So earlier this year I got introduced to this place thru a Yelp Elite experience and needless to…read moresay that visit really blew me away. Since that visit I have returned three different times, always bringing someone different to show off this excellent restaurant find located near 73rd and Stockton Blvd Engawa Fusion is such a special place-this restaurant is over 30 minutes from my house in Natomas in traffic ,yet that never stops me from trekking my way across Sacramento-I love this place that much. On this particular visit we started with 2 different sushi tacos-We had the tuna version and the salmon version-each priced at $11.00. Now I could write a novel explaining the virtues of these culinary creations but I will keep it short-the tuna and the salmon tacos are such the perfect bite-well balanced-well seasoned-surprisingly heavy in the hand while being light to the taste-it's truly been my favorite new food item discovery of 2026. Next we went with the Stir-Fry Udon and this cost us $16.00. I've described this dish in the past as a dish I could eat every day of my life and would be a very happy person. The flavor and seasonings are flawless, the noodles are cooked perfectly, great chew-a very slurpable noodle for sure. I can easily see why this dish is such a popular item on their menu. This restaurant was given a spot on Yelps Top 100 Places to eat in 2025-nothing in this visit did a thing to show that honor wasn't well deserved. In closing-I don't know if I could recommend this spot any higher and I plan many future visits whenever I want to show people how amazing the culinary experience in Sacramento has truly become. 10/10 experience. PS-Parking could be a bit of a challenge as they share a lot with an auto shop but all of my visits I was able to secure a spot-I am sure you will as wel

We also got the tamagoyaki unagi don with a huge soft unagi piece. The grapefruit green tea was really refreshing for these warmer days. Came here previously for a Yelp event and came back to try other things on the menu and so glad I did. Definitely worth coming to since portions are pretty big with very fast and attentive service.

*** Vegetarian Review ***…read more Would I come back? Yes, friendly service. They can accommodate their broths for vegetarians. If you can handle it, always ask for a medium spice level. Tips for first-timers: 1) Plenty of free parking 2) They accept reservations The Food: Vegetable Tempura ($18.95, Grade A): I like how they cut the vegetables--not too chunky. There is nothing worse than a chunky carrot that isn't cooked to its core. The tempura batter doesn't pull off when you bite into it, and it isn't oily at all. Yasai Ramen ($17.95, Grade A): Asked for a water broth to make this safe and vegetarian-friendly. You would think it would be tasteless, but it was surprisingly packed with flavor. The medium spice level definitely helped, but even for people sensitive to heat, this would be a tasty dish. It says water-based, but it still has a deep, eye-appealing dark color. The noodles have a great bite. Not overly mushy. And they stay that way for the entire meal. Broccoli, zucchini, bean sprouts, wood ear mushrooms, and cabbage. The cubed tofu is fresh and wasn't spoiled which often happens with tofu in restaurants that a lot of people don't order daily. Jungle Roll ($14.95, Grade A): Avocado and cucumber, topped with a seaweed salad. Most Japanese restaurants fail to understand that vegetarians also want a fun roll! We asked if they could include a vegetable tempura inside the roll so there would be a good textural component, and added a drizzle of teriyaki and spicy mayo. Good news--they were able to do it, though having to check with the sushi bar is always an adventure ($1 extra for each request). Sidenote: Why do all Japanese restaurants need to ask the sushi bar? One-hundred percent of the time, we eagerly have to wait for the sushi police to give a rolling. The rolls are made fresh and many meat-based rolls include a tempura element rolled inside. I could understand if we're asking to deep fry the roll, but just adding a tempura and a drizzled sauce? Ok, hopping off my soapbox. Bottom Line We've been coming to this place on and off for over ten years. It's been at least 2 years since our last visit, and there are some noticeable changes. Portions are smaller; the ramen bowls used to be the size of a food challenge. The restaurant itself is looking older and not quite as cared for, but the flavors remain excellent and the friendly, attentive service is completely unchanged.

My friend watched the waitress stack the 5 trays and left to process payment. Waitress returned and told them she was missing one payment. The party insisted that they all paid. The manager came to the table and told them they had to pay before they leave. Again, the party insisted they all paid. One of the ladies asked,"Are you saying that we're lying? There's security cameras in this room. Go review the footage and you can see the proof that we all paid and the waitress took the trays." Apparently the security cameras weren't functioning as he wouldn't look at the footage. The manager wanted to charge the missing payment to the person who used a charge card for her payment and the group told him that was not acceptable. The dispute went on for 30 minutes and customers at a near by table kept turning around and looking at us. The manager stepped away again and returned shortly with the missing payment saying that he found it under the cash register! There was no true apology, no effort to compensate the group for the embarrassing behavior and accusations. Clearly it was the waitress' mistake and she didn't apologize to the group. This is unacceptable behavior from the manager. Knowing this happened yesterday, I will no longer dine at Akebono. Very poor customer service.

I've enjoyed dine in and take out options from them, and while dining in will give you the freshest flavor and best presentation, they do such a good job packaging the food for takeout so nothing spills and everything tastes good with takeout too. The family that runs the restaurant is very friendly and I'm always greeted when I arrive. There's a good amount of seating available and they can accommodate small and larger groups. It's a great spot for a family dinner or meeting up with friends and I would recommend sharing family style so you can enjoy more dishes. Everything is delicious here, I would recommend checking out their specials to see if there's anything that catches your eye. I typically order the boat noodles, Pipo Tom Yum Seafood ramen, or curries. I ordered the pad thai on my last visit to try something new and it was also delicious. There's plenty of parking available outside, so it's a great spot to stop if you're looking for a quick bite or a nice sit down meal.

The sushi was surprisingly good and refreshing. The rice and ingredients felt fresh. Generally, pretty good Japanese for the area. The whole meal felt pretty expensive-- it's 12 dollars for takoyaki, which feels a bit pricey for what you get.

But none of those reasons are the real reason I truly love Oto's,let me tell you what I really love.....Late last year I decided I was going to learn how to make my favorite food in the world and that is sushi.I went ham,I got the knives I got the kits,I got the rice maker,I got all the seasonings but what I didn't have was a spot to pick up the highest level of fish that was needed to really make homemade sushi pop and that is where Oto's came in to save the day. Their daily "sushi-grade" tuna and salmon that they sell in the back of the store is so next level-even a novice like myself cannot mess up a homemade sushi meal. They have so much to offer at Oto's,all the different levels of salmon and tuna, depending on your budget but all of it is amazing. I will forever be indebted to Oto's for helping me raise my sushi game at home and making my wife think that I'm just the best sushi maker-when it was always just the high quality fish offered at Oto's that did the work-Thank You Oto's for that. In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Land Park area and want to see what all the hype is about at this incredible spot or maybe you just want to try your hand at some home sushi making,be sure to stop by Oto's Marketplace-it truly is a gem amongst gems. PS....Parking sucks here-no way around that one unless u get lucky or have a handicap placard-don't like the parking.
