Not sure how this is kid friendly of a place? Like I went with my toddler and the music was so loud and there were barely and ramps that I could easily locate for the stroller? I am sure I sound like the ugly American tourist but when I think kid friendly I think toddlers and strollers and ease of mobility. It was loud and crowded with a confusing ordering system. This is probably the spot for young singles or folks with older kids but I would not recommend for families with young toddlers read more

If your looking for a laid-back kid friendly place to eat, this is pretty much a one-stop shop. They have multiple eateries for food, a couple bars for drinks, and free entertainment. When I went on a saturday night, this place was poppin' with a live singer/band and a stunt show. The food is a little pricey here but you're paying for the entertainment. I highly recommend this place if you're living around the Madrid Colon Area. Make sure to visit their vermouth bar and try their tap selections. Outrageous. read more

A really cool spot!! Really gorgeous venue with many levels. Great place to go grab drinks. They have a live DJ but it can get a little loud during the day if you are trying to have a chat. Feels like Vegas with the DJ up top. Waiters come take your order for drinks and serve you but you have to go get food. They are scattered all around ranging from cheeses and meats to croquettes etc. A must to check out in the trendy little high end neighborhood in Salamanca. Interesting modern twist on the long established "food court" found at so many shopping centres. The difference here is that the food is more upmarket yet very reasonably priced. Between the 3 of us we sampled nachos with guacamole, a slice of pizza, spaghetti carbonara, Iberian pork cheeks, a mixed Peruvian platter (Anticuchos) of swordfish and steak skewers and a hamburger slider!  Two glasses of wine and a diet coke later and the bill was €60 excluding tip.  We ate around 8pm and there was a DJ knocking out the tunes, I'm sure the audience changes as the night wears on. The building looks like a 70's block of flats from the outside and is easily missed but a journey there is worthwhile. read more

Note: I never give bad reviews. EVER. But this is a concern for public health post. I got food poisoning from salmon at Pintxoteca and was sick for 3 out of my 4 days in Madrid. I know for a fact the root cause of my sickness because that salmon tapa (pictured below) was the only thing all day (all TRIP) that my friend did not eat that I ate. As for Platea Madrid as a whole, It's a beautiful place with a few floors of different varieties of foods to choose from. There's a sit down restaurant if you choose; and a floor just for drinks and tapas and another floor for tapas, drinks and coffee. Prices were a bit high for what it was but that's to be expected in a touristy area. Ordered two vermouths from the waiter - $16€ and 3 small tapas from Pintxoteca - 10€ Definitely seemed like a night time spot because when we went around 3 PM it was fairly empty read more

Platea is very cool think food hall meets theatre meet restaurant and that's what you have. This is a multi level venue with a stage complete with Dj's and circus performances while you dine. One floor has dozens of food vendors and bars you can order from while the second floor is a normal seated restaurant with 10 different cuisines and menus you can order from. I was surprised to see many negative reviews of Platea, a converted cinema which now houses several floors of gourmet food courts and restaurants (not unlike Mercado de San Antón). You can enter through a green grocers filled with attractively arranged fresh fruit and vegetables, the small size of which perfectly contrasts with the spacious elegance of the atrium. We found it pretty buzzing on a Sunday evening, but service was pretty quick and it wasn't too difficult to find a table for too. At €6.50 for two sodas, it isn't cheap and I imagine the food is pricey too, although it looked pretty good to me. However I would definitely visit again simply for the charming ambience. The old screen is still in use and on the occasion I visited was showing some utterly delightful animated shorts about an adorable mole that were made in the Czech Republic in the 1950s (created by illustrator Zdeněk Miler) - good for children too! read more

I loveeee this place! If your in Madrid make sure to pay them a visit! Fun place to have a few drinks and some tapas or even dinner downstairs. Service is fast and I believe they do their best to be attentive as it gets very busy. I have taken friends with children and although it gets quite loud it's completely children friendly. They have events and almost always have a DJ on the weekends. They are located between metro stops Serrano and Colon brown 4 and green 5 lines. read more

