Cadiz by the Sea in Madrid. Nice seafood and wine from that region. Outdoor patio was breezy and quaint.

The meats and fishes are incredible and always cooked to perfection. The salads are truly a worker art the flavors, bursting and freshness exudes from every single dish. A member of our party had the chicken tikka and while he did say that it was excellent it is a bit odd that they have chicken tikka on a European inspired menu. The service is quite typical for this type of restaurant: quick and easy but not outstanding. The ambience makes you feel like you're in the middle of a bright city like New York or Tokyo, the bustling waiters and heavy foot traffic throughout the restaurant brings up the energy and the constant chatter and noise from other diners really makes you feel immersed in the whole experience. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody and it is definitely a destination landmark on a trip to Madrid.

They bring olives, bread, and a small soup when you sit down which sounds nice until you realize it's not free. The steak was excellent, and the truffle and egg linguini stood out. The avocado lasagna was also surprisingly good. Service was good, our waiter was refreshingly honest and even steered us away from less popular dishes. It gets busy, so make a reservation.

Staff very friendly and made great recommendations. The owner came over several times to check on us and allowed us to try a traditional soup dish on the house. We loved the croquettes, the tuna tartar and the squid/veg dish! Staff was pleasant and patient since our Spanish is limited. Highly recommend for authentic eats!

This was just a few minutes of walking distance from our Sonder suite. After shopping for 6 hours, we were famished. We walked in around 7:30pm. They were kind enough to turn on the lights up for us in the dining room and seat us (dinner usually starts at 8-10pm in Spain). Let me just say that service was a class act from start to finish. Here is what we ordered: My son: I am going to have the Cod Tripe. What are you ordering, mom? Me: the Oxtail Traditional My son: Oooh, I will have some of yours too. Me: of course you are. My son: you can have one of my tripe. Please know that most places will ask if you want bread. They will charge you for it. My son used the bread to soak up the Cod Tripe Soup. I loved the chickpeas and I am happy my son got to have tripe before leaving Spain. It was on his bucket list of things to eat here. Our waiter came by with complimentary gazpacho and omg, what a delightful treat. It was perfect on a hot summer day. It had bits of potatoes and pears. I wanted a whole bowl. I think this place is a hidden gem!! Surprised that there are not more reviews. The food was absolutely delicious. It had that homemade touch! Don't forget to order dessert. We got the Pineapple Presented in 3 Textures. It had coconut milk and sago on one side and cinnamon crumbles on the other. The pineapple had sprinkles of salt. The flavor profiles tickled my tongue. Perfect on this 88 degree day. Truly worth a visit!

I loved how eclectic the menu was, seemed like there was something for any craving. We enjoyed the tomato tartare, salmon, duck tacos and the chicken tikka masala. Hello my friends, I…read moreknow it has been quite some time, but I'm coming at you with a Dan Hanis certified all-time great restaurant right here. Absolutely everything on this menu is delightful. I don't think you can go wrong anywhere. As I began my journey abroad, I roamed the streets of Madrid, and I happened to run into 4 lovely ladies. Catalina, Teresa, Alejandra, and the craziest of them all, my girlfriend Elizabeth! Elizabeth and I hadn't talked for a couple weeks since I left the family farming business. She was infuriated when she received the news that I was walking away from my destiny. She just didn't know if she could love someone who wasn't a farmer anymore. As I took a break from my cellular device, we hadn't talked since I left. Running into her in Spain was quite the surprise. She told me that I was just truly the greatest man in the world and that she would love me farmer or not. On her quest to find me, she became friends with these lovely ladies. To celebrate life we decided to have a lavish meal at Bar Tomate! Enough with the backstory, this restaurant is one of my favorites I've been to in the continent that is Europe. Sometimes it can get messy having a diverse menu, but Bar Tomate handles it with such class. To begin the night, I ordered a delicious Whiskey Sour (it reminded me of the beautiful fields of grain back in my homeland of the USA!). For my appetizer I ordered the ceviche which was absolutely mouthwatering. Every time I think of it, I immediately start to drool, so I try to limit myself from thinking of this incredible dish. The fish, onion, and avocado are just so well balanced with the acidic taste of the juice (I love juice). This dish makes it into the Dan Hanis Dish Hall of Fame. I cannot recommend this enough. For my entree, I ordered the chicken tikka masala. By no means was it the best I've ever had, but it was a delicious eat nonetheless. For dessert, after we'd been at the restaurant eating and drinking for a total of four hours, we ordered the brownie sundae. Bar Tomate had such a wonderful atmosphere, and the employees were in no rush to get us out of the door. To this day, Bar Tomate, gave me one of my favorite dining experiences, and I'll forever be grateful to them for it. It was wonderful to eat amazing food and make new friends. I can't wait to tell you about the rest of my journey across Europe. God Bless America and God Bless Food! Your glorious food king, Dan Hanis

We were…read moredeciding between a few of the two starred places in Madrid, and since SF tends to be more casual for Michelin places, I wanted something a bit more traditional in terms of formality, so we went with Paco Roncero, which is located in the historic Casino de Madrid (historic social club, not an actual casino. The dining room is definitely fancy by feel, and while it is very spacious with its high ceilings and spread out tables, there aren't actually that many tables. We started with the champagne cart, and ultimately, I liked the champagne so much that I just ended up getting more by the glass. Shockingly, it was only €18 a glass! We also shared a wine pairing, which focused on local wines but also included sherry. It's a good way to try grapes we haven't otherwise encountered. We chose the Madrid menu, which is 23 courses, split into sections of bites, mains, and then desserts. To start: 1. Aerial truffle cake 2. Olive oil tasting: presented on a tree - Adria style, a green, a black, a yellow 3. White chocolate donut with foie and cardamom sugar 4. Nori seed taco with salmon and miso 5. Shrimp tart 6. Cod brandade with lemon meringue 7. Scallop tartlet with cured scallop 8. Garlic prawns al ajillo 9. Madrid style red mullet on a mousseline and a thin potato cracker 10. Beef tripe fritter 11. Ox tartare with smoked caviar 12. EVOO butter and sourdough: the butter as in solid form but just tasted of olive oil, which was great Mains: 1. Vegetable patch: seasonable vegetables carefully planted into a dish of the herb sauce and "dirt." 2. Bluefin tuna belly, anchovy, caviar, tomato tartare 3. Almond flower with asparagus , apricots, sardine 4. Salpicon of blue leg prawns: corral, salad with seafood consommé 5. Turbot with codium sea lettuce and garlic razor clams 6. Oxtail Wellington with daikon, apple, red currant, pumpkin seed salad - cut and plated from a cart table side Desserts: 1. Citrus: lemon, yuzu, calamansi - refreshing 2. Apple: inspired by a candied apple with a wafer, roasted apple foam, lime zest, cider 3. Beetroot and black garlic ice cream, vanilla with maraschino cherry balsamic 4. Violet: with strawberry and apricot, as well as the traditional Madrid candy (Violeta) 5. Madrid flavors: chocolate bonbons in a box, each themed for a different area At the end, Chef Paco Roncero came out to greet each table, which was very cool. I feel like it's been a long time since that happened. I love tons of small bites, so this was the percent menu for me. Be prepared for a longer meal, but it was paved appropriately for the number of courses. Paco Roncero is definitely a worthy destination.
