Dined here on our last night in Madrid. Loved the atmosphere, was trendy without being intimidating or snooty. Had menus in english, if you needed that, as well as English speaking servers. I loved how eclectic the menu was, seemed like there was something for any craving. We enjoyed the tomato tartare, salmon, duck tacos and the chicken tikka masala. Hello my friends, I know it has been quite some time, but I'm coming at you with a Dan Hanis certified all-time great restaurant right here. Absolutely everything on this menu is delightful. I don't think you can go wrong anywhere. As I began my journey abroad, I roamed the streets of Madrid, and I happened to run into 4 lovely ladies. Catalina, Teresa, Alejandra, and the craziest of them all, my girlfriend Elizabeth! Elizabeth and I hadn't talked for a couple weeks since I left the family farming business. She was infuriated when she received the news that I was walking away from my destiny. She just didn't know if she could love someone who wasn't a farmer anymore. As I took a break from my cellular device, we hadn't talked since I left. Running into her in Spain was quite the surprise. She told me that I was just truly the greatest man in the world and that she would love me farmer or not. On her quest to find me, she became friends with these lovely ladies. To celebrate life we decided to have a lavish meal at Bar Tomate! Enough with the backstory, this restaurant is one of my favorites I've been to in the continent that is Europe. Sometimes it can get messy having a diverse menu, but Bar Tomate handles it with such class. To begin the night, I ordered a delicious Whiskey Sour (it reminded me of the beautiful fields of grain back in my homeland of the USA!). For my appetizer I ordered the ceviche which was absolutely mouthwatering. Every time I think of it, I immediately start to drool, so I try to limit myself from thinking of this incredible dish. The fish, onion, and avocado are just so well balanced with the acidic taste of the juice (I love juice).This dish makes it into the Dan Hanis Dish Hall of Fame. I cannot recommend this enough. For my entree, I ordered the chicken tikka masala. By no means was it the best I've ever had, but it was a delicious eat nonetheless. For dessert, after we'd been at the restaurant eating and drinking for a total of four hours, we ordered the brownie sundae. Bar Tomate had such a wonderful atmosphere, and the employees were in no rush to get us out of the door. To this day, Bar Tomate, gave me one of my favorite dining experiences, and I'll forever be grateful to them for it. It was wonderful to eat amazing food and make new friends. Nice place, seems very popular with young women. Basically a pizza place... took me a while to figure it out the menu. Duck tacos are ok, but need spicy sauce. Pizzas are not so good. One with burrata and the other one with Spanish ham. Service not so great either. read more

Bar Tomate clearly has a strong food focus, and that'll be obvious to you the moment any of their dishes hit your tongue. Even their side of grilled vegetables was phenomenal! We had the tuna sashimi, which was delightful and topped in a sort of spicy aioli. We also ordered the burrata, sun-dried tomato and basil pizza, which was very unique and flavorful, however, I think I would've liked it more with mozzarella subbed for the cold burrata. The service was really friendly and professional at Bar Tomate, and the decor of the restaurant and bar were modern and inviting. This place is popular, which is why it's not cheap and also why you'll want a reservation if you're planning to eat anytime after 8:30pm. Very good restaurant I took the solomillo which is a steak and the meat was very good but i must warn you that the portion is very small, and they re some potatoes with it but tiny portions again. If your are not very hungry but you want good food this is the meal. Other then this their pizza is good and they have good appetizers like tiny tacos that are very good. I stumbled upon here on my first night in Madrid. I was worried about not speaking Spanish, and was thrilled to discover that English is not a problem here. Was also worried about eating by myself but here I felt quite comfortable. Food was very, very good. Especially tasty is an appetizer where slices of smoked fish were served on top of slices of heirloom tomato. That is one bold, unpretentious dish. Water was charged as an extra but don't be alarmed --- in Europe, water always come in a bottle, and you always get charged. read more

I came here to meet friends. The food was very good. The staff took a little while to warm up but were friendly. This place has a warm comfortable feel and we spent a long time here. They have free Wi-Fi (you need to sign up) which is useful if you don't want to use data. The staff speak good English and let me try to speak in Spanish. try some of the starters if you have room. The truffle rigatoni is one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. Pear and squash ravioli is equally as yummy! We ate at Bar Tomate last year when we were in Madrid, and absolutely loved it. The food is great, ambiance fun and staff attentive. So this year, when I realized my family and I would be celebrating Christmas Eve in Madrid, I made a reservation for 5 people at 9 pm. We received a an on-line confirmation as well. You can imagine our disappointment when we got to the restaurant and saw that it was closed... on Xmas Eve, with no other opportunities available!!! Everything was either closed or full and the streets were empty. We were pretty much left wandering the streets of Madrid looking for someplace to go to. My daughter called the restaurant on the 26th to explain the situation and ask how we could have gotten a confirmation for dinner on the 24th and when we got there they were closed. It was obviously a terrible oversight and the manager could not have been more apologetic. We were invited to come back and dine, complimentary on them, any night before we left Madrid. We had a fabulous dinner the night before we left. The management personally came to our table to apologize for the snafu on Xmas Eve, they were sincerely upset about the mishap, and in my opinion handled a disappointing situation with great customer service. Once again, I say that the food is terrific, ambiance upscale lively and staff very attentive. I will definitely go back on my next trip to Madrid. A great tapas joint located in the fashionable Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid, like almost every other place in Madrid, this place doesn't come alive until after 10PM. The food is great, don't miss out on the croquettes - mushrooms were my favorite, the patatas were AMAZING. Another favorite, the tortilla - wow creamy and delicious. Maybe it was an off night, but the service was awful. The food was just okay, but the service was extraordinarily disappointing. We were initially given only one menu. We've asked for a second and the second menu was different from the first.Service was very slow and attentive throughout the meal.this was only our second meal in Madrid, but I assume there are much better places.The restaurant was highly recommended from two sources and it seems to be resting on his laurels and not making the effort.
