and made me a loyal customer. He repaid my loyalty by learning my style and my shoe size. Since I used to go in frequently (when I lived in the area), he would put shoes aside in my size if he thought I would like them so I could be sure to have them if I wanted them. AWESOME! Although I left Albany 3 years ago, whenever I'm back in the area, I cruise through to see what Ed has in stock and he still remembers me (and my shoe size!) and treats me like gold. I went to Macy's at Colonie Mall to return some boots I have purchase via the store website. The return was so simple and easy! I just gave the agent my mail order ticket, he checked the boots, credited my card and I was out in less than 10mins...but as I left the store some MK boot caught my eye and it was all over! I would also like to say, the only reason I returned the 9West boots was they were too small. I wear a 7.5 and other customers had rated the boot as running big so I bought a size down...Otherwise, I have been a loyal Macy's customer since high school. read more

When Macy's has a sale - you can get some things for quite the steal. My main point here is - if you are going to go to a Macy's in this area, there is no comparison between Colonie Center and Crossgates....you must go to the Colonie Center location. I grew up going to Macy's in NYC. It was the place to go for special occasion clothing , it was top notch quality. I have been shopping in the Colonie Center locations for 2 decades and yesterday I went after not being there for 2 years and I was shocked. It looked like a warehouse dump. There was racks and racks of clearance clothing , the designer areas were a mess, clothing strung all over the place, disorganized, low inventory, and impossible to find anyone to check you out. I understand there is a problem with getting people to want to go back to work, thanks President Biden, but Macy's needs to open their wallet and offer incentives for people to work. The quality, and luxury of shopping at Macy's doesn't exist in the Colonie Center location. TJ Maxx and Marshall's present themselves in a better light, for much less. The buyers for this store are not doing a great job, the styles are limited. A huge disappointment for me. read more

This location is definitely more organized and neat than the other one in the area, despite being bigger. I like that there are always multiple registers that are open. It makes paying a lot quicker. They have more selections of dresses too, which I really like. The fitting rooms are much more roomy, as well, and are equipped with better mirrors. read more

I bought a Macy's brand "Tools of The Trade" Fry Pan over 20 years ago. At the time, Macy's "proudly" advertised that their cookware was guaranteed for life. My pan handle broke off at the weld and I called the store. The first person I spoke to in cookware didn't know that it was a Macy's brand. He even checked with someone else in the department and got the same answer. I was switched to someone in an office somewhere else in the store who advised me to call the 1-800 service. At that number I was told that all warranty claims needed to be sent via an e-mail form, which I did. No one has contacted me for a week. So today I tried to f/u on my e-mail claim and got someone who said that Macy's only guarantees any product for 180 days at most. I told him that wasn't the policy when I bought the pan - but he said he couldn't do anything about it. He would only give me his first name and refused to give me an employee ID. I tried the corporate website (that Macy's itself manages) and it's filled with complaints about how bad Macy's is. WOW! I couldn't believe it - this company gives so little regard to customer service that nobody even cares that the company web site gives itself less that one star. I tried calling corporate (somewhere in Ohio, 513 area code) and was constantly disconnected. It's really not about the Fry Pan which I used for 20 years - It's more about sharing my customer frustration and sharing with review reader's how widespread the complaints were. Many were about Credit issues - so be forewarned: I wouldn't advise getting a Macy's store Credit Card; if you have a billing dispute it's unlikely to get resolved. And forget about buying extended warranties on any of their major items - from what I could see, that was an equally frustrating area to deal with. I'd strictly limit my shopping at Macy's to getting something on sale if you are willing to forget about warranty. And always use your own major charge card in case of dispute. read more

While trying to do an even exchange of three shirts with a receipt I was told it would be an additional charge of $8.35. It was only a couple of days ago. The signs on the table had not changed. The salesman said that maybe my wife used a coupon or that there was another sale that day. This is where it gets interesting. After a long delay, I asked for a manager. He said "If you would just be patient I was going to give you a price adjustment." I said, "You just told me it was additional $8.35 and that the register changes every day. I'm, primarily, an online shopper but when I'm in the Albany area, I always stop into the Macy*s at Colonie Center. It is the only Macy*s I can find a good selection of Petite business wear. And they usually have a good selection of costume jewelry on the ground floor. If you go during the week, there is an older woman who's been manning the counter for years. She is the epitome of customer service and always makes my shopping experience wonderful! read more

This Macy's location is much better than the Crossgates location, everything looks newer, and the departments are generally organized in a more cohesive manner. This location, and Macy's in general is great for bargain hunters looking for a good deal. I typically only shop the clearance racks and never shop without a coupon, preferably the $20 off of $50 variety. Downgrading one star because some employees seem clueless and aren't friendly. I bought a Samsung sport watch from the Macy's at Colonie Center, it was not in stock so they ordered one and sent it to me in the mail. When I received the watch it was obviously used, the band was gray (it is suppose to be black), all the accessories were thrown in the box and there was no plastic on the bezel. When I went to the store to return it they told me I would have to return it to the store that it came from (it came from a store in Virginia). I let them know that I purchased it from them and that they were responsible for refunding my money. After going back and forth for awhile the one of the many department managers agreed to take it back and order me another one. The second watch arrived, again used, it had dog hair in the box and smelled like bad cologne. This one is going back, done buying anything from this company. They lowered their standards and don't care what the customer receives. If you are looking to buy any type of smart watch avoid this place and go to Best Buy. Update- Went back to the store to return the second used watch that Macy's sold me. The department manager, Daniel told me he would not take it back because it was used, I reminded him that it was shipped that way. He went on to say that gets to make the final decision if he takes something back. I finally convinced him to swap it out for another one. He tried being slick and gave me a returned one (has the return sticker on it ), this is after another employee showed me a new one in a sealed box, it was better than the one I had so I took it plus Daniel told me it was the only one they had.