This is more of a tapas mercado that Madrid locals will frequent than a more touristic place like the famous Mercado San Miguel--though here at Platea they've converted an old theater to be a destination ambiance that is still something unique and up-scale. More food variety and generally better chefs here I think than the touristic centre -- yet still moderately afforable -- in a nice neighborhood and near the "Fifth Avenue" shopping area of Madrid. I'm not sure how service worked if you sat at the common tables but there were servers out and about. They kept the stage and a DJ was there when we where, it had a upbeat energy. I recommend coming here for the ambiance. Platea Madrid is a massive food hall that was once an art deco theatre. Fantastic idea. It is clear that no expense was spared in the conversion. The cafeteria style food hall is on the ground floor and the lower floor was a restaurant. The setting is nothing short of spectacular. The food is delicious but that is hardly a challenge to find in Madrid. The place has a vast selection (a theatre's worth) of meats, cheeses, and tapas. Platea Madrid is an old theater turned into a gastronomic center, with chic bars and restaurants. Being different is it's best feature. They have a huge screen - where originally the movies were displayed - and now they have live performances in the evening. Also there are a few shops selling gourmet products, and a big beautiful fruit shop with rate tropical fruits most of which I had never seen before. We've been here a couple of times and I think it's worth a visit, although the prices are a bit to high. read more

The Platea was simply amazing. It's a converted theater into a fancy yet casual adult food court. The set up for this place was cool every floor had something to offer for everyone. The cocktails the food and service was excellent. Great place for food and drinks on a Friday night in Madrid. A good location in Colon. The place itself is breathtaking it is beautiful it used to be a very old cinema very elegant with severs floors and a huge screen. Which is still playing videos to go to the live music playing quite often or shows. The place is surrounded by different tapas places you can find everything seafood, jamon, all the Spanish food you can imagine we had croquetas different flavored jamon, vegetables, squid, Gorgonzola, mushrooms, morcilla all delicious. Then we tried some pintxos olives filled with feta salmon and some others with jamon. We then went to tapas we tried the crab salad, the morcilla roll, the mushroom filled pastry and the chorizo roll. The place is very interesting with high chairs, good cocktails, nice music. Excellent atmosphere and a superb venue. It was an old theatre that has been successfully turned into a modern gastronomical centre. You can easily spend the day there and feel as time flies fast. The location itself is pretty privileged as it is on a nice and active area of Madrid. The food is decent. It is good but not as good as you would expect, given the venue and the high prices, which are to be expected as it is trying to give a more "fancy" image. If it weren't for the atmosphere and the music it would not be anything outstanding. But as I said, the food is good. I just feel like it has potential for more. read more

What a great "hidden" gem. I walked through the little market and was shocked to find this huge space filled with bars and food options. I wound up eating downstairs (where the ambience is far less cool but they seemed to have more food options) and had a delicious chicken tagine. Like really, amazingly flavorful! If they had a place like this in Miami, I'd come here all of the time. They were able to transform an old theater into several restaurants and bars. The also have several tiers and at the bottom tier where we sat, they formed a restaurant that had several restaurants mixed into one where you could order anything from each restaurant such as sushi, Italian, Argentinean, Spanish and Mexican. It has such an array to cater to any customer that enters through the unique glass doors. If you're in Spain, for sure come and check this place out as it's something worth remembering. read more

Platea is an old theater renovated into a super nice food court. It looks like a place right out of the Great Gatsby. They have live performances there and on the 2nd floor they have a restaurant called Arriba which is opened by a Michelin chef. Apparently that restaurant has the best view of the stage. There are lots of different foods you can choose and they are all really good. You can't really go wrong with any of the choices here. The food is a little on the pricey side, but it is definitely a nice place to sit and eat. Plateau is in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid which is the wealthiest area in Madrid. Definitely a much more posh crowd here, but a great place to eat and chill. read more

By far the coolest restaurant I have ever been to!! This is composed of four different floors and each floor is different with different foods. My favorite floor is the bottom because you can see the stage but it is not too loud and you can see the whole restaurant. This is an old theater in the Plaza Colon area, turned into a huge & very sophisticated Food Court (the best part of the big space) -- plus a regular restaurant (it did not interested me) and a big bar-lounge floor. I loved entering Platea through a small door --and finding this huge and dramatic space with amazing lighting, tables and booths. It was great and so modern and different! Waiters bring you the drinks to the tables as one wait for the electronic gadget to vibrate --and one can go and get the food ordered. There are around 30 or more kiosks for all kinds of cold and hot food (the lower level has the best hot food but is not as fun to sit there)...From caviar & stone crabs to Serrano ham, croquetas, cod fritters, canapés, all kinds of cheeses, etc, etc. Downstairs there is Mexican and Peruvian kiosks; Spanish 'potage' soups like Lentils or some other 'stew'; and a grill with roasted chicken and hamburgers. While we eat in a relaxed ambiance, there are videos playing in the huge screen --and at night there are live shows. The food in itself was fine, basic. read more

Also how it works: walk downstairs, read the menus, order at each menus respective booth, wait for your buzzer to fire and get your food.
